LaserJet 1018 shared on Printer server doesn't print

Hi, I'm a multi HP owner (notebook, desktop a Photosmart printer and the LaserJet 1018)... I recently bought a Iomega NAS with the printer server service and I tried to share both of my HP printers on it. The PhotoSmart 7260 works perfectly, but the LaserJet 1018 does not: it says that it have a job pending but the print doesn't start. I've passed the same nightmare when I've tried to share the printer on the Desktop PC with Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit: job pending but no printing unless I restart the PC... on startup the print stated. I've found the way to share it with Ubuntu Server 9.10 by installing HP linux driver. Now, having this nice NAS I would like to use it as my printer server (energy saving reasons).
I've read a lot of people with the same problem but havn't find the solution. Somebody even says that the 1018 is a low budget printer and is not enabled for sharing, but it sounds bull**bleep** to me (it prints under linux). Somebody knows if and how to solve this problem? My clients are both Win7 x64 (I have to test my Ubuntu 10.10 desktop)... should I install 32bit version drivers? ore something like that? Or should I buy a new printer (!HP)???
Thanks
Alessandro

If the printer is not postscript, and you are using 'generic' then the printer is likely not understanding what is being sent to it, so it is dumping the job.
HP printers default to HPs own page desription language called PCL (Printer Control Language).
If you did not install all the 'additional printers' when you installed your OS, might want to do so.
If not, check HPs site for Mac drivers, or check out GIMP & GhostScript from SourceForge.net to see if they support that particular printer

Hi quack thanks for your answer , unfortunately everything is correct and turned on... when I unplugged the ethernet cable just before the last step of the wizard and it is on the screen of "Now your wireless is connected" a little box appeares saying "connect fail"... But if I leave the ethernet cable plugged, the process goes "perfect", because I can print, but the server must be connected to the router wirely...
I'm starting to think if it is because the WPA key of my router, I use a WPA2:AES+TKIP,and I'm not pretty shure if the server is compatible.
Thanks for your commment!!! I wish that exist a solution!!

  • Print server doesn't grap ip or show on dhcp clienttable

I have a dlink dp-101p print server attached to my printer. Ethernet cable out of the back of the print server is attached to my wrt160n router. For some reason the print server doesn't grab an ip or show up under the dhcp client table.
This connection worked with my previous router.
    Help please!

It could be possible that your Print Server is not compatible with the router...However, when you reset your Print Server for 5 secs you should get a test page...If not you can conclude the Print Server and the router are not compatible...

  • WRT350N Print Server? Samba Printer Port

Issue: I have a hard drive attached and shared out on my WRT350N -- works great.. When i browse the share device from a Vista or XP machine i see a directory (shares) called Config and one called Printers and Faxes -- neither of these two i created during the setup of the router.. So -- i double click upon the Printer and Faxes share and it opens up to a blank page -- right clicking gives me the option to add printer and to view server properties.. the properties show a print server with Samba Printer Port.. plus a ADD PRINTER option.. well i get all excited about sharing my network printer on this thing.. only to add printer and get a error about not enough access rights.. nothing i do will grant me access to add a printer.. is this even possible? Is this a flaw in the product? Or a Windows mishap?

I did get the direct IP pringing to work, and the Samba, but it has to have the username/password in the string:
    smb://userName:password@workgroup/computer/printer

  • HP Laserjet 1018, Word 2007 on Windows XP - Duplex printing alignment

HP Laserjet 1018, Word 2007 on Windows XP
Want to Print a book on both sides of A4 paper. I am printing one page per
    page (not the book mode).
If I print single sided, the top of the page (e.g. header text) on odd and
even pages are aligned. When I print duplex mode, odd pages print fine but
the even pages are shifted down. Thus the header text are not aligned.
I think this is more a problem with the way the printer is managing duplex
printing. While printing in duplex mode, the printer first prints in reverse (with bottom of
the page as ref) to enable placement of the output sheets back into the input
tray without rotation. Is this messing up the alignment?

    Hi there,
Try downloading and running the print and scan doctor located here:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c03275041&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en
It can fix a lot on its own and if not give a better idea of what is going on.
    Best of Luck!

  • Printing with SMC4007ABR Print Server to PostScript Printer

I've just set up my Mac Mini in a new network configuration, with an old SMC4007ABR router/print server printing to my Ricoh Laser AP2100 printer, using IPP printing and the configuration for a Generic PostScript printer, which had worked for this printer in previous setups. I am using the IP address of the router, 192.168.2.1, and the queue name specified in the documentation "lpt1". When I log into the router to view the status page it says the printer is idle and ready. When I submit a print job, I get the message "Network host '192.168.2.1' is busy; will retry in 30 seconds...".
I have tried deleting the printer queue and recreating it, using the queue name with upper case, using the queue name specified for use with Windoze ("LP"), changing the router configuration from DHCP to manual IP assignments and back again, resetting the print system from the Printer Setup Utility, using the CUPS interface at http://localhost:631/ to modify the printer setup in any sane way I could think of. I have looked at anything I could find in this forum that seemed relevant, but haven't found anything to try which I haven't tried. I have tried the SMC technical support system, but the router is no longer supported by them, but by another firm which charges per incident, and doesn't support Macintosh.
I would appreciate any suggestions from people who know idiosyncracies of this router, or who have fruitful insights into this strange behavior. Clearly my Mini sees the printer queue, but not well enough to be able to transmit data to it. Thanks for any insights you can offer.

Thanks very much for your response. It seems I was ignoring the answer in some of the posts I was looking at, having misjudged that they were applying to a different sort of situation. I can't even remember what set of instructions from years ago established such a strong prejudice that I needed the IPP protocol. In any case, I'm grateful for your help.

  • Notebook using Vista and wireless print server and HP5500 printer problem

Installed std vista local driver for hp5550 printer with usb cable direct to printer.  Works ok
Then, disconnected usb copper line to HP labtop and connected it into print server in router (D-link router to HP5500 printer).
Installed wireless network driver in labtop (vista os)(no updated hp driver available for Vista on HP site).
Print jobs just stack up in the que.
Used 192.168.0.1 address (which works fine for my other old win 98 computer).
Driver using the "raw" setting not "LPT"
    Print Sharing is enabled.
    Any suggestions?
p.s.  The wirless system works fine on an old windows 98SE computer using the original 5550 installation disk.

Went back and installed the "Windows 2000 Print Server Software (from D-link Router 824vpn).  I assume that this included the USP Shareport program that was recommend in a thread.  I can now access router wirelessly.  However, wireless print jobs go into que for hp5550, que emptys, but printer does not start up.  Copper usb from printer to computer works fine (as separate printer)sta.  Using HPdeskjet 5550 (HPA ) printer, port 192.168.0.1, printer name/ip 192.168.0.1, protocal 9100, raw setting, port 9100, LPR and SNMP are both blank. Any suggestions (OS is Vista).  No drivers from Dlink or HP for this application.  Thanks

  • Deskjet F 4480 and a print server for network printing

I have a HP Pavilion (win 7) and an Acer netbook ( Win XPsp3) wirelessly networked with the HP Paviion  as the host for the Deskjet multifunction printer. I would like to set up a print server  to alleviate some problems we are having with the Acer accessing the printer. Uaually all is ok, but  It seems that whenever that netbook is put into sleep mode, I have to reboot it, shut down the printer (even to the point of disconnecting the USB and power cords, and then re hooking up all the cables)  to get ithe netbook to print. so, I am looking at installing a print server to get around this annoyance.
I am using a DLink WB-1310 router, BTW.
Any suggestions on a capable print server? Not to mention any other suggestions, which i certainly would appreciate.
    Thank you, all.

HP-provided drivers don't support network printing. You'll need to install Foomatic (a PPD interpreter), ESP ghostscript (postscript translator) and the 712c PPD from:
    http://www.linuxprinting.org/macosx/foomatic/
    http://www.linuxprinting.org/showprinter.cgi?recnum=HP-DeskJet712C
Then, since we don't have the auto-setup software for OS X, you need to review the print server manual and find out which IP printing protocol to use. The easiest is HP Jetdirect (called TCP/IP raw port printing in many manuals) if it's available, because it doesn't require the device queue name.
    Good luck.

The problem is not with your printer but with CUPS.  I had the same problem with an upgrade that was done.  It worked before but did not work after the upgrade in CUPS.  I guess others are having problems as well as you can see in the link posted.

  • I followed all of HP's Apple AirPrint troubleshooting instructions. Printer still doesn't print.

Using an HP Photosmart Plus B210a printer, I attempted to print both photos and emails from my Apple iPhone 4 via WIFI interface.  My router is a Motorola SURFBoard SBG6580.  All connections have been tested and verified active.  The printer is shown on my iPhone as active, and messages following my directive to print indicate "contacting", "preparing", and "printing 1 of 2", etc.  Then nothing.  No print.  I followed the HP's troubleshooting instructions for "Apple AirPrint:  The Apple Mobile Device Shows a Job is Printing but the Printer Does Not Print", without success.  I am able to successfully print from my HP Pavilion Entertainment  PC with Windows 7 using the same WIFI interface without problems.
The Motorola router is a recent addition to my system.  HP's prompt following my unsuccessful resolution of this problem was to post a message to see if anyone else has dealt with this problem.  Thanks for your input.

One additional step that you could try doing is to do a hard reset on the iPhone. Make sure if you have anything open that has not been saved you save those items first.
Press and hold the power and the home button together for 15 seconds. You may see slide to power off come on the screen but ignore that and continue holding the buttons until the device turns off. Depending on the exact model the device may automatically turn back on when you let go and show the apple logo, or you may have to manually turn it back on with the power button.
After the device loads back up attempt to print again.

  • I have an HP 1400 all in one color printer that doesn't print

Suddenly this printer takes forever to print the "test" page and will not print from the computer. Yes, it is properly "hooked" up. I really like this printer and would hate to think that HP has become a throw away company. What can I do to diagnose this problem? It uses cartridges 21 b and 22 color.

    Hi,
You could try this link that gives information about print jobs not printing:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c02205477&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&lang=en&product=441...
If you expand on the relevant operating system it should guide you through using the print diagnostic utility.
You also mentioned that the printer is taking a long time to print a test page so this link may be useful:

  • Laserjet 1018, sharing printer

I have my printer connected to a new computer, Windows 7, using wireless network.  I did a test print and works fine from this computer.
I unhooked the printer from my old computer, Windows XP, but I can't get the printer to work from there.
I understand from searching that there are different drivers to install on my new computer.  I am following instructions and am up to this point:
"Once the administrator clicks the OK button, a print driver window will pop-up asking for the 32-bit driver components. Again, the administrator will need to download, and extract the 32-bit version of the print driver on the 64-bit server. Once the window below comes up, the administrator will need to navigate to the 32-bit driver components and select the appropriate driver .inf file.
For example, the UPD .inf file would be the first file in the list and be named hpcuXXXc.in"
I can't figure out what I am supposed to type in for the appropriate driver .inf file.
    Thanks for any assistance!

When you select 'Internet Sharing' (System Preferences-Sharing) it automatically configures 192.168.2/24 DHCP network.

Clients are appearing in the client list.  IP addresses seem to be assigned ok looking directly on each device.

How can you jig about with NAT at command line?
    OR
How can you tell if NAT is working otherwise?

  • IPad recognizes my hp wireless printer but doesn't print.  Why?

iPad recognizes my HP wireless printer but still nothing happens when I press print.  Why?

If your using the option at the top next to the address bar to print, that the box with the arrow, that only looks for airPrint printers. That will not work on your printer.
They do however have apps that allow you to print to your printer, you just need to get one from the app store (read the reviews before downloading the app).
I use the app "print n share" but I can't recommend that one or say its good or bad, it works for whati need it for that's all. You would need one that does what you need and works for you, that's why I say to read the reviews.
