Large page format PDF Cropping

Hi I have recently upgraded to  CS5. I am using a Mac Quad Core Intel Xeon with Snow lepoard OS.
My problem  is that im trying to PDF a large page size from Indesign, i go through  the usual chanel of print setup, i click on Manage Custom Sizes
Enter the  new size, return to the setup window ensure every thing is to 100 %  scale crop mark etc and save as post script. i then take the document  into distiller. The output is an A3 cropped version of the bottom left  corner.
I  have read Snow lepoard is not dependant on the PDF Wrtiter print drive  any more? so should i use my Laser printer driver with the bespoke page  size? there seems to be little or contradictory information on this  subject.
If  any one could offer some insight i would be most grateful. Thanks

This is really an InDesign issue and not PDF, but I'll answer.
Use File->Export to create the PDF.
Creation of PDF from Creative Suite applications should ALWAYS be done using Export/Save As and NEVER using printing.

  • Plotting Large Format PDF: What Am I Missing?

Hey folks, someone please help me with this.  I cannot for the life of me get an architectural D-sized pdf  (24" vertical x 36" horizontal sheet) to print in the proper orientation on my 36" wide roll-fed plotter.  No matter the settings I end up with either a portrait sheet (36" edge vertical) on 36" square paper or half of a landscape sheet (36" edge horizontal) on 36" square paper.
    Adobe Acrobat 9.2.0 Standard
    HP DesignJet 1050C
    Windows 7 Pro 64-bit
These are the various settings I've tried:
1 - what seems like the logical settings to me
    sheet: landscape (36" edge horizontal)
    paper orientation: landscape
    auto-rotate and center: checked
preview: landscape sheet on landscape paper
result: portrait sheet on 36" square paper

    2 - unchecked auto-rotate and center
    sheet: landscape (36" edge horizontal)
    paper orientation: landscape
    auto-rotate and center: unchecked
preview: landscape sheet on landscape paper
    result: same as 1
    3 - changed paper orientation
    sheet: landscape (36" edge horizontal)
    paper orientation: portrait
    auto-rotate and center: checked
preview: landscape sheet on landscape paper
    result: same as 1
4 - changed paper orientation, unchecked auto-rotate and center
    sheet: landscape (36" edge horizontal)
    paper orientation: portrait
    auto-rotate and center: unchecked
preview: landscape sheet on portrait paper
result: landscape sheet on 36" square paper

After sorting out my page orientation issue another large format issue cropped up: when trying to print 24" x 36" pdf drawings to the HP 1050c I'd get the following errors:
The document could not be printed
There were no pages selected to print
I'm not sure why I started getting these errors as I was able to print just fine for some time.  The good news is I've figured out how to correct it:
The 1050c is an HPGL printer, but Adobe uses PostScript drivers.  The solution that worked for me:
Start > Devices and Printers > remove the 1050c
Start > All Programs > Administrative Tools > Print Management > Print Servers > (local) > Drivers
right-click the 1050c drivers > Remove Driver Package...
you may have to reboot your machine before you're able to remove the drivers
Start > Devices and Printers > Add a printer
in my case it's a network printer so I entered the IP address and named the port HP 1050c PostScript
when it asks you to select the printer from the list click the Windows Update button and wait for a bit
select HP > HP DesignJet 1050c PS3 (these are the PostScript drivers)
finish the install, naming the printer HP DesignJet 1050c PostScript
Now add the printer a second time
    port name: HP 1050c HPGL
    Windows Update button
HP > HP DesignJet 1050c by HP (these are the HPGL drivers)
    finish the install
Now you should be able to Start > Devices and Printers > remove the HP DesignJet 1050c PostScript printer, the postscript drivers will remain installed
After doing this I was able to print from AutoCAD 2010 and from Adobe Acrobat 9.3.1 without any problems.

  • How to download a page in pdf or doc format

    Hi,
I want to download a content of page in pdf or doc format through a button.
    How can I acheive it.
I created a salary page and now want to download this page directly in pdf or doc format, how to do it.
    Using Peopltools 8.49
    PS HRMS 9.0
    plz help.
    Many thanks...

The entire solution would be too large and complex to post. Here are some pointers to get you going. One alternative is to use BI/XML Publisher to create the output document and launch it from a button on the page (PeopleCode and Derived/Work record). Another alternative is to use Apache POI to generate a doc and iText to generate PDF. Customers have used all of these approaches.

  • Save as PDF Page Formatting

    Hi All,
I built a tool in Excel 2007 which allows the user to publish a formatted output to PDF.  To get around the fact that the excel pulls the printer metrics from the active printer, I had the tool load up the MODI printer and use its metrics so I always
had a consistent borderless printer driver source across all users and all was well.
I have a problem on the horizon though, my work is moving their OS across to 64bit Windows 7 and the MODI does not run on 64bit.
Is there a way to manually define the printer metrics and force excel 2007 to use those as a pass through when creating a PDF, alternatively can I just tell it to ignore the active printer like you can in word?
Failing that Is there a better fixed page formatting method in either Excel 2010 or 2013?

    Hi,
Do you mean that you built a tool to load up the MODI printer and use its metrics, but the the MODI does not run on 64bit, so you want to manually define the printer metrics?
Since You said you want to manually define the printer metrics and I think the issue is more related to the feature of Excel, I'd like to move it to Excel IT pro forum.

  • Help with page formatting in PDF

Hope that someone can help me with a problem I have.
I have just purchased Acrobat 9 Pro Extended Version 9.0.0, and am a very new user of Acrobat.
The problem I have is converting a Word 2002 and SP3 documents (multi pages to PDF.
The Word document is formatted with the correct margins in that all the text and Header are on the correct pages, but when converted to PDF a small part of the upper text on the next page moves up onto the previous page. Resetting the top ande bottom margins helps, but this should not be necessary.
Anyone have any ideas to correct this problem.
    clifton06

You version of WORD defaults to using printer metrics. There are 2 ways to resolve the issue. 1. go to print and select the Adobe PDF printer, back out and fist the document issues in WORD. 2. Deep in the options of WORD, there is a selection for using printer metrics (I assume your version also has this selection). Uncheck that and the problem should go away. You could also change your default printer to the Adobe PDF printer.
WORD 2007 was changed to have the default set to NOT use printer metrics. All previous versions used the metrics. Thus when you change the printer, WORD reflows the document. The result may be errors in bookmarks, page numbers, and related issues.

  • How do you change the page format to print a larger area?

Hi there, another new to mac and new to numbers guy.
I'm trying to find the windows equivalent to change page format.
I want to reduce the blank border surrounding my table and print a larger area. How do you reduce the blank border that prevents you from printing up to the paper edge?
    cheers

Page margns in Numbers are set in the Layout Inspector.
Open the Inspector and click the Layout button.
Edit the four margin settings as you wish. Reduce the (page) header and footer settings to zero if you don't want to include running headers or footers on your pages.
Note that margins will be limited by the capabilities/settings of your printer. Printing to the edges of the paper usually requires a choice to be made in the Print dialogue as well as for the document itself.

  • Convert Web Page to PDF formatting problem - 1st line of each paragraph outdented

    Hi Folks,
I get a formatting problem when I convert any web page to PDF using the 'Convert Web Page to PDF' option - the 1st line of each paragraph is outdented.
eg if i convert http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/using/whats-new-acrobat-xi.html I get this:
I get the same problem using IE 9, Chrome (latest) or Firefox 30.0. I don't get it converting a Word doc to PDF.
I'm using Adobe Acrobat XI Pro on a PC running Windows 7.
Is there a simple setting somewhere I am missing?
    Any help much appreciated!

Are you using "Adobe PDF" or "PDF or XPS?" I sounds like "Adobe PDF," but trying to be sure. Have you updated your Acrobat to the latest version? If not, try that.

I want A4 size page in pdf format

  • Web page Print Save as PDF--only first page formatted correctly

    Hello,
Whenever I try to save a web page as a PDF file, the first page formats nicely, but the subsequent pages print with bigger font and the text runs off the right-side edge of the page.  If I print just page 2, then page 2 prints nicely.  I can later use Acrobat Pro to stitch the PDF together page by page, but that is a pain.  I have played around with various page set up settings to no avail.  I'm using Firefox 18.0.1 and Mac OS 10.8.2.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,

The PDF add-on that seems to work is PDF Download 3.0.0.1 from Apple's website. It seems to process webpages via a website to PDF. A sample webpage is: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clandestine_HUMINT. However, I've run into the same problem on others that seem to create long (many page) PDF files. I also tried it with CUPS-PDF 2.4.6 with the same problem. I believe the CUPS-PDF application uses the same CUPS standard built into OSX?
Anyway, please bear with me. I am not kidding about being fairly new to this whole Mac thing. How do I find the crash log?

the document is not formatting the pages correctly - any suggestions how to control the page formatting?

Its been almost 3 years, has there been any update on this issue? We are experiencing the same issue. Our numerous customers are thinking about just using a different pdf reader that supports this standard. All workarounds we have encountered are hacks around the URL and are unacceptable for our customers.
Please respond, we would hate for Adobe to lose all of the users that our customers have.

    Hi,
For your requirement, we can add this link to the master page, then it will appear in the pages which apply this master page.
To convert the current page to PDF, you can take consideration of using jsPDF.

  • Page Format different than doc

I have converted a pdf file to a word doc so I can insert into my document but the margins are different and the form is being cut off when I insert.  I cannot change the margins on my document do to the large content. How can I get it to fit?

    Hello Peter,
All our projects reside on a shared network drive. We both
have access to them. When I say "my PC" or "my partner's PC", I
mean that the project is open on my or my partner's PC. But it is
the same project, not a copy of the project.
We tried your suggestion, and both projects generated letter
size documents on my side, and A4 documents on her side.
Since my original post, we have reinstalled RH as suggested
on a different message board. This did not solve this problem. We
have checked and installed update files from the Adobe site - no
change. We've even had our techies poke around, but they couldn't
    come up with anything.
Our only working solution so far is to generate the Word
document and change the page format manually. Which doesn't sound
too bad, except that 2 of our projects each require 17 different
pdf files - so it makes for a lot of manual attention as opposed to
    a simple "Batch Generate".
As I wrote in my first post, I'm not sure if this is a RH
issue, so I really appreciate any help you can provide.
    Thanks
    Ben
