Larger Bleed Options + Bleed Marks (similar to InDesign)

I'd love to see the Bleed for Illustrator go above the 1" max (maybe not as far as InDesign's 6", but bigger would still be nice). Working in large/gran format, we often work in bleeds up to 4", and it'd be nice to not always have to reduce our files to a scale just to accomodate the program's lack of bleed.
It would also be nice to have an option to include Bleed for printer's marks. InDesign currently does this, and it doesn't seem like it'd be a difficult addition to Illustrator (since Bleed is now a standard feature).

No. If the document is meant to have bleed you need to include it in the PDF (You are sending PDF, not native files, right?), along with crop marks. You can see the PDF on screen, even if you can't print it full bleed. The commercial printer is going to print on a larger sheet and trim off the excess to give you edge-to-edge prints.

Saving trim, bleed and registry marks

I am trying to set up a series of calendar pages for professional printing. The printer has requested I forward in 'eps' format with trim,bleed and registry marks. However, nowhere on here can I find instructions on how these marks can be saved to the file using the print dialogue. Only options available are 'cancel' , 'done' and 'print'. Since I don't want to cancel or print I used the 'done' option and forwarded the file to the printer. The printer reports than none of the markings are saved to the files.

Raising the print-dialog without actually printing will not create an eps-file – because you did not actually print anything.
And from what I remember from your original post the printer asked for an eps-file, not a psd-file with some customized print-settings.
If you are a photographer or some other professional in the field of graphic design or the like you may want to look into Acrobat (and I wrote »Acrobat Professional«, not »Adobe Professional«) and/or proper layout applications like Indesign for tasks like this one.
Edit: Though there are probably freeware alternatives, too.

Bleeds and Trim Marks

So I am desinging a business card for a company I work for. The company we are sending them off too obviously needs to have the bleed and trims marks. The only thing I can't figure out is how do I make the bleed marks visible to them? When I print the document it shows me the trim marks but since I have a white background, it looks as if there is no border. Should I add a border to the actual Artboard?

You can use the automated marks
If you want to draw your own trimmarks
file >> document setup>> set the bleed amount - you will see a red line showing you where the bleed ends

Need to export pages document as PDF with bleed and crop marks, HOW do I do that?
The printer needs to have bleed in the document to be able to crop.

Welcome to the forum.
Pages does not have bleeds, crop marks nor slugs.
You will need to increase the page size all round by 3/8" or 10mm and add them as 100% cmyk rules to the corners.
Best done in Word Processing mode with the crops as master objects so they appear on every page.
Crude, primitive and harking back to what I had to do back in the 80's and early 90's, but Pages seems to be in a time warp.

The only way I see this would be possible is through using JS that you can insert using the Object -> Insert HTML option, you may grab the XML to HTML code from here - http://www.w3schools.com/xml/xml_to_html.asp
In order to test this out, simply download the sample XML file from the following location - http://www.w3schools.com/xml/cd_catalog.xml and save it somewhere locally. Now add this file to your Muse project using File -> Add Files for Upload option, it would then appear within the Assets panel.
Add the code to your page and update the path referencing the file cd_catalog.xml to assets/cd_catalog.xml. Now on previewing the page in browser, you should see the populated HTML from the XML.

Did you purchase the ring tone on our website or on the phone?

So, i have created a business card with a .125in bleed all around in photoshop. I know that you can go to File->print->output in photoshop and specify crop marks and the amound of bleed...however, i have saved my business card as a PDF from photoshop. I want to print from the PDF version as i have the plug-in quite imposing 2 for acrobat and use step and repeat. How do i add the crop marks in the right place from Acrobat on the business card?

Do you have Quite Imposing Plus 2 or just Quite Imposing 2?

I like to use collective fonts as microsoft word let me in the option fonts/collections but in InDesign CC only got favorites, why is this so limited, i like order and group fonts similar to work more selective and don't see hundreds of fonts. Please Desi

I got created a fonts collections in fonts catalog.app and i can see them in collections in the program microsoft word, unfortunately in InDesign CC is not posible, only got all the list of fonts available in the computer, the option to reduce the view of fonts is favorites or restrict by part of the name or type. I believe this feature most by included as default in InDesign CC. Manage fonts collection is a pretty good option to view big differents type of fonts selected together. even the smart collection are not visibles.

InDesign users use normally paragraph styles and character style, no need to sort out font collections. only when you set up the styles.
NEVER work without styles, don't us style overrides.
But you can type in any part of the font name and you get all fonts with this expression in the name, not necessary the first letters.

Bleed and crop marks for a magazine. need help

Can anyone tell me how to place the crop marks for a multiple page project ?
For example on a left page do i have to set the crop marks only on the left side of the page or all around it ?
*i'm using PS because i have no experience with ID.

How to disable "shift-option" from zooming out in InDesign?

Hi all,
This truly is driving me crazy...how can I disable the "shift-option" shortcut so that I do not zoom out in InDesign? I have searched through the keyboard shortcuts but cannot find where or how to disable this:( I use the shortcut a LOT when I am drag-copying something that needs to be on the same horizontal or vertical line as the the item I am copying from.

I haven't had time to come back here and post a reply because I've been so incredibly busy working on a catalog. I do have to say that this zooming out is KILLING me and cutting heavily into production time. This was not happening in ID CS5 and only seems to have been happening with ID CS6. There is no third key and it doesn't seem to happen ALWAYS...so I am completely baffled. Normally it is when I shift-option drag an object. Sometimes even just option-dragging an object causes it to happen. I just don't know what is causing this or what I can disable to stop it from happening:(

CSS in CS4: Can I create "nested styles" similar to InDesign's?

I am working on the obituary archive section of a newspaper website. I have lists of similar 3-line "units", and I have a different class style set up for each line. A typical "unit" would be:
(Person's name) - bold weight, soft return
(Person's age/residence) - regular weight, soft return
(Date of obit publication) - smaller text, hard return
In InDesign, I could easily set up a nested paragraph style (with the help of defined character styles) to automatically format this, but I haven't been able to figure out a quick way to do so in Dreamweaver. So I waste a lot of time selecting different class styles for each line to make it look how I want it. Is it possible to make this simpler? Am I making it too hard?

You are in a way. What are your skills with HTML and CSS? If 'minimal' then you are in for a rough ride. DW doesn't take kindly to that....
It would be a simple matter to define a few descendent selectors that would style everything in each of those units automatically. Does that mean anything to you?
For example -

How can I enable CJK typesetting options in English version of InDesign CS6?

I've installed InDesign CS6 recently in English (International). I need to typeset a Chinese text vertically.
I've heard of shareware plugins like "World Tools Pro" that can enable CJK special typesetting options, but I need a cheaper approach.
Does anyone know how to typeset CJK text with a freeware plugin or internally without plugins?

Thank you for your prompt reply! I understand that it's not easy for developers to make a plug-in without profit, especially in the Creative industry nowadays... So maybe a "free" plug-in is not what I should demand for, right?
I've heard of a way to "sort of" enable the CJK editing options by playing some regedit magic! (HERE) But I hate this because it changes my entire UI into other language... (well I'm a Chinese and English reader but I've stuck to English version of InDesign for a long time... ) So may someone suggest some other possible ways to change settings internally like regedit-ing other than plugins?
BTW, when googleing, somebody actually says that using a Chinese/Japanese/Korean version of Microsoft Word to type the CJK text and copying it to Id afterwards may work... Well I've tried but it seems to fail. Also someone suggests that since Illustrator's text box support some "pseudo-CJK options" (vertical text, rotating text, but the language can still NOT be recognised as CJK...), just copy the paragraph made in Illustrator to InDesign will work. But the latter method doesn't allow further editing of text. (most likely because the copied content is soon recognised as vector image in Id) Are these all true?
