Laserjet 2200 tray 3 autoselect

hi!
i have a laserjet 2200 dtn monster here since some time.
problem:
if tray2 is empty, and tray3 full:
xp/vista: prints fine! autoselects tray3 and goes on
os 10.4: warning light starts blinking, and i have to press the button on the printer to start printing from tray3.
really annoying! what should i have a tray3 for, if i have to go to the printer anyway.
i found the ppd file. do i have to modify any settings in there? i just want tray2 and tray3 to be A4 paper and my mac should automatically select tray2, and if its empty, go over to tray3... like on windows...
tnx!

If all else fails, look to the manual. I downloaded the manual for the printer from the HP site. In Chapter 2 (page 58) it states:
"Settings in the printer driver and software application override printer settings made in the configuration utility. (Software application settings override printer driver settings.)"
It also talks about Tray Lock feature that is enabled on the printer through the LaserJet Utility.
"Tray Lock is a feature that allows you to “lock” a tray so that the only time the printer will draw from that tray is when it is specifically requested, or if a tray override was requested and all unlocked trays are empty. This is useful when you want to put special paper in a tray, such as letterhead. For example, if you are using “First Available Tray,” for the paper source and you lock Tray 1, the printer will only draw from the remaining trays, either Tray 2 or optional Tray 3, if it is installed. You can still print from the locked tray, but you must specify the source."
Could it be possible that the tray lock feature is not set correctly on the printer and that Windows computer/software is overriding the printer's settings and accidently doing what you want?
This appears to be a printer setting and not something missing from the Mac OS X driver or PPD.

  • How to print on HP LaserJet 2200 over Ethernet?

    Hi,
I did an upgrade to Snow Leopard and would like to print on a HP LaserJet 2200 over Ethernet. OS X and the HP printer drivers are up to date now.
The printer has been cold reset and on the configuration print out there's the IP address 0.0.0.0
Now my question is how to get this printer to work with Snow Leopard over Ethernet? I did not find a tutorial how to assign an IP address to the printer first so I got stuck.
Could you give me a hint where I should start with the configuration first?

    OK, now the printer works
I reset the router and checked if DHPC is running.
I reset the printer (hold down the GO button, turn the printer on and continue to hold the GO button for five to ten seconds).
Checked at router that the printer is visible as network device.
At the router I assigned a fixed IP address to the printer.
At OS X System Preferences > Printer I added a new printer with "HP Jetdirect - Socket", the fixed IP address and the correct printer driver "HP LaserJet 2200".
Now the printer has been recognized well by the system (Tray 3, Duplex and printer RAM) and printing works.
    THANKS.

  • Cannot print with HP Laserjet 2200 on network

I run software update periodically and downloaded the HP driver update when it was offered.
I uninstalled the Laserjet 2200 that worked with 10.5.8 in the print and fax system preferences and reinstalled it. It is recognized and I get the correct image for the printer, but when I try to print it pauses, I resume printing and it thinks a little and pauses again.
I chose the Laserjet 2200 printer driver, but it does the same with a generic printer driver and the offered alternative Gutenprint driver.
Other users on the network running 10.5.8 have no trouble printing to this printer.
    Thank you

Getting it to work with Windows is super-easy. You'll need to install the printer's drivers and Bonjour for Windows ( http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/windows/bonjourforwindows.html ). Install both of those, open Bonjour, select the printer, done.
I have no experience with Linux, sorry.

  • HP Laserjet 2200 and new JetDirect card and DHCP

We had to replace the JetDirect card in an HP laserjet 2200.  As soon as that was done, the DHCP service will not give it an IP address in our network.  It has an APIPA address 169,254.X.Y.  The printer is in a distant branch office and so before I travel to the office I was hoping for hints on why this might have happened (and if anything can be done remotely).  On the laserjet 2200, there is no LcD panel or display to alter settings, so we must use the web interface, which we cannot get to.  Thanks in advance for anyone's thoughts.

It appears this is for a commercial printer.  It would be best to post in the commercial LaserJet forums.

  • I need help printing with HP laserjet 2200 and OS 10.6

  • I can't print to my HP laserjet 2200

After installing Mac OS 10.4.4 Tiger on my Mac G4, Illustrator CS2, version 12.0.1, Adobe Acrobat and InDesign won't allow me to print to my HP LaserJet 2200.The error message says the PPD is wrong. I can use my Epson printer, and the LaserJet works as usual in Word and Mail, and even in Photoshop CS. It was printing fine until OS 10.4.4. It seems to be the Adobe products mentioned that have a problem. The printer uses a USB port, and shows up correctly in the System Profiler and in the Printer Setup Utility. I also repaired permissions. Can anyone tell me how to regain the use of my printer?

success at last! I somehow found PPD drivers for HP laserjet printers on the Adobe website. http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=44&platform=Macintosh
Nowhere on the Adobe website do I see any indication that this PPD needs to be added when upgrading to OS 10.4 Tiger. Nor is it on the Apple site. They really should make an effort as there are pages of Forum postings regarding this problem.
I had to upgrade Stuffit to 10x as well in order to expand the download. Once I did that the old HP2200 printer file had to be deleted from the Setup Utility, and the new printer driver added. After doing all that, my print dialog windows returned to normal and printing was restored. Thanks for your help. It was a nightmare. By the way, I did try the trial version of Fixamc, which didn't work, but cleaned up some files. They were very responsive to my e-mail request for assistance.

  • HP Laserjet 2200 problem solved  v2

I was having problems getting Snow Leopard to recognise my old HP LaserJet 2200 (in my case a 2200DN which I was trying to access through the Ethernet port of a Time Capsule). Tony from London in this post: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=10073041&#10073041 explained how to find the IP address of your LaserJet (for the 2200DN you press Go and Job Cancel buttons simultaneously, and the details are printed out). In my case Tony's solution of using this to connect via the Internet Printing Protocol did not work. Instead I found it did work using the HP Directjet - Socket protocol. The steps are:
    1. Find the IP address of your printer as described above.
    2. Click the + sign to add a printer in the Print & Fax preferences window
    3. Select the IP option (globe symbol) in the toolbar
    4. In the Protocol pull-down, select HP Directjet - Socket
    5. Enter the printer's IP address in the Address box
    6. Select the correct driver in the Print Using pull-down
    7. Click the Add button
    Hope that works for you!

  • LaserJet 2200 and Windows 7 Professional 64-bit - a mutual disagreement society?

In upgrading my XP Professional system to Windows 7, I've got a real problem linking to my LaserJet 2200d printer. The store that did the upgrade mistakenly upgraded to 32-bit Windows 7, but the printer worked fine. In doing the proper upgrade to 64-bit 7 Pro, a problem arose - nothing prints and the data light on the Laserjet 2200 does not even flash. Observables:
    1. I've tried all the 64-bit drivers published from Microsoft via Windows Update and from HP. Nothing works, including the universal printer driver and regressing to the 32-bit driver.
    2. The printer shows as installed, but with a yellow, triangular warning sign, yet there are no details on the problem or suggested fixes.
    3. Windows Troubleshooter doesn't fix the problem.
    4. I thought to uninstall all the drivers and start fresh, but links to HP's driver uninstaller yield a "page no longer available" error message.
I use this printer as my workhorse - sure would appreciate some help. I'm a nontechie, so step-by-step instructions would be very helpful. Thanks!

  • Colour management profile for LaserJet 2200 printer?

I am reasonably familiar with the basics of colour management. My monitor is calibrated, I use Epson's standard colour profiles for my Epson 3800 inkjet printer and what I see on the screen is more or less what I get out of this printer. However, I am having less success in controlling the printing on my HP LaserJet 2200 of monochrome images contained within an InDesign CS4 document.
The obvious answer would appear to be to use a purpose-designed printer profile for the HP LaserJet 2200 but, so far, I have failed to find a source for such a profile. Can anyone help?
    David

When you save a grayscale (if you save in grayscale mode and aren't just saving a completely desaturated or otherwise made to look like grayscale RGB or CMYK mode image) in Photoshop you should be saving with a grayscale profile like Dot Gain 30% of Gamma 2.2 or something else from the list. These profiles are designed to match printing conditions of various types or different types of monitors (and I'm not going to go into a lot of detail here).
Photoshop understands grayscale profiles, InDesign does not, so it looks at the numbers and says these are all black, so they belong in the black channel, and I'll put them in that channel in the current document CMYK working space. Different CMYK profiles behave a little differently when you print, but to be perfectly honest, I've never really investigated the consequences of choosing one over another for printing grayscale, because all the information is already black and I don't think assigning a new profile would change anything (though CONVERTING to a new profile might well take your grayscale and make it a 4-color image).
Dot gain is the amount of "spread" that happens to each halftone spot wne the ink is absorbed by the paper, and the number is usually defined as the amount of gain for a 50% dot. Dot gain causes images to print darker. For a classic illustration, think of using an eyedropper to drop a single drop of ink onto a sheet of tissue paper, and you'll get the idea. Coated papers usually have better ink "holdout" (they are less absorbent) than uncoated papers, and thus lower dot gain.
Laser printers don't use liquid ink, but they do have gain. The toner is melted and gets absorbed into the surface of the paper as it goes through the fuser which is what keeps it from falling off as a pile of dust.
So how do the prints look now, and what are the settings you are using in the print dialog?

  • Laserjet 2200 dn - won't print with windows 7

Have just bought a new system with Windows 7 and Office 2010 and don't seem to be able to get my printer to work.
Printer is a Laserjet 2200dn, connected via a USB.
The system recognises the printer as a HP Laserjet 2200 PCL5, however, when I try and print, the print queue shows "print error".  No way of identifying what the print error was.
Windows has not told me that it couldn't find a driver so I presume that it did.
Can anybody tell me how to get the printer to Print?

i have the exact same problem- i've even tried loading all 3 of the recommended drivers and using each-
even the original driver cd doesnt work- when it tries to install itself, it gets a "severe error" and quits.
have you gotten this thing to work at all?
i think the issue has to be with windows 7- the printer works with all of my other computers (of various op systems)

  • Statuspage of Laserjet 2200 DTN doesn't mention status nor settings of JetDirect 610

    Hi,
I'm wondering, if you print a statuspage on the Laserjet 2200 DTN... should the settings and status of JetDirect 610 be writen if it's active?
Not sure if just the network card is bad or the firmware of the printer might be wrong!?
The card doesn't light up when connected to LAN and nothing regarding the JetDirect card is mentioned on the statuspage..
Is there a tool available to check/update the firmware over USB?

Using the open-source GIMP printer driver for the LJ 4, I'm now able to print using the Printer's IP address and the HP JetDirect Socket protocol. (but only from the Macs)
This doesn't really answer the question or solve the problem.
My Windows PC still cannot see a network printer. I've even used the latest Win 98 HP Network setup wizard and it too does not see the network printers. Even though the 5/5M is seen as an AppleTalk printer on the PC, the wizard sees NO network printers.
Why won't my network recognize this AppleTalk printer all the while it sees the other AppleTalk printer?

  • HP LaserJet P2015 Tray 1 paper feed

My HP LaserJet P2015dn printer has been my workhorse printer since new, especially for printing checks, envelopes, forms from paper Tray 1. I always print using the Auto Select for paper feed, so that if there are checks/envelopes in Tray 1, they will be selected. For the past 6 weeks or so, the printer will not feed from Tray 1 on demand, that is will not pick paper from Tray 1 if Auto Select is enabled as I have used it in the past.
Printer will pick from Tray 1 IF Tray 1 is specifically selected OR Tray 2 has no paper or is removed. I doubt I can retrain myself to do either of these things as work arounds.
Stupidly, I paid a $50 bench fee for a technician to tell me the printer is mechanically working as it should. On further investigation, I have determined that the HP print drivers is use seem to have been installed on July 10, 2008 (about the time this issue started AFAIK) from a combined installer HPLaserJetP2015andColorLaserJet2605_2700.dmg which I installed for my Color LaserJet 2605dn printer.
I still have the prior LJP2015OSXfullsol.dmg on my hard disk, but reinstalling same does not seem to replace the new driver with the old.
So, is there any way to get rid of the the newer print software OR overlay the older on the newer? Other suggestions?

So, I cranked up my old PowerBook G4 (OS 10.4.11) which has the older driver for the P2015dn and the problem remains.
I have made some progress: If I want to print with paper feed from Tray 1, I pull Tray 2 out a few inches, load the paper in Tray 1, start the print job, and the yellow Attention LED flashes indicating an error. Note that the Paper Out light does NOT come on. So I press the Go button, the Attention LED goes out, and the print job completes using the forms in Tray 1 as desired.
So I'm thinking now, What Error condition? and why does clearing it make it print?
Certainly seems like a hardware problem to me as this is NOT the way the printer is supposed to work as documenetd in the User Guide.
