Large .WAV file getting slowed/transposed down!

Hello all! HELP!
Why is it that I drag and drop a .WAV file into Garageband (it is a LARGE .WAV file at 779 MB) and it loads just fine and then plays the file DOWN a half-step lower??? So it slows down the whole file, in essence.
Any ideas?

You need to convert it to 44.1 16 bit. You can do that with iTunes.

  • Reading, filtering and playing large WAV files

    Hi!
I want to build an application that reads LARGE wavefiles, filters them and plays them via the soundcard.
I tried to build something with the standard blocks available in Labview 7.0, but I keep running out of memory. The files I want to filter and play are simply too large The filesize is typ. 650Mb = 1 hour of stereo CD quality audio. The files I am using just won't play even on a WIN XP machine with 1Gb of memory.
Next step was to build a function that loads the WAV files in blocks of ~16kB. This works fine, but now the filtering does not work anymore; after each block, the 'FIR Filter' block seems to reset its states. The result is a very bad repeating artifact in the sound. The repetition-rate is related to the buffer size.
Does anyone have experience with this type of application? Help and examples are -very- welcome (as I am new to Labview... .
    Many thanks,
    Dr.dB

I have created a VI that will do the continuous FIR filtering you need. I assume you want to filter a 'stereo' signal so the VI takes an array of waveforms as input. In this version the FIR filter coefficients (kernel) is common to all channels. If this is not what you need you can correct the VI accordingly.
The control 'algorithm' specifies whether the FIR convolution is internally performed in the time or frequency domain. Changing the 'algorithm' does not affect your result but affects your performances. Select time domain (direct) if your kernel size (number of FIR coefficients) is, say less than 100, otherwise select 'frequency domain'.
Try the attached example and let me know if you have any problems.

  • Wav file gets out of sync with sequence

    Hello,
I have a 30min sequence that I sent the dialogue to an audio engineer for clean up as an OMF. He sent it back and it gets out of sync about the first 2 minutes or so. By the 30th minute the audio is out of sync about 47 frames.
I've tried multiple things, couple of observations: the WAV file's waveforms in the timeline show that all audio is in sync, yet when I playback in the timeline audio its out of sync. I even opened up the wav file on Quicktime player and timecodes from quicktime player and my video timeline do match, its only when i place the wav file in the timeline that it appears out of sync.
I've sent the whole sequence to Soundtrack Pro as a multitrack project. When I playback there it is in sync with the video!!! I export back and still same issue...
Editing on a Macbook Pro OS X 10.8.4 2.6GHZ Intel Core i7 on FCP 6.0.6.
The sequence settings: Apple ProRes HQ 25fps. Audio settings: 48 KHz, 16-bit, channel grouped.
Wave file (sent by audio engineer): 16bit 48.000KHz. Data Rate: 1528.21 kbits/s
    Any help would be amazing!
    Thanks,

    One possibility
You need to have your easy setup have a frame rate that exactly matches your sequence settings BEFORE you import the audio file.  Doesn't seem to always cause a problem, but it can happen.

  • HP 2025dn print spooler shows large shocklwave file, prints slow as molasses

My fairly new HP 2025dn prints powerpoint slides very, very slowly, especially as compared to what the speeds I was led to believe I would see with this model.
On one forum where I found a similar complaint, a respondent gave instructions for checking out the print spooler to see if there was a hidden file impeding the flow.
I don't think there is, but what is now puzzling me is that when I print a page that is, say, 200kb, while the print job is running the print spooler dialogue folder is showing two files present-- an SHD file of 11kb, and a Shockwave Flash Object that is much larger (2.2MB) than the file actual size of the file that I'm printing.
Is there a fix to this-- either via the print spooler, the driver, or removing/compressing an item or object on the page that would speed up the agonizingly slow printing speed which I am experiencing?

    Hi BillW1,
I would suggest to try the following:
Uninstall the software. Uninstalling the Printer Software.
Clean boot the computer. How to perform a clean boot in Windows.
Disable any Antivirus programs. Disable Antivirus software.
Disable any firewall programs. Windows Firewall from start to finish.
Create a new user account. Managing User Accounts and Logins (Windows 8).
Reinstall using the HP Printer Install Wizard for Windows.
If these steps do not resolve your issue proceed with backing up your files, and reinstalling Windows 8.
Hope this solves the problem, and have a good day!

  • Handling large wave files

    Hi,
I got a 2gb wave recording of a live gig. What I want to do is to clean it, add some effects and finally export it into separate mp3 files - one for each number.
    What would you do?
I've tried blading the wavefile and moving them to each separate track but is it the right way?
    Kindly,
    Jesper

Here's one method. Bring the file in to STP as an audio file project, not a multi track project. Place a marker at a point between songs ("M" on the keyboard). Double click between a set of markers on the waveform. This highlights the section between the markers. Do a copy (apple c). Then do a "control - apple - n". This opens a new audio file project with the copied audio. Do your processing, fades, etc. Then save the file as an aiff. Mp3 won't be an option at this point, but you can covert them when your finished. Repeat for each song.

  • Imac gets slower with iphoto

    Hello,
I own a imac g5 1.8 with 1gyg of ram. and im starting ti have around 8000 pictures...and my iphoto is getting slower.... (iphoto library is on a externat hd)
Besside adding new memory is there a way to either
    a. get faster result from iphoto
    b. build more then one library that i can open when i need it insetad of opening all of them?
    Thanks

    Hi Mysteriousmind,
I have a 3,000 image library at 3 gigs in size.
I use a Canon camera which does not make larger Makernotes in the EXIF data.
If you want to find out more about the large Makernote problem that slows iPhoto down to a crawl, visit this thread
    http://discussions.info.apple.com/webx?[email protected]@.68b4c129
    Apple Macintosh iPhoto 5 slowness
If you do have one of the cameras that have large Makernote files you may want to try (iPhoto) Exif Cleaner
-Will more memory help speed iPhoto up? It sure will and many have noted that it has.
-There are steps you can take to speed up scrolling in the iPhoto Library.
       do not use shadows
       do not use outlines
       use white for background
view by rolls and keep the rolls closed
when viewing images keep them around 5 or less across in the rows
choose not to "show photo count for albums"
If you have thousands of images it is also advisable to make multiple libraries. Smaller libraries will load and work faster. Use the Option key when launching iPhoto to create and switch between libraries.
You can also use iPhoto Library Manager or iPhoto Buddy to manage your libraries.
    iPhoto Library Manager
    iPhoto Library Manager documentation
this page will show you everything you can do with iPhoto Library Manager.
You can also try iPhoto Buddy
You should have a t 15% free space on your hard drive. Things get slow after that.

  • Is it possible to import a wav file into flash that is 48MB?

If I can only crunch the file down by 90% then I'm still at a
huge amount of MB. What is a "reasonable" amount of MB's that can
be uploaded so it loads quickly enough for dial up folks?
I have a client with a 10 minute video. He has it saved in
MPG and WAV. In wav he just told me it's at 48MB.
Should I even bother with a file size this large?
    Any advice out there??
    Linda

    Hi,
If you target audience will use a dial up connection, then
you should consider the SWF file size to be small, I do not know a
standard, but I guess not more than 200-300 k. And use a preloaded
    in the first of it.
The large WAV files helps increasing the file size, but it is
not the only reason. You have to tell your client to consider the
size in the files he or she sends. And you can optimize your file
and idea storyboard to keep the size small.

  • Splitting .wav Files from LPs in WaveStu

    Hi,
Does anyone know how to split a large .wav file using Creative WaveStudio? I haven't been able to find out how in the help files or online knowledgebase.
I have a SB Li've! 24-bit and have successfully recorded LPs to .wav files in 96kHz/24-bit resolution (I plan to take advantage of the higher resolution afforded by the DVD specification over normal audio CDs and make music-only DVDs). I've been capturing whole sides of LPs and now need to split the resulting file into tracks.
I can think of two work arounds:
) record one track at a time.
    2) make individual tracks from several copies of the large file.
But it would be easier to just be able to split the large file into individual tracks. Any help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks.

if you only deals with STEREO 24/92 files then wave studio should be able to split them easily.
if you're dealing with multi-channel 24/96 files then I think Goldwave isn't able to process them correctly (it's not indicated it supports multichannel files in the product description).
If you plan to play your records on a PC only, then why you do not compress them with Windows Media codec (lossless for 5./24bit/96kHz, or Professionnal for 7./24bit/96kHz max). You'll be able to fill more your compilations without any hearable audio loss (with the lossless one yes).
Windows media encoder can do this very well, as well as indexing its media formats.

Is there a way to pull a voicemail message out of a mailbox as a wav file and TFTP it down to a pc? I am using CME 4.0 on a 2811 router with Unity Express AIM Module (V 2.3.2)

Yes, you can configure integrated messaging with CUE to access voicemail using Outlook or another IMAP email client. Take a look at the following link.

  • Importing large audio file. HOw do I expand 'measure' limit?

I can import the large WAV file no problem. My problem is I cannot listen to it all because the default 'measure' limit is somewhere in the 200's and the imported file is significantly longer than that. I can drag it at the top to be as long as I like but this takes a long time to manually drag it out to be longer. There got to be an easier way to do this. ANy help would be great.

The actual figure from the manual is "8550 quarter notes, or about 2158 bars in 4/4 time".
Whatever the time signature or tempo, the limiting factor is the number of quarter notes — 8550 of them. So if your file would extend over more quarter notes than that at the current tempo, then adjust the tempo to be as low as is necessary to give you the duration you require.

  • In large PDF files my cursor moves around the page at warp speed. It does not seem to make any difference if I slow it down with Sys Prefs. This is not only in preview but also other programs to open PDFs.

In large PDF files the cursor moves at warp speed with a mind of it's own, I've tried slowing it down in Sys Pref with no luck. On small files cursor action is normal. This happens in Safari, Preview and other programs that use PDF files. Sorry to say this does not seem to be a new problem with 7.# I've had it with prvevious versions of operating system Right now I'm using a Apple wireless mouse and key board. Using the USB keyboard and mouse the same problem does not go away.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you boot, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, reboot as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of Steps 1 and 2.

  • Illustrator CC very slow to open and save large format files

I work in a print shop that prints biggish stuff. I will frequently have files that postscript to close to a GB or more. Working on simple vector art with a few images in CC is not too much of a problem, but I still notice CC is slower than CS 6. The big problem is when I get a few 200mb PDF's, or files with layers of transparent PSD files in them etc, big busy files, then AI CC really bogs down, or frequently crashes altogether. CS 6 is MUCH better. I don't have the font issues, AI CC works fine with simple files. Saving & opening these big files is such a problem, I just save them back to CS 6, but that causes problems too, I do not want to, nor should I have to have 2 versions open at the same time. I always try to optimize the files as best possible, but it is tough sometimes as they R supplied by the customer, and the time it takes. We save to a Windows Server 2008 R2 box over gigabit network, which I know is not best practice, but no choice with the sheer volume of files. Would B insane to try to keep track & copy them back & forth, and it was never a big issue with CS 6. I am the first victim in our office, but the other 3 Mac Pro's will B switching over to CC this week, and I know the operators will B crying.
Anyone else out there having the same large file problems?
    THX
    Mac Pro 2.4GHZ 12 core 32GB 1TB
    Mac OS X 10.7.5

I'm not sure Adobe would like this, but it seems to be working for us on Mac OSX 10.9.3 and Illustrator CC 2014
Go to your user Library > Preferences folder and open com.adobe.mediabrowser.plist using TextEdit.
Select all the text and delete it.
    Save the file
Get Info and lock the file.
I also removed the com.adobe.mediabrowser.plist.lockfile from the Preferences folder.
So far doing this really improves performance in Illustrator CC 2014. Opening and saving files happens at a reasonable rate; however there is a down side. Preferences no longer save. Changes made to pallettes, etc. have to be redone everytime Illustrator is opened.
Other posts mention having Verdana and Trebuchet installed. I didn't find this to help at all.

  • Large online photo files cause slow Mac with spinning color wheel

My Mac Mini has been gradually getting slower to launch apps, any app, and now usually includes 15-30 seconds of spinning color wheel. Sometimes I get the wheel and delays while browsing. Finder windows populate slowly with file icons/names.
This behavior seems to have started, and gradually increased, since upgrading to 10.6 about 8 months ago but it also seems to be related to viewing large photo files online, since Snow Leopard.
One repeatable problem is viewing a large 2 or 3mb photo file online. I notice in Activity Monitor that Safari (both 4 and now 5 at 64bit) will dramatically increase the Real and Virtual Memory used, and not decrease even after the browser window is closed. In a few minutes the User CPU % will max out (at about 75% while System uses 25%) and the Mac while freeze for several minutes (Safari not responding) until CPU usage goes back to normal, but the Mac will be so sluggish then that I have to restart. I usually Force Quit Safari.
I have Repaired Permissions (1000s of Airport Utility were repaired but the JavaVM permissions report fixed but are on the list of repairs again a few minutes later) with Disk Utility and Cocktail, scanned with VirusBarrier X6, monitored network connections for months using Little Snitch and usually leave open Activity Monitor for checking out the action. I have read a lot of support docs and forums but I can't find the problem.
Any idea how to rid myself of this bizarre behavior?
