Last Apple update failed?

The last 3 Apple updates (Migration and Sharing DVD/CD, iTunes 8.0.2 and Security Update 2008-007) are failing, an alert msg says:
"The following install step failed"
- run pre-install script for MigrationDVDCDSharingLeopard
- run preflight script for iTunes
- run pre-install script fro SecUpd2008-007.
"Contact the manufacuter..."
Must I ignore that updates?

but the verify/repair permission through Apple CD did not work, it says that there is "no valid package"...
This usually means someone has tampered with the /Library/Receipts/ folder by removing .pkg or .bom files placed there by the Apple installer application at the time the OS & associated applications were installed. These files furnish the information about correct permissions. Without them, the permissions repair cannot proceed. (It doesn't matter which application you use; they all run the same verification or repair.)
If someone has tampered with this folder it is likely that other system level folders have also been tampered with, often in a misguided attempt to remove "unneeded" files (that actually are needed) to save disk space or to somehow make the OS run faster by removing them (it doesn't). This is quite possibly the cause of your installation problems because some system files that may have been removed contain info or code necessary for the pre-installation, preflight, etc. scripts.
If this is true then you will need to reinstall the OS & any updates Software Updates lists as available for your system to reliably set things right.
BTW, how is it that your installer DVD has 10.4.6 but you are running 10.5.5? You should have a Leopard installer disk if you have installed that OS. It should install 10.5, 10.5.1, or 10.5.4, depending on its vintage. You must use this disk to follow the advice above.

  • Why has flashplayer stopped working after last apple update?

This is very frustrating. I have done everything suggested, uninstall, re-install, empty cache, restart computer, reset safari and still the flashplayer will not work! I had no problem with the flashplayer before the last Apple update and these 'glitches' are begining to make me question Apple!

If you're sure you've installed the latest version of Flash, take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. After each step, relaunch Safari and test. For a "missing plug-in" error, start with Step 4.
    1. If you're getting a "blocked plug-in" error, then from the menu bar select
     ▹ System Preferences… ▹ Flash Player ▹ Advanced
and click Check Now. Quit and relaunch your browser.
    2. Triple-click the line below to select it:
    /Library/Internet Plug-Ins
Right-click or control-click the highlighted text and select
    Services ▹ Open
from the contextual menu. A folder should open. Delete the following item, or anything with a similar name, if present:
    Flash Player (failing).plugin
You may be prompted for your login password.
    3. Re-download and reinstall Flash. Download it from this page:
Adobe - Install Adobe Flash Player
Never download a Flash update from anywhere else.
    4. If you get a "missing plug-in" error, select
    Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Security
from the Safari menu bar and check the box marked Enable plug-ins.
    5. Select
    Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Extensions
from the Safari menu bar. If any extensions are installed, disable them.
    6. In the Safari preference window, select
Privacy ▹ Remove All Website Data
    Close the window. Then select
     ▹ System Preferences… ▹ Flash Player ▹ Advanced
and click Delete All. Close the preference pane.

  • Did the last Apple update screw up your computer?

The last two Apple software updates seemed to have screwed up my computer.  After downloading and installing the last one (which included an update to iTunes), I could not turn on iTunes - it just made my computer freeze up.  I could not shut it down the regular way.  So I pressed the power button for 5 seconds, which turned the computer off finally.  Then let it sit for 30 seconds.  And when I went to turn it on - the computer got to the gray screen and just hung there.  I finally had to press the power button for 5 seconds to shut it down so I could hook up my external hard drives and boot from there.
Tried to see if I could boot from the internal HD - it froze again.  Tried to run Disk Utility, which recongized the hard drive under the name I gave it - and it was mounted.  After running Disk Utility, the internal drive is no longer showing up on my desktop.  It does show up in Disk Utility and in Drive Genius but will not mount.
I should also mention that my keyboard and trackpad stopped working after the last update.  I have been using an auxiliary keyboard and trackball for years, and have no problem with them now.

Can you boot a clone/DVD copy of OS X without input problems?
If so, I just think you have a failing HD. Usually, Apple updates don't go around completely messing up the OS. Try to backup what you can if you think that way, too.
Is there any other weird behavior when booting the clone?
Any weird noise from the internal drive?
PS: I just cancelled downloading the updates

  • Mail crashes frequently after last Apple update (Safari 4 and Java update)

Since applying the last Apple software update for Safari 4 and Java earlier this week, Apple Mail has been crashing frequently when I start the program. It does not happen every time, but most of the time. 2-3 seconds after I open Mail, it will crash. I don't use Safari 4, so it's not open when this crash occurs. Any ideas?

HI Since the last Apple itune WIndows update every time i open itunes I get the Welcome page and have to agree to share my library. Before the update i had only done this once. Now its every timre i open itunes

    Copied from your previous post.
You are right the Iphone is locked into the carrier softbank from Japan and its not the 3g model its the one before it, I am not sure what model.
If your iPhone is not the 3G model - it is the one before that, this means your iPhone is the first generation iPhone or the original iPhone, which WAS NOT sold officially by Apple in Japan. The first generation iPhone was sold officially by Apple in the U.S. as carrier locked with AT&T, in the UK as carrier locked with O2, in Germany as carrier locked with T-Mobile, and in France as carrier locked with Orange and as officially unlocked by Orange. The ONLY country where the first generation was sold as officially unlocked was in France, which is required by French law.
The original iPhone - the one before the 3G was not sold by Apple in Japan directly or through Softbank.
Did you purchase your iPhone from Softbank or from an Apple store in Japan ? If so, this would also mean your iPhone is carrier locked with Softbank since the iPhone is sold in Japan officially as carrier locked with Softbank only, and this would be the 3G or 3GS, not the original iPhone. This would also mean you are roaming internationally with Softbank with your iPhone in China. If you are using a SIM card from a carrier in China with your iPhone, your iPhone has been hacked to be unlocked unless you purchased your iPhone from an unofficial source in Japan which was sold originally as new officially in France as officially unlocked by the carrier Orange in France.
Is your iPhone is carrier locked with Softbank in Japan, are you paying Softbank international roaming fees while using your iPhone in China?

  • Apple updates failing (via Software Update and Manual .dmg) but other installs complete.

    Hello,
Currently on an iMac 3.06 Core 2 Duo, 10.6.8
All the current updates in my Software Update (iTunes 10.6.1, Java Update 7, Safari 5.1.5) will not install, and will not install via manual .dmg download either. Other NON apple updates/installs I download will install via the installer just fine.
I've done the usual permissions repair from current disk utility version, as well as persmissions and disk repair via boot from install disk. Rebooted, no changes.
Console keeps showing similar errors as follows:
    4/7/12 4:34:12 PM
    installd[987]
Package Authoring Warning: Will not do obsoleting for package com.apple.pkg.update.softwareinstallerupdate.1.0 because it contains unsafe bundles.
I'm pretty stumped. I have a 1tb drive, and there is 60gb free. If this was a disk space issue, I would assume other updates would fail also.
    Thoughts?

Same issue. Mid summer went to update Aperture, got to the "Moving items into place" and just stayed there. Then, when all the update for Mountain Lion came out, same thing with iPhoto's update. Tryed the .dmg's, same thing. Many hours on phone, established a second administrator account, checked out the HD's status, still the same. Booting into Safe Boot allowed the installation(s) to complete, but not a great solution. I thought that this was my machine, but my wife's near identical 13" MBPro did the same thing yesterday when she tried via Software Update. Again, Safe Boot allowed the installations to complete.
One thing, it seems only to happen on Apple's graphics or "lifestyle" apps ... iWork went OK, but Aperture, iPhoto, iMovie are the ones that seem to hang. Maybe that can help diagnose this. For what it's worth, I think the problem is something gone amiss in Apple's installers for some of these programs.

  • Missing favorites after last Apple update

I purchased new Apple computer, while husband is still using the older one.  After I updated his computer yesterday with new UPDATE, it removed all HIS favorites and is using only mine, and we can't find it anywhere.  I even checked iCloud. Any help would be great as there are four years of favorites he's needing for his modeling work.

Two or more users are synchronizing Safari with iCloud while signed in with the same Apple ID. At least one should sign out of iCloud in its preference pane and sign in with a different ID. If you want to keep sharing the same ID, uncheck the box marked Safari in the preference pane.
    B
You can only restore the whole bookmarks file to a previous state. It's not possible to restore individual bookmarks.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it, then copy it to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
    ~/Library/Safari
    Quit Safari.
    Select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the Finder menu bar. Paste into the text box that opens by pressing command-V, then press return.
A folder window should open. Restore the file named "Bookmarks.plist" in that folder from a backup that predates the unwanted changes.
If you don't have such a backup, but the bookmarks are still present on an iOS device (iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch) that synchronizes with iCloud, then see below.
Back up your iOS devices. Turn off iCloud synchronization of Safari on all devices except one of those. Quit Safari and delete the bookmarks file on the Mac, then enable Safari sync on it. Launch Safari. The bookmarks should sync from the iOS device.

  • Mega probs after last Apple update... is it just me? No idea what to do...

I just uploaded the new updates as have been without internet for >6weeks: from memory a security one, new itunes and quicktime... G4 worked fine that night. Today - wouldn't start up. Reset it 3 times as stuck on screen after log in. Left it and after 30 mins it logged onto screen. Would lag 2 mins behind - left it, had to restart it - then it started working. It reset the time, can't get access to my iPhoto (says it is locked or I have no access) at all, apple-info says it is empty, it has deleted about half the content of my documens randomy, my TO DOs in my iCal, all my Palmtop memos, all my Mail (but my address book is intact), bookmarks OK and iTunes left untouched. All I can say is what the f*?!
Any idea of getting back what has gone? Or do I have to just bit my lip (off) and try and make do with the damage limitation!

    Hi Matt
have you run DU before/after update?
did you clear the desktop before update(close all applications)
How old is your PB? might be related to the backup battery.
like scb you should archive/install then get the combo update(allways).
don't worry I don't thing you lost any data.

  • HT4528 my iphone 4 downloaded the last apple update and now showing an itunes icon and to plug it in

why is my iphone in recovery mode after updating to the newest ios

Probably something went wrong during the update. Connect in recovery mode to the computer and restore again, explained here: iOS: Unable to update or restore

  • Genius switched on but the symbol not showing on selected album in the iPod so unable to create a genius play list. This has only happened since last Apple update.

Have tried all avenues to try and rectify this problem and is getting very annoying. In the past it has stopped me from creating a list stating not enough songs matching which i find odd seeing i have over 2,500 on my iPod.

    Dear Customer,
As you can see, your pre-requisite checks are failing because you are not on supported OS version.
Please verify supported OS from SRSP guide (If you are on prior Siebel version 8.1.1.8) or Certification tab for all siebel versions from 8.1.1.9.
    I hope it helps.
    Best Regards,
    Chetan

  • The last itunes update has failed - getting error program C:/program files (x86)\itunes\itunes.exe - R6034 attemp tp load C runtime library incorrectlly. I have tried to repair and reinstall. getting same error - can ayone help

the last itunes update failed - getting error R6034 attemp to load C runtime library incorrectly. Program reference - Program C;/prgram files (x86)\tunes\itunes.exe - can anyone help. I tried to use epir and did an uninstall and reinstall and still geting same error

Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall move on to the next item)
    Bonjour
    Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.
    Please note:
Some users may need to follow all the steps in whichever of the following support documents applies to their system. These include some additional manual file and folder deletions not mentioned above.

  • Latest iTunes update fails, Uninstall / Re-Install solution fails

    Hello All,
    Katrina, b noir ....
Several days ago after the last iTunes update failed, crippling iTunes connection to the iTunes Store, I came to the support pages for answers.
I started following the step by step instructions to uninstall and re-install iTunes 10.4.1.10, first hitch...Bonjour refused to go completely leaving stubborn files behind, I had to download LSPFIX.exe to finally clean its folder
As instructed by the apple support article, orderly deleted all the other files and folders, used msicuu2.exe, restarted the PC, and using rar extracted the individual .MSIs to continue with standalone installations.
Got two new errors, Apple Application Support will not install due to "A later version of Apple Application Support is already installed on this computer" and,
Apple Mobile Device Support failed to install when the AMDS stalled and displayed a 1053 error,
Tried to start the AMDS service many times without luck, I read somewhere that NETframework service pack 1.1 had resolved that 1053 error in the past...I am logged as admin on a Windows XP machine
Most of what I did successfully was learned from reading the posts and answers to/from other members.
I would really appreciate your assistance.
    Thanks and best regards.

For some reason when I try to download iTunes from the Apple site the file is flagged as dangerous.
That suggests that the installer is getting damaged during the download.
I'd first try downloading an installer from the Apple website using a different web browser:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
If you use Firefox instead of IE for the download (or vice versa), do you get a working installer?

  • Last iTunes update 10.2.2.12 deleted all music files and all artwork

Within the last month I got a notice to upgrade Apple iTunes and Quicktime software which I did not thinking anything about it.  I have used myiPod since then but not in iTunes at all and no synching.  I have about 225 CD's loaded in iTunes plus some other music from Home Sharing that my son/daughter bought with our account in the iTunes store.  I recently got a new double CD requested for my birthday and decided to load it into iTunes and on my computer.  It had problems automatically recognizing the CD so I checked all the settings and they were correct rebooted my computer and one CD loaded not the other and had to reboot again to get the second to load.  But also I noticed ALL ALBUM ARTWORK was gone.  Both the album artwork I got from Apple and the Album artwork I loaded (the bulk of my CD's are older CD's so the Apple iTunes store does not have the artwork typically) was missing.  I thought that was a little odd but iTunes has done this before after updates but usually ONLY with the album artwork I loaded being missing.  In any case I tried Get Artwork via the iTunes sote and got error messages that Album artwork could not load.  I also then tried to load the artwork manually and iTunes music library rejected it.  Then I tried to play a song listed.  It said the song is not there.  Now all of my music is listed in my iTunes library, but apparently NONE of it is actually there.  I go to where iTuens Music Library and sure enough only the last 4 CD's are there.  Apparently the last Apple Update deleted all the music files, and all the artwork with it, yet still lists them in iTunes but they are nowhere to be found.  Before I go into my backup files on an external hard drive, it appears others are having this issue too, and I am wondering if anyone has actually got a simple fix from Apple or not.  .

Follow up - I could not locate any of the files on my "c" drive of my laptop.  Realizing that I am gonna probably have to reload everything from my external hard drive backup I went ahead and just started the process.  I uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes software, which turned out to NOT be required at all as when I reopened iTunes all of the music files were again listed just as before but none of them were actually there or the artwork.  I then copied all the music files/folders over into the iTunes music folder and about 90% of them then showed up with about 98% of the artwork.  The other 10% just had to be matched up as the music was there but iTunes was not looking in the right location for it now, most likely different folder names.  So after about 6 hours I am back to having everything back on the computer and reorganized again.  I am now going to back up again (in multiple locations - 2 hard drives and I may add a flash drive backup too) and then do the inevitable scary Apple sync.  I find it funny that with other company's software that syncs, it actually syncs, where Apple sync software seems to look for items to delete from one source or the other during its sync. They really should rename it because it is not a true "sync".  In any case I was happy and surprised to find that about 98% of the artwork came through with the music which never used to happen in the past, so that saved a lot of time to say the least.  To anyone who ever does anything with Apple or Windows software updates, all I can say from years of experience now is backup, backup, backup, and backup prior to updating.

  • HT1600 MY UPDATE FAILS CONTINUOUSLY. ANY SUGGESTIONS?

Apple update fails continuously.  I have followed the onscreen insturctions, and when it finishes, it is unable to update. It tells me to restart, have done so, nothing.  I have restarted apple tv, and nothing.  Suggestions?????

I was experiencing the same thing. Are you connected via LAN? I unplugged my network cable, connected via wireless, and the update is running now with no problems. Apparently this update impacts stability of the wired network. Wondering if the next update will work wired.

  • Apple Update Error Broke my Apple TV

    Hi People
Last Apple Update is Breaking Apple TV Model a1427, So be careful and dont update, i had to reinstall twice ipsw 5.3 hold menu + Vol Down, Then Menu + Play. Then Menu + Ok, thats the way i can reinstall ipsw 5.3 and have ATV working, i thing apple should be more careful with updates, because is making us lost a lot of time, learning to dodge the mistakes they make.
I called customer service and they told me they need to charge me with 50 dollars because my ATV was out of warranty, but the question is, if the update Apple sent is breaking my ATV why in earth do i have to repair it?
Follow the step mentiones above and your ATV will be back and running, but wait til next update to avoid, having a broken ATV and paying for be repared

What worse/better way to be able to say you had XX number of downloads or customers...
*Apple Pushes Unwanted Software to Windows Users - Again*
Linked by Thom Holwerda on Mon 28th Sep 2009 16:18 UTC
If you have Apple's QuickTime media player and/or iTunes installed on your Windows machine, you might want to keep an eye on apple's Software Update tool. Apple is once again using the update tool to push unwanted software onto users' machines without asking for permission.
    OSnews
the only other solution we can offer you is a simple one: uninstall the Apple Software Update program. The updater is not necessary to keep installed for any Apple software to work correctly on Windows.

I uninstall what I don't use, and the "don't check for updates" seems to works for me, and when I choose to update, it is stand-alone update. Also, take a look with msconfig and disable anything left running that the uninstall programs left.
However, I wouldn't call it nagware, not malware!
