Larger jpeg files.

My file size is saving around 12mb when i used to get 20mb when converting from cr2 or tiff files to jpeg using photoshop in creative cloud,how can i regain the larger size please?have i ticked something i shouldn't have.I also used to use import my images into Bridge when connecting my camera at the start of the process but now import into Lightroom 5 on startup,thanks.

Think you might be right Allen - The 12 quality saved jpegs seem to be pretty high quality, closer to the original than maybe the files saved in Ps at quality 12. I have just run an identical set of processing actions on all the files in Photoshop and the jpegs previously saved in Aperture at 12, 11 and even 8 quality settings seem to be better than the same files saved at 12 in Ps
Bizarrely the file size drops from 10.6mb at quality setting 12 in Aperture, to 3.2mb when saved just one notch down at quality setting 11 in Aperture. That is a massive drop, esp considering the next one down, saving at quality 10 results in a 2.8mb file
rw just ran some checks and tests on the file export settings and file sizes in Aperture, on a file I sent him, and we get the same results. So at least my version of Aperture is not up the wall !!
Would be useful to have the explanations from Apple as to the vast variance in settings and file sizes, but I guess we will just have to keep guessing - and buying more and more hard drives for all the large files
I am considering keeping the RAW originals in future, and I suppose in this case I need only save smaller jpegs, and issue at whatever size they are needed at the time - just needs a bit of planning to look after an ever increasing collection, which is about to have two sets of images added at a time now. Added to the already amassed 80 000 images at last count !)

How to read local large JPEG files and display into Images Tile

I can read the local multiple files by FLEX/AIR FileListEvent
and loader to read the large JPEG files but cannot display them
into a TileList. Since it is a number of images files, how can I

How do I create a pdf from a large jpeg file

I am trying to convert a 20MB jpeg file into PDF using acrobat but I get an error that says the file is either not supported or is a corrupted/damaged file. However, I can open the jpeg in windows image viewer and photoshop.
Why not convert it in photoshop you ask? This is because every time I try to save a large file as pdf in photoshop, I get a corrupted file. I get the error "out of memory" when I try to open the file.
The 20MB jpeg file was originally a psd file, saved as jpeg and now being converted to pdf. Questions:
Is there a file size limit to convert to pdf in acrobat?

I was able to receive help from Adobe chat and resolve the issue. I did not get any answers as to why I was getting the error message. But to get around the error message, these are the steps:
1. Save image as Jpeg (in photoshop or whatever)
2. In windows explorer, right-click on jpeg file and click "open file with" and choose Adobe Acrobat
3. Once the file is open in Acrobat, File > Save (not save as) then save in desired file name.
This is another option to save jpegs as PDFs. An even better option for saving images into PDFs is to save the file as Photoshop EPS format in photoshop, you can then open it in Acrobat to save as a PDF. While saving as Jpeg and converting to pdf yielded a ~15mb file, saving the files as a PhotoshopEPS first then converting it to PDF yields a smaller file, at ~9mb. Still the same quality.

Slow render times with large jpegs - complete system lag

In a project i'm working on I have two large jpegs with a small zoom scaling effect. Going from 100 to 103 percent.
I've noticed that both Adobe Media Encoder and Premiere Pro experience a heavy slow down in render time as soon as the jpegs have to be rendered.
Not only does the render speed almost come to a halt, the complete system lags very heavy, even the mouse cursor won't respond well.
This happens when i have GPU acceleration enabled and when i do a 2 pass H264 encoding.
When I have the GPU acceleration disabled the render goes very smooth, and doesn't seem to slow down...
The jpeg is 4023 x 2677, and 6,97 MB large.
Scaling the jpeg down to about 1920x1080 in Photoshop and put that one in the timeline made the render go a lot faster.
I understand that a large picture takes a bit more time to be rendered, but we're talking about a 10minute render whit the large jpeg file and a 2 minute render with the jpeg resized.
The total time of the two jpegs in the video is 5 seconds in a 3 minutes video.
So, that made me think that the render times are exponentially long.
In the timeline everything runs really smooth.
Is this considered normal, I can't remember having such big differences in CS5. It's not a major thing, but I wanted to share anyway.

Footage and project on a Raid0 disk

IMac 5K crashes when selecting large jpegs

I have a new iMac 5k, and I've noticed a very troubling issue. It's hard to figure out where it is coming from or what is causing it, so I'm hoping there'll be someone who has been through this before and knows what to do.
I export images from Lightroom or Capture One, simple full size jpegs at 100%, with metadata to my desktop or other folders. If the image is over a certain size, and I click on an individual image, within a second the entire computer has crashed and is restarting. If I select several of the images, everything is fine, it's when I click on one. I don't click to open the image, just select it. I've imported RAW images without issue, selected them, previewed them with no problems at all. Only exported images.
As a test, I've transferred the jpegs that crash the iMac to my laptop (by selecting multiple and moving via airdrop) and open them without any issue, so I don't think it's Lightroom or Capture One. I'm trying to figure out if this is a software or hardware issue. I think it might be a corrupted file somewhere that reads the metadata and previews the image with a thumbnail, but haven't found anything useful googling yet.
Any ideas? I'm happy to provide whatever info/screenshots about the issue to help.

Hello gregoriod11, you're not alone. I have the exact same problem. This problem did not exist before the 10.3 upgrade, so I'm sure that had something to do with it. I first noticed the problem when I double-clicked (to launch to Preview) a large jpeg file from Canon of their new 50 megapixel camera. My iMac 5K suddenly rebooted (aka kernel panic). Other large jpeg files could also cause Preview to unexpectedly quit or instead a kernel panic. I also couldn't select the file from Photoshop's Open menu. Once you clicked the file, boom! I have been in contact with Apple Support since yesterday and again this morning. Here's what I recommend:
First, reinstall OS 10.10.3. This cleared about 80% of the problem. No more kernel panics and Photoshop, Bridge, and Apple's new Photos app all successfully opened several large jpeg file. Only Preview is still gagging on the large jpeg files. Preview either quits suddenly or momentarily displays the image then it goes blank (but doesn't quit).
Apple downloaded a lot of diagnostic data from my computer and is sending it to engineering. I should hear something in 4 or 5 days. The problem seems to be associated with the graphics driver. I suggest you also call Apple (if for any reason just to experience the most awesome technical support in existence). Furthermore, referenced my case number (778797925) and that John Kraus is handling it. This may save you a lot of "try this, try that" time.
I believe the fix for this will be in some future system upgrade, so you may have to live with it for a while.

Why is my Raw file shrinking so much when I save it as a JPEG file?

Why does my file size shrinks from a raw file of over 12MB to a large Jpeg file of less than 6MB. Several weeks ago when I converted the same raw file I was ending up with a JPEG file of over 9MB. What am I doinf wrong? How can I correct this? I am using Elements 9.

Because JPGs are compressed, the JPG file size is not a meaningful indicator of image quality or "doing something wrong". You are advised to ignore it.

PSE 10 will not edit large picture files after it accepts them. After editing it either changes jpeg to psd or greys out the file. What must I do?

Aperture exports jpeg files larger than original RAW files

Can anyone tell me why a RAW file (10.6mb), when exported as a jpeg (10.8mb) from Aperture ends up larger than the original RAW file. The same RAW file when opened and then saved as a jpeg (6.4mb) in Photoshop is a lot smaller. The photo dimensions and resolution are the same in both saved files (34.5mb open file 300dpi 4256 x 2831 pix). I have tried this on several photos, all with similar results. For information I am saving the photos in both Photoshop and Aperture at 300dpi, original size and at a quality setting of 12. In these examples/tests I have done no work to the photos, obviously the file sizes increase after work has been carried out on the photos (in both Ps & Aperture)
Almost doubling the size of saved jpegs has a massive implication on my library and may be one reason to consider Adobe Lightroom as this gives similar jpeg file sizes as Photoshop, i.e. almost half the size of the original RAW file
Reducing the quality setting on saved jpegs is an obvious way to reduce file size, but not answering the question of the considerable discrepancy when saving to the same quality in different software
Is this a feature of Aperture and nothing can be done about it ? I would prefer to use Aperture but cannot cope with the large jpeg sizes !

My jpeg file sizes are much larger than they used to be.

Just recently the file sizes on my .jpeg files have become excessively larger than they used to be just a week or so ago. Where I used to go almost a week to need to archive to DVD a bunch of saved images, I've now got to save to DVD almost daily.
For example, a 300x300 pixel image which shoud be about 32 Kb reads 383 Kb in the finder. I'm not doing anything to these images, just draging and droping.
Where I used to get 7 K files on a DVD, I'm now getting less than 2 K files to each disc.
Any thoughts on what's changed and how to fix it?

What App & JPEG compression rating are you using, some apps can reduce file size by dropping colors for instance...

Cs4 small jpeg file shows as large image size

Hi I am using Photoshop CS4 and I am trying to downsize images shot from my camera to less than 1 mb, by shifting the quality of the jpeg slider to the left in the save as menu.
Once I've done that when I open the newly reduced jpeg file again, and I go to the image Size, it shows as 25 Mb,
This started happening after I reinstalled the Cs4 Creative Suite to my computer.
What can I do, as when I tried to upload the images, ebay said they were too large, ie the file size of the image didnt get reduced at all.
Is it possible to fix this as I have reinstalled the software twice, and I still get the same problem,

I think the problem is not at all Photoshop’s.
When you degrade an image by reducing the jpg quality the number of pixels does not change so the uncompressed image (as indicated for the opened file in Photoshop’s Image Size dialog) naturally has the old size.
What are ebay’s image requirements? Do they mention some maximum width/height in pixels?

Saving large tiff files as jpeg

Hello, experts:
I scanned, as a tiff file, a full-centre spread of a large newpaper. This had to be scanned in eight sections, the pages were so big on my A4 scanner window. When I joined all the sections up in Photoshop CS5, the size of the file was huge (about 21 inches by about 19 inches) It is also digitally large (about 320 MB, since the resolution is 300 dpi). Because I want to keep the composite photo but don't want the file to be so digitally large, yet need the good resolution, I thought it would be a good idea to save it as a jpeg file, which would give me the dimensions I need but not be so digitally bulky as the original. On pressing the drop-down menu for Saving As, the jpeg option did not appear in the dialogue box. Why is this, and how may I save the file in jpeg format? Curt, I'm very appreciative of the help you have given so far. However, I did try to change the image to an 8-bit as you recommended, and, though it is possible to make this change, and thereby reduce the sheer amount of data in the photo, when I click to choose 8-bit, the picture goes all bright and weird. This is because when I click on 8-bit, a window also arises, called HDR toning. In this window are lots of sliders, and, try as I may, it does not seem to be possible to adjust anything to make the picture normal in appearance. If you have any useful comment on what to do to make the picture like it is before the change to 8-bit, I should be glad to hear it. Thanks in anticipation.

When creating a slideshow, for which I use JPG files created in powerpoint, I try to export this to a disk and the result is that the file that I am exporting is extremely large (1.2GB). I am only using 9 (97kb) small jpeg files. How do I rectify this

I have created 9 jpeg files out of MS Powerpoint which I exported into a slideshow.
When exporting this slideshow, it wants to ceate a file of 1,2GB whilst the jpeg files are all around 97kb in size.
What could the problem be and how do I sort this out?

When exporting the slidehow out of iPhoto what size are you selecting for import, what size ration is selected in the slideshow's Settings pane, how many slides, what pixel dimensions are they have and what theme are you using?

After syncing a JPEG photo from ITUNES to IPAD, how large is the file on IPAD? does the answer depend on the size of the original JPEG file in ITUNES?

1) Does downsizing the original jpeg photos to be synced with IPAD help reduce the total storage required on IPAD for the photos? What is the relationship between original JPEG file size in ITUNES vs final synced photo file size on IPAD?

The sync process compresses the JPEG files -- the question is how much, so that I can determine a) how many photos 32 gigs will store in sync, and b) can I reduce the memory required by taking smaller jpeg files with my camera

Moved jpeg files to other folder, now iPhoto can't find them

I dragged/dropped some original jpeg files into a new folder to aggregate certain files together, but since they are now in a different folder iPhoto 9 can't find them. The thumbnails in iPhoto still remain, but results in the large black/grey "!" when I try to open them. I'd rather not rebuild the enormity of my entire photo library over this, so is there some other way to re-link thumbnails to files?
iTunes makes this easy with music. When I click on a file name and it can't find the file, it offers to allow me to locate the file myself, and then it re-establishes the link between the iTunes library item and the file. No problem.
How does one go about doing this in iPhoto for, say, a couple of dozen files without having to start over with an ENTIRE rebuild? I know exactly where the files are, and it seems ridiculous that iPhoto isn't equipped to track the whereabouts of an unchanged file that's simply been dragged from one folder to another.

Did you do the moving of the image file in the Finder or do you have a reference library as asked by Larry? In either case moving the files is a recipe for disaster as you've found out. You must either move the files back to their original locations or try to get those photos back into iPhoto as follows:
1 - Find the folder you moved the files into and COPY it to the Desktop.
2 - in iPhoto delete the photos that you're having the problems with as you normally would even though you can't see see them. Also delete all the photos that are in the folder you moved the other files into.
3 - drag the folder on the Desktop into iPhoto to import them as one event. If you get a duplicate warning I'd let it import the duplicate and use Duplicate Annihilator to find them so you can cull out the duplicate you don't want.
Other than that you might have to start over from scratch as follows:
Creating a new library while preserving the Events from the original library.
1 - Move the existing library folder to the desktop
2 - Open the library package like this.
3 - Launch iPhoto and, when asked, select the option to create a new library.
4 - Drag the Originals folder from the iPhoto Library on the desktop into the open iPhoto window.
