Large text problem Final Cut X

Does anyone know why the large text appears cropped as in the picture?

This is clearly a bug that affects some graphics cards.
Do use FCPX Feedback as Fox suggested.

  • What is the best way of compressing a large 3 hour final cut file

What is the best way of compressing a large 3 hour final cut file. I shot the play and it is in final cut and I rndered it so now I have a 22gb file that I need to put on a dvd . Any suggestions
    Thanks

Presuming your menus aren't complicated(include audio or video) the total size for the MPG-2 and AC3 files should probably be under 8GB for a dual layer disk. The inspector will tell you the estimated size. 2-pass varible bit rate would be recommended.
Trying to fit 3 hours on a DVD-5 will only bring very noticable quality hits. Compressor will let you change the average bit rate so that you can fit 174 minutes but trade-off isn't worth it in my opinion.
Be aware that dual-layer -R and +R media may not play well for everyone everywhere.
I presume you are not making 1000 or more copies? If you were replication could solve this.
One other alternative would be to break-up the show into two parts and spread it across two DVD-5s.

  • How do I center text in Final cut Pro?

Hi, does anyone know how to directly center text with more than one line of text in Final Cut Pro?
If I have more than one line it doesn't seem to center properly. I've tried wireframe (which is inaccurate), center values (which doesn't work) and Boris 3D (which does the job but the space between letters isn't accurate so I need to try an alternative method).
    Any ideas?

In Title 3D you use the Position X/Y button to adjust the height. The spacing between the letters in Title 3D can be adjusted both in tracking and in kerning by placing the cursor between a letter pair. Title 3D is perhaps one of the most accurate and precise text positioning titlers available in any software.

  • Problem: Final Cut Pro X inaccurately reports "Out of disk space", when I have 333GB free.

Trying to "share" the compound clip I've created as an mp4 1080p file.

Editing MP4 media can create all sorts of havoc with FCP.
Convert the clips to .mov files – either Compressor or MPEG Streamclip will do that – preferably in Pro Res 422

  • Problems exporting from Text From Final Cut

I'm having some troubles exporting from final cut. I'm trying to export uncompressed full quality version of a short we've finished editing. When I export it as a self contained, quicktime movie, the video looks great but any of the text in the film looks pixelated and bad.
I tried to export using the quicktime conversion option, but whenver I do that I end up with great looking text, but the video doesn't look right. I can't really describe it, but the edges of anything moving look a little off.
I've tried making the text in livetype and importing it, as well as useing the text generators in FCP, but they both yeild the same results when exporting the final product.
Some help please! I want good looking video, and good looking text in my exports!

  • Can't edit title text in Final Cut Pro X

Okay I'm seriously about ready to pull my hair out. Every time I go to edit text, FCPX crashes. Now I have to close the inspector before editing text for it to not crash...and that works sometimes. But now I have a new problem. After exporting my movie, I noticed I needed to make some adjustments to titles... Tried double clicking the text in the viewer...it doesn't even let me edit it anymore! Really? Why would you even release this Apple? Final Cut Pro X is clearly not finished. What a joke.

    Hello,
It seems I have nearly the same problem. The simple fact of selecting the title in the project or in the project library crashes FinalCut Pro.
I thought it was caused by the accended frensh characters, like for an imported iMovie Project, but this is not the case. Even without accended characters, the crash is systematic.
Thanks a lot for the idea of closing the inspector! Now I can work with titles (sometimes at all) without crashing
The good news is: I can edit the title, even when re-opening the project later, if I:
    1. Select the title element with the inspector closed
    2. Open the inspector
    3. Modify some parameters like the colors of the titles.
    N.B.
    - The first time I did it, the inspector opened, empty, on the left side of the screen !?!
    - It works even in the precedent little project wich I encountered the bug
    - I can edit too in the viewer.
    My config:
MacBook 2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    Mémoire  4 Go 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
Graphisme  NVIDIA GeForce 9400M 256 MB
    Logiciel  Mac OS X Lion 10.7.1 (11B26)

  • Adding text to Final cut ?!

Being new to Final cut im finding it hard to add text. In final cut I make the desired text i want. I then get rid of the wireframe and change it to image. I then click and drag the image across into the superimpose box. When i do this it puts the text behind the clip and doesn't overlay it ?
Any advice would be very helpful.
    Thanks Chris

I suspect that there's user error involved here, but there are many ways to skin the proverbial cat in fcp. Try dragging the text clip to a higher video track in the timeline (rather than in the canvas). If you work this way, the in point in the timeline is determined where you drag it to and the duration is determined by the in and out in the viewer.
You can also set your timeline patch panel correctly and use the f9 or f10 key to make the edit.

  • Exporting text to Final Cut

How do I export the animated text (only), I created to use in Final Cut Pro? The composition back ground is not transparent.

    > How do I export the animated text (only), I created to use in Final Cut Pro? The composition back ground is not transparent.<
Painfully fundamental stuff, all covered it he manual that comes with AE.
Ae is huge. Much more humongousness than FCP even. You've got weeks and months of work to do learning how to use AE so start taking the manual to the gym with you and don't be afraid to open the online nhelp system, lame as it is. Just type in "alpha" and start cruising.
We welcome and encourage posts like yours but, honestly, it's faster and easier for you to look stuff like this up yourself. There is also a high traffic beginning AE forum at the creativecow.net.

  • Left-aligning text in Final Cut 7

I am using Final Cut Pro Version 7.0.3, doing mostly subtitles for TV series.
Because of the amount of titles done daily, and because we left-align around 30% of all our subtitle text, I would save a lot of time if there was a keyboard shortcut to left-align text in the subtitle clips.
Text Settings under the Control tab in the Viewer, automatically chooses Center Alignment, which is fine, but how can I left-align text without having to choose from the Alignment options? I could not find this option in the keyboard layout, so I could not assign a key for left-alignment.
Does anyone know how to do this?

This is not a direct answer to your question, but in my experience most FCP-7 users don't use the Text option in text intensive projects. As you have discovered, the Text options are limited.
Instead they use Boris Title 3D which is bundled in FCP-7:
Boris Title 3D gives you much more control over your text, and defaults to left justification:
You might take a look and see if using this tool (which Apple provided to address the shortcomings of the Text generator) can help you.

  • HT5958 The latest update has already caused problems, Final Cut can't find my old projects and events to update. Can anyone offer any advise?

On update Final cut updated some of my projects and events bringing them into the new interface. I had older projects that I didn't want visible before the update in folders labled 'Final Cut Events (Hidden)'. The update couldn't see these and since I can't find a way of bringing them into Final cut 10.1.
Every attempt ends with a message indicating that no projects can be found.
    Any advise welcome.

Move them out of there and put them in the correct FCP project folder structure.

  • Text for Final Cut Express HD 3.5

I'm hoping that Tom Wolsky will answer this question. I purchased the Final Cut Express 2 Editing Workshop, second edition and learn a great deal about FCE HD workflow. Now that I've upgraded to 3.5 I'm wondering if there is enough new to this upgrade to warrant purchasing the FCE HD 3.5 book by Tom Wolsky. Thanks.

The main improvements in FCE 3.5 are the Dynamic RT and Keyframing of Effects.
Dynamic RT involves virtually no learning, Keyframing does.
However, many users don't even know what Keyframing is, let alone how to use it.
Are you likely to need it?
I would suggest you hang on to the book you have and if the time comes that you feel it can't cope, then think about getting the new one.
I have used FCE 1.0.1, FCE 3.0 and FCP 5.1 and to be honest, the differences between all three are so marginal that you can hardly tell which one you are using.
Tom and others may think differently.

  • Problem Final Cut Pro 5 and Motion 2

Using the video from the original tutorial and when I import the Motion Project back into Final Cut Pro the video comes in the incorrect size I checked to insure it is 720x480 and that Anamorphic is on - but the width is still off by sexeral pixels.. Comments .. Help Please...

My guess is that if you created the project in Motion, it uses the standard .9 pixel aspect for DV. FCP uses the non-usual-but-still-within-guidelines .89 - try changing that in your Motion project and see what happens...

  • Pro App Serial Problem - Final Cut Studio Logic Studio and Soundtrack

    Installed Logic Studio 8
    then
Installed Final Cut Studio - Academic
    both include Soundtrack.
now Soundtrack has the academic splash screen.
If i wanted to... how can i assign soundtrack to my logic studio serial?
would i have to reinstall soundtrack? is there any situation where this would matter?
    i don't know.
    thanks everyone.

I wouldn't worry about it. The program is exactly the same whether it thinks it's an academic version or not, and I can't think of any other reason why this would make any difference.
If you really wanted to see whether you could get it connected back to Logic, go to HD/Library/Application Support/Pro Apps, and dump the file that says 'Logic Studio System ID.' This is the file that holds your Logic serial number. Next time you load Logic, put your serial number in again and it will create a new Logic Studio System ID file. When you do this it will make the Logic System ID file newer than the FC System ID file, and maybe Soundtrack will be connected to this one instead of FC's. But again, don't worry about it - it really makes no difference at all.

  • Can't edit text in final cut pro x

    Hi
Have been reading through the posts, but I am still unable to highlight the text to edit, can any one help?
    Steve

    Steve,
There are definitely folks out there that have had the same problem in Lion.  Just to cover the obvious basics however ... Select the clip with the text in it (we are talking about Titles, right?). Then position your timeline vertical playback marker somewhere in that clip.  Go up to the preview window and make sure the little rectangle icon in the lower left corner is Blue (enabled) ... a little horizontal line will appear near the center of the text area with a little circle on the end.  Then go to a word in your text and double click it.  Does it select the word? Making sure again that the text clip is actually selected on the timeline, if it does not select the text then I probably cannot help you.  There are other discussions on this topic, but I really do not know for sure if there are resolutions.  FYI, I use FCP X with Lion and 16GB on a 2011 21" iMac and use text titles about 20 times a week and do not have a problem at all.  Still I know the problems others are seeing are real.  Best wishes,
    stephen

  • Attractive Onscreen Text within Final Cut? Is it Possible?

Why does onscreen text look so good on the computer and so terrible in the finished project?! I need suggestions as to a Font, Setting, color, Something....that will make the text look good on video & DVD. I'm using FCP 4.5, on a G4 Tower. I'm using Title 3D right now, because I'm adding subtitles to a video, and this many LiveType movies would be labor intensive. I've tried sans serif and serif fonts, added and removed drop shadow, tried outlining, etc. All looks well on a still frame, but when you playback, it wiggles, it's blurry, it's awful. It has always been thus! But with the amount of text I'm using for subtitles.....it needs to look clean. I'd be willing to use LiveType if necessary, if that's what it takes, but would love to avoid it if possible. I've tried the de-flicker filter, doesn't make a difference. Anyone out there ever have nice looking onscreen text?

Type that looks good on video may not look good on DVD if it is too small--below say 20 / 22 points-- and has serifs. When compressing to MPEG2 both of these factors can cause the type to break down and become a blob of pixels rather than defined characters.

There's not really a formula...we all have the same factors to deal with, especially the DV codec which is not particularly friendly to graphic elements. If you are able to use an uncompressed codec-- 8 or 10 bit, your graphics / type will be cleaner. The uncompressed codecs have a deeper color space for superior rendering. The wiggling of type on a television comes from interlacing. Once again, if the type is tiny, it will appear to wiggle more because one screen line will represent a more substantial portion of the type. To reduce wiggle, put a small blur on teh typ, say .2 pixels. Should clean it up a bunch.
I'd be willing to use LiveType if necessary,
if that's what it takes, but would love to avoid it
    if possible.
The Boris plugin and Livetype both use vector graphics to creat type, the FCP type tool doesn't. Generally speaking, this will not be much of a factor in DV codec once all is renered, but check it out. Maybe you'll see a difference.
    Good luck and happy typing.
