Laserjet 3800N Color Issue

Hi there,
I've got an HP 3800N that the color is not printing properly on.  I believe it is a problem with the magenta cartridge as other colors don't seem too bad but the magenta seems light.  I've tried printing cleaning pages, replacing the cartridge, reseating the formatter board and changing the color density on the printer itself and ran all the print quality test pages as well.  I'm going to try updating the firmware to see if that works but if not I'm thinking that I may have to replace the DC controller board?  If so, does anyone have instructions on how to do this?  Thanks please let me know if you need more clarification!  Thanks.

What type of paper are you using, weight, and content?  I'm going assume you are using HP toner cartridges that have not been refilled?   If this is the case, you might try a couple of different options. One, you can try to re-calibrate your printer.  To do this you can go through the control panel, select Menu, scroll to Configure Device then scroll to Print Quality, scroll to Full Calibrate Now select.  This will take a few minutes to reset your printer calibration to optimize print quality.  If this does not work, you may want to print the internal Print Quality (PQ) troubleshooting pages.  Do this, select Menu, scroll to Diagnostics, select Diagnostics, scroll to  PQ Troubleshooting and select.  This will print out several different pages.  You can use these pages to diagnose if you have an issue with your magenta cartridge.  You will need the assistance of hp.com web site to help in troubleshooting these pages.  Go to
www.hp.com/go/printquality/clj3800.  You will need to calabrate your printer before troubleshooting.  This is documented in your User's guide, which ships on the Printer CD that was included with your printer, on page 171 and in Chapter 8.  There is also some information on printing issue with color and media on page 170.  Follow the instructions on the web page to help resolve your issue.

  • HP LaserJet CP1525nw Color Alignment Issue

Hi,I am using the HP LaserJet 1525nw Color Laser Printer. It is half a year old and equipped with the original color cartridges. Since a few days, the colors are extremely misaligned. The "Diagnosis Page" clearly shows misaligned angles an page one.The colored angles are misaligned by up to 2 millimeters. I started calibrating the printer over and over, always checking the diagnosis prints in between. After 6 calibrations I have reached almost satisfactuary results but misalignment could still be clearly seen. A 7th calibration made it all worse again. Does this lead anywhere? Shouldn't calibration work in the first place?Has anybody faced the same problem and has got a solution? Any help is kindly appreciated. Best regards Ilko

I too bought one of these printers and as with the other posters experienced colour misalignment.Being told to 'replace the toner cartridges' every time it misaligns is really not acceptable. It seems that this printer is just doomed to go out of alignment and there isn't anything that can be done about it. It would be nice if HP acknowledged this and came up with some sort of resolution but I doubt that it will happen. Having also experienced problems with the previous HP colour laserjet it looks like HP have lost the quality that was a trademark of their laser printers.

  • Manual duplex printing doesn't work for LaserJet 100 color MFP M175a

    Hi !
OS Windows 8.1. Printer LaserJet 100 color MFP M175a. Driver version 61.108.8.10073 date 2011 Apr 13th
    1. After switching on checkbox "Print on Both Sides (Manually)" on "Finishing" tab of Print Properties Dialog and
start printing, dialog with instruction how to turn paper appears. Then printer must print odd pages, stop for
turning paper and then continue printing of even pages on the back side of paper sheets. But my device prints
all pages sequentually in order 1,2,3,... without any breaks. What is it- my mistake or possible bug in driver ?
    2. Windows API function DeviceCapabilities with fwCapability=DC_DUPLEX for this printer returns 0 (duplex printing
impossible). This value for any other HP printer, even without automatic duplexer, always equel to 1.

  • HP LaserJet 400 Color MFP M475dw Problems in OS 10.9.4

I'm using a 2013 MacBook Pro, 2.4 GHz Intel Core i7, 9 GB 1600 MHz DDR3.  I connect via wifi to the referenced printer (for almost a year now).  Since updating to OS 10.9.4 I am able to print only one document at a time.  Attempting to print a second document generates the message "Printer is not connected."  If I turn the printer off and back on again, I'm able to print one document.  Then the same thing occurs again.  I have done the following so far, all to no avail:
Downloaded and installed latest driver (specifically for Mavericks) from HP
Checked for Apple software updates and found none
Reset the printing system (per instructions elsewhere in these forums)
I updated to OS 10.9.4 on July 5th and that is when this problem started.  Where do I go from here???

And BTW, here's a repost of what I posted on July 7th:
I'm running a 2013 Macbook Pro, 2.4 GHz Intel Core i7, 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3, OS version 10.9.4 (updated to this OS version 5 days ago, on July 2nd).  For a little less than a year I've been printing to a HP LaserJet 400 Color MFP M475dw via wireless connection.  A few weeks ago I began to have numerous "printer is not connected" events, and it reached the point I could not print anything - from my MacBook, my iPad Air, or my iPhone 5S.  I discovered there was an updated printer driver on HP's website, specifically for OS 10.9.  Downloaded and installed it, and the problem was seemingly solved.
Then I updated the OS to 10.9.4.  AARRRRGH!!!!!!  For the last 5 days, the printer will - sometimes - print the first document in a queue of 2 or more and then, while the printer is still "running," tell me the printer is not connected.  I turn the printer off and back on, get one print job, then have to repeat the process.  Here are all the things I've tried to resolve the issue:
Verified settings on the printer to make sure everything is set up properly
Restarted Airport Extreme, printer, and MacBook (multiple times) -- clarification:  I turned off both the MacBook and the printer, then unplugged Airport for a few minutes, replugged it, restarted the printer, then restarted the MacBook
Reset the printing system (as suggested elsewhere in the Support forums), which basically removes all printers from the MacBook, then lets you add back those that you want - presumably with the most current driver(s).
Searched help/support forums on Apple, HP, and the internet in general
Found a firmware update for the printer on HP's website -- but it is not compatible with OS 10.9 (only goes up through 10.8).  I downloaded it and tried, even though 10.9 was not listed, and the "app" wouldn't even open.
All of these efforts have been to no avail.  The problem persists, and I'm at my wit's end how to solve it.  HELP, please..........anyone??????

  • Engine error HP LaserJet 100 color MFP M175 PCL6 wireless

    Hi folks,
I would like to help with the "engine error" you're experiencing. I would like you to download the HP LaserJet Pro Series Firmware Update Utility. With this utility we can install a firmware update for the printer hardware. Please read all the steps below before clicking the above link. If you are using a mac operating system Click here instead.
    Flash Firmware Update Notes:
The Firmware Update Utility uses the USB connection to the printer.
The HP LaserJet 100 color MFP M170 series print driver software must be installed prior to using this utility.
The HP LaserJet 100 color MFP M170 series printer must be on and in a READY state as shown by the LCD display on the control panel and remain powered on during the entire firmware update process.
Depending on the processor speed of your pc, the firmware update process may complete on the printer before the update status progress bar in the flash firmware update utility on the pc screen completes, this is normal.
Once the update process has started, do not use your pc for any other activity until the process is complete.
Do not power cycle the product or the pc until the firmware update process is complete
    Steps to take :
    1. Download the flash firmware updater file by clicking the appropriate  link above. (The first link is for Windows operating systems and the second is for Mac)
    2. Turn the printer off and then back on to clear main printer memory.
    3. Double click on the file M170_colorMFP_Series_FW_Update-20111021.exe flash firmware update utility file. An HP firmware update window will open.
    4. Select the appropriate HP M170 MFP series driver in the dialog window. If you assigned a different name to the HP M170 MFP, choose the name that represents the correct printer.
    5. Click on ""Send Firmware"" when ready to proceed.
    6. The progress bar will begin to move to the right indicating information being transferred.
    7. DO NOT power cycle the product or the pc during this process or the product may become unstable and or unusable without further attention from HP. The flash firmware update can take up to 5 minutes to complete. Please be patient.
    8. During the product flash firmware update, the display on the product control panel will display ""Printing Document- Erasing - Programming - Complete - Hewlett-Packard - Ready - Initializing - Ready"". Once the download is finished the printer will be in the Ready state.
    9. At the conclusion of the firmware update, the dialog window will show a smiley face. Click on exit.
    10. The flash firmware update process is complete
Please let me know if this resolves the issue and/or if you would like further assistance.

After each print job I get the message on printer screen  "Engine error press [OK]"  It will print again only after pushing Ok button.  Is there a fix?  HP printers have not been that reliable, I 'm will not buy onother if this cannot be fixed.

  • LaserJet 100 color MFP M175nw - how do I install a different driver on the server to which I RDP?

I have installed my LaserJet 100 color MFP M175nw on my (32-bit) Windows XP Pro SP3 PC via USB and it works fine.  When I make it the default printer (I also have another HP printer installed locally) and use Windows Remote Desktop (RDP) to my server - which is (64-bit) Windows Enterprise without Hyper-V SP2 (2008 R2) it prints but some fonts show gobbledygook. The printer driver on the server is defaulting to "terminal services easy print".  I have administrator privileges on the server and have, in the past, been able to download the appropriate driver to the server so that printing in the RDP session works.  But now I only seem to be able to find installation software to download (not the actual drivers).  So, when attempting to install the software (rather than copy it) on the server the installation waits for the local (USB) connection and won't proceed.
What is the best practices way to have the locally installed (fully functional) machine be able to print from an RDP session?  I'm sure I shouldn't have to drag each new local printer to the server and install it locally with a USB cable.

    Hi there IT _Mgr
Quick suggestion; This is a commercial product. I will suggest seraching for posible solutions and posting in the forum for HP Business Support for yet a better chance at finding a prompt solution.

  • "Filter failed" in CUPS when using IPP (HP LaserJet 500 color M551)

I have two ArchLinux machines, one with HP LaserJet 500 color M551 connected over USB and another one on the same network. Printing over network (ipp) doesn't work: CUPS on the client says "Filter failed", so the job doesn't even reach the server. Printing directly from the server works perfectly fine, there's no "Filter failed" message and it just prints.
Both machines have the same ArchLinux installation, they are both x86_64, they have hpijs installed and the same PPD selected. This WiKi entry didn't help and the printer differs from the one discussed here, so it doesn't seem to be a well-known issue. :-(
I tried to reinstall the printer on the client many times, using both DNSSD and direct URI input. All this seems to work fine. The filter that fails is probably /usr/lib/cups/filter/hpps, but I have no idea how to get debugging info from it, i.e., why it fails etc. The same filter works just fine on the server.
I thought this might have something to do with the distinction between PostScript and the HP PCL variants. Enabling Adobe TBCP should fix this by adding the appropriate binary metadata and escaping things as needed... However, switching TBCP on in the CUPS printer settings stopped the printer from working. The printer appeared to be OK and responsive, but simply didn't print anything. Disabling TBCP fixed this on the server, but the client shows the "Filter failed" message, no matter what's happening on the server.

I have similar problems with network printing (from various 32-bit and 64-bit Arch systems) producing 'Filter failed' messages, while directly printing from the CUPS server - with USB connection to the device - works as expected. My all-in-one device is an HP Photosmart C4480 and everything worked fine a few weeks ago. (Ironically, I can get network scanning using Xsane!) I've tried reinstalling, and various drivers to no avail.
It's very frustrating, and I think I've tried everything suggested in the Wiki.

  • HP LaserJet 200 Color M251NW

Hey Yall, I've been searching and watching videos, but it seems like my problem is more complex than it should be.
I just purchased a LaserJet 200 Color M251nw and I use a Macbook runnining on Mavericks OSx (10.9.2)
Two-Sided Printing is why I purchased it, besides it being a good deal and having Laser Technology..
PROBLEM: I can't seem to ENABLE double-sided printing. I have installed latest drivers, and here's the kicker, there is no "driver" tab for my printer to allow me to "checkbox" Duplex Printing that I have been seeing on other support pages. The only TABS i see are the Utility and General. I've seen the Driver tab for previously owned printers but not this one.
    PLEASE help!!!

    Hi HDRogerMartin,
Welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience!
I understand you would like to know how to set the two-sided printing.
I will be happy to help you.
This information is provided by the Manual on page 38.
    LASERJET PRO 200 COLOR.
Print on both sides (Mac OS X)
    1. Insert enough paper into one of the trays to accommodate the print job.
    2. On the File menu, click the Print option.
    3. Open the Finishing menu, and click the Manual Duplex tab or open the Manual Duplex menu.
    4. Click the Manual Duplex box, and select a binding option.
    5. Click the Print button. Follow the instructions in the pop-up window that appears on the computer
screen before replacing the output stack in Tray 1 for printing the second half.
    6. Go to the product, and remove any blank paper that is in Tray 1.
    7. Insert the printed stack face-up with the bottom edge feeding into the printer first in Tray 1.
    8. If prompted, press the appropriate control-panel button to continue.
You can also set this as a preset.
Create a printing preset for Mac.
1.On the File menu, click the Print option.
    2.Select the driver.
3.Select the print settings that you want to save for reuse.
4.In the Presets menu, click the Save As… option, and type a name for the preset.
    5.Click the OK button.
    Use printing presets
1.On the File menu, click the Print option.
    2.Select the driver.
3.In the Presets menu, select the printing preset.
    Hope this helps.

  • Help with hp LaserJet 100 color MFP M175nw

Hi all, have run the suggested HP troubleshooting solutions for the below problem but still persists.
When I print from any programme I get yellow smudges along the edge of the print outs at regular intervals. Initially I thought it was yellow toner smudging at the edges somehow and cleaned all the rollers etc. No joy so now think it may be light burn marks on the paper? Out of ideas to resolve the issue. Any suggestions gratefully received. Thanks

    Hello,
I'm going to keep this short and simple.
We are/were hp partners once, I bought myself a HP Laserjet 100 color MFP M175nw at Staples in Belgium (Staples is bankrupt meanwhile - a pity for their employees)
I ordered toners on tonershop.be, these toners are approved, HP was fined for this sort of behaviour as 100% valid replacement.   HP forces me to do a software update, next thing I'm seeing is a big warning that I'm using counterfeit products and that I need to contact HP.   This is the world upside down, HP is violating the European free market.   Not the poor guy that wants to make an extra buck, for an underpaid salary in a sweatshop somewhere.
My printer is ruined (I have +25 years profound technical knowledge, experience, whatever)
But my printer is still under warranty no?   No HP (online tells me it isn't) so back to Staples, fortunately they had a copy of my invoice, so that I can be repaired in warranty but no, I the evil HP partner that sold for multiple hundreds of thousands of euros worth of HP products, I used LEGAL replacement toners.  Sorry Mr you have to buy a new printer.
Well I don't.    I'm going to take this whole sage (with the microchips with false information, on the toner cartridges full off very expensive toner powder.   And I'm going to mail it to Neelie Kroes and I really hope that HP get's convicted for market manipulation, price agreements, putting themselves above national legislation and lot's of other misconducts.
And because of management that is only interested in greed and their 25th Villa, Tesla car, Island, it will be the HP employee that pay the price for this sort of arrogance and plain stupidity.
HP: You have my contact details, send me an email.
And then the 'too big too fall' companies annoy you with useless questionnaires about their customer service, they ask themselves why nobody is buying their products and so on.
Anyway, for this type of printer I know the story from A-Z meanwhile, I have kept all evidence, invoices and whatever and once again I was once somebody that made you company what it is today after the HP/Compaq merger.
You board of directors, top management, yes Mrs. Ex CEO from Ebay), that is why people don't buy HP anymore.   High Prices, no service.
I prefer to keep this reaction anonymous, one could imagine why.
But I have my a digital print of this post, and signed it with a digital signature.
Because everything what I mentioned above is how it is.
Stop ruining our planet and the future of my children for your own greedy behaviour.
    Mr X.

  • WiFi Connect HP LaserJet 100 color MFP M175nw

I have been using a HP LaserJet 100 color MFP M175nw succesfully over my home WiFi network for a few months now. I had a Comcast (WiFi) outage yesterday and had to re-configure my cable-modem/WiFi-Router (combo unit - Motorola Surfboard SBG6580). I used a new SSID name and password when I reconfigured the modem/router.
I assumed that it should be simple enough to re-point my printer to the new SSID and provide the new password. I assumed wrong and I am unbale to get my printer back on to my WiFi network.
I was hoping to launch HP Device Toolbox via the USB connection and reset the SSID name and password but I am unable to connect to the printer to do this.
    Any help is much appreciated.

    Hi @sp2014 ,
I see by your post that you had to reconfigure the router and now the printer won't connect back to the wireless network. I will certainly do my best to help you.
    Restore the printer's network defaults.
    Touch the Setup button. (wrench)
    Select Network Setup Menu.
    Then select Restore Defaults.
Print out a configuration report to make sure the IPv4 address is 0.0.0.0 and the SSID is cleared.
    Printing a Configuration Report.
Follow these steps to setup the wireless again through Wireless Direct.
On the printer touch the setup button, (wrench) then select network setup menu, select wireless menu, select wireless direct and turn it on.
On the computer, in the bottom right corner click on the wireless icon and select the printer from the list to connect to.
Then open Internet Explorer and type in the IP address (192.168.223.1) for the printer in the address bar.
This will load the embedded web server for the printer.
Select the networking tab, wireless on the left hand side.
Fill out all your network information, select infrastructure, select your network name, put in password and type of encryption.
    Apply settings.
Click on the wireless icon and connect back to your network name.
Print out a configuration report to make sure the IP address is valid. (192... or 10....)
Then run the Add Printer Wizard or reinstall the software again.
You can also setup the printer back up on the wireless network by first connecting by a Ethernet connection.
If you have a Ethernet cable, connect it from the printer to the router.
Wait about a minute, print the configuration page to see if you get a IP address.
Then type the IP address into Internet Explorer's address bar to bring up the printer's web page.
Select the networking tab, wireless on the left hand side.
Fill out all your network information, select infrastructure, select your network name, put in password and type of encryption. Apply settings.
Then wait a minute to see if you get a wireless light on the printer, print the configuration page and check the IP address again. Then type the IP address into Internet Explorer's address bar to bring up the printer's web page.
Run the Add Printer Wizard or reinstall the software again.
If you need further assistance, just let me know.
    Have a nice day!

  • Laserjet 100 color MFP M175nw wifi connection problem

Some days ago I bought new router Cisco RV 120W and HP Laserjet 100 color MFP M175nw and
I thought the configuration of these devices will go without a problem. But NOT. I get tired of wireless printing, already the second day. I am unable to establish a wireless connection with Laserjet as infrastructure.I've tried everything, connect via USB, I installed the HP driver from a CD and even setup printer via Ethernet cable. I was able to connect to the printer ad-hoc but that's not what I mean. I need my printer in network as infrastructure.
My router provides 802.11n  WPA2 PSK with AES. HP Driver Installer can not set parameters of my wireless network, It is allows me to enter the network key but can not find the printer later on wireless connections. I was able to set the parameters of the wireless network by connecting by Ethernet, the printer feeds in the report that the wireless is turned on, connected, pront correct the name of the network, signal strength, but it can not be installed on Windows.
My router shows the DHCP clients (laptops, iPhones) but can not see the printer. Does the printer have a wireless network card damaged? Already checked all the options on the router and I have no ideas.

    Hi yarzig
I understand you are unable to setup the wireless on the printer.
Make sure the computer is on the right network.
Disconnect the ethernet cable from the printer.
    Restore the printer defaults.
On the printer select the setup button, right arrow to service menu, ok,  right arrow to  restore defaults, ok.
Print a configuration report to make sure there is no IP address and your network name. (SSID)
Go to the setup button (wrench) on the printer, right arrow to reports, select config report.
Now connect the ethernet cable from the printer to the router.
Wait about 1 minute and print the configuration page to get the IP address.
If you have a valid IP address for the printer try and access the embedded web server.
Type the IP address into internet explorer address bar.
If it loads the printer's network page then the printer is on the network.
Now we can setup the wireless connection.
Click on the Networking Tab, on the left select wireless, fill out the information. Apply the settings, once you get a reply back then disconnect the ethernet cable from the printer.
Should get a solid blue light on the printer.
Now run the add printer wizard.
If you are using Win 7,  go to start, devices and printers, add printer, go through the wizard. Should find the printer and install the driver. If not then go to add printer, select local, select create a new port, click drop down and select TCP\IP, next, type in the printer's IP address. Continue the wizard.
Make sure the printer is online.
Test the wireless and see if you can now print.
If you require further assistance please provide the following so I can assist you
    better.
What operating system are you using?
Here is a document to check your operating system for Windows.
Is this a laptop or desktop?
Is the computer wireless or hardwired to the router?
What network setup do you have? (Modem/router/2 routers/booster/airport/switch)

  • HP Laserjet 100 color MFP M175nw does not connect to Virgin SuperHub

Spent the last day trying to connect my laptop wirelessly to a HP Laserjet 100 color printer.
I've uninstalled and tried to re-install the software, both from the disk supplied with the printer and from the less than useful HP support website.
The installation process gets to the point after 30 minutes or so, where it decides "An install operation took too long to execute. This is preventing product use" - so I cannot install the software. Despite during the process connecting the laptop via a USB cable.
This happens on two laptops (both HP one with  Windows 7.1, the other with Windows 8.1, the result is the same in either case. This is extremely frustrating. So would appreciate a view as to how I might fix this.
The only thing that has changed is upgrade to a Virgin Superhub - but I do not see why this would cause the issue.

Welcome to the HP Forums DG-UK,
I see by your post that you are getting the error message of  "An install operation took too long to execute. This is preventing product use" on Windows 7.1 and Windows 8.1. I can help you with this issue.
I am going to provide some steps so we can get the printer configured on the wireless network and then worry about the installation after that.
On the printer's control panel, touch the setup button, network setup menu, wireless direct, turn it on.
On the Windows 7 computer to play it safe, go to the wireless icon in the bottom right corner and select the printer's network name.
Open Internet Explorer and type in the IP address (192.168.223.1) for the printer in the address bar.
This will load the Embedded Web Server for the printer.
Select the networking tab, wireless on the left hand side.
Fill out all your network information, select infrastructure, select your network name, put in password and type of encryption.
    Apply settings.
Now the printer should be configured over the wireless network.
Then go to the wireless icon in the bottom right corner again and select your network name.
Run the uninstall from the CD software to remove any registry files.
Disconnect the USB cable if it is connected.
Go to start, computer, right click on the CD and left click open, double click on uninstall.
Then disable all the start up programs and temporarily turn off the Antivirus Software. How to use MSCONFIG .
Click on the start up tab and click disable all.
Then go to start, computer, right click the CD and left click open, right click install or setup and run as administrator.
Select the option for  wireless connection.
    Test the printer now.
Then you will need to go back in and enable the start up programs and turn the Antivirus Software back on again.
Please provide in detail the results if you are still having issues.
    Have a nice day.
    Thank You.
