Large photo previews

Hi,
We just installed PS CS5 on a new Mac Mini running OSX 10.6. Every time we crop a photo and send it to the newsroom it shows up very big in Quark. We do not have this problem with PS CS4. This only has to do with a JPG, EPS's work fine.
Is there a setting for JPG perviews in PS CS5?
Thanks for your help,
Dave

Hi Marian,
The resolution is different depending where we get the photo from but after we crop and tone the photo we save it at 180 ppi.
So if the photo saves at its native res. is there a workaround or a setting to change? What if the file name is changed?
Thanks
Dave

  • Spry Slide Show-how to use one size photo for large photo and thumbnail?

    Hi all,
I'm am using Adobe's Spry Slide Show. I can only use one size photo 640x480px for both the large photo and the thumbnail.
I changed the size of the small thumnail on the html:
                     <li><a href="Photos/TestPhoto640x480.jpg" width="490" height="367"><img src="Photos/TestPhoto640x480.jpg" width="63" height="47" alt="photos-1.jpg" /></a></li>
The thumbnail looks fine until you hit Live View or Preview in Browser then photo comes in full size and you can only see the upper left hand corner.
I assume that the java is doing this. But I have no training in Java.
How can I change the Java Code so the thumbnail comes in at 63x47px?
    Many thanks.

Wish I could use scaled down versions of the thumbnails-but I can't.
    Why not?
        img.src = info.src;
        img.style.width =  "490px";<!--Large Photo size on internet-changed from info.width + "px"; to "490px";  *********-->
        img.style.height =  "368px";<!--Large Photo size on internet-changed from info.height + "px"; to "368px";  *******-->
You're shooting yourself in the foot with this.  It's overriding your HTML and CSS  values.
As an FYI, Adobe Abandoned the Spry framework late last year.

  • Large thumbnail previews in Finder?

Is there any way I can select LARGE thumbnail previews for images on my hard drives in the 'Finder' window? I.e. like in Windows Explorer; where you can actually see the image? I have 1000's of photos, & if I'm searching for a specific image I really need to be able to see the thumbnail clearly or it will take me hours to find the photo I'm looking for. At the moment they are tiny-weeny & I can't see anything at all of the image.Thanks.

I thought this had solved this problem, but unfortunately, this does not work when I'm trying to attach images to an e-mail. I open 'attachments' in Hotmail, & it brings up the Finder window, but of course the menu bar at the top is not the Finder menu - it's the Google Chrome/Firefox menu bar (or whatever browser I'm using). So there is no option to 'show status bar'. This is actually incredibly annoying, as when the thumbnails are tiny & I'm trying to selct from a large number of photos, it's very hard to see which ones I wanted to send. I end up having to write down all the image numbers first. This cannot surely be how a Mac is supposed to work in the 21st century?..!
I would be very grateful for any other ideas...

  • Can I change an Extra Large photo book to a smaller size once done?

Can I change an Extra Large photo book to a smaller size once done?

Sure - butyour text boxes may need work since being a different size may affect the view - to change duplicate the book just in case (select it and press command - D) and then go to themes and select the same theme in teh new size - closly verify the modified book and preview it -
Before ordering your book preview it using this method - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1040 - and save the resulting PDF for reference - the delivered book will match it.

  • How Can I Make A Large Photo with Product Detail for My Thumbnails in Dreamweaver

    Hello All:
New to Dreamweaver, so my code knowledge does not exist yet. Have Mercy!!!!
Anyway , I am making a typical product page.
I prefer that when people click the thumbnail product photo to not have to click into another brower.
Nowadays you are able to click in what is commonly called a "Quick View" that pops up and gives you a full sized
image along with product detail, and pricing.  That's all I want.
How can I link this [the larger photo and product detai] to my thumbnails in Dreamweaver????
I want the look that is on every website like Target, Macy, etc.
Someone, please help me to  !!!!!!!
These lil' faces are really cute.  They are helping me to smile after hours and days, weeks of frustration.   TWIN MADDOG!!!

    Hi,
don't understand your problem, ore hope to understand it right. You could put the images on a DW file and link to another file with the larger image and where you have written all your informations.
I made this here only for a new, larger image (without additional informations):
    <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">

  • My iphone storage is full due to my large photo library. As I want to go on taking more photos, if I back up my phone to icloud, can I then delete all my photos from my iphone to make room for new photos?

My iphone storage is full due to my large photo library. As I want to go on taking more photos, if I back up my phone to icloud, can I then delete all my photos from my iphone to make room for new photos? Or will the next time I back up lose all those previously backed up as it is a 'new' set of data?
I just want to find the easiest and safest way of not losing all my photos while being able to take more than my iPhones storage worth as it is already full - can someone help me please? I thought icloud was the solution to not uploading my photos to the mac but I'm not sure if the way it's going is working and don't want to delete photos or lose my phone and then find out what I'm doing isn't actually storing my photos permanently. Thanks

    Hey EmilyEliza,
As you are clearly aware, it is important for you to have backups of your important data, including all of these photos you are currently keeping on your iPhone. While it is possible to use iTunes or iCloud to do backups of your iPhone, the problem becomes how to access those backups if you have deleted the photos from your iPhone. Once you have done the backup and then removed the photos from the iPhone, the only way to access the photos is by restoring the backups to the phone. See this article for information about backups made from the iPhone -
Back up and restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch using iCloud or iTunes - Apple Support
If you want to easily access the photos once they are off of the iPhone, another approach to this would be to import your photos from the iPhone into an application on your Mac, such as iPhoto. To learn how to do this, use the steps in this article -
Import photos and videos from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to your Mac or Windows PC - Apple Support
Once those photos are on your computer, it is still important to back up those photos to somewhere else, so you can be sure of their safety before removing them from the iPhone. Your Mac’s Time Machine application is one method of doing this -
Mac Basics: Time Machine backs up your Mac - Apple Support
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

  • Problem publishing large photo albums

I'm using iWeb (iLife'08) to create several a photo gallery: there is a page with the gallery showing all the albums, and each album has 100 to 200 pictures. The albums were created in iPhoto and "inserted" into iWeb using iWeb's media tools.
Publishing to .Mac has been very frustrating: 1st time I created the entire site, with 10 albums (2000+ pictures all together) and a couple of regular text pages. When I tried to publish iWeb took forever, went into working in the background and eventually came back with an error about not being able to connect to .Mac and to check my internet connection. Needless to say I checked it and it was all good: able to login, plenty of iDisk space available, etc.
2nd time I decided to start with just one album in the gallery. This time it worked. I started adding (to iWeb) one album at a time and then publishing "changes". It takes some time but it works. However, if I change anything in one album (already published) and add a new album iWeb will again take forever just to come back with an error about the connection to .Mac.
is there a practical limit to the size of albums in iWeb? Should I use iPhoto directly to create a photo gallery in .Mac and use iWeb to link to it? What is the best way to use these tools to create a large photo gallery?

Keep it down to about 24 photos per album and 6 albums per page. You can always add more album pages and have an index page to get to them.

  • Help please:  Large photos do not appear in album...

I am having difficulty viewing the large photos in iphoto. All of the photos appear in the "thumbnail size", but when i want to view them "screen size", only the small size photos appear - when i try to view a larger photo, nothing but white screen...is there a "blanket approach" i can apply that wil let me view all my photos? i have about 4000 photos scanned, large and small.
    Thank you in advance.

Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • How to create a photo preview album DVD in DVDStudio Pro ?

    Hi,
How can i create a DVD still image ( Photo ) preview with DVDStudio Pro ? The preview should allow the viewer to go back and forth between images in addition to pause and go back to index gallery with the remote control. The final result should be something like a Flash or HTML web image gallery created by LightRoom ( sorry for the F word in APPLE space ). It will be used by elderly users that are not computer saavy but need to proof / preview still photography sessions.
If DVDStudio Pro is not the tool for this, could you recommand a Mac application for this.

iPhoto doesn't run on the iPad. Other than that you'd need to ask your question on the iPad forum.

  • Large Photo dilemma

Hello, I just bought an Imac, and jumped right in with creating a website. Everything is a dream come true except the photos i want to share are massive! 5 - 10 mb each. the problem is that when ever my friends try to download the pictures all they get is this 170 kb thumbnail of my pictures!
Please does anyone know how I can share my large photos on my website? If you are Curious it is
    web.me.com/angelpalmoni
    Thank you so much!!!

To create a ZIP of your folder of photos, select it and go to the Finder/File Menu. In Tiger select "Create Archive" or Leopard select "Compress".
At the bottom of the iWeb window click the "Inspector" button if it is not already open.
The "Link" inspector page is the second last icon at the top of the inspector window - a blue curved arrow. Click it.
Since you have a photo site, you could put a small image or icon on your webpage. Beneath this put a caption like "Click the Icon to download my Photos".
Now select the image and, in the "Link" inspector, check the "Enable as a hyperlink" box.
    "Link to: A File"
Browse to your ZIP file and select it.
This link will not work in iWeb but, when clicked on your published site, will download your folder of photos.

  • Deleted picture keeps showing up in photo preview of camera

Okay so I took a picture on my phone with the camera from the lock screen. When I tried to view it it gave me a message that said that there were no photos or videos. So even when I unlocked my phone and checked my albums the picture isn't in any of the albums, but it still shows up in the photo preview in the bottom left hand corner. I've deleted all the pictures that I've taken today and it still shows up in the preview How do I get rid of that picture so it doesn't keep showing up?

    Hi charlbi,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I understand that you took a photo from the lock screen that shows in the lower left preview window, but that picture doesn’t show up in any albums in Photos. In this situation, I would suggest resetting your iPhone and checking again. Please let me know if you still see the preview of that picture after the reset.

  • How can I create only thumbnails photo page without larger photo

Is there a way to create photo page without the larger photo?

I wonder if you can use a photo template page to drop your photos into and then just leave off the slideshow button. I wonder if that will disable the click to enlarge photo function or if it just affects the slideshow stuff.
Otherwise, you could manually make your thumbnails page...like a contact sheet.
    1. Use something like iPhoto to export photos scaled down to thumbnail size, like 100x133, into a folder on the desktop
    2. Drag and drop thumbnails from this folder into iWeb using blank template page.
    3. select all the thumbnails, open up the Inspector ruler tab, click on "Use orignal size".
    4. Arrange thumbnails in desired order and position on page.
This is a complete manual job. I don't know if there is any other way besides disabling the slideshow function. I would probably live with the "click to enlarge" function over making a contact sheet by hand.

  • An Aperture 3 "Photo Preview" explanation appreciated.

As I have plenty of free disk storage I would like to set “Photo Preview” to yield the best possible quality and size. (The resolution of my monitor is 1260 X 1440)
I would appreciate an explanation of the choices of the Fit Within figures such as “Don’t limit”, “Fit within 2560 X 2560”, Fit within 1920 X 1920” etc.
My aim is to show my photos onscreen to their best advantage as well as sometimes using them for emailing to friends or creating slide shows for emailing to friends.
Are my current settings right for my purposes?

    Cliff

Hi Cliff.  Sounds like you got this figured out already  .
The Preview file that Aperture creates and keeps is a JPG rendering of the Image.  In general it is a big thumbnail.   The Preview is used:
    - as a placeholder while the Original+Version is rendered (this is done "live" -- Aperture does not keep these files from session to session).
    - when in in Quick Preview mode (the Preview is used in place of the fully-rendered Image in order to speed processing when culling or working with metadata).
    - when you drag an Image from Aperture to another program.
    - when the Originals are off-line (e.g.: if you have put your Image's Originals on an external drive and that drive is not mounted).
    - in Slideshows (but if you create a Slideshow and the Previews don't exist, Aperture will create them).
    - and probably a few I forgot.
The Preview can also be used as a some insurance against total loss:  if you lose your Image's Originals but still have the full Library, the Library will have the Previews.
You should set your Preview size (and existence) based on your needs.  I keep Previews of every Image, at the resolution of my monitor, at compression level 10.  If you truly want "best quality" and maximum size, you should set yours to "Don't limit" and "12".  The difference between 12 and 10 is going to be a lot of bytes, and probably no perceptible change in quality.  The size you select is straight-forward, with a direct relationship between size and storage requirements.
Note that you can delete and re-render Previews at any time.  I have found it much easier to "set it and forget it" -- but I am willing to provide the storage space needed and prefer the performance of a Library with a full set of Previews.
I suspect you've see it, but the User Manual page on Previews is here.

  • How can you tell photo quality is good for large photo books

I want to make a large photo book (13 X 10) and I have a good quality camera, but how do I tell the photos are good enough to blow up to that size.

I want to make a large photo book (13 X 10) and I have a good quality camera, but how do I tell the photos are good enough to blow up to that size
With a bit of arithmetic. Check the pixel size of your photos.
To print a good quality book you will need at least 200 pixels per inch to get the necessary dpi in the printout.
    So your photos should have a pixel size of  at least 13 x 200 by 10 x 200 = 2600 x 2000 pixels.
Check the Info panel for the pixel sizes of your selected photos.

  • Photo preview icon

ok, here's my problem, some of the photo previews in finder window doesnt display properly, it just shows a black icon, where as others display normally. is there's n e settings i can change? or do i have to delete some sorta preference list files?
    thanks

I would try rebooting your computer, and then make sure the system files for displaying thumnail images have not been mvoed or accidently deleted. (it is very easy to delete something or move something in the system folders by accident)
