Laserjet 1200 and Win 7 - small sheet orientation problem

I am unable to get my HP Laserjet 1200 printer to work correctly with Windows 7 when printing a document narrower than 8.5x11.  The problem is that a 4x6 sheet is fed through the center of the printer but win7 wants to print as if the 4x6 sheet were fed through the left side of the printer.  Any suggestions are welcomed.  Thank you.

I recently upgraded to Windows 7, and now I am having trouble with my printer.  When I print "labels", the ink is faded for the first few, and then towards the end of the page it seems fine.
I looked for drivers to download for windows 7, but don't see them.
It's almost like a memory problem? Like it doesn't get all the graphics sent to the printer until halfway down the page.
I use this for my small business to make labels for my products.  Does anyone know how to help?  I tried to call HP, but they are closed, it told me to do the online chat, but that said it didn't recognize my printer.  HELP!
Thanks
Carol
The Windows 7 drivers are located here at the web support page for your product..

  • HP Laserjet 1200 and Driver Updates

On the "Download Drivers and Software" support page for the HP Laserjet 1200 printer, there is an option, "Automatically check to see if your driver needs updating".
A machine that I am supporting is having a MS Word collating issue (sometimes works, sometimes doesn't) and I don't know if its a driver issue or not.  The machine is XP SP3.
If I click on this link, obviously it will check the drivers, but:
    1) Will it give me the option to automatically update the drivers if it finds they are outdated, and
    2) How do I roll back to the old driver if the update introduces problems?
Since this potential driver update isn't going through the normal MS XP driver update routine in Device Manager, I'm leery that I won't be able to recover if something goes wrong.

I am sorry, but to get your issue more exposure I would suggest posting it in the commercial forums since this is a commercial printer. You can do this at http://h30499.www3.hp.com/hpeb/
    I hope this helps.

  • HP Laserjet 1200 and HP PSC 1200 - Laserjet not printing

    Hello,
my laserjet 1200 is not printing, stating: "Generic class - waiting for the device".
The reason seems to be the installer of the HP PSC 1200, which put some files on my harddisk the laserjet doesn't like.
There is a process called "HP Communication..." viewable in the process viewer. Whenever I manually quit this process, the LaserJet prints.
But as soon as I restart the computer, the process (and the problem) reoccures. Is there a way I can "kill" this process permanently?
    mac mini G4 1.5   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

I have 3 users who's HP LaserJet 1200's have stopped working. This was after we got an HP Color LaserJet 2820.
I killed the HP Communications process like mentioned above and then voila the LaserJet 1200 started to print again.
It looks like you want to edit this file
    /Library/Preferences/loginwindow.plist
    and remove this line
    <string>/Library/Printers/hp/HP Communications.app/HP Communications</string>
    Thanks for the help

  • HP LaserJet 1200: Prints; creates EXTRA sheet with Offending Command: D

After every printing job is completed *an extra page is printed* with the following:
    ERROR: undefined
    OFFENDING COMMAND: D
    STACK:
How can I stop this *unnecessary waste of paper* every time I print something?
    Please help!

What does work is the following:
Set your printer to NOT use Appletalk (through your browser).
Delete your printer and install it again. If you don't see it in the list select IP printer and use the printer's IP address
Make sure you use a HP driver and not the Generic driver. I used a Gutenprint driver with success on a LaserJet 1200 with a JetDirect network adapter.

  • LASERJET 5000 AND WIN 8 64-BIT

Hi...I have come upon TWO Laserjet 5000s in working condition. I seem to be having driver issues involving Win 8 64-bit. I downloaded the UPD that's supposedly for Windows 8 64-bit and installed it. The PS version does not list a 1200 DPI option. The 5000 is connected to my computer via ethernet into the JetDirect card. My computer is acting as the gateway with IP address x.x.x.39 and the printer is at x.x.x.40.  I configured it manually for that address/gateway and it took.  It prints a test page fine from the "printers and devices" screen in Windows 8 64-bit. I am also having trouble because I have put legal paper in tray 2 or 3, but a setting in the driver makes the printer constantly ask me to put plain LETTER size paper in tray 1. Yes, I configured trays 2 and 3 properly for legal and the word document is in legal size. I can see a 1200 dpi option if I install the PCL6 driver from Windows update, but that setting in the driver keeps saying "fit on letter size paper" And the 5000 PCL 6 driver I used from Windows Update never seems to install properly. I keep seeing that "The driver is not installed and some properties will be unavailable" but I can print a test lage I have yet to find a duplexer, though! ;-( What am I doing wrong here?? I bought these printers to do duplex printing at 1200 dpi for music. Any advice more than welcome!! Thanks.Jim Williams

Right--but there is a setting in the "EFFECTS" area of the PCL 6 driver that resets itself automatically to "print on letter," regardless of paper size. Nothing I do on the PCL 6 driver (from Windows Update) will prevent that setting from resetting itself. Here's what I want to do for now using Windows 8 : 1.  Print at 1200 dpi out of PS or PCL 6--UPD does not seem to allow for1200 DPI out of Windows 8 as far as I can tell. Windows PCL 6 driver allows for 1200 DPI but has a host of other issues. 2. Figure out how to get rid of that automatic reset to "print on letter" I described above on the PCL 6 driver. 3. Figure out whether I will be wasting money on buying a duplexer for use with these Windows 8 drivers. I can't test, since nobody I know has a duplexer I can borrow. 4. Find a method to install the PCL 6 driver so Windows 8 quits telling me "it isn't installed so you won't have all the properties available." I'd like to have the driver install, and I'd like all properties to be available.

  • HP P1006 LaserJet printer and G4 Tiger computer - printing problems

Help. I bought a new HP P1006 LaserJet printer for a friend that has a G4 Computer that is running Tiger (10.4.11). I set everything up. I tried to print "one" page, to make sure all was well. Well...all was NOT well. It took nearly 4-5 minutes to print the page with just lines of text from a Word document. Does anyone know what could be wrong. I selected to print one page, then hit the print button. Then the computer started "thinking" and making all kinds of "thinking noises". Eventually it printed the page, but it too FOREVER.
I have three HP LaserJet printers. Two are working off another G4 running Tiger, and the other is working off a G5 and a Mac Mini Intel. When I print, it prints within seconds.
    Please help me.

  • HP OfficeJet gx85i and HP Laserjet 1200

I have a friend of mine who just bought a mac mini to be a file/print/backup server for his home network.
He has three printers plugged into the mini, an hp officejet gx85i, and hp laserjet 1200, and an hp photosmart printer.
Both the laserjet and the photosmart function fine without any additional software on the mini.
But, when I installed the gx85i software, the 1200 works sometimes -- meaning I have to unplug the 1200, remove it's configuration from the "print and fax" preference pane and plug the USB printer back in to get the printer to work again.
Anyone have similar problems or ideas for a fix?
    Thanks,
    Kenny

and it may be the g85xi.
    i'm not near it atm.

  • Delay in prting HP laserjet 1200

JUst recently upgraded computer from windows XP. The new machine has windwos 7 64 bit. Trying to use my HP Laserjet 1200, and there is a long delay in printing anything.  This dealy is anywhere from 30 seconds to a minute. I can watch the little green light on the front of the printer blinking while I wait, it quits blinking & a second later the page prints. This is for evey page, if it is several copies of the same docuamnet I needed or multiple page document. When I print a 30 page document having this 1 minute delay between each page is rather frustrating. Of course once it does actually print then everything works great like it always has. I have tried using the Universal print dirver found on HP website as well as the one included in windows 7 both work the same. Any other suggestions?

Look for any pcl5 or postscript driver for any hp laserjet printer and try using it.  Most likely you are using the pcl6 driver which has a lot of overhead.  Also you may want to check the settings and see if you can reduce the dpi to 300.

  • HP LaserJet 1200 series BW USB problem

I am unable to re install my HP BW LaserJet 1200 series printer. My system is WIN XP PRO, SP3.
The printer was working fine, then something happened and the printer is not listed in Device manager. The printer self check works OK,, but when I plug in the USB cable, there is no screen respons that a new USB device has been found.
Note , I have 2 flash drives attached to the USB ports that work OK.
I tried to re install the 1200 series driver, but the printer is not  listed in Device manager.
Any suggestions troubleshooting tips would be appreciated.
    Thanks,

I've often had this problem when I start a print but the 1200 is not connected, or for other reasons. I either:
    1. Turn the HP 1200 off then on; or
    2. Go to Print centre and delete the job.
One of these always fixes the problem.

can anyone provide me ? no links to read text, direct solution is welcomed

    Hi.
You may download the Universal Print Driver PCL5 below, it is compatible with both Windows 7 or 8 64-bit.
For USB select Plug n Play, for network select Tradiotional Mode and follow the steps by setting a TCP/IP Port with the IP Address of the printer:

  • HP LaserJet 1200 printing problems

Ever since I upgraded to Tiger, my formerly trusty HP LaserJet 1200 takes up to 10-20 minutes to print a single PDF page (even a simple one), and 2) can't keep track of documents in the queue (if I send a second document while the first is printing, the first one cuts out without finishing).
I understand HP bundled the latest driver into Tiger, so no updated driver is available from HP. Although I installed the GimpPrint drivers, there appears to be no Gimp driver for the LaserJet 1200. Any suggestions greatly appreciated.
    G5 Mac OS X (10.4.5)

Update: I realised that my printer was attached to a USB hub. It's been that way since I bought it and has always used like that. Anyway, on the off-chance (and bearing in mind that I had actually shut down my computer for the first time in a year or so last week), I instead connected the printer directly to one of the USB ports of my iMac. It immediately appeared in the Print Utility list!
Sounds peculiar, but it seems that the problems was linked to a combination of a Tiger upgrade, the use of a USB hub, and the full shut down of the computer.
    Hope this helps someone.

  • HP LaserJet 1200 Goes "Offline" and won't Print

I upgraded to Leopard 10.5, then 10.5.1 and my HP LaserJet 1200 will print until my G5 has slept, then the print queue says the printer is offline. I restart and it works again until the next sleep cycle. Anyone know a fix for this?

I think I found the problem. Leopard doesn't like my USB 2.0 PCI card. I had the same problem a while ago with an earlier version of OSX. It was resolved with an OS update. I wish I understood the value of having PCI slots on my G5, when even such a simple device as my USB card is rendered useless by a new operating system.

  • LaserJet 1200 driver problem

HP Laserjet 1200 printer with Windows 7...   The problem is that a 4x6 sheet is fed through the center of the printer but win7 wants to print as if the 4x6 sheet were fed through the left side of the printer.  Any suggestions are welcomed.  Thank you.

It's almost certainly a driver probelm, particualrly if it happens in other programs too. Do you have a win7 driver?

  • Upgrading to Windows 8.1 and Laserjet 1200 becomes an unknown device

Here at work we still have some "old" printers working locally on some laptops.
Recently we performed an upgrade of all our 8.0 devices to 8.1.
After the upgrade none of the HP Laserjet 1200 printers is functioning.
In the device and printers pane the printer is marked as unkonw, drivers can't be found while using te troubleshooter.
When i search on the hp website, it is suggested to use HP Universal Drivers PCL6 or PS6. I downloaded them both, installed each one after the other followed up with a test. None of the drivers worked. When the installer suggests to connect the printer through USB (normaly it would open a plug&play wizard) nothing happens.
I removed the installations and followed the instruction of someone who claimed to have a working Laserjet1200 on a Win8.1 installation. He suggested to install te DOT4 drivers first, I took the driver from this (http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/swd/public/detail?swItemId=fp_109468_2&swEnvOid=4158) page. On that page it's said that the installation is compatible with an 8.1 installation, but when i try to run the .msi a pop-up warns me that it's only win8.0 supported.
So is there anyone who has a working Laserjet 1200 printer through USB on a Windows 8.1 installation?
And how did you realise that?
    Thanks in advance,
    M.

    Hi m0n0cl3,
I looked for the driver for your printer with Windows 8.1 using a USB connection and found this:
    http://h20565.www2.hp.com/hpsc/swd/public/readIndex?sp4ts.oid=58928&swLangOid=8&swEnvOid=4158
It looks like Windows 8.1 should be compatible with your printer. Let me know if this solves your problem.
