Large tabular cube w/ lots of measures -- keyboard stuck

hi folks,
I was wondering if anyone has seen this weird behavior: on fairly large tabular cubes (SSAS 2012 SP2), with lots of calculations, the keyboard seems to be stuck, one cannot type or make any modifications to any measures, even after closing a project.
The only workaround is to completely restart the machine. Using Visual Studio 2010 Shell.
Are there any possibly corruptions or calc limitations that one should be aware of?
Notable that this never happens with any small cubes, but just with the largest cube that we have, that has probably tens of calcs.
any thoughts are much appreciated,

According to your description, your keyboard get stuck when processing a huge tabular. However, it works properly when processing a small tabular. Right?
In this scenario, I think the keyboard stuck you mentioned should be the entire machine stuck. Since this only happens for big tabular, I guess it should be caused by lack of hardware resource. Please reserve enough disk space for the .cub file. And
set the memory configuration for SSAS engine and SQL instance:

Hello, I'm trying to create a SSAS Tabular cube from a data loaded to Power Pivot via Power Query (SAP BOBJ connector) but looks like is not yet supported.
Any one tried this before? any workaround that make sense?
The final goal is pull data from SAP BW, BO Universe (using PowerQuery) and be able to create a SSAS Tabular cube.

Depending on the size of the data from Analysis Services, one work around could be to import the data into into Excel and then make an Excel table and then use the Excel table as a data source.

I need these patches from metalink:

Operations. When you configure the database, you must follow these
configuration settings to ensure good performance of BI Beans.
But...
metalink tells me that 2529822 is not a valid patch.
And...

First I would recommend upgrading to database version 9.2.0.4.1 and upgrading to the latest version of BI Beans. The database patch is a two stage patch:
Patch Description
- 3095277 : 9.2.0.4 PATCH SET FOR ORACLE DATABASE SERVER
- 3084634 : 9.2.0.4 ONE-OFF PATCH AND 9.2.0.4.1 SERVER PATCH
If you goto Metalink.oracle.com and type 'Best Practices for Tabular Cube Aggregation and Query Operations' you will see the document listed in the returned results. I would recommend right-mouse click and 'Save Target As' to download the pdf file as clicking on the link does not seem to work very well with my browser.

Measurements of stuck disc as promised; how do I stop the cycling?

Measurements of stuck disc as promised:
When I replied to TWG on Nov 18 2007 I said if I ever get this sucker out I promised to measure it in all dimensions down to a thousandth of a millimeter and post it here.
I got it out. I measured all the other Sony discs in the ten pack and they are remarkably the same notably the center hole and thickness; of coarse they vary some but all are within the same tolerance range disc to disc. Perhaps the stuck disc is singular in one or more dimensions.
The discs are Sony CD-R 700MB "supremas" GB0318C73C131A80
ambient temp 17 c (63 F) when I measured the discs.
Measured with Mitutoyo digital mic and inside telescoping gage.
For comparison I used a disc from same batch that has been burned and played without getting stuck in the drive.
The only significant difference I see is the stuck disc is thicker:
The thickness of the stuck disc is 1.199mm, 1.187 and 1.183 The thickness of the usable disc is 1.166mm, 1.151 and 1.147. These were taken at three places along the outer rim within one centimeter of the outer rim. (interesting to note the discs thickness tends to get thinner as you move toward the center).
id 15.059mm on stuck disc and on usable disc.
There appears to be a more pronounced bur on the disc that stuck than the others. the bur is on the same side as the manufacture's brand label. I don't have a good way to measure the bur. The bur may or may not have a bearing on the disc sticking but there is enough bur it could conceivably have folded over and wedged the hole to the center cone of the drive.
I note a bur around the whole of the outside diameter of the stuck disc that is missing from the usable disc. This could be a result of my fishing expedition to get the disc out but the bur is notably consistent all the way around.

To get the disc out I used method of TWG (he used a case cutter with double back tape). I used a thin metal ruler with double back tape. Be sure there is no cork strip on the ruler; there may not be room in the slot for cork, ruler and disc. Probably don't want chunks of cork in the drive either.
I don't recommend this method. When the disc was stuck in the drive it would open iTunes and then cycle through several attempts to eject and and then would, for the most part, give up and be silent. Now that I have the disc out the drive apparently is completely baffled and continuously cycles as if I had just put in a disc but there is never an icon. In addition the sheet metal thing is across two centimeters of the slot and prevents putting in another disc.
Please if any one knows how to enter a command to put the metal thing out of the way and or disable the drive so it doesn't cycle I would appreciate it if you would tell me. Disc utility does not list the optical drive now that I have the disc out.
Also if any one knows of a drive I can put in that is a better quality drive to replace the MATSHITADVD-R UJ-85J original turkey equipment from Mac. My computer is intel duo 17" iMac early 2007
My advice to anyone with one of these computers (and it is a magical machine in every other way) is to just use an external optical drive connected to a fire wire port and never bother with the slot mount internal drive; unless you don't need the discs you put in it or you have a lot of free time to go back and forth to the mac store, repeatedly, for new warranted computers.

B570 Keyboard Issue.... Keyboard stuck key issue....

Okay...
Earlier in February, My sister accidentally spilled sweet tea (That's right, Sweet Tea) on My BIBB Laptop... After letting it dry for a few days, I found out that the Main Keyboard needed to be replaced, so I bought a replacement Keyboard in June... However, when I plugged it in to my Laptop and tried to start it up, This error occurred:
Error: (I Can't remember the number) Keyboard Stuck Key.
After Unplugging the replacement keyboard (Which is in Great Condition...) I restarted the Computer with my USB Keyboard Connected and it started up fine.... After logging in, I tested my replacement keyboard by plugging it in, and found out that both Shift keys, Backspace keys, arrow keys, and the Number pad on the far right of the Keyboard weren't working....
A friend of mine told me that it was a Motherboard problem and the laptop would have to be replaced, But now I Don't know what To do now....
My question is:
Is there a way to fix this without replacing the whole Laptop? And if so, How?

I'm unable to find any information on Seacreate. Are you sure it's spelled correctly?
Try running a Windows update to see if that finds a driver for it. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Update-a-driver-for-hardware-that-isnt-working-properly
If that updates properly and it's still not working, then it's more than likely a hardware issue. Can you check the keyboard cable connections and make sure it is all secure and not crimped, broken, etc?

Tabular : Using Table only as Measure Group not as Dimension

Hi there i am quite new to the Tabular model, and what i am encountering right now must be something many of you who have had the Chance, must have had to deal with.
I am Trying to Rebuild my Cube in the Tabular Model, Thus i have inserted all the Tables that i also have in the Cube.
Now the Creation of Measures seemed quite simple to me, i just selected the Row i would Need, click the Summation button and i would have a Measure.
Now the Problem i am facing is the following: I have a Measure Group named after the Fact Table, and the Fact Table also shown as a Dimension, my first thought was to hide it from the Clienttools,but i can't hide it from Clienttools because than the Measure
Group will be hidden too,
is there a way to Only get the Measure Group and not get the Dimension ?

When you click "Semantics", you can choose "Attribute" or "Measure" in the "Type" column and choose "SUM/COUNT/MAX/MIN" in the "Aggregation" column.

Cube with non-additive measures

Dimension "Dim_Geography" has levels ZIP_CODE -> CITY -> STATE
e.g. 12345 -> Schenectady -> NY
Dimension "Dim_Store" has levels STORE -> STORE_BRAND -> STORE_LINE
e.g. "Cathy's Fashions #1234" -> "Cathy's Fashions" -> "Clothing, Women's"
Dimension "Dim_Calendar" has levels DAY -> WEEK -> MONTH -> QUARTER -> YEAR (assume 4-4-5 calendar to make roll-up work nicely)
(No example given, it's just a calendar)
Fact "Fact_Visits" has dimensionality <Dim_Geography, Dim_Store, Dim_Calendar> and measures Visitor_Count and Visitor_Value.
The fact is based on a table called "TBL_VISITS" having columns (Geog_ID, Store_ID, Cal_ID, Person_ID, Visitor_Value, Visit_Timestamp), all of which are integers except the last which is a timestamp.
Visitor Value is a number that was calculated earlier and represents a unit value of the visitor. Visitor Value changes daily for each Person_ID. When querying for any level of Calendar other than DAY, the correct Visitor Value is the last one seen for the Person_ID within a given week/month/quarter/year. If no level of Calendar is queried, the last Visitor Value is the correct one.
A row in this table represents a single visit of the person to the store in that zip code. A given Person_ID can appear many times in a day in any given store in any given zip code. Assume we can tell visitors apart so that we can populate "Person_ID" properly.
I can create a series of views that collapses TBL_VISITS to obtain the correct Visitor_Count and Visitor_Value at any combination of dimensionality. (Obviously, I can't create a view that collapses them all.)
Example:

A long winded setup for a bunch of short questions:
1. How do I specify all that in AWM?
2. Can AWM handle the outer joins for views that drop out one or more dimensions?
3. Is there anything special I should do?
4. Am I crazy for wanting to do this???

Thanks for replying. Since the requirement needed diff values at different levels, in the calc script, I fixed on dimensionsI want to include & it works great for a really small set of data. When I load the actual data file & try to calc, it comes up with the following essbase error.I tried to increase the datacache size but the error does not go away. A large universe takes a lot of time to be opened in Designer

Hi All.
When opening a large universe (I can't tell at the moment how large...) it takes a lot of time to open it. a lot of time can be up to two hours (I guess even more).
Well, I have been told that there's a way to open universe in Designer without the Designer verifying objects/tables/whatever in the opened universe, and that can help me open it quickly.
Does anybody knows how to do it ?

can you tell us what is the size of this Universe in terms of:
number of tables, number of objects, size of the .unv file?
Also, is this behaviour specific to this universe or you have other universes having the same problem?
Last, are you 'opening it' as in File/Open or importing it as in 'File/Import...' ?

Cube gets solved but measures are all blank (null)

Anybody have any idea why a very simple cube built in AWM using a view to map to the cube would produce no data populated for any measures. All the dimensional elements are there. The build shows success.
Let me know any other information needed.

Essbase Studio - Create Cube Schema without a Measure or Measures Hierarchy

Using Essbase Studio V 11.1.2.1 I'm trying to create a cube schema. The wizard needs a measures or measures hierarchy in order to proceed. My cube doesn't have a dimension that falls under this category. All dimensions are under the Hierarchies. Is there a way to skip adding anything in the Measures/Measures Hierarchies in order to continue building the cube schema/Model? Any work around?

Hi GlennS, I that I need atleast one measure and thats the dollar amount field from the fact table. So I have done that now...
I'm trying to recreate a cube using Essbase Studio. I'm using EIS from an older essbase version as a template.
While doing a member load In EIS, in the olapisvr.log file, I could see the individual select statements for every dimension/member load. Something like "Member load SQL statement (for dimension CURRENCY_CD) has been generated, start adding member to outline". I cannot locate where I specified this sql or how EIS generates this. The sql is very specific so looks like the EIS generated sql for Member load is being overridden.
Once I figure that out, I need to replicate that in Essbase Studio. Any ideas?

Do you mean data load from a flat file or sql or simply lock and send? An estimate size of your record set would also help.
I get 30 million records into an ASO cube in about 5 minutes from SQL using load rules. This is in 11.1.2.1.

XE4100 keyboard stuck, a lot of beeps

Hi..
My Omnibook XE4100 (1200mhz, 300+ ram) have some keyboard keys stuck: "?" "left arrow" and "-"..i tried to clean the keys but the problem seems to be a faulty keyboard (i use Sharpkeys to redefine those keys to empty function)...but before i purchased a new keyboard..i need to be sure if the laptop beeps is from the faulty keyboard.
-The beeps only start after Bios post (so it´s not a bios beep)..a gray bar from Windows XP appears and while the bar is being filled up, the laptop beeps a lot (like 20/30beeps), but right after the Windows XP logo appears, there are no beeps and the laptop works 100% (beside the keys stuck).
I recently replaced RAM and the Hard drive, reinstalled XP twice..the problems are the same.
I never eared such beeps in my life..i´m affraid that i purchased a new keyboard, but the beeps and keys stuck continue.

Large photo book project - lots of questions

I have 680+ pictures I want to put in a Wirebound photo book.
(It's a book of Matchbook covers, arranged by dominant color.)
I have the pictures grouped in folders (according to major color).
Iphoto only seems to import ALL the photos and removes the folders and grouping.
The only grouping I have available is "Last Import", "Last 12 Months" and "Recent" (which are not the pics).
1) Is there any way to maintain the folder structure so I can import the pictures into the photo book in the order I would like?
The autoflow feature doesn't work because it will group all the pics (without folder organization) into the book, organized by name.
3) How can I find out the dimensions of each photo "slot" so I can reduce pictures to fit in the slot without losing some of the image?
For example, since there are so many pictures, I chose the 16 photos/page option but the only layout available is a "square" type slot. Some of the horizontal images (long matchbooks) get chopped off and the image-size slider is already at the smallest setting. So: what's the size for each slot?
4) Isn't there some sort of option where you can just drag the images into the page and iphoto will adapt the layout for the image? (But maintaining the maximum number of pictures on each page/layout?
Any help or insight will be immensely helpful!

Photo slots do not have "dimensions" - they are a ratio - typically square 1x1 or rectangular 4x3 - You can fit a photo to the frame in most layouts by right clicking on the placed photo and selecting fit to frame

In some layouts for some themes the direction of the frame changes with the placed photo - in others it does not - you simply have to experiment to find the ones that do

On screen Keyboard stuck under menu bar

On one of my GB songs when I select window> Keyboard, to get the onscreen keyboard to show, half of it is running off the top of my screen under the menu bar. I cannot click and drag it down so I can use it. It allows me to stretch it to the right but I cant click on a part of it that allows me to move it/re-position it on screen. The position it is in now will not allow me to use it.

Back to the topic at hand, After reading your post I tried something and it worked. What was happening is when I recorded or worked on something on my 17" MacBook Pro and then brought it over to my G5 with regular (non widescreen format) dual displays it was forcing the keyboard off the screen. So I tried opening the file on the MBP and moved the keyboard way down to the bottom, saved, moved the file to the G5, and when I opened it the keyboard was in the middle. Problem solved.
You learn something new everyday. And I am sure this will happen to someone else and hopefully they will search these forums and find this post for a solution.
