Last 70 MB on iPod Touch will not fill

I'm not sure if this started when I upgraded to iTunes 9 or Snow Leopard, but either way, this is really frustrating. Basically, when I try and sync my iPod Touch in iTunes, it will not use the last 70 MB of free space. For example, if my iPod has 75.6 MB free and I try and add 8 MB of music, I'll get an error saying "The iPod cannot be synced because there is not enough free space to hold all the items in the selected playlists (8 MB required, 5.6 MB available)". I've tried restoring my iPod, but no luck. This has been an issue for months now. Any ideas? I posted in a thread on this a while back (http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=10431705#10431705), but everyone else seemed to be as clueless as I was. Hopefully something's changed. I know this annoys you but your device is more than 99% full.
I'm still trying to find out where this "bug" complaint lies though... read the thread I linked and answer the question please.
- How much free space does the iPod itself report?
- How much free space does iTunes report for the iPod?
Yes, I suspect something was changed in the last software update but Apple probably figures that most people won't care about one fraction of one percent of inaccuracy.
Have you complained directly to Apple yet?

IPod Touch will not fill to capacity after iTunes 9 update

After updating iTunes to 9.0 my iPod touch will no longer fill to capacity. Although the capacity bar on the Summary screen shows about 80 MB free, I keep getting the error that there is not enough space to sync anything more. I have updated my firmware to 3.1.1 and the problem persists. A possibly related problem is that even if I leave like 200 mb free, the "Automatically fill free space with songs" feature does not seem to work - it just leaves the space empty.

I seem to be having the same problem as well, and it happened after i installed itunes 9. Supposedly, I would have about 90mb of free space on my ipod but when I try to sync a few photos or extra songs it will tell there's not enough available memory..that i only have 20mb. Before, I used to be able to fill my ipod completely. But now, it stops filling once it reaches 70mb remaining. I've read other instances in this forum of this happening to other people.
Even with the firmware update (9.0.1) I'm still experiencing the problem. hopefully Apple will come up with something to patch this up.

I just had a similar problem and tried all of the reboot techniques with no success. I knew it had to be a connection issue inside the iPod, and grasping at straws, I sprayed a little WD-40. I dried it off and let it sit overnight. Today at lunch I plugged it in to my wall charger and it began charging.
***FYI I know they don't recommend spraying WD-40 on your iPod, but it was a last resort for me. I was at the point of paying to send it in for repairs or throwing it away. I wouldn't try this unless you are ready to throw yours away too.

My 4th Generation iPod Touch Will Not Back-Up On iTunes

I have the newest version of iTunes and my iPod Touch is running iOS 6 and sometimes it won't sync or even be recongnized as a device. iTunes says my last back up was on August 27th, and I've synced it multiple times since then. It is critical that I find a solution soon, because if the last backup was on the 27th, that means the software backed up is 5.1.1, and I'm selling my current iPod on eBay and it ships next week as I await the new iPod Touch and I need to restore from that backup! I cannot start as a new iPod Touch. Any solutions?

My iphone 5 and 2 ipod touches will not show up on my itunes when i connect them to my laptop. I have tried different cables, restarted the mobile thing, uninstalled and reinstalled itunes, it is only on my laptop that has Windows 8. My dekstop with Windows 7 is fine will recognize them. This has been going on for over a week.. What is going on?

All songs play on the laptop windows 8. The second Ipod touch we have - all songs synch to it and play.
But the first Ipod touch we bought - only half (or so) of the songs synch. So I assume there is an issue with the newer Ipod touch. The songs not synching are songs I added to the library from CD's.

I have the same problem since a couple days ago, I will try to refrain from swearing or slagging on Apple, got a few questions for you, Gerbrandt, or anyone else who's had this problem and worked around it by means of a 3rd party app:
1-Since using panamp have you used your ipod in any docks successfully? (ex: I have a JVC car deck, a Klipsch dock and the Yamaha dock for my home theatre, all will be worthless if I can't resurrect my iPod as a music player)
2-Has using panamp done anything to help the original Apple music app to work or has it stayed dead?
3-Do you have any smart playlists? Like others with the 64GB model I have many many songs (that's the WHOLE point of the large capacity iPod, isn't it?) and I found that the more smart playlists I had the worse the apple music app behaved back when it was still working.
I'll check out panamp tonight, hopefully that will stop me from curb-stomping my iPod.
Anyone know whether an Apple "genius" has access to any sort of debugging facilities that would make it worth visiting the store for help on this matter? (ex: if they have root access to check for corrupt song database, or debug logs of some sort, or can do any direct manipulation of commands over the dock connector).
It sure would be nice to know why this happens, I have about 14,000 songs locked in iTunes now and many hours of time invested in ripping my CD collection but I don't want to buy a replacement iPod only to have this happen to it too. It's annoying enough the 4 hours it takes to resynch after a system restore (which in the end did nothing to resolve the original issue).

Try the following:
- A reset. Nothing is lost

My Ipod Touch will not turn on, recognize itunes and fully function. When it does, once in a blue moon, after 5 minutes it freezes. I am wondering if its becuase battery was left dead for 2 weeks or problems with the iOS. Resetting does not help.

The Apple logo will Appear and then Disappear...
Usually takes about 10 - 15 Seconds...
