Laserjet M1217nfw - Bricked after disconnected wireless firmware update

Hi,
As I was upgrading my firmware for the Laserjet M1217nfw via my wireless network, my wireless router flaked out and i lost connectivity.        I was about 50% complete sending the latest firmware to the printer.     How do i go about unbricking this?    Can I do this via the RJ45 port or via the USB connection?
Thanks,

The firmware update can be downloaded from here and is able to be performed across USB.
Let me know how this goes.

After the 40S51U Firmware Update 2.2.5 wireless passwords must be re-entered every time the device is powered on. It's been almost 4 months since the untested patch was released – is a fix coming?

  • Not Able To Print w/ Lexmark X2600 After Recent Airport Firmware Update

    Hi,
So, after the recent firmware update for the Airport Extreme (802.11n), I can no longer print to my printer share. The device is recognized in Bonjour, and I use the correct driver as I did before, but when I send something to the printer, it just reads:
    "Connecting to MyNetwork.local...
There is a problem communicating with the printer. Make sure the printer is powered on and connected to the computer. Delete or hold the job and try again."
Now, if I connect the printer directly to my computer and set it up with the same drivers over USB, it works just fine. Can I get some support on this?

    Hi,
    Have you tried this?
To change the printer’s network settings:
    1. Open the printer's embedded Web server.
    2. Click the Networking tab. For wireless settings, click Wireless. For IP settings, click IP
    Configuration.
    3. Change the printer's settings to match the settings of the network, then click Finish.
    4. Close the printer's EWS, then disconnect the Ethernet cable from the printer.
    5. The control panel lights will cycle.
The previous procedure is from the Wireless Printer User Guide for your printer.
    Best regards,
    erico

  • LaserJet M1217nfw won't do wireless printing from iMac 10.7.5 after HP firmware update

My LaserJet M1217 worked perfectly until I did the recent firmware update. Now it's a brick. I called tech support, was on hold for nearly an hour, got offshore folks who kept me on even longer with marketing hoo-hah, and finally told me that the mfp was no longer under warranty and they wouldn't help unless I paid. I explained that the problem was caused by HP's own firmware update, but no dice. Tried a tweet to HP - also no luck. Tried again, had a nearly two-hour hold, couldn't understand the guy. Wasn't about to pay when the help was incomprehensible. So now I have a brick. And clients waiting. And a grudge.
I tried the fix suggested earlier in the forum - holding down the x and the right arrow while powering up. The printer showed ready...and made copies, but when I tried to print I still got printer errors saying the printer isn't connected to the computer.
So I went to system preferences and deleted the HP M1217, then went online and downloaded the HP driver again. Opened it up, but now during setup it wants the network address or network name for the desired printer. And I have no idea. I tried going on Safari and entering localhost:631/printers, but since the HP still isn't in the system, it doesn't show up. And maybe this wasn't even the right thing to try, but I'm getting no help from HP, and I'm not very technical. Argh.
Any thoughts? Or should I just chuck what was a wonderful device and never buy anything from HP again.
    Thank you!!!

    Hello SC_W,
The IP address can be fixed by going to Setup > Network Config > TCP/IP Config from the printer front panel.
Then select Manual and set the IP as manual.. I would using an higher value to avoid IP conflicts (e.g. if the current IP is 10.0.0.1, change only the last part to 10.0.0.20 so the address will remain and won't be used by other devices when the printer is powered off.)
Although I personally doubt it will help assigning a fixed IP as Mac OS X uses Bonjour hostname to communicate with the printer (which is fixed) and not athe IP address as Windows uses.
Additionally, as Apple products uses Bonjour, I could see some discussions on this matter for the Home Hub 3.0.
    Below is an example:
    https://community.bt.com/t5/Other-BB-Queries/HomeHub-3-Apple-Bonjour-not-working-for-AirPlay-AirPrin...
If setting a fixed IP does not help, try the folowing to isolate the problem and ensure if Multicast packets transfer may cause the issue:
From your Mac go to System Preferences > Print & Scan, click the Plus sign and then click the IP tab.
Select the HP Jetdirect Socket protocol and type the IP as the address value.
Add the printer, you will see an additional print queue listed as the IP address.
Keep using this queue for printing and let me know if you may se any difference for this print queue..

  • 27" iMac very sluggish after recent software/firmware update

I bought my 27" iMac (2.7 GHz Intel Core i5, 4GB RAM) maybe 6-7 months ago...and it has had NO problems. Even after updating to Lion. Smooth.
But after the most recent graphics firmware update (Feb 29) and software update (late Feb/ealry March 2012...can't remember exact date)...now my iMac is so sluggish! Running more than one application really makes my iMac run slow. And I'm not talking about Photoshop...I'm talking about Firefox, Safari, Mail, iTunes. Basic ones. Especially bad when I play video...very choppy.
Any clue what's going on? I ran Disk Utilitiy (all good, repaired permissions), Clean My Mac, CCleaner...all say good and healthy. So I am at a loss.
Any help would be greatly be appreciated. I'm still under warranty...but I don't think I need to bring it in do I?
    Thanks!

  • Freeze at startup after System and Firmware update - Help!

I took the automated system upgrade last Sunday including updates on a bunch of Apple applications, OS X 10.4.6 (it was included if I recall correctly) and a SMC Firmware update. After downloading all files and installing them my iMac restarted. After that the SMC Firmware upgrade started and I followed the instructions ending in another restart.
This is where my problems began. At this startup I got through the grey screen with the Apple logo and got so far as to the blue screen with the Mac symbol saying something like "starting up". The progress bar started moving and froze after reaching about a fifth of its final length.
As this was a firmware update I didn't want to interrupt anything so I left it for the night (no progress in the morning) and for the next day. Still no progress when I came home from work so I shut it down (pulled the power cord).
Efter this I've tried to fall back using the Firmware Restoration CD available at Apple's support page, but this doesn't work. My iMac refuses to start the installation of the old Firmware even though I follow the fallback instructions. (After starting the computer and keeping the power on button pressed I wait for the front light below the screen to first flash rapidly for a while and then do a SOS (three short, three long and three short blinks). The SOS however, never happens, instead the computer proceeds directly to the grey startup screen before it freezes when it reaches the blue screen.
I have no clue to what to do. Any and all help will be greatly appreciated.

    iMac 20" (Intel)   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

    minxlj,
It is not my intention to be rude, however, it is my intention to be direct. Do you have a G5 or do you have an Intel Core Duo, or perhaps even both? Because right now your signature says you have a G5, which has PPC chips in it made by IBM, not Core Duo chips made by Intel.
The reason I ask is because, just as in another Discussion here in the Intel forum, you are responding to information that appears to not apply to the computer you say you have and you are giving information that, if you have a G5, does not apply to the computers of the folks here in the Intel forum.
Could you please clear that up by correcting your signature so everyone here knows you are comparing oranges with oranges and not mangos with oranges?
    Staffan,
As far as the SMC Firmware update and the Firmware Restoration CD, the two items are not related. The Firmware Restoration CD is only for the Firmware Update that came out in mid-April. It is intended for someone whose computer messed up in the application of the Firmware Update and is intended to bring their computer back to its Firmware state prior to the botched Firmware Update. It will not assist you if you had problems applying the SMC Firmware Update from early May.
If I am understanding your description of your Mac's problem it sounds if if you have successfully installed the SMC firmware update, but now have a possible 3rd party satrtupitem that is not allowing your Mac's OS X to fully boot. You can check to see if both the Firmware Update and SMC Firmware Update have been successfully installed by booting your Mac into safe Mode by pressing the "Shift" key during startup. This boot will take longer than normal because it is verifying and repairing your directory. After the desktop appears, go to Apps/Utilities/System Profiler. In the Contents section, highlight Hardware and Hardware Overview should show; Boot ROM Version: IM41.0055.B03 for the Firmware update and SMC Version: 1.1f5 for the SMC Firmware Update.

  • Ram not working after 2.8 firmware update

Installed the 2.8 firmware update on my late '08 macbook pro and after restarting it, it would just beep 3 times and not start up. I pulled my 8 gig kingston ram out, repositioned back and still the same issue. Slapping in the original 4 gigs of apple ram, it will start up and work fine though. Anyone else experiencing this? Is there a fix to get the 8 gigs working again on the machine?

That's the correct RAM for your computer. Those computers were originally spec'd to only use 4GB's max, a "secret" firmware update was found to let them use 8GB's max. I wonder if this firmware update set things back to 4GB's max. And before you ask, no you can't downgrade firmware.

  • Thunderbolt Display USB ports not working after 1.2 firmware update

I installed the Thunderbolt Display Firmware Update 1.2 a few days back, and following that update, the USB ports on my display have stopped working completely. The display's Thunderbolt port and Ethernet jacks are working fine, as is the Thunderbolt/power cable connection to my MacBook Air (mid-2011, 11 inch, running OS X Yosemite 10.10.1). Any ideas on a fix?

Do an SMC and PRAM reset.

  • Intel iMac 17"s slow - even after SU and firmware update

Just got 3 Intel iMacs (w/512MB RAM) to upgrade 3 users at my company, and have found basic startup (and later, opening apps) to be cripplingly slow. I have already:
    Run Software Update;
    Run the EFI Firmware update;
    Repaired permissions;
Run Repair Disk vis "fsck -fy" from the console...
The only things I have not messed with are the USB peripherals.
    Any ideas?

If you have the 17" iMacs with the 1.83 GHz chip you don't really even have 512MB of RAM. That model shares RAM with the video chip, which uses a minimum of 80 MB. Leaving only 432 MB, at most, for the Mac OS and any software you are running.
If you are seeing the spinning beachball of death you don't have enough physical RAM and the Mac is using virtual memory and constantly accessing the hard drive. You won't be happy until you have a minimum of 1 GB.
    Get more RAM.

    Hello,
I've had my headset for almost a year, and I love it. I heard something about a firmware, and decided to install it. Under the download I was talking with my friends on skype and suddenly all my sound went out, and I wasn't able to turn on my headset again. There's no lights or anything in my headset now, the wireless transmitter works fine but it doesn't connect to my headset. I wish I didn't download this firmware . What can I do?

Same thing has happened to me. Bricked my headset. Device manager places it under "Human Interface Devices", "USB Input Device Properties."
Under details tab, under "Bus reported device description", is listed "Avnera AV6302".
I've removed the device from device manager, unplugged it, restarted computer, plugged it back in, and it installs in the same place.
It appears the the receiver is detected properly and will light up. Headset is completely dark with no indication of charging, connection, etc. Very frustrated as I just bought this unit and was doing the initial install and driver updates. Now I cant use it at all!
I've sent my request for support via the website and also got the 2 day minimum response email back.

Update: After letting the headset sit all weekend with it plugged in, but the computer off, I turned on the computer this morning and noticed that the power light was blinking. I then tried the headset update, and it worked! There is another post on this issue as well: http://forums.creative.com/showthread.php?t=699394

  • Please help -- Edge E545 bricked after flashing bios (firmware)

    Hi Folks,
I just bricked my Thinkpad Edge E545 while attempting to update the BIOS from 1.09 to 1.12. I tried to use a bootable CD, and it seemed to go well, but when it seemed to be done, I got contradictory instructions to either remove the CD and power off or leave the CD in and reboot. I left the CD in the drive and pressed ENTER. The screen went blank, and stayed that way, with no discernable activity. At some point I held the power button to shut it off. That was the last I saw anything on the screen.
Anyhow, I tried to use the T400 procedure below to prepare a bootable USB stick with the firmware to flash on it. (In the meantime I have learned that this is the "phoenix crisis disk" procedure).
The utilities I got here: http://www.staff.uni-marburg.de/%7Eschmitzr/T43_recovery.zip
    stick preparation (on Win2008R2 system):
    1) zero'd a USB stick (2GB)
    2) used WINCRIS.EXE to format the stick (pointed it at the v1.12 "BIOS.WPH")
    3) unplugged and replugged stick
    4) copied MINIDOS.SYS, PHLASH16.EXE and BIOS.WPH to the top directory of the new filesystem on the stick
    5) "safefly removed" the stick
    reflashing:
    1) disconnected battery and power cable
    2) plugged in stick (tried all 4 USB jacks, 2x full and 2x SS)
    3) pressed and held FN and B keys (also tried FN+R, FN+ESC)
    4) plugged in power
    5) pressed power button
none of the above had any observable effect. The USB stick is never accessed. I even tried disconnecting the CMOS battery before an attempt -- no change.
Does anyone have a hint about how to reflash trashed firmware on this laptop? This laptop has UEFI firmware -- maybe it's simply not possible to perform a crisis recovery?
    cheers,
    Rob

    edgardcafe,
I take it that you sent your T135D to the repair Depot, and maybe it was sent before you saw my last message?  It may have been possible to continue using the laptop off of battery power, but only until that existing charge was depleted.
As the Support Bulletin you referenced explains, "should the BIOS determine that a harness failure is occurring, external power will immediately be disabled eliminating the possibility of the over heating.  You will then need to contact the Toshiba call center to set up a warranty repair."  If that's what has occurred here then the BIOS is doing what it was designed to do in order to eliminate the risk of damage or injury.
Depot repairs typically take 7-10 days so that's a reasonable expectation for how fast you're likely to get your laptop back, but no one here in the forums can guarantee a repair time for any specific case or expedite general repairs.  I understand that it's a inconvenience but better safe than sorry.
    Regards,
    Jim

  • IPhone 4 bricked after 7.0.6 update, anyone else have this issue?

During the update to 7.0.6 the iPhone 4 failed to apply the update and booted up in restore mode.  When restoring the iPhone fails during the hardware firmware write and displays an "unknown error" Error 12.  It happens on multiple computers and versions OSX, including the latest version of Mavericks.  Apple support walked through after everything I tried failed and proceded to tell me that the the phone is broken and must be sent in for repair at a cost of $149.  So, unwilling to take responsibility for an update breaking a phone that was working perfectly before 7.0.6 update, that is how Apple's newest security patch bricked one of my phones.  Beware with the install!
I was wondering if this was common with others or not?  Have you had a similar issue, let me know?

Sometimes a hardware issue becomes apparent after a software update, and sometimes its pure coincidence. Most peoples updates will have gone well, forums show the small minority that dont unfortumnately. My 5s and my wifes 5c both worked fine for instance, even though thats no good for you, i'm just saying its not all phones and there is always a flurry of these incidents after software updates. Contact Apple and via the help line, if you have an extended warrranty as you say your phone is 1.5 years old. If there is an issue they will ask you to send your phone in, and an exchange can be made if you live to far from your nearest Apple shop possibly. If you are out of warranty then you can do an out of warranty replacement. As to it being a software issue, have you done a DFU mode restore? Hope it works out.

  • Sound Blaster Tactic3D Rage Wireless Firmware update fail

    Hey guys,
As the title says, I have a bit of a problem. I just bought the Tactic3d Rage Wireless headset, and decided to update the firmware as I like to have the latest drivers when I get started on new hardware. So I update the transmitter while the headset was turned off. No problem.
Then when it came to the headset I removed the transmitter and plugged the headset directly to the computer and started the appropriate application. At the end of the upgrade it said it failed to load the system after the new drivers was installed or something similar, and now it's just there flashing blue all the time. It doesn't respond to anything, and if I try upgrading the firmware again it says it can't find the headset.
So I'm wondering A) Did I do something wrog here? and B) How do I fix it? Is there a way to restore the factory settings of the headset somehow?
Please help! Thank you in advance.
