Laser Multi-function printer recommendation

I know I'm probably not supposed to be asking for product recommendations here, but am not sure where else to go (if there are other good forums for this kind of thing, please let me know).
Anyone have any recommendations on a good laser multi-function printer? I'm interested in specific models, but am more interested in brands that are actually friendly to Macs in terms of updating software, providing support, etc. My current model is an HP Laserjet 3052, for which there is still no software update to accommodate for Leopard (which was released months ago).
Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.

After long consideration and being fed up with issues with HP printers in he past (especially with limited functionalities with Mac OS), I bought me a Canon MP560 this summer.
I think it's a great value for money, to refill the ink is reasonably priced (o.k., it could always be cheaper), but my most favorite feature is that I can print and scan from anywhere in the house. So far I am very pleased with both the scanning and printing results. Installation and handling of the SW suite is a child's play.
If I had to print more I would actually look into a Laser / LED MFP... perhaps the Brother MFC-9120CN or its wireless brother MFC-9320CW, which costs actually quite a bit more.
Unfortunately, as it seems, Canon has nothing to offer in this class of printers at reasonable prices that are also rated high.
Just my 10 cents.

  • Favorite Color Laser Multi Function Printer

    Hi,
We have four computers all running OS 10.6 connected to Airport Extreme base. Currently using Brother 5440 inkjet connected via Ethernet to the Airport. It scans from all computers, albeit with an occasional restart of the printer. We're looking to replace it (bad printerhead) with a Multi Function Laser device. I've read many reviews, etc complaining about inability to scan over the network or driver problems (HP 1312) for instance. My printer tech person recommends Canon 8350 or HP 1312. Any thoughts on the best Snow Leopard compatible Color Laser MF Printer?

  • Anyone have a diver for samsung Mono Laser Multi-Function Printer SCX-4828FN?

Hi all, does anyone have or know where I can get a new driver for a Samsung SCX-4828FN multifuntion printer?
    thanks.

Hi, thanks you for the help. The issue was that the operating system kept responding that tere was an update but when it went lookig for it it couldn't find it at the source. I have since found a partial fix in that I deleted the original printer and installed a generic printer. It works OK. Thanks again Linc and RRFS for your assistance.

  • My new laser multi-function center from brother won't print coupons on your browser

I just installed my new brother mfc-7360n laser multi-function center. I can print things from my computer and from my email on internet explorer. I was able to print a coupon in my email from barns and noble in my email on internet explorer, but I cannot print coupons on my firefox mozilla email. The firefox browser on my computer does not do that. I need to use my printer on my email coupons and receipts ect. on firefox mozilla or I can't use mozilla firefox. Please help me!

I'm also having communication issues between a MBP with Mavericks (though the problem has existed with older OS's) and the MFC-7420, also via USB. Restarting the computer does always seem to clear up any problems (whatever they are), until after a few print jobs or a scan job, things mysteriously seem to again go haywire. Sometimes restarting the printer is enough. Often not, though. Also, while there is updated firmware available for the printer, I am unable to install it using a Mac (Windows only).
Suggestions are more than welcome. Thanks in advance.

  • Have an Epson workforce 600 worked fine until new router and Lion installed.  Now when I try and scan with the all in one I get a "POWER PC APPLICATIONS ARE NO LONGER SUPPORTED"  and my IMAC does not recognize that the Epson is a multi function printer.

Installed a new router.  Installed Lion. Have an Epson Workforce 600 multi function printer.  Two problems.
    1. I cannot get Lion to recognize that the Epson is a multi function printer.  There is no scan option on the "print/Scan" popup window.
    2. When I try and use the epson scan utility I get:  POWER PC APPLICATIONS ARE NOT LONGER SUPPORTED.
I have tried EPSON support with no real luck as they say it is Apple upgrades that are the problem.
Apple support was quite rude..said it was not their problem and that I should call epson.  Told the I did but it made no difference just got the same reply.
Have no idea what to do.....seems I cannot find out which multi-function printers Lion supports.

Not to give you another run around, but you need new printer drivers from Epson for your printer so it works in Lion.
Now it could be that they are working on it, or that they could have decided not to provide new drivers in order for you to force upgrade.
The only thing a user can do is decide very carefully BEFORE upgrading to a newer Apple operating system, make sure that all their current hardware and software works and make a decision for themselves.
Since you upgraded to Lion, you can go back to Snow Leopard and your PPC software will work.
    Do you need instructions?

  • Faxing from Mountain Lion with a multi-function printer

I recently upgraded to Mountain Lion from Lion. Of course, my Apple external modem hasn't worked since the initial upgrade.
I hadn't done too much about this, but it really is awfully convenient to fax from my computer, vs. printing something out and putting it in the fax machine. (I have a stand-alone one.)
I DO have a Canon multi-function printer (the MX870). When I set it up (which was a nigthmare) I didn't setup the fax portion because I HAVE a fax.
But now ... well, I'm tired of not being able to fax from my computer. So I know I SHOULD be able to, but I haven't been able to get it to work. I connected the phone line (it's on a splitter with the other portion going to our comcast cable modem.) But it's not visible via the "add print or scanner" preference. The manual is less than clear.
Do I need to add some Canon software? I'm not at home now, but I'm thinking I'll try that next.
Any help wold be much appreciated. I know I could buy a new external modem, but as I'm about to purchase a new Retina MacBook pro, I'd just as soon not!
(P.S. Perhaps this goes in networking.)

Yes absolutely.  I set it up last Fall and have been using it until last week, at whick time I lost wireless connectivity with router for no reason at all.  I can not remember how to do it now and I am looking for the answer myself.
This link to an online chat on www.hp.com with a tech might help you.

I unfortunately upgraded my browser to IE8 last week and the chat support online does not support that browser.  If you get an answer, I would appreciate it if you would post the answer on this thread so that I can re-learn it myself.  Thanks.  Good Luck.

  • Is an OCR app included with the purchase of a Canon MF216n multi-function printer?

Just purchased this multi-function printer and the documentation seems to imply that I need to acquire an external OCR app.  Please confirm and / or clarify.  Or do I need to download an app from the web like Free OCR to Word?
By the way, so far the MF216n seems like an excellent printer, etc..  It is amazingly fast in printing out the stuff from the web; very little latency between pushing the print button and when the page becoming available.

    Hi HandletheTruth.
I will be able to assist you.
The MF Toolbox 4.9 software supports scanning in the document using OCR processing; however, you will need a separate OCR software that will allow you to edit the software.
I hope this information is helpful to you.  Should you need further assistance, please contact us at 1-800-OK-CANON (1-800-652-2666).

  • Multi-function printer compatibility

I have read in a few places that a multi-function printer (print, scan, fax, copy) will not work with all of the computers on the network plugged in to the USB port of the time capsule
to anyone that has the time capsule, is this true?
will all computers on the network be able to print?
because it is not too crucial for me to be able to scan to and fax from other computers on the network, will the scan and fax functions be usable on at least one of the computers?

TC (and airport extreme) peripheral support falls into universal (ethernet) and special (usb).
Anything that can be connected to the ethernet port will be translated through the wireless system and work just well (or not well) as it would if connected via ethernet. Devices plugged into the USB port (directly or through a hub) require special support by Apple. Apple writes drivers for these and adds a tab to the airport utility software. This used to be just printers. Currently, this is limited to printers and hard drives. MFCs go beyond the simple printing function Apple is trying to support via USB.
In my case, I have a Brother 7820n MFC. Its designed to operate over ethernet. Plugged into the TC, this means printing, scanning, and faxing (right out the phone jack) wirelessly - from every computer in the house.
Does your MFC offer an ethernet upgrade?

  • I have a mac 27 inch computer and i want to know what would  be the best multi function printer to buy

i have a mac 27 inch computer and i woul like to know which multi function printer would be the most compatible with my mas osx 10.68 computer

Well, I am attending Academy of Art University in San Francisco, CA. I am an online student receiving my BFA. Afew months ago I received my Associates degree in Internet Specialist/Web Design at another college where I live. I just started at AAU so the only classes I've had so far are Illustrator and a design theory class. Well, the Illustrator class we've created many different things, from 3D characters(which is the assignment he had to cancel cause none of us had atleast 8GB of RAM), we've used live paint, messed with different brushes and symbols and vectors and all. We haven't gotten into the "Web Design" portion yet in this college. But from my other degree, I had to take C+, Photoshop, Flash, Dreamweaver, PHP, HTML, XHTML, CSS, we worked with Linux, Notepad++, and many other things. I absolutely love my Web Design career I have chosen and it's even better since I started at AAU.
As far as the books, I haven't really used my books in these classes because he puts up video tutorials and lessons for all of us to download and watch.

  • 10.6.7 upgrade messes up my Canon MX700 multi-function print connection

I have a Canon MX700 multi-function printer connected to my Mac Pro.  I have printer sharing on and enabled in the firewall and sharing preferences.  I have an iMac that connects to this printer through the Mac Pro.  It has worked fine for years like this.
I upgraded to the latest 10.6.7 software, and that also came with new Canon printer drivers a few days ago.  Now I have printer issues.
Whenever I print from either machine, a warning box appears on the Mac Pro for 5 seconds:
Do you want the application "canonijnetwork.bundle" to accept incoming network connections?
Clicking Deny may limit the application's behavior.  This setting can be changed in the Firewall pane of Security preferences>
    ( Deny )  ( Allow )
If I can click on the Allow button in those 5 seconds, then the job prints.  Otherwise, the print queue is paused -- some of the time.
If I open the print queue and pause, then resume the printer, I get the warning box again, with another chance to Allow.
This happens every time.  I went to the firewall and sharing and printer preferences and made sure that everything was allowed, but to no avail.
I power cycled the machines and printers, but no change.
I am thinking that this is a bug in the new security upgrade, or the new drivers.
Can someone else verify that this is happening to others?
Any suggestions on how to get permissions to stick?

Thanks for the reply.  I just tried that, but the problem did not go away.  I did notice that in the print queue status window, when I am printing from the same machine, says "A communication error has occurred." if I do not click the Allow button in time.
I just tried turning my firewall off, and everything went back to normal.  The canonijnetwork.bundle is listed as accepting connections.  Printer sharing is also listed as accepting connections.
So, I turn the firewall back on again, and the problem starts up again -- even though it says that all are still accepting network connections.

  • Install Enterprise WSD Multi-Function Printer does not work for Win10

Hallo, I installed Win10 three days ago and I am repeatedly getting the same error message.  Can you help? Hewlett-Packard - Enterprise WSD Multi-Function Printer, Multi-Function Printer, Other hardware - Null Print - HP ENVY 7640 series  thanks!

There is the pxlmono package, which has a pxlcolor driver that will allow printing in colour, and possibly two sided printing and stapling. But I doubt that you will have hole punch with this driver. Also, the Linux Foundation that provides this driver set was recently hacked and the web site is not back online yet.
I would echo PAHUs conclusion about the driver you need.  I would also add that the pxlmono/pxlcolor drivers for all Ricoh family of printers (Lanier is a member of the Ricoh family of printers) are actually provided by Ricoh.  They would have all the functionality that your printer supports.  It therefore would support two sided printing if you have a duplexer on the printer.  The driver would also support any hole punching or stapling if your printer is so equipped.
Also, as PAHU mentions, the OpenPrinting.org site is down right now.  I have all the packages you would need.  The big problem is that the Ghostscript package is about 35 MB in size.  I don't have enough server space to host it.  If you must get the printer working right now, please e-mail me at walterwego at macosx dot com.  I could try to send you the file using an outside file transfer site.
EDIT:  I just checked the PPDs included in the latest pxlmono package.  The Lanier LD655C is not included in the package.  I don't know which, if any, of the included drivers you could substitute.  It looks like you will have to use the B&W Generic PCL driver until the OpenPrinting site is back up and a Ricoh tech is available to help with suitable model substitution.

  • Canon PIXMA MX892 multi-function printer set up . What is a WEP key?

Trying to set up my new PIXMA MX892 multi-function printer and need to enter a WEP key.  What is that and where can I find it?

    Hello Vermont-Ken.
The WEP key would be the encryption key that is being used by your router.  Please check the documentation for your router to find out more about the current key for the router.

  • Best Multi-Function Printer Software Compatible with OSX

About five years ago, I surveyed Multi-Function Color Laser/Scanners/Fax, etc.  I ended up with a Brother MFC9840CDW that I loved.  I had tried HP but their software was not as good, and too many features were disabled in OSX.  Brother supported almost everything and was reasonbly reliable.  While the scanning functions remains great, my old reliable Brother is getting a bit long in the tooth in terms of print quality and speed.  I am thinking of upgrading.
I would to love to find if anyone has experience with Multi-Function machines, particularly in terms of their software, for OSX.  I just picked up an HP LaserJet Pro 400 M401dw B&W, so not to put too much of a load on my color machine, and frankly, it is boss.  But it is not Multi-Function.  Can those who have experience chime in with who they think has great Multi-Function software for OSX, and even better if they have experience across different vendors to (briefly) compare.  It would be much appreciated.  Much of my focus is on flexibility and ease of scanning.

I second your inquiry. My Brother MFC7820N just died after 5 years. Was a great monochrome laser printer, scanner, and fax machine. The software always worked. I wonder how the MFC software of Canon or Epson compares?

  • Fax via Network Multi-Function Printer

I own a HP Multi-Function device to print, scan, fax, etc. My home network is set up to PRINT wirelessly from my computer to my printer, but for some reason I am unable to FAX wirelessly. As of now I must first print the document then fax it manually, when I'd much rather skip the middle steps of printing and just fax it directly using my network. The only way I can send a fax from my computer is bypass my wireless network and plug directly into the HP printer via USB. I think if I can print wirelessly why can't I fax wirelessly too? Any suggestions?

  • Multi function printer/scanner

I need to buy a printer with scanner functions and other features, I would like something not expensive, just for home use but a model which is fully working with Snow Leopard. A good brand for Mac
    Thanks for suggestions

Epson does make capable printers, and I have owned an Epson multi-function in the past. In my experience, the Epson printers are noisier and often require a nozzle-cleaning operation that wastes ink. My current Canon multi-function is almost silent and has never required any maintenance operation to achieve perfect prints. It also has two paper trays for additional convenience and does duplex printing. Mine is the MP600, no doubt obsolete. Ink cost is also a bit less for the Canon models that use the common CLI-8 4-color + pigment black ink cartridges. Of course, this is just my experience.
