LARGE SOFTBOOK Q's: A) Die Cut window cover? B) Spreads?

Couple of Q's for you brilliant boards people, anyone kno the answers to...
A) "LARGE SOFTCOVER BOOK (NO COVER DIECUT?)
(size 8.5 x 11, price $19.99) seems is only offered with a die-cut square window. Is there any option to ditch this in favor of a printed cover like is offered in the Med & small sizes.
B) SPREADS IN SOFTCOVER BOOK?
Is it possible to print both sides in the large softcover book to enable Double Page Spreads?
Thanks in advance guys!!!

#1 -Correct. There may another online service that will offer a large, soft cover book with a solid, printed cover. But with Apple, you only get what you see offered. There's no customizing except what you see offered.
#2 - Yes. If you look at the options when you select a medium book the double sided printing option is checked and grayed out so it can't be changed.
Here are some other online book providers that might have what you want. I know that SharedInk will accept and print iPhoto pdf files. Maybe their soft cover large book will have a solid cover.

  • Is there a way to package a file for print? Also help on die cut settings?

    Hello!
    I've gotten myself in a bit over my head, I work at a very small company. I am the only one with design experience, and being somewhat fresh out of college, until this job I've had no print experience. So everytime I send something to them, I learn something new. Typically the files I send originate in InDesign though.
    I have designed a rectangle sign with a triangle at the top, and so I am preparing the file to be sent to the printer for a die cut. I reached out to them and asked how to prepare it, and the response was very short "Draw your shape, make an overprint rule where you want it to cut. Extend bleed beyond the cut lines." But I wasn't quite sure i understood so I searched, and I created a die cut layer that is the shape of the cutout completely filled in a bright color not found anywhere on the document itself. Is that correct?
    Secondly, there is text, so I wanted to package the file just as I would in InDesign. Typically I send a pdf, but not sure a pdf would work with this since the red covers the area needing to be printed. So thus why I wanted to package the file to go in case I haven't prepared it correctly for them.
    Should It have just been a stroke and not filled in?
    Sorry so long-but I try to explain thoroughly from the get-go. Thanks for any help!

    SReigel:
    A little after the fact, but here are a couple more tidbits for you!
    Illustrator doesn't have a Package function like InDe. (Unfortunately!)
    If you don't have any placed images in your file, you can convert all the text to outlines and send a native Illustrator file, or a vector EPS, or whatever vector file-type your vendor prefers.
    There's an app out there called Art Files that will collect fonts and images a la InDe's Package. It's inexpensive, and I believe it has a fully functional trial if you only need it for one or two files.
    Hope it all turned out well.

  • How Do I Prep Larger Than 4K "Stills" for Final Cut Pro?

    Gentleman,
    Im having a problem exporting my sequence because there is a JPEG which has RGB Color Space that is larger than 4K and apparently Final Cut Pro only will export images that are 4K or Smaller. How do I reduce the size of this Images Color Space to be under 4K so I can Work with it in Final Cut Pro 7 ?

    You should be able to resize it in just about any photo/image editing software such as Photoshop, Preview, iPhoto and many others.

  • What is a keyline? I need to create one for a die cut job.

    My press printer who is die cutting a job for us asked me to create a keyline for the die cut shape. I do not know what this is or how to do it. Is it just an outline of the shape that needs to be cut or is there more to it? How is this done?
    Thanks!
    Ashley

    Yes just an outline of the shape you want cut, but create it with a specific colour (spot) so it appears on a different plate when separated.
    and set it to overprint so it doesn't knock out your print colors.

  • Large image in lightbox opens in new window

    I added a lightbox gallery to my site and it was working fine.  Then, I tried to add more thumbnails and that's when problems started.  Some of the larger images wouldnt load at all so I then started over with a new page/gallery, deleted files off the server and tried uploading again.  The quirky thing is that the gallery works fine on my computer but when I upload it onto the server and view it from the web it doesn't work correctly.  The larger images open up in a new window  Im guessing that I'm missing something on the server but I don't know what.  I reuploaded everything on the local server and still nothing.  Can anyone help?

    I finally got it to work by deleting files off the remote and uploading again.  Thought I did that last night but I guess this morning I did something right that I had missed.

  • Puzzle die cut

    For an invitation i'm making a 4 piece puzzle, see image below.
    All pieces are printed doublesided, which makes 8 different designs. All pieces have exactly the same shape. One can attach the pieces to eachother, in whatever order and whatever side he likes, for example: 1a-3b-4b-2b.
    A minor point with this current die cut shape, is that the backside needs to be printed upside down. If i don't do this, than a b-side can't attach to an a-side.
    It's not a major problem, but i'm wondering if there isn't some other system which preserves the freedom of puzzling the pieces to one's own taste, without having an upside-down back?
    All help is greatly appreciated!

    blanko,
    i'm wondering if there isn't some other system which preserves the freedom of puzzling the pieces to one's own taste, without having an upside-down back?
    Not really.
    With the horizontal symmetry axis cut you have (division into an odd number of vertical segments), you will have to flip the pieces vertically to have them fit.
    With an alternative rotation symmetrical cut, you would only be able to rotate the pieces, and you would be unable to use fronts and backs together because they would have opposite symmetries.

  • Can Windows Server Backup spread a single backup job across multiple disks if they are not set up as a virtual disk?

    This may be a dumb question, but I can't seem to find any definitive information after having done many, many searches.  Short question is - can Windows Server Backup spread a single backup job across multiple disks if they are not in a storage
    pool or some other RAID/JBOD structure?
    Background:
    I'm running Server 2012 Essentials with all Windows Updates installed.  I have been backing up approx 2.8TB of data (Bare Metal Recovery, C:, S: (shared folders), and system reserved) for the past year+ onto a storage pool made up of two-2TB external
    USB drives.  Backup is slow (takes approx 1.5 days to complete), but generally works.  Not surprisingly I was constantly getting capacity low messages so I decided to increase my backup storage pool by adding a 3TB drive and another spare 750GB drive
    for a total of 7.75TB.  Instead of having four separate external USB enclosures, I bot a 4-bay enclosure - Startech.com model #S3540BU33E to simplify this (or so I thought!).
    The first problem I had was adding the two new drives to the existing storage pool. I think that is because the Startech uses a JMicron USB controller that reports identical uniqueid's for all drives so only one shows up in the GUI interface for creating storage
    pools. After doing research on this, I set up a new storage pool and virtual disk using all four drives via Powershell and thought I was good. However, when the backup ran, it failed after filling the first drive, saying there was no remaining capacity. In
    reality there were three remaining empty drives and there storage pool reported almost 5TB of avail capacity. I assumed this was due to the identical uniqueid issue so I decided to try a different tactic.
    Instead of using a storage pool that combines all four disks into one virtual disk, I just added each of them to Windows Server Backup as individual drives thinking it would manage them collectively. I.e., when a drive filled up during a particular backup,
    it would just start using the next drive and so on. Apparently this was a foolish assumption because the backup failed again as soon as the first disk filled up.
    So now I don't know if this is still an issue with the identical uniqueid's or if Server Backup actually can't spread a single backup across multiple individual drives that aren't in a pool or other virtual disk implementation. Hence, my original question.
    My guess is that it does *not* spread them across individual disks, but I just wanted to get confirmation.
    Thanks

    Mandy,
    Thank you for following up on my question.
    Unfortunately the article you referenced doesn't address what I am trying to accomplish.
    The article focuses on saving the same backup job to multiple disks and rotating the disks between on and offsite for enhanced protection.  However, it still requires that an individual backup job fits on a single disk.
    What I am trying to determine is if a single backup job can span across more than one physical disk (during the backup process) without those physical disks being in some type of virtual disk implementation (e.g., storage pool, RAID, etc.).
    Thanks,
    Gerry

  • Windows 8.1 Blue Screen of Death "Critical process died" after Windows update

    Hey there, my Envy laptop has the "Critical Process Died" blue screen of death error after doing 3 things today:
    1. A BIOS update through HP Support Assistant.
    2. An x64 windows process update (optional) through the Control Panel.
    3. An NVIDIA update.
    What can I do to fix this error? I'm okay with a complete system wipe. Please help.
    *Windows 8.1 64bit

    The only option that worked for me was to "reset" my PC, as in a complete wipe. it's working properly again, when I read reviews of windows 8.1 I didn't really believe the people who said stay away from it, but since I've had more problems than I'd wish to, I'm too afraid to go back to it. Thanks anyways guys.

  • Why does Large text in a Form get cut off at the top when I save it as a PDF

    Hi. I've created a form in Acrobat with 2 text fields. I set the size to 40pt and 30pts using Helvetica. When I fill out the form and save-as a PDF the text displays as cut off at the top.
    Here's what I've tried so far:
    Making the text fields MUCH larger than the font.
    Changing fonts. I've tried Helvetica, Verdana, Arial
    Selecting Multi-line
    Does anyone know how I can keep it from cutting off? The only solution I've been able to find thus far is reducing the font size significantly, which is not an option.
    THANKS!

    I'm using Acrbat Pro version 10.1.4
    The text looks perfect in Acrobat. I'm choosing File > Save As from Acrobat and then when I open it with Preview or Reader it cut's off the text.
    Thanks for your help.

  • Spry Gallery - how to get large image to open in a new window?

    Hey guys,
    I'm building a new website and decided to use Spry for the Gallery section. It works like a charm but I want to get the larger version of the image to open in a new window when someone clicks on the normal image? It shouldn't be that difficult but I'm lost. Can anyone help?
    I believe I have to put a <a href> infront of the image something like this:
    <div id="picture">
            <div id="mainImageOutline" style="width: 0px; height: 0px;"><a href="?????" target="_blank" id="??????"><img id="mainImage" alt="main image" src=""/></a></div>
      </div>
    and something to the XML file...
    <photo
    path = "1.jpg"
    width = "300"
    height = "400"
    thumbpath = "1.jpg"
    thumbwidth = "56"
    thumbheight = "75"
    large = "galleries/xyz/large/1.jpg"   <------- this is the large image I want to open in a new windows
    >
    </photo>
    thanks!!

    Actually, the site is for my friend and she really likes this Gallery: http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/spry/demos/gallery/index-air.html
    I just want to keep this one and just edit it, so when I click on the image it opens the large image...

  • Old Laptop died with windows 7, can I still bootcamp it?

    My old hp laptop died (again), and I had windows 7 32-bit install on it, via a student upgrade/discount from Vista.
    Simply, can i still use that copy of windows 7 on my new macbook pro?

    Your library will only be where you put it.
    It has always been very basic to alwasy maintain a backup copy of your computer for this very occasion.  Use your backup copy to put everything back.
    If you have failed to do this, not good at all, then you can redownload some itunes purchases in some countries.  the rest is gone.
    Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store

  • How can I transfer large files from my iPad to PC-windows?

    I have several videos on my iPad (recorded using the iPad camera).  I am trying to get these transferred to my PC-Windows. When I connect the iPad to the PC and try drag-and-drop from the Camera icon, video files greater than 600MB appear with a zero (0 KB) size on the PC.
    This issue has been reproduced using 3 different PCs (Windows XP, Windows 7).
    I have tried the PC-Windows Camera wizard to transfer files (instead of Drag-and-Drop) and I get the same result.
    ITunes does not have an option (on Windows) to transfer these video files (from PC to iPad).
    I am using an iPad 2 with iOS 6.0.1.
    Note: the video files play fine on the ipad.

    Yes, I have tried. All smaller videos and photos transfer fine. It is only with videos > 500 MB that get created on Windows with 0 (zero) size (the file name gets created on windows but with 0 Bytes).
    Let me add that I do not see the "DCIM" option from Windows Explorer. I only see the folder under Scanner and Cameras.
    Anything I need to do to see "DCIM"? I do see DCIM when I connect my iPhone 4 to the same computer, but not the iPAD.
    Thanks

  • Scan to PDF files too large! - Why?? Solution for Windows - How about Mac? (HP-8630)

    Scanning a document to a PDF file of reasonable size has been addressed many times - it is always an issue! My wife is a realtor and frequently needs to scan multiple page documents. I found an actual solution last night:
    27 page letter-size B&W document - Scan to PDF on my HP-8630 AIO using HP software at 300dpi, small file size, BW: 27MB! Too big to email.
    Solution (in Windows 7 at least), if you have Adobe Acrobat:
    Open Adobe Acrobat, go to File Menu -  Create - PDF from Scanner - Configure Presets. Select and configure "Black and White Document":
    Select TWAIN device (NOT WIA) as the scanner; black and white, 300dpi, file size one notch to left (smaller) from center, check "optimize after scan". Select paper size and one- or two-sided scanning. Uncheck "make searchable". Save the preset. (The TWAIN driver was apparently installed with the HP installer, since I did not have to look for it.)
    After placing pages in the Doc Feeder,  go to File Menu, Create - PDF from Scanner - Black and White Document. Watch the magic!
    File size 768k!  Quality indistinguishable from the 27MB version, sharp and clear, all 27 pages! Really!
    Using the HP software, using a lower resolution or sliding the file size slider to smaller makes a muddy scan, and the file  is still huge compared to the Acrobat technique. MUCH worse quality than the Acrobat 768k version.
    Interestingly, using Acrobat to open the 27MB scan and "PRINT" it to the PDF Printer reduced the size to 10MB, with no change in appearance. "Save as smaller PDF" did not reduce the size further.
    What gives, HP?? What can Acrobat do  to scan from your AIO that you can't do?
    I tried on my Mac as well - we use both. No go. On Mac OSX 10.10.1 with latest HP drivers, Acrobat does not see any TWAIN or other driver from within the dialog box described above. Scanning from HP software again yields about 1MB per page.
    Anyone know how to make Acrobat see the scanner on Mac?

    Hi @JosephWit ,
    I see by your post that you are having issues with the PDF scanning size being too big. I will do my best to assist you with this issue.
    The drivers for 10.10 are installed by the Apple Updates. Did you install the 10.9 drivers or are did up run the Apple Updates to install the printer?
    Uninstall the 10.9 printer software and run the Apple Updates to install the proper drivers. Then you can scan with the Apple Software.
    Connect the printer to the Mac by a USB cable and run the Apple Updates to install the printer drivers.
    Go to the Apple, About this Mac, click on the Overview tab and select Software Updates.
    Go to the Apple, Printers and Scanners, delete the USB drivers and disconnect the USB cable.
    Then add the wireless printer as a Bonjour printer if the printer is networked.
    Click on the + sign, highlight the printer, below beside Use: make sure just the printer name is listed. (you might have to click on the drop down to select your printer from the list)
    Here is a document for Scanning in OS X v10.10 Yosemite Without HP Software.
    If you are having issues with Adobe, run the updates. Product updates.
    If you need further assistance, just let me know.
    Have a nice day!

  • How large should I make the partition for Windows XP?

    I am mainly using it for light gaming, the partition means how much of the hard drive is used for windows and windows-based programs/games it can use, right? What does Windows alone need, and what would you suggest? I have about 100GB total disk space left on my macbook.

    This will in part depend on the copy of Windows XP you are using to install. If it is the absolute latest copy you could get it should come with SP3 built in, which will reduce the amount of space necessary. If it is Windows XP SP2 or earlier, you will need significantly more space. I suggest 4.5 - 5 gb just for XP alone, especially in the latter case. After that, find the maximum space that your programs can use on installation, add it all up, and add at least 10% to that. Next, take your amount of physical RAM and add at least that much to your previous total (this accounts for the pagefile). That would be your bare minimum to allow for Windows XP. As long as you don't expect to store significant amounts of data via Windows, that amount can be all you need.
