Last 10 seconds of video won't burn to DVD

here is the process I'm using to burn my DVD... I'm using Mpeg-2 video and AC3 audio, and creating a disk image (.img) using DVDSP4. Then I'm burning using Disk Utility at 2x speed, because burning straight from DVDSP4 was giving me problems.
The problem is that the DVD will not go beyond 12 minutes and 22 seconds.
Originally, my video was that length, but then I realized that it didn't fade out at the end, so I went into Final Cut, added the fade, and then re-compressed the video and audio, made a new disk image, but for some reason the dvds I'm burning are still the same, it ends at 12min 22sec, with no fade. I'm sure that the mpeg is the complete video, because I watched it in quicktime, and when I simluate the disk in DVDSP4 it plays the complete video, but then when I burn it, the end is not there. any ideas why this would be happening?

When you go to 'Build & Format' in the dialogue box the second section is about the 'Source'. If you have already built this project once then DVDSP will fill in the details within that section for you, assuming that you want to re-use the same build, which saves time. However, you should specify a new folder there and let DVDSP re-create this from scratch if you are having problems.

  • Exporting video/movies to burn to DVD

Trying to figure out how to export videos/movies to a compatable DVD. Currently the videos/movies play through Quicktime player that are in my iPhoto library. When I select the videos I want to export the iDVD option along with the Export option goes away. Tried to select burn disc and all it did was burn the first frame of every video and nothing more. You're better off by creating a data DVD through the Finder or elsewhere than attempting to use iDVD or similar software to create a video DVD. Locate the video files in the Finder and burn them as you would any other file.

  • How do I mute the sound from the video camera when burning a DVD

Hi there.  I'm a new user of Elements 8.  I have compiled some clips and added a soundtrack to the movie,  When you preview the file you don't hear the sound from the video camera but when I burn it to a DVD you still hear the video background.  How do I burn the DVD without the background sound from the video camera?  On the DVD I only want to hear the soundtrack I added.
    Thank you,
    Doug

Thanks guys.  Both options worked.  Dowside to deleting audio (option I went with) appears to be that you lose the audio forever.  So if I ever wanted to bring the audio back I wouldn't be able to.
You are partially correct in that the Audio is no longer on your Timeline. It is still in your Project Panel, and you can move it back to your Timeline if ever needed. The complete removal from the Timeline is why I work with the Audio Mixer in cases like this. Also, on could alter the Gain on a Clip by Clip basis.
With using the audio mixer it appeared I had to mute each clip separately.  When I highlighted all the clips and selected mute for audio 1 it wouldn't mute all of the selected clips.
The Audio Mixer works at the Track-level, and not at the Clip-level. That is why I use it so often - one click, or slider adjustment affects the entire chosen Track. If it did not work at a Track-level for you, something is wrong. Now, if one has Clips on different Tracks, then Muting of all of those would be required, or one would have address things on a Clip-level basis.
Any way to use the audio mixer to mute the clips in mass?
See above for how it should work, and also the exceptions - Audio on several Audio Tracks.
Good luck, and remember that your Audio still resides in the Project Panel, should you ever need it again.

  • IMovie won't burn a DVD

Can anyone help me with a camcorder problem? I have just bought a canon 25i camcorder, mainly because it is compatible with mac and supposedly with iMovie/iDVD.
I am able to import DV tapes into iMovie, and get them into iDVD, but when I ask it to burn to disc it won't comply.
I am able to get roxio toast titanium to work, but this takes literally hours to 'encode' prior to burning.
My mac is a G4 iMac 1Ghz with 768mb ram. I am running the latest version of Panther.
Has anyone had similar problems and solved them, am I missing something simple?
    Thanks,
    John.

Duane,Well you are right iDVD 5 will burn to DVD-RW in accordance with this article; I just tried it on my TiBook. Reading the article you quote it says MacOS X supports DVD-R and that third party software is required for DVD-RW (although it does not state this explictly). I am 90% sure that before I upgraded from iDVD 3 that DVD-RW would not burn from iDVD directly I also recall it did not state a specific error but only continued to ask for a blank disc. I can remember this being a pain when I first flashed my Superdrives firmware as RW are great for trialing a disk before wasting DVD-Rs. Can anyone confirm?

  • Now my superdrive won't burn any DVDs. Can someone help please?

    Hi.
I mentioned earlier in the 'won't burn dvd' topic that my Superdrive wouldn't burn DVD-Rs, saying there was a fault in the burning and the multiplexing.
Now it's spitting out my DVD+Rs as well. As a film student at a college that likes DVD submissions, this is terribly inconvenient. The computer gets as far as encoding everything, then spits out the disc as the burning begins.
I have tried completely re-loading my system, but still have a problem. Is anyone else having this problem and can they help me. Time is of the essence!
    Many thanks.
PS. Check my post on 'won't burn dvds' for more info!

Ok. As an addendum, I reset the PRAM and PMU. I also repaired disk permissions. I can burn DVD+R again at 2.4x speed. When burning, DVD-R, however, it spits out the disk and states (when I try to burn on its stated maximum speed of 2x): 'Unable to burn to "disk3" - The device failed to calibrate the laser power for this media..'
I'm not sure what that implies beyond the obvious: is there some sort of power control issue I need to deal with on the system?

  • Iphoto library won't burn to DVD

I'm having problems burning my library to DVD. I'm using a iomega external DVD+/- burner. When I select the pictures i want to burn from the iphoto window, i get this error..."NO DEVICES ARE AVAILABLE FOR BURNING". I tried burning a DVD with another application and it worked fine so I'm assuming it's between iphoto and the burner. I have the latest patch burn installed as well. Any help would be greatly appreciated as this is the only way I can get my library on DVD with all the photo information and film rolls intact.
    Thanks.

Share ==> burn creates a mini iPhoto library only usable by iPhoto and includes multiple versions of each Photo so the disk requirements several times the sie of just the selected photos
the answer is to select all the photos in the album, export them (fil menu ==> export - see the user tip on exporting for details of the export options) to a desktop folder and use the finder to burn that folder to disk

  • DVD Studio Pro 4.0.2 won't burn my DVDs that I have always used

I am trying to burn a DVD in DVDSP 4.0.2 and it comes up with errors around the media being mismatched or incorrect, etc...  It is the same media I have always used with great success (I bought a lot of blank media).  It seems as though ever since I updated my OS to Leopard I have had issues with this same media... coming up with these errors. Would a newer OS make the media suddenly not work in the same DVD drive? Not sure what else it could be...
    Any thoughts?
Thanks for your help in advance

It may be worth getting the lend of an external drive to eliminate your hardware .. can you write DVD's data with any other software such as Toast or even using the OS to backup data to a DVD drive. How old are the blanks ..I once had a faulty batch of 100 a while back and it turned out they had been in the store for two years ..With that in mind try a new one not out of that batch .. All of this may be of no help but it is typical of the things I would try to attempt to narrow the field of suspects down a bit.

  • G5 Quad won't burn ANY DVD faster than 4x

I can't find a firmware update for the Pioneer DVR110D in my Mac. I never really paid much attention to how fast it was burning because it was only occasional use, but now I'm burning a lot of edited video, and it makes a big difference. I've tried Philips, Memorex, Sony, TDK, Ritek, Taiyo-Yuden and HP and can't get ANY of them to burn at the drive's rated speed. Some will only burn at 2x! Doesn't seem to matter if they're 4x, 8x or 16x. DL-DVDs only burn at 1x instead of 2.4. It's maddening.
If I'm making discs from images with Disk Utility all speed choices are grayed out, and I get what I get. Three consecutive discs off the stack may give me dupes at 1x, 2x and 4x.
There's a firmware update to 1.41 on Pioneer's site for the 110D, but it won't work on this drive. I've tried putting it in my PC, and it shows in Pioneer's drive identifier utility as a 110D, but the firmware update utility itself won't run because it says it can't find a compatible drive.
We had many problems with the Matsushita drives in our G5 iMacs not recognizing faster media, but a firmware upgrade at the Genius bar fixed those. Is there anything available for the Pioneer. The site only turns up two DVD firmware updates, neither of which applies to this drive.

    Hi yakkyakk-
It is quite possible the drive is simply dirty. You could try a lens cleaning kit. It is also possible that the drive is failing.
For any serious burning an external is the way to go. I always consider the internal drive for occasional use. If you want to upgrade the internal drive yourself it is quite easy and you can buy an internal drive for around 40 bucks.
    Luck-

  • IDVD Won't Burn Some DVDs

I bought some DVDs used and for some reason, they don't play well on my DVD player. I think it might be due to scratches. Anyways, they play fine on my computer so I ripped them onto my computer. Now I want to burn them onto DVDs but iDVD doesn't work for all of them. When I try burning I Love You, Man, it says there's an error building, which occurs at the burning stage. When I try to burn 13 Going On 30, it stops before anything even really starts.
    Help, please!

Ripping DVDs or making copies, for whatever reason, goes against copyright laws and is illegal.
From the Apple Discussions Terms of Use:
8.2: Do not submit software or descriptions of processes that break or otherwise ‘work around’ digital rights management software or hardware. This includes conversations about ‘ripping’ DVDs or working around FairPlay software used on the iTunes Store.
I'd recommend that you either buy new copies of the DVDs in question or find a store near you that advertises the ability to "fix" broken DVDs.

  • Video won't play in DVD Studio Pro, works in QT

I cannot get a m2v file to work in DVD studio pro. I compressed to Best Quality 120 min from FCP and opened up the DVD studio file and inserted both the m2v and ac3 files from Compression when it was finished. I can hear the audio but the video is just black. The video plays in the finder and in Quicktime Pro. I saved these two compression files over previous files because I was just updating the video and wanted to use the same DVD studio pro file I had already designed. I am re-compressing as I type this but if it still doesn't work I am at a loss of what to do!

Does the m2v asset preview in DVDSP? If it does you may need to rebuild the track that it's in.

  • Optical drive won't burn DL dvd's

I dunno. It used to be more reliable before..... Optiarc stock dvd drive. says it can burn DVD+R DL, which I have a spindle of  right now (Verbatim Brand) . I've tried using "Burn" which worked for me before, and I start it up, put in the blank disc, and it just sits there and tells me it can't find a disc. Even just putting the disc in, should, hopefully, get some kinda reaction from my Mac Pro, but nothing. The OS is 10.7.5. with 6 Gigs of Ram, as far as I know, Burn is the latest version....
and Verbatim worked for me before...Haven't a clue at the moment. Funny thing though, when I used to click on "About this mac'  then "Storage", then the name and model # of the drive would come up, as well at what it would burn. Now it just says "Superdrive" and what it would burn. Weird, eh?
    thanks for any help
    John B

I can hear a scratching sound, like someone is scratching the disc with a needle.
The drive's head may be out of alignment.
Have it examined by a technician.

  • DVD / CD's won't burn in finder

    SONY DVD RW DW-U10A
First: It doesn't acknowledge I've put a DVD in. Nothing. It keeps asking me to insert a disk.
Second: CD's won't burn in finder. They start for a couple of seconds and then they are rejected saying it's a "Power calibration area error 0x8002006D The device failed to calibrate the laser power level for this media."
    - I can't find anything on that error code from Apple or Sony. I assume it can't read the disc for some reason and try a (2) cleaning discs. That didn't work.
    - Disc utitilty says all my permissions are fine and I've got the disc space.
    - I try different brands of discs - nope again (Sony, Maxell, Verbitim).
    - Then I deleted the plist, rebooted. Not it either.
    - Followed that with Onyx, deleted plist & rebooted again. Now I have to turn the power off to get it to reject. I can't delete 'untitled CD.fpbf' folder either.
    - So then I try to burn a disc in ITunes and it works, but very slowly (4X).
    - I figure the drive is starting to give out and just before I buy a new one, I sign into a guest account and guess what? It burns perfectly from finder and fast.
Now, why would a guest account make a difference?
I have no idea what to try next.
    Thx for any suggestions.

    replying to mandelinjo
no problem. happens to a number of folks (especially people used to the earlier versions of iTunes that didn't have so many diagnostics options.)
okay ... i'd like you to check in with Dell to confirm precisely which kind of Dell you have. there's updates available for the 2400 and the 2400C, and the updates for one may not be compatible with the updates for another. i don't want you to be installing incompatible updates.
these are the two different download areas:
    Dimension 2400
    Dimension 2400C
you also appear to have three different drives showing up on the same bus address:
IDE\DiskWDCWD800BB-75CAA0_____________________16.06V16, Bus Type ATA, Bus Address [0,0]
IDE\CdRomHL-DT-STCD-ROM_GCR-8481B_______________1.06___, Bus Type ATA, Bus Address [0,0]
IDE\CdRomHL-DT-STCD-RW_GCE-8483B________________B105___, Bus Type ATA, Bus Address [1,0]
SCSI\CdRomVO0524SEYM602D________2.0B, Bus Type SCSI, Bus Address [0,0]
... so it might be worth investigating with Dell whether or not that could be an issue on the PC. (they would be the authority on shifting bus addresses on your model of PC, if that is what is called for.)

  • Really hard to beleive but a new imac won't burn home movies on DVD?

Hi bite the bullet and bought a brand new imac (paid two times the price of a really nice PC) in hopes of owning a computer that would solve all my PC issues. Now that I have it at home I down loaded my family snow board trip from my camera and found out that it won't burn it to a DVD. What? Called tech support and yes it is true imac won't burn a DVD unless you buy ilife $49 and install it. Even the cheapest PC will burn a DVD this is really disappionting.I did see some free third party software and thought about trying it but I really hate to risk adding unauthorized software to my brand new computer. Is there hope on the way in the form of free update or is this what I get? Other than this I have enjoyed using it but this is really a major deficiency and a real disappointment.

I purchased the iLife 11 retail disk (I've seen it for as little as $25 at Amazon) because, in my opinion, there is no equivalent for iDVD's capabilities of adding pzazz to customizable menus/themes - taking your efforts from amateur to professional looking presentations.
And, it is somewhat disappointing since iMovie still has a link to send your movie to iDVD and the idea of being able to produce movies including making DVDs is now being "replaced" by trying to get you to post all your content online (in the cloud). For anyone concerned with their privacy, that is not an option; neither is it for people who may not even have a computer, but would love to be able to see the event they participated in on their TV.
I'd buy the iLife suite and also send feedback to Apple:
