Large / Long recording problem

I use a my iPod and a iTalk to record some rather lengthy seminars, between five and twelve hours. The problem is when I try and listen to these recordings on my iPod later on. It will work for a bit, but if I stop listening (turning the iPod off) and go back to it, it will freeze up and cease to work until I reset it.
I thought perhaps the files (which are very big) were just too much for it to deal with so I converted them to something much smaller, MP3 I believe. I had no luck however.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated as I would love to be able to listen to these recordings.

Or perhaps has anyone else had this problem? I thought it might have something to do with the iPod trying to remember the spot it left off, but I checked the tracks and that function was not selected.

I get no warning messages, just when I place the CD into the drive and open Windows Media Player, it's reporting that it cannot record some or all of the CD. I select one of the available tracks at a time and attempt to record, but get the error message with every track.

Please clarify: Do you want to RECORD or do you want to RIP the CD ? WMP can RIP musics CD's (not fully protected) to MP3 files, but RECORD from a CD ? Sorry, I don't know.

Spanned Long-Recording HDV .m2t video files do not join properly on Import (PPro cs6, Sony z5+Mrc1k)

I have a problem seamlessly joining Sony HDV video files recorded with sony z5 camera and mrc1k recording unit containing spanned clips of long-duration recordings. this is a copy of my bug report. If you have any information, please contribute to this thread. Have other users seen similar problems?

Steps to reproduce bug:
1. Record long video clips on mrc1k recording unit cf card so that clips will be split into multiple sections due to fat32 filesystem.
2. Clone disk image of card on to computer's backup hard drive using Disk Utility.
3. Copy contents of card image on to editing drive array.
4. navigate to folder containing media using premiere pro media browser, card is recognized as "Sony HDV". Single recording is represented by multiple clips of about 21:42:28 in length.
5. Import media, wait for indexing and conforming to complete.
Results: Video clips are shown as separate video files. Upon importing these multiple files and arranging them in a timeline, there are one-frame audio dropouts between gaps in the files. This is unacceptable for long-form non-repeatable event shooting.
Expected results: The video files should be recognized in the media browser as a single spanned clip with no audio dropouts in-between file gaps. I should be able to drop these clips into my timeline with no degradations.
Here at Cornell University we have been using our z5 camera to shoot non-repeatable events with long-recording times (Usually lectures, seminars, long-winded academic speeches). We had previously been able to use final cut pro to ingest our media, but are switching to premiere pro in an attempt to simplify our workflow. Alas, I still have to use final cut pro or clipwrap to fix the problem with our media. If you have any guidance, please contact me at [email protected]. Thank you!

As far as I know, the only way to consolidate long MRC1 clips without dropped frames at the join points and without going through FCP is to use the Sony RU_UTIL Windows program. Maybe there is a 3rd-party OSX app - I have never encountered one.
My file workflow right now is an absolute mess as I transition to tapeless and am adding DSLR's to the mix. A single point of ingestion for all assets - video, stills, and audio - as well a single catalog for easily locating any of these does not seem to exist. I've tried Bridge, Prelude, and PPro Media browser with little success. It may be strange, but Lightroom is currently my best solution for importing and cataloging videos (and stills). It allows me to keyword and rate and organize and locate videos and stills across my system. It doesn't interface to PPro, but at least I can easily find whatever I'm looking for. I know I'm going way off-topic here and I'm sure your needs are different than mine, but the ideal workflow for me would be for Lightroom to be able to export assets to a PPro Project and also for Lightroom to manage audio files. Maybe someday.

My video no longer records sound

When I first got it, it did record sound
but when I first hooked it up to my iTunes and got my contacts, etc, on it.. it no longer records sound when I take video...

just like 99% of all problems with this phone i would try a reset. it seems to be apples answer to everything anyway. heck i could work for apple...my answer to everything would be JUST DO A RESET. now gimme me my money

Updated and can no longer record video

I updated to iOS4 on my 3Gs and I can no longer record video, the option to switch to video is no longer there. Is anyone else having this problem?

Thanks for the suggestion; unfortunately, such attempts are unsuccessful. In fact, I've been experiencing this bug for quite a while (as a developer), despite several restores. From my research, there are serious issues with iOS 4.0 and the iPhone Camera app. I've submitted a bug report for this. We'll see what comes of that.

Recording problem on my Xi-Fi Fatality?

'Recording problem on my Xi-Fi Fatality?d So I have a Xi-Fi Fatality, and I would like to be able to record directly from my computer so that it's own output is also the input. For example, if I'm on ventrillo or something and I want to play a funny mp3 to show my friends I'd like to be able for the audio to come directly from the output.
Anyways, my microphone seems to work fine, and that's where the trouble begins.
I go to the sound control panel and click on the recording tab. ? It has microphone as the default device and it says "working."
There are also options for "Auxillary" "Line-In" "Digital-In" and "What U Hear"
However, under each of them it says "currently unavailable"
I am unable to get any of them to function even when I set them to the default device.
Is this normal?

Actually this is kind of weird. Every now and then my "Aux 2" will become available and my mic is not. I have to restart my computer 4 or 5 times for my mic to become available.

You can import the track into GarageBand and then split the tracks there. Once that it is done you can highlight the ruler section and then share the song to iTunes to get them separated out.

ORA-06502 error with external table having long records

I'm getting a strange error with the oci driver that I don't get with the thin driver.
The basic situation is that we using external tables and both the oci and thin drivers have been working until we tested with a table that had longer records than the previous tables. The new table has 1800 byte records.
The thin driver still works fine with the new table. However, the oci driver generates the following error with the new table:
ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error: character string buffer too small
I suspect that with oci driver the oci DLLs are reading the external file and the DLLs can't handle the longer record length.
Particulars
- Oracle DB Server is 10.2.0.1 on SunOS 5.9
- OCI Instant Client instantclient_10_2 on Windows XP
- OCI client code from DB server installation running on DB server
- Works with thin driver from Windows XP and on DB server machine for all record lengths
- Works with both OCI drivers for records < 1800 bytes (don't know actual limit)
- Fails with both OCI drivers for records = 1800 bytes.
Does anyone out there have any thoughts.

Your access parameters are in the wrong order. External tables are a bit fussy like that. Refer to the access_parameters section in the Utilities manual and follow the order there. From memory it will go something like this:
RECORDS DELIMITED...
LOG/BAD/DISCARDFILE...
FIELDS TERMINATED...LDRTRIM
MISSING FIELD VALUES...
fields...

Firefox does not show a large html-record correctly

Beginning of the list is OK, but when the list is large (long) enough the rest of the list is carbage

It's a large achestor file. Beginning of the file is shown correctly but after that all the rest of the file is shown like a one line without new pages or lines.

Record Store only reads one record problem

I have a problem where I can read and write a record to a records store, but i can not do this for multiple records as i am trying with below code. Any help is very welcomes thank you, I am very new to J2ME.
I have a J2ME midlet that calls the startRecordStore() method which create a record 1.
It uses a static int records and it increments it every time a new recordstore is created, well I am not entirely sure if i need to do this. Because I want to go through all the records created.

I don't know where you're calling startRecordStore(), but you're creating a new record store for each "records".
Shouldn't you be just opening the record store "StudentStore", and them adding records to that store?

Audio recording problem in Cap 5

I have used earlier Captivate editions a great deal and never had audio recording problems. I am getting a weak scratchy audio recording. I have tried in Vista, Win 7 and with multiple microphones. What can be the problem?

Unfortunately, you have posted to the Premiere forum. This was the precursor to PrPro. The MOD's will probably move this out to the PrPro forum, so more folk will see it and can respond.
Now, did you use a USB mic? Many have had issues with those.
Also, going back about a year, there was a similar thread, and the description was about the same - "chipmunk." I do not recall the flow of that thread, or the resolution, but will try to find it. I just hope that it was not before the forum changeover, as it is likely gone forever.

Audio Recording Problem - distorted

Hey all,
I got an audio recording problem here...
When I try to record audio onto my project, the sounds is very poor and distorted. Plus, there is a pretty ugly delay. But when I use garageband, the sound is great and how it should be. So this makes me think that Logic has some sort of problem with my driver (Firebox) or somethin'.
Here's my Setup
-imac G5
-Logic Pro 7.2 (Bought just a few days ago)
-Presonus Firebox (audio interface)
-Condensor Mic

Hi,
It is possible that your FireBox is not the audio card set up in Logic, and that you are accidentally recording the built-in mic.
If Garageband is seeing your FireBox corrctly, then it is the setup in Logic, and nothing else, that you should be looking at.
Check your audio hardware and drivers.

Sony Recorder PROBLEM

Using a Sony Personal recorder model ICD-PX720. Has been out of use for several months. When fresh batteries were inserted, and Display/Menu button was held down, nothing happened. Left device sitting around for 20 minutes and when I came back, the screen was flashing the word "ACCESS". Nothing will make this change, go away or turn off except removing the batteries. Do not have the manual.

if you recorded a particularly long recording of over an hour or more, 20 minutes is not uncommon.

Need help please I'm new to this forum... I have been having a few problems with my recordings like others I try to play back programme I have recorded and get nothing and also trying to delete a programme I'm getting a message to say I can't delete as the programme may be running on another box!!! I only have 1 box!!! I have tried all the rebooting fixes but no joy... I have an old white style hh... Is this or the box tired and in need of replacing??? I've also checked the settings and I'm online and have space on my disk!!! Help

We have had the same problem, which is really frustrating!!
The box appears to be recording but when the programme is played back, it stops during the programme and goes to the resume play on the menu or sometimes the channel isn't there, its just a black screen, I'm thinking of going to Sky if it carries on, getting really fed up now!!!

Best database for large# of records

I have data logging software that logs to an MS Access database (*.mdb) with 4 internal tables. As the database gets large (> 100,000) records, the write times become very long, and I have instances of software shutdown. Even it it does not shutdown, the write times become several minutes, which is longer than the data logging interval (every 2 minutes).
I am currently manually archiving and emptying the records on a monthly basis, but it makes it difficult for the user to find data that they need.
Is this an inherent problem with MS Access? This is the older version of SQL toolkit running under CVI 5.1. This may be remedied by an upgrade for CVI/SQL or both. I do not want to spend the $$ if this is a database structure problem.
I can move over to another format, such as MySQL, etc. Previously, I used a dBase structure/ODBC and did not have these issues.
Any suggestion, help, etc is welcome. Thanks in advance,

I moved to MS Access because I did not have any way to view the data in the old system remotely (dBase format). dBase is long gone. Access will open the dBase database, but it converts it.
I created some nice custom reports in Access to display the data for my customers.
I actually have found a solution to the large file problems. Rather than log all the data into a single table (within the database), I create a new table each month. This allows the table size to stay reasonable, and still allows a search routine to find the data (e.g., May13, June13, etc).
If I keep the number of records in a table < 1M, then the write times are reasonable.
