Last access external hdd

Hello,
I have a WD-Ultra HDD that I recently formated as Mac OS Extended (journaled). If it's journaled, there shoud be a way to obtain the log of times the HDD was accessed. Finder, from what I can see, only gives time created and last modified. Is there a bash command to obtain what I want?
Thanks.

It makes sense in the context of our previous conversation. Having said this, you are right, I'm happy with an empty profile.

  • Time Capsule Crashing When Trying to Access External HDD

Hi, I have a MBP and an iMac backing up successfully to a 1TB Time Capsule. I recently bought a 1 TB WD My Book external HDD which I attached to the USB port of the Time Capsule to archive all my digital media so that the TC could be used exclusively for backups.
The external HDD showed up under Airport Utility as well as as a partition under Time Capsule in the finder. The problem is whenever I tried to access the HDD it would freeze and crash the Time capsule which needed to be rebooted and restarted to work again. The funny thing is that on occasion I actually got the disk to work and I copied a few files across but within like a couple of minutes the Time Capsule hung and I got messaged that the file server in the Time Capsule and the External HDD was disconnected. Reconnection was only possible by powering off and restarting.
    Any suggestions? Much appreciated.

    I have the same problem.
    My Setup:
    Time Capsule 500 GB
    15" MBP 1.83 GHz
WD 250 GB USB Drive (Powered)
I run Time Machine backups to TC. This works without any problems and very quick I might add.
My problem is when I try to copy files to and from the External USB Drive to my MBP. The files will start to copy, then I lose the connection to the USB drive and the TC (no Internet connection as well).
To get the TC to work again, I need to power it down and power it back up.
    Any help would be appreciated.

MacBook Pros don't run Mac OS 9.2.  They may run Mac OS X 10.9.2, but not Mac OS 9.2.  Mac OS 9.2 dates from 12 years ago.

  • Image Orientation Reset Accessing External HDD Images

I'm using Lightroom 2.1 on Windows XP. Ever since the later LR 1.x versions, I've been running into this problem.
I initially edit my images on my internal HDD, then I move them to my external once I'm done with them. The problem occurs when I go to the images (now on the external) in LR and all the vertical/portrait images (thumbs) revert to the horizontal/landscape orientation. When in LR and I go to the folder where they reside, the thumbs initially show in their proper rotated (vert/portrait) orientation, but then they automatically get turned back around to the incorrect initial/landscape orientation. When dealing with 10's of thousands of images, this grows VERY frustrating.
    Is this a common bug?
    Thank you.
    Seth

When I move the files to the external, I copy the folder in Explorer and paste it into the appropriate folder on the external. Yes, I then use 'locate missing folder' in LR. So therefore all the metadata and settings stay associated with the files. The files are mostly DNG, along with some JPEG and TIF.
Strangely enough, the rotation setting is the only one that gets reverted to the original setting. I make other changes to the files as well (saturation, clarity, tone, vignette, etc), and all of those hold their changed value correctly (as well as caption/title/location and other metadata). And since all these develop settings (incl rotation as I am led to believe) are saved in the LR '.lrcat' file (I DO NOT use .xmp sidecar files), it strikes me as very strange that only the rotation is reset.
The only files where the rotation is not reset are the TIF files that I have created by opening a DNG in PS to make other corrections. The reason being that the rotation setting is saved in the TIF file, not in the .lrcat settings file.
The reason I don't auto-rotate in the 5D is b/c I'd rather have to turn the camera, but see the files full screen on the camera. Would rather not change this if possible... hoping I can discover the issue in LR first. Otherwise maybe I'll have to give in, but not just ready yet...

  • FRUSTRATED! Cannot access Seagate external HDD - message is "the disk you inserted was not readable by this computer"

I get the message "the disk you inserted was not readable by this computer" when trying to access my Seagate external HDD.
Disk Utility lists both the Seagate drive and volume but all options (verify disk, repair disk) are greyed out.
It says the volume is unmounted and Windows_FAT_32.
(The external HDD used to be formatted for NTFS, but when I moved across to Apple last year, I reformatted to FAT32).
I haven't accessed the drive for a few months but the last time I did, it worked fine.
I'm running OS X 10.9.5 on MBA bought last year.
I've spent 2 hours trawling through blogs/mac forums/apple support and nearly bought Disk Warrior out of frustration, but surely there must be a simpler solution?
I don't think I'm dealing with a corrupt drive, just an inaccessible one!
Any help greatly appreciated, even if it is to pay the $$$ for DW...!
    Thanks, Jay

  • ITunes Library access via external HDD w/ AirPort Extreme

Ok wizards...  I've read a number of posts, but can't seem to pull together the answer to my question and hoping someone's able to push me in the right direction.
I've got a Windows 7 PC with my iTunes library stored on an external HDD due to it's size.  My PC is often not at home (i travel for work a lot) and would like to have my library available to my family via my Apple TV when i'm not there.  So... I'm contemplating buying an AirPort Extreme and connecting the HDD.  I have read that the HDD must be formatted to FAT32 for it to function w/ the AirPort extreme (seemingly an arduous step, but surmountable) but can't seem to find a clear answer to the question:
Will I be able to access my Library via the Apple TV via this method?  Obviously any tips / tricks would be greatly appreciated and thanks (in advance) for anyone who can help!

No, at least not directly. You would still need an iTunes "server" to stream the iTunes media to the Apple TV. Typically a iTunes server would be a Mac or PC computer running iTunes.

  • Mysterious usage of my external HDD space after last backup on TM?

Recently, after some problems with TM giving me a pop up error, I turned off TM and used my WD MyBook as a normal external and have just been copying files onto it. Last night, I figured it has been a bit too long since I last backed-up my mac's HD (I backed up right before I upgraded to ML in the beginning of August). It took well over an hour for it to just prepare the backup, then took almost all night to backup 100GB worth of data (I downloaded a few games and I purchased a few TV series). Before the backup, i checked the "Get Info" option of my external and saw that it said I had about 600GB of my 1TB left for space, but then when I started the backup, it went down to 70GB left!!! My internal HDD is only 250GB, so I dont see how 600GB could be used up just like that... with all the files (pictures, videos, shows, and games) that I manually put into my external HDD, i use up only about 300-400GB. Even if I used up ALL of the space on my internal and backed up everything, it still doesnt add up to the 900GB that have been mysteriously used up. Any clue where all of this data was used up? should i delete my old backups from older versions of my mac's OS and just make the most recent back-up what I have on my mac now? Any help would be appreciated!! I feel as if TM did something wrong when i backed up my data after 2 months

By going into the options you gave me, it said that the size of the backup should still be 211GB, which still doesnt make up for the good 300 GB discrepancy. Could it be that it is making multiple copies of my internal due to the fact that i updated my OS?

  • Problem! I just copied my extern hdd to finder and tried to open my files when I get the message: "The Map "Pictures" can not be opened since you don´t have authority to  see it´s contents! What??? No one else has access to my computer....

Problem! I just copied my extern hdd to finder and tried to open my files when I get the message: "The Map ”Pictures” can not be opened since you don´t have authority to  see it´s contents! What??? No one else has access to my computer....now I can´t open my 300 Gb on my hdd in my Macbook Pro. Help?

I've had this happen a few times before. What I found works is repairing the permissions. To do so click on go and then to utilities. click disk utilities. In disk utilities select the drive and click repair permissions. It may take a little time but try accessing after that.

It depends on how often you'd be writing info to the hd, but my guess would be not long!
The iPod hd isn't robust enough to use in this manner (where it needs to keep spinning up a great deal).
Plus, a restore is very often a cure for iPod ills and that means a total loss of any data stored on it.
With the price of ext hd as cheap as they are nowadays, in my view it just isn't worth using an iPod in this manner.

  • Access USB external HDD connected to Airport Extreme

    Hi.
Today I configured "Back to my Mac" and I'm having a little issue with the external HDD that is connected to the Airport.
Let me explain the configuration: Airport Extreme (latest version) configured with Back to My Mac option, with an external HDD connected using USB port (The HDD is externanly powered). iMac computer with OSX Mavericks wireless connected, configured with iCloud Account and Back to My Mac with screen sharing).
I can access the shared screen and control the iMac from my Macbook Air outside my home network.
The issue is when I try to access the "network HDD" because I can connect using the right user but Finder windows never shows the HDD content. I have to disconect and reconnect to the external HDD to be able to see the files (If I have 3 windows and want to access the HDD on each of the 3 windows, I have to disconnect and reconnect 3 times).
    Question:
There is any way to access the external HDD and be able to see its content using the configuration mentioned? The disconnect and reconnect procedure for each window is normal? There is a better configuration I can apply?. Just as information, from my MacBook Im able to see perfect the HDD content from outside my home network.
I know the question is a little bit confusing, but if you need any additional info please let me know.
    Thank you.

  • Cannot access my external HDD

    Hi Everyone,
I'm new to the forum, but if someone could help me with this I would be so grateful. A couple of days ago, I was working with my external HDD (Western Digital, 250GB, USB 2.0), when my Macbook (running OS 10.5.6) froze and restarted. Normally I can access the HDD through the orange icon that appears on my Desktop and in Finder, but it is no longer there.
I checked Disk Utility, System Profiler, and USB Prober - and they all appear to recognize a Mass Storage Device. In Disk Utility, I am not able to "mount" but when I click "eject" I get the following message: "Eject Failed. The disk “WDC WD25 00JB-00GVA0 Media” could not be unmounted. Make sure that all applications and files are closed on this disk." As far as I know, I'm not using anything from this drive.
I have checked the /Volumes/ folder, and there is nothing but the main HDD of my Macbook.
I have a lot of data on this drive that I really need, so any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Other things that I have tried:
[1] lsof +D /Volumes/ExternalHD could not find my HDD
[2] Tried a new enclosure to rule out faulty wiring, but I get the same results
[3] Also of note, I cannot click "repair disk" in Disk Utility, because it is greyed-out
[4] I have tried using Disk Warrior and Data Rescue II, but they both freeze when my external HDD is running

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

    TD

  • USB external HDD won't access files properly on Satellite A100-033

I have a Toshiba Satellite laptop A100-033 ( PSAANE-03J02GEN), running Windows Vista Home Basic.
I have a Western Digital passport external hard drive, which has no separate power source, as it draws its power through the USB port.
Sometimes the drive works okay, but I often have huge problems in accessing files on the drive. Opening a folder can make Windows hang.
Opening a Word or audio file can make Word or the audio software crash. Copying files often fails and in the process may make Windows explorer stop working.
Recently I tried to copy a 33MB file from the external drive to my laptop, and while it did this it took over an hour. So all sorts of things can happen, none of them pleasant.
Problems can happen whether the external drive is the only peripheral plugged into a USB drive (apart from an external mouse, which I always use), or whether the external drive is one of a number of peripherals plugged into my laptop - either separately or via a USB hub (either powered or unpowered).
Does anyone know what is going on and how I can make my USB external drive usable? I have two other external drives (powered by their own power source) and these work perfectly.
Why, much of the time, does this drive limp along so badly as to be virtually unusable?

    Hi
One thing is clear; the issue is definitely related to the external HDD and not to the notebook. It looks like that this issue happens always if the HD was connected.
Its really difficult to say what could be wrong with your external HDD
Maybe the HDD sectors are corrupt and therefore you cannot open the folders and some files stored on the HDD.
Did you try to format the HDD? Check this and try to save and reopen some files again.
In worst case the external HDD has a hardware malfunctions

  • Cannot access the external HDD PX1396E

Just bought this external hard drive, 1TB.
I plug it in and Windows (xp) recognizes it and installs the drivers, or something.
When I click on it to explore it, it says please insert disk into drive X.
I've connected it to 3 different computers and same problem.
I've tried looking for specific drivers but there don't seem to be any, not even in the toshiba website.
    What's up, anyone know?
    Thanks.

    Mr,
I think you should go to the palce where you back to the place where you bought the external HDD, because it's not your computer who has the problem. If your computer was diffictueus then the External HDD should work with the other computers.
So it's a hardware problem with the external, may be it's Broken. So go and change it.
that's all what I can Say.

  • Unable to access user account files in OS X when connected as external HDD

    Hi experts,
I'm having a problem with my mac mini (McM). I'm using my McM as an external HDD and it has mutiple user accounts on it. While connected from another mac, I'm able to see the McM listed in the left pane as an external device. When i select the users folder, I'm able to see the lists of my user accounts in it. The real problem starts when I try to look for my files in the default folders of my account in the 'Users' folder. This would be like Users --> My account --> (Desktop/Downloads/Documents...etc).  All the folders here are shown with a RED MINUS DOT on the folder icon with nothing inside it.
I have tried changing the users permissions for the folder but it doesn't allow and remains to be disabled. Tried changing the file permissions on the HDD itself, by selecting "Ignoring ownership on this volume" option but running into errors. Also tried copying the entire folder and sub-folders but the data is not available after the copy is done.
So I'm now looking for a solution as to how could I take a back up of my files from the McM HDD without having to format it. There's some really important data that I can't afford to loose. All of my data is stored in the default folders itself and I haven't created any additional/separate folders.
    All help appreciated. Thanks.
