Laserjet 2605dtn fading fix.

I purchased my printer 22/12/08 it has had very little use ( still on the original toners) After printing off some photos with washed out colours I thought I needed to adjust some settings somewhere. It turns out the fault lay in the printer itself.
Below are a couple of snippits from a webpage I found that explained my problem.
Fading Red Tones on Color LaserJet 2600s by Don Thompson 2007
The problem is this: dust on thebeam alignment (mirrors) which are buried deep within the printer – the dust prevents the laser light reflecting off of them properly and thus toner is not collected up and put onto your printout.
Consider calling HP and asking them about any service notes on this problem
rumour has it there is one which may get you a free replacement printer
update on 4 Mar 2008: confirmed with HP support in UK that they will pickup, fix and return your printer (or a refurbished one) free
update on 10 Nov 2008: be sure to tell HP you are calling for the “fading” fix
I did phone HP only to be told my printer is out of warranty but they could let me have a refurbished replacement for very little cost. Great.
Turns out very little cost = £181 plus another £130 when the toners run out. The guys at HP must be on a good wage if they consider that as little cost. Especially as it might only last a year or two.
My gripe is HP knew about this problem long before I purchased my printer yet had done nothing to prevent people like myself wasting money on a printer knowing it was faulty.
Not fit for purpose would be the best way to describe this printer. If any Mods read this please reply giving your thoughts on this, or anybody who has come across this problem before.

As HP knew there was a fault with these printers long before I purchased mine I could demand they repair/replace as it defenatly a case of Latent Defect.
latent defect n. a hidden flaw, weakness or imperfection in an article which a seller knows about, but the buyer cannot discover by reasonable inspection. It includes a hidden defect in the title to land, such as an incorrect property description. Generally, this entitles the purchaser to get his/her money back (rescind the deal) or get a replacement without a defect on the basis of "implied" warranty of quality that a buyer could expect ("merchantability"). Even an "as is" purchase could be rescinded if it could be shown the seller knew of the flaw.
Would love a reply from HP.

  • Printing Acrobat files with HP Color LaserJet 2605dtn

Often, but not every instance, when I print an Adobe Acrobat file on the HP Color LaserJet 2605dtn Printer the following happens: the text prints as expected but the entire text area (but not the margins) is painted over with an orange red. This happens whether there is a graphic image in addition to text in the documents or when there is text only. With other Acrobat files, the text and/or graphic prints without a problem. I would like to know how to fix this problem.

It's featured on the forums before. For some reason Acrobat 8 doesn't go well with HP colour laserjet printers. I've suffered the same.
Two ways round it. Which preset (if any) do you use in Distiller to process the PS file? The red effect only appears when you use certain pre-sets.
I usually solve the problem by opening the PDF in Acrobat 6, not 8, and then printing from that

  • How do I enable "Wake on Lan" P1102W

iMacs, running 10.6.8, Airport Extreme, Laserjet P1102W with fixed IP address.  Once it goes to sleep, how do I wake it up?

I changed the wireless security setting on my wifi router to use "WPA-PSK [TKIP] + WPA2-PSK [AES]" instead of "WPA2-PSK".
I guess the printer has a problem with the newer version of WPA2.
Now it continues to be available even after it goes into powersave mode.
Try it - ymmv.  It took a stroke of luck and 12 months of frustration to figure this out.

  • Cannot print double-sided from Adobe Acrobat Professional 8.1.2

Cannot print double-sided from Adobe Acrobat Professional 8.1.2
Problem limited to Adobe Acrobat, MS Office 2008, Pages, Keynote.
Can print double-sided from Safari and Mac Mail
Using HP Color LaserJet 2605dtn. Have downloaded most recent driver from HP
    Computer: Apple MacPro Tower, 6GB 800 MHz DDR2 FB-DIMM, Quad-Core Intel Xeon, Processor speed = 3.2 GHz

Correct way to install new driver is go to Printer Utility and delete That printer from the list.
    Then install the new driver.
Then go back to Printer Utility and add the new driver Back
Then go to systems preferences and to Print Fax (or Printer if no longer setup for fax) and set up for the the printer and set as default.
This way you shouldn't have to go into either print menu or Page setup menu and set for desired printer.
most hp printer in the pint menu you click copies and pages and mouse down to two sided pages you choose either book (facing pages) or Tablet (printed as you would a Tablet that's bound at the top.
you need to test a two page document to see which does correctly for you. Its best never to have the application set for two sided. in fact if you have set for two sided in both one counter acts the the other.
So set it only in the printer menu and no where else.
Also once you set up you can save printer profiles that you can go back to click on the Presets button mouse down to very bottom save with a anme you can remember even put the words two-sided in title then save. Then you can go to that preset and print your heart out.

  • Color Laserjet 3600 PQ print quality test pink shows faded on right side

All the color print outs have this somewhat faded color on the right side.
When I ran the PQ test under troubleshooting it shows on the pink page missing color pink towards the right side.
fades into white / blank. Already changed the toner and still happens. I calibrated that printer twice and still occurs.
what else can i do to fix this?

    Hi ProspeorusCE,
The product you have is a commercial printer. I suggest posting in the forum for HP Business Support for a better chance at finding a solution.

  • Does anyone know how to fix a problem printing with HP Laserjet printer?

We've recently begun experiencing problems when trying to print to our HP Laserjet printer.  The iMac system seems to recognize the printer, but the print job gets "held up" in processing and never prints.  We can turn the printer on and off and then one print job will be executed.  However, then the system "freezes up" again and we have to repeat the whole process of turning the printer on and off.  Very strange and frustrating.  Especially, since the printer was working fine until recently.
    Any help would be appreciated!

Are you definitely running 10.6.7 as your profile says, or could you be on 10.6.8. If it's 10.6.8 quite a few people have reported printing problems.
Have a look at this thread: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3137602?start=75&tstart=0
Worth perusing the whole thread but 'velocius' seems to have posted a solution that has worked for several people (make sure you use the correct entry - 3 from the end of page 6).
If you are on 10.6.7 you could try 'resetting the printing system'. System Preferences>Print & Fax and Control+Click on a printer listed on the left and select 'reset printing system'. All your printers will be deleted and need to be added again, but it might help fix the problem.

How much data is being backed-up from each Mac?  (see what's shown for Estimated size of full backup under the exclusions box in Time Machine Prefs > Options).
Is there any other data on your Time Capsule, besides the backups?
Most likely, there just isn't room.  Time Machine may be trying to do a very large (or full) backup of one or both Macs, and can't.  Since it won't ever delete the most recent backup, there has to be enough room for one full backup plus whatever it's trying to back up now, plus 20% (for workspace).

  • Vertical faded pink lines and pixelated fonts in the Menu, how to fix?

    Hi there,
I bought my iMac in Jan 2010, and just after my Apple Care expired three years later I started to have some problems I have no idea how to fix, hope someone can help.
When starting the computer, I get either a grey screen (I cannot go further or see anything else), or after starting the computer, seems like only the screensaver works, and if you try to open any menu, you'll get a black screen.
All this happened right after the last update.
I followed all the steps advised by Apple to fix the grey screen, but none of them worked.
I also formatted the hard drive (I was using 10.8) and installed other OS (10.6).
It worked well, except that I got now time vertical faded pink lines right after starting the computer, and the fonts in the menu looks like pixelated, they're not clear. but it only happens with the menu, Safari and other programs look fine.
    Any idea what's going on?

This looks as though you may have a failing GPU.
You can try these resets that may help, but it looks like a hardware failure.
You may want to take it in to an Apple store genius bay, they will diagnose it for free and give you your options.

  • Has anyone fixed wireless printing to HP LaserJet 1015 via AEBS Snow

    Dear All
I've searched the forums, read numerous posts by HP Mac Architect (thanks BTW for your amazing efforts), tried various things, and still can't get wireless printing back on my HP LaserJet 1015.
    My set up is:
Intel Core Duo 20" iMac, 10.6.1, running latest version 2.2 HP drivers (383Mb download)
Airport Extreme Base Station Snow, running firmware 5.7
HP LaserJet 1015 connected to the USB port of AEBS
Worked in 10.5.8. Absolutely nothing in 10.6.1 - not an initial page, nothing after resets or restarts, nothing. It has also scuppered wireless printing to the 1015 from another iMac on the network running Leopard 10.5.8.
    I have tried the following:
    1) Usual stuff - restart AEBS, restart computer, switch off printer, unplug AEBS 30 seconds, reconnect printer
    2) Deleting all HP stuff from Library/Printers, Library/Printers/PPDS/Contents/Resources, System/Library/Extensions, restarting, reinstalling HP drivers version 2.2, re-adding printer
    3) Add the printer via Bonjour, using plain driver, Gutenprint driver
    4) Add the printer via IP printing, HP JetDirect - Socket, using address of base station +/- the port, using either plain driver or Gutenprint driver
    5) Tried the ipstat stuff in the terminal to get CUPS to accept the URI
    6) Tried downgrading firmware of AEBS to 5.6 then 30s off, then back to 5.7, 30s off, then re-add the printer
    The error messages I get:
    Initially 'communication failure'
Then 'client-error-not-possible' from the other iMac
Now mainly 'unable to open device (read failure)'
I have yet to try the HPIJS drivers but before I do so has anyone else had any success or tried any other things I've not mentioned?
Do I need to wait till 10.6.2 or buy a new N base station or buy a new printer or what?
    Thanks in advance

    mwong,
At the moment, there is no way I know of to get the LaserJet 1015 printing through the USB port any Airport base station that isn't running a firmware version of 7.4.2 (ie an 802.11N compatible Airport). Some people have had some luck on newer G's running 6.3, but I haven't seen anyone report success with 5.7 yet. At the moment, there is nothing we can do from our end to fix the issue.
    Just trying to help.
    Andrew

I have a similar issue with a Laserjet cp1525nw, it was mostly corrected by removing and reseating the toner cartridges.

Just bought this new a few day's ago and each page of print has about 20mm wide streak missing print running down the centre. what can I do to correct this problem? I'm using a Premium quality paper for use in laserjet printer's. Could someone please advise me what I can do. Thanks in anticipation.

    Hi Watcher35,
I see that the new Laserjet Pro 100 MFP M175NW is missing print down the center of the pages, you have ran cleaning and color calibration but the issue is not resolved.
Would this be an accurate example of the issue: but with the "Bb" would be completely missing?
This HP document: Resolving Print Quality Issues may take you though some of the same steps you have already done, I suggest not skipping any steps.
If the troubleshooting does not help resolve your issue, I would then suggest calling HP's Technical Support to see about further options for you. If you are calling within North America, the number is 1-800-474-6836 and for all other regions, click here.
