  • Polygonal Lasso tool issues in newly installed Photoshop CS6 on IOS X Lion 10.7.4

I'm using a new install of Photoshop CS6 (via creative cloud) on a new iMac and getting superb performance aside from constant issues with the polygonal lasso tool.
All the other variants of the tool work fine without fault, but when using the polygonal selection , either the first 'point' won't register or subsequent 2nd or 3rd points won't register, causing photoshop to hang for a second then fill the marquee incorrectly.
I'm using a magic mouse and also tested it with a USB Logitech but still getting the same issue.
3.4ghz Intel Core i7 Quad core iMac
    16GB Ram
OS & Photoshop on a SSD
    Scratch Disk 1TB internal HD
    2GB Video Card
    IOS X Lion 10.7.4
    ... latest OS update
    ... latest photoshop update
    Any help much appreciated ...

    same here!
very unpredictable behavior from polygonal lasso tool with apple magic mouse and fresh wacom intuos 5 large.
work on imac 27" i5 late 2013 with 32GB RAM and mac pro 2006 with 16GB RAM
    - can observe unsteady and unpredictable behavior of the polygonal lasso tool
in 10.7, 10.8 and 10.9 meaning it wont react on my click and "hang"
or suddenly fill the lasso selection as complete, when i just do a simple click.
    - can reproduce this behavior with my apple magic mouse over usb, wireless and
more frequently with my wacom intuos 4 and 5 over usb.
    - even on my latest imac 2013, newly installed only photoshop cs5 and cs6, i can reproduce much more strange behavior fo this tool ever: the first point/click won't register at all, it feels like the polygonal lasso tool hangs and waits and nothing happens. i click on another tool, click back on poly.lasso and try again. after the second attempt, after seconds of waiting, the third click always fills the selection as completed, although i am not finished with my selection at all
    any idea why?
love working with polygonal lasso, although it reacts very unstable and unpredictable since years and versions !!

  • Grab Tool Issue with CS4 crimping Workflow, Solution?

Hi, I've been a consistent Photoshop user for the past 10 years and have upgraded to CS4 about 9 months ago.
I have an issue where I can't (spacebar-> grab tool) to move my image around without zooming in first.  If the side of the image is not being clipped by the window your working in the grab tool will not work.  I haven't found a way to turn this off.
I figured I would get used to this but I'm still running into it every day. Instead I've noticed myself just automatically pulling the window off the top bar and grabbing the edge to shrink it so I can actually move myself around.
I see no possible reason why they changed the functionality of the grab tool...unless they assume that every photoshop user has two monitors, one for pallettes and one for the working image?  Even then why would they have collapsible pallettes?
It is THE most frustrating things I've ever experienced since I've used photoshop.
Is there a setting or option that I'm missing?

Thanks Mylenium, I hope your not right!  But you probably are...  I've asked everyone at work what they do about it and most don't use spacebar as a shortcut so it hasn't been much of an issue for them, though they do all admit they grab windows off the top bar right away and move pallettes/windows with their mouse when needed, but that's just a supream waste of time and effort when you can just quickly spacebar grab and throw.  Plus I like keeping my pallettes in the same places so I know where to look when working.
My other friend whos employed elsewhere has the same problem as me and actually went back to CS3 because he couldn't use his spacebar shortcut the same way.

  • Polygonal lasso tool problem in cs4

I just discovered this problem now using my MacBook Pro.
For example, when i am tracing a shape on an image, to then fill with a colour on a new layer, I will trace the triangle (for example) and when I close the shape, it will add all these other lasso boxes and shapes around it and sometimes in it, so when I go to fill the triangle, it fills in all these other shapes, and cuts into my triangle... its frustrating the hell out of me!
    what is going on!!
i have posted a photo along with is... as you can see the shapes in the area that im trying to trace (yellow triangle)

    First, update to Photoshop 11.0.1.
Then, if it's still happening, try disabling OpenGL drawing in preferences.
If it's still happening after that I'd suspect a third party plugin is corrupting memory, or you have bad RAM.

  • CS4 Lasso Tool and Content Aware Fill

I saw this performed by Moose Petersen to duplicate
and fill an area to expand an image. He used the Lasso tool to enclose the area (now vacant) that he wanted to fill with the exact contents on the edge of the image.
I have been unable to reconstruct his process.
Can someone offer step by step help to accomplish this? Wish to fill the right side to make size 16x20.
    Thanks!
    Dan

Here, I'll be a bit more specific.  Do things in exactly this order:
    >1. Make the image a layer (not Background).
To do this, make the LAYERS panel visible, hold down the Alt key, and double-click the Background.  It should become Layer 0.  If it is not the Background to start with, you can skip this step.
    >2. Increase the canvas size to 16 x 20 ratio, opening new space on the right.
Image - Image Size, UNcheck Resample Image, and make the image 20 inches tall.  Then Choose Image - Canvas Size, and expand to the right as follows:
    >3. Do a rectangular selection excluding most of the red parts.
You should have, at this point, an image with some checkerboard showing on the right side.  Choose the Rectangular Marquee tool as I noted above in post 5 and drag it around the area shown in post 1, including a few of the red parts.
    >4. Edit - Content Aware Scale and drag the right edge handle to fill the canvas.
Click Edit - Content Aware Scale from the menu.  You'll get a set of little square handles all around the portion of the image that you selected.  Grab the one at the right edge and pull to the right, as shown here:
    >5. Touch up (e.g., lightly blur) any edges that have become noisy because of the operation.
After the Content Aware Scale operation, I saw that the flower petal edge was a bit rough looking, so I thought it might be a good idea to select the Blur tool and brush over the edge lightly.

  • What happened to Alt + Scroll Wheel Zooming while using Polygonal Lasso Tool?

My issue is that when I am working with the Polygonal Lasso tool I am no longer able to use Alt + Mouse Scroll wheel to zoom in and out while making my selection. I have found other ways to zoom in/out, but none are as efficient and fast as the method I just described. I used this function in previous versions of Photoshop and can’t imagine why Adobe would remove it from CS6. Is there a way to re-activate this function?

Were you using a mac (works in photoshop cs4 on a mac) before or which photoshop version on a windows system did that work?
Anyway on windows you could press the spacebar and alt or ctrl and click on the screen to zoom.

  • Free Transform issue with CS4

So as I've been using CS4 of Photoshop, when I select something with the Lasso tool and use Free Transform to move it around, it automatically creates a copy of whatever I selected to move while the original thing is still in place. This happens randomly. Sometimes it does; sometimes it doesn't. Da hell, bro?

Lasso - Right Click - Free Transform
It didn't do it this time. I swear it's random

  • About Using Magnetic Lasso Tool In Photoshop CS3 Extended

    Hi All
I seem to be having a problem using the Magnetic Lasso Tool In Photoshop CS3 Extended as when I get half way around an egales beak zoomed in at 66.67% and start to single click around the tight corners the photo is covered over with a white background and the palettes to the right of the Photo e.g. layers, channels, paths becomes white to and all you can see is the paths that the Magnetic Lasso Tool has made around the beak until you click any key on the keyboard but the annoying thing about doing that is that the path automatically becomes selected there for I am unable to draw the paths around the rest of the beak does anyone know of a patch of some kind that will correct this error?
Many Thanks For Reading This And May Be Replying To it.
    All The Best. Regards,
    Oliver
P.S I have downloaded and installed all of the updates for all Adobe and Adobe CS3 Software.

    Oliver,
We have the same exact issue here with the Polygonal Lasso tool. Get anywhere from 20-80% around an object and it hiccups once and then locks up for a moment causing you to loose whatever you've been selecting.
Symptoms include toolbars and palettes turning white and screen freezing for a moment.
Is there an official word on this from Adobe? Or better yet, a solution?
    Thanks,
    George

  • Any solutions to polygonal lasso tool that does not conform to selection?

In PhotoShop, CS4, the polygonal lasso tool does not conform to the selection when it is closed but creates a curvy almost circle segment.

Thanks for your reply - the polygonal lasso tool outlines the profiles below to remove the backround.

  • Polygonal Lasso Tool problem report

Hi, After I have updated my MAC OS X Mavericks this morning my Polygonal Lasso tool started to work funny, it jumps and auto closes, I can't use it anymore. Before that I never had any problem with the polygonal lasso tool and was able to cut any shape with it. I tried to updated my photoshop to the latest version but it didnt help. Any idea if this has something to do with the latest OS X? If so, is there anything I can do to get my polygonal lasso tool work again? Thanks!

I was having the same issue and I just installed the plug-in which seems to have solved the problem.
In Photoshop CC on a brand new iMac running OS 10.9.2, the polygon lasso tool wasn't responding properly and when using brushes the program would randomly freeze. These were only a problem when I was using my Wacom Intous 4 tablet, when using the standard Apple mouse the brushes and lasso worked fine. Both issues seem to be ok after installing the plug-in and the tablet seems to be working ok. Thanks Adobe

  • My Polygonal Lasso Tool does not work anymore

I have Adobe CS4 for macs. Just today, everytime I enclose an area with my polygonal lasso tool, it stopped closing the area and instead gives me the message "No pixels are more than 50% selected. The selected edges will not be visible." I must have accidentally pressed something by mistake that makes the lasso tool not work anymore but I don't knoow what. Any suggestions on how to fix it? Or do I need to reset photoshop? Any ways to reset it? I tried holding option, command shift but it still did not reset my photoshop to its original settings.I also rebooted my computer several times with no success. Thank you for any help you guys can give.

When you try to reset the preferences you need to keep holding down the Shift+Cmd+Option keys even after starting photoshop until you get a dialog similar to below:
(resetting the cs4 preferences should have set the feather to 0 px)

  • Why after the last Photoshop CC Update the Lasso Tool not more have the Backspace step backward -Fun

Why after the last Photoshop CC Update the Lasso -Tools not more have the Backspace-last-point-step-backward -Funktion?? This is terrible!!
So i can not work more. Please change immediately with a next update!! Please..

    Good day!
This is a user to user Forum, so you are not really addressing Adobe here, even though some Adobe employees thankfully have been dropping by.
Also I can not reproduce the issue you claim to have with 14.2 on Mac OS 10.8.5.
    What is your OS?

  • Polygonal lasso tool weirdness

When you use the polygonal lasso tool the scrollwheel no longer works. How is it possible that something so basic got overlooked. When making selections with that tool you scroll all the time!

You are completely right and I apologize for the oversight.
I am working on a MacPro 2x3 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon (this is actually 8 cores) with 9 Gb RAM and MacOSX 10.6.3
The version of Photoshop is the latest one from CS5
It does make a difference, because the previous version from CS4 on exactly the same computer works perfect.
    Thanks, Bob.

  • Polygon Lasso Tool Closes Selection at Random

I am experiencing the same Polygon Lasso glitch that has been brought up by several others; however, I haven't seen a solution.  I'm posting again JUST IN CASE someone new sees this and can share how they may have overcome this frustrating issue.
Here’s the problem: Polygon Lasso decides to close the selection FOR NO REASON AT RANDOM.
Let me clarify that I am an advanced Photoshop user (certified expert by Adobe).  I know all Photoshop tools inside and out and this is DEFINITELY not user error. Photoshop CC is glitching and it needs to be fixed.  Thing is, this only started for me very recently; within the last few weeks.  (Kinda close to when I updated to Mavericks on my mac but I’m not sure that has anything to do with it)
To re-iterate, this is NOT a double-clicking issue or anything done wrong by me. Making lots of small lassos joined by the shift key is also NOT a solution.  Switching to the pen tool is also NOT a solution because my workflow depends on the speed of the lasso tool.
The real reason why I’m bringing this up is mostly because, like I said, this is only a recent problem.  Was there just an update to Photoshop CC that would have caused this? It’s driving me crazy and putting a serious hiccup in my workday since the polygon lasso is such a key tool.

Nope, haven´t heard anything. I´m guessing (hoping) adobe has it on its list of "stuff they are looking into". At least that´s pretty much my only hope - though I´m suspecting this as well as the keyboard problems probably has others to blame. But, contacting Apple for anything like this feels completely hopeless. And Wacom just doesn´t care and just plays the blaming card....So, let´s hope we´ll hear something from Adobe soon, and they can point the others in the right direction.
Just some personal impressions, a bit off topic:
I have a feeling that Mavericks are full of problems and Apple is only fixing minor stuff and doesn´t seem to understand or are aware of the major stuff (not that I know how to make them care either). Because as it is right now, it seems installing Mavericks gives you a lot less optimized machine - except for battery (if you have a laptop) and apart from that it only gives you a few minor OS features that are barely anything to speak of. But in general, my machine got out of ram more quickly, I noticed hickups all over the place. F.example in games, like League of Legends, there were interwals of stuttering, as if the machine was overloaded or something - and don´t get me started on the problems in Photoshop . And a couple of times my machine crashed because ram usage boiled over. And that is with 32 GB of ram (!!) and a maxed out top of the line late 2012 iMac. After I reverted to Mountain Lion, it felt like installing a new operating system. Everything was smooth and I feel I can throw everything I want at the machine again and it will handle it with ease. I recently worked on an image that had about 100 layers and a resolution of 75.000 pixels width - I can only imagine how Mavericks would completely explode my machines ram on that. Sadly though Mavericks is suppose to be an upgrade and eventually I will have to catch up - as Apple is all ready making new updates to their suites working only on Mavericks...but right now it brings very little to the table except problems and frustration...unless you are dependent on battery lifetime I can´t see what you really gain from it.
