LaserWriter 12/640PS Leopard compatible?

Hi there,
I've been offered a LaserWriter 12/640 PS and want to know if it's Leopard compatible. Also, if anyone has one of these beasts and knows of a third-party compatible toner cartridge, you'd be doing me a favour!
Many thanks in advance for your help.
All the best,
Dan

I don't know if it is compatible, I have been unable to access the page to print multiple copies, set pages to print first or last or select single pages in documents to print. I miss these features. I will go back to 10.4 if I cannot solve this issue. I am forced to print documents singly and in their entirety. Does anyone know of a fix? Otherwise, it prints fine on my ethernet network.

  • Does Apple have a web download of Snow-Leopard compatible QuickTIme 7?

I installed Snow LEopard onto my MacBook Pro 15" on Friday at work. I left the Snow Leopard install disc there, and now at home I realize I did not install QuickTime 7 and I need this to be able to work proficiently in FCP.
I keep reading that you can download QuickTime 7 at Apple bit every time I try and install after download it says that it is not compatible with this OS.
Does Apple have a Snow Leopard compatible version of QuickTime 7 available as a download? Or am I screwed and have to wait until Tuesday to get to wotk and install from the disc? Why does it have to be so difficult?
    Dan

There's also an installer on the "Utilities" or "additional components" installer on the Snow Leopard disc.

  • Another dual-SATA Firewire 400/800 case that is Leopard compatible?

Looks like OWC is out of stock for 9 days, and I need to get one sooner than that. I'm look for a non-RAID configuration allowing me to have two 500 GB SATA hard drives which I already have and place them inside a single case that has both Firewire 800 and 400 support? Any recommendations which are Leopard compatible? I'd prefer to spend under $200 USD.

  • How to set an IP address on my LaserWriter 12/640PS

As many others I am struggling to make my trustworthy LaserWriter 12/640PS work under MacOS 10.6 as the latter has dropped AppleTalk.
I read connection is possible via LPD but obviously an IP address must be assigned to the printer.
However, how does one get the printer's current IP address? A configuration page is not printed. I cannot connect at all to the printer via telnet since I do not have it's IP address. I cannot change it either because I don't know the original one.
Moreover, in order to print the configuration page it seems one must use the old MacOS 9 printer utility, which requires MacOS 9 but which cannot be installed on my MacBook Pro or PowerBook G4 as Classic is no longer supported. Or one could use the Unix printer utility, but to access that one and to print the configuration page, one needs ... the printer's IP address...
This sounds like a catch-22 situation, which I am unable to break. Could anyone suggest me how to proceed?
To add insult to injury, the Apple LaserWriter 12/640PS works happily with Windows...
    Thanks.

Look in the printer's user manual for instructions on using TCP/IP (Ethernet.) The printer will have to connect to your network via an Ethernet port. If I remember correctly those old printers only have an AppleTalk serial port, so you will need an adaptor. They were called PhoneNet adaptors. I have no idea where you might find one today. They have a serial port connection on one end and an Ethernet connection on the other.
Unfortunately, I don't know that the printer will work unless you can turn on AppleTalk, and SL no longer supports it. If that's the case then you need a different type of adaptor - one that actively converts from AppleTalk to Ethernet. They were once made by Asante and Farallon, and they sold for around $100. But they are no longer made.

  • Recommendations for Leopard compatible dial-up ISP's

I can send text, but am unable to send all but the smallest (less than 50kb) attachments to emails before getting the "Unable to connect to SMTP server'' message. Netzero is the dial-up ISP, and I have used the service for years on a PC with no problems. There were no problems when using Tiger last November. This appeared as a problem after upgrade to Leopard. Do other dial-up ISP's have this problem with Leopard? Recommendations for dial-up ISP's that are Leopard compatible will be greatly appreciated.

    Hi,
Have used Earthlink dialup for years (through Panther, Tiger, Leopard, etc.)
For email, Have both Earthlink account and Gmail account.
When using Apple's Mail, difficulties sending large attachments via Gmail account.
    Not so with Earthlink account.
When using either Earthlink account or Gmail account to send an attachment directly (not using Apple's Mail), both send an attachment fine.
Note: Dialup (using an Apple External Modem on a MacBook Pro) worked fine over the years until latest Leopard 10.5.2 upgrade. Computer freezes during dialup (cursor freezes).
This is not an Earthlink issue; see all the forms about internet connection problems (both dial up and wireless) since the 10.5.2 upgrade.
Until the connection issues are sorted out, I would stop at Leopard 10.5.1.

  • Release Date for Leopard-Compatible ProTools? Help Please!

    Hey,
I think this was the best forum to post this in. :$
I have a Yahama Motif 7 Keyboard ( USB & MIDI Outputs ) connected via MIDI to a Digidesign Driver, which is then connected to my computer via FireWire cable. Logic Studio cannot recognize my Digi002 Driver, and I know this is because I lack ProTools AudioCore Recognition ( or something like that :P ) software.
Does anyone know the expected release date of the version of ProTools that will be compatible with Leopard? Would the hassle to reverting my computer back to Tiger be less than waiting for the new ProTools to come out?
Thanks for any help you can give me.

I have just upgraded in a quantum leap from a Quicksilver Mac to a Quad Core 3ghz Mac Pro, and swapped out my MBox 2 for a Factory 003. Despite promises to the contrary, the Mac Pro came without Tiger install disks, which I knew I would need. Just Leopard disks and the beast pre-installed. Looks great but of course my Pro Tools 7.3 install failed. I tried the tips to install that were on the digidesign and Mac forums, and still no joy. Apple Care... well, cared and I am now waiting for OEM Tiger 10.4.8 to arrive so I can do a clean erase and install. Hopefully this will then leave me able to plug in the 003 and start having a great deal of fun Apple Care has sworn blind and on pain of spam that the install will work, and that the firmware has not changed since they were shipping the Mac Pro with both Tiger and Leopard install disks. Here's hoping, 'cos I hear not a whisper about Leopard-compatible Pro Tools...

  • Snow Leopard compatible printers/scanners

Here's a great Apple support document that lists Snow Leopard compatible printers and scanners. Of course it's the drivers that need to be Snow Leopard compatible, not the printers themselves.

Not having any luck here with the UFRII drivers on the Canon Australia website here to install the IRC4058i printer in my office (btw the download url is http://www.service.canon.com.au/drivers/files/ir/osxufr2v200.zip). After uninstalling the old version and installing the new one, I can only install Canon ipv6 UFRII and not Canon ip UFRII, which is what I need. Hopefully an update will be released soon!

  • What are some good Plugin packages for Logic - must be Leopard Compatible

I'm new to Logic, heck, Mac in general. On my PeeCee I used Nuendo v.1 and had the Waves Diamond Bundle. I'm looking for something with comparable abilities that's Leopard compatible. Also, I really can't afford the Waves stuff at this point, price is a HUGE consideration for me.
I'm seriously considering going to Logic Studio (use Express right now) to gain the multitude of instruments and Plugins. In your experience, are the plugins included in Logic Studio good enough that I'd get what I need using them and not have to find another package (for the time being at least)?
Thanks in advance for your help!

There aren't any classes in the API to do that, but there are 3rd party libraries that can do that. Just google.

  • Synthogy Ivory updated to 1.7 - now Leopard compatible

Good news for us Ivory users. It's now Leopard compatible.
If, like me, you've had problems with installation, there's a fix (install app) available at:
    http://www.synthogy.com/pages/download_leopard.html
FYI, they are now using iLok for authorization so an iLok account/key is needed.

    Then you need 10.6.

  • In need of a Snow Leopard compatible version of Aperture via AppStore

    Hi there!!
A few months ago I bought Aperture 3 via AppStore using Snow Leopard.
Last week I formatted my iMac and installed everything again.
The process was smooth as I imagined, except for the fact that I wasn't able to download Aperture from the AppStore again as the current version doesn't seem to be compatible with my operating system...
...how can I download and use an older version of Aperture compatible with Snow Leopard?
I read somewhere that if I download the correct version from the website I won't be able to use it as I bought it via AppStore, while the downloadable version seems to need a code of some kind that is only given while buying the program throught the website (and NOT the AppStore...)!!

  • Personal Laserwriter NTR and Leopard

I would really like to use my laserwriter with Leopard, but I can't seem to get it going. I have an asantetalk so I would be connecting the printer to the computer via the ethernet port. Is there any place that has step-by-step instructions in how to do this? I know the printer driver came with Leopard, but when I click add printer it shows up in the list but then when I try to print it prints to my Lexmark C510 laser printer. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thank you in advance! Cindy

    Craig-
You are correct that Mac OS X does not come with a Postscript Rasterizer. But a Postscript level 2 printer does not need one (older printers like the ImageWriter certainly do). The computer sends postscript level 2 directly to the printer, and as long as the printer is level 2 or better, the printer rasterizes and images the pages itself without issue.
Using the asantetalk, the biggest issue is that the asantetalk does not re-acquire printers that disappear for any reason. I think the Farallon adapter is slightly better at this issue, but it sometimes has the same problem. The solution, described in the asantetalk documentation, is to guarantee that the asantetalk is powered up LAST, when everything else is stable and running.
So turn on the computer, turn on the printer, wait for the printer self-test lights to stop blinking, wait a little longer, then power up the asantetalk.
The phone cord you use must have all four conductors present. Sometimes you find one with only two. Check the plug for four brassy connector pins.
There is one more obscure issue that sometimes comes up with PhoneNet connectors. There should be something plugged into every phone jack. Where there is no cord to connect to the next device, there should be a "phone-jack mounted terminating resistor", a 120 Ohm resistor crimped into the outer pins on a phone plug. Genuine farallon ones had the resistor looped through a nylon washer.
To make a terminating resistor by hand, buy a surface mount wall jack with modular jack, a phone cord, and a 120 Ohm resistor. Connect the 120 Ohm resistor across the outer (Yellow and Black) lugs inside the wall jack. Plug it all together and you should be working great.

  • Is snow leopard compatible with ipad mini?

Hello I need to know if snow leapard is compatible with the ipad mini

In that case, I suppose that you were asking if you can sync your device. The iPad mini requires iTunes 10.7 or later, version that Snow Leopard supports, so you can sync the iPad. Open  > Software Update, and install the most recent version. Also, make sure you are running iTunes 10.7 or the most recent iTunes 11

  • Snow Leopard compatible?

I worked on an iMovie 09 project yesterday and upgraded to 10.6 last night. Today, I launch iMovie and get the warning: "Quartz Extreme required. iMovie requires a graphics card that is compatible with Quartz Extreme. One or more of your graphics cards does not support Quartz Extreme." Anyone else have this issue?

There was a similar issue with Leopard, so here is a solution worth trying, although I don't know for sure that it will work with Snow Leopard:
    Open System Preferences/Displays
Change Resolution to some different resolution.
Change the Color Profile to some other Profile.
Then change both back to the settings you prefer.
Then open iMovie and see if it helped.
Also, is there anything unusual about your setup such as a second or third monitor?
