Hi Guys!
I see that nobody has replied to Micheline's post so I decided to chime in.
Here's the deal -- as you might suspect Sun is no different from any
other big company in a sense that convincing management to do
something might take longer than expected (if you know what I mean).
However, given the tremendous focus on the community, one voice
that has a much better chance of convincing them is yours. That's
why if you really want us to do something particular with Sun Studio
compilers and tools (be it on Linux or on Solaris) please put it
in a form of a question and post it as a reply to Micheline. Which
then, in turn, would give me and other engineers some power
to go back to our bosses and tell them -- see our customers
are asking for it ;-)
Anyway, if something bugs you about Sun Studio now would be the
best time to let us know.

How the heck to get some Verizon Management support????

For the last two weeks, I have been trying to get Verizon to resolve an issue with our FIOS digital voice services to no avail. I have shown a great deal of patience concerning this matter; but, my patience has run out.
On your website, and on your FIOS iPhone app, Verizon advertises the ability to check voice mail and activate call features such as call forwarding, two features my wife and I would like to use. I have attempted on multiple occasions to access the Verizon FIOS Digital Voice Account Manager. Each time after entering my user name and password a webpage comes up that has no hyperlinks showing FIOS Features “Calling Plans”, “Online Voice Mail”, and “Calling Features”. There is NO ability to access any of the features. Nothing.
I have been on-line with your techs. I have been on phone calls and desktop sharing sessions with your techs. Each has seen the issue first hand and kick the can down the Verizon tech support road to no resolution. The last time I contacted Verizon, a formal Verizon ticket was created, ticket {edited for privacy}. After several days, the issue was still not resolved.
I received a call from Verizon Saturday afternoon checking on my problem. The tech explained to me that no one had apparently worked the issue. I verified the issue was still not resolved, including sharing my desktop yet again to so the tech could verify the problem yet again. The tech acknowledged the continuing problem and said Verizon still need to work on the issue. DAH!!!! On Aug 17, 2013, at 1:48 pm, I received a text message saying my work request has been resolved. Not true.
The inability of Verizon to resolve my problem has become troubling. Moreover, the continued time-consuming process of trying to get Verizon to fix my issue is not working.
What do I need to do to have Verizon resolve my issue once and for all? At the very least, I would like for some management intervention into my issue. I have screen prints concerning my issues.

I'm not at all certain I understand your issue, but it appears that you are trying to manage FiOS Digital Voice online. If that's the case, have you tried visiting:

I bought a $50.00 dollar Itune card and redeemed my card on Itunes and I went to the apple store to get some music and I was asked for my credit card info and was charged not only on my credit card but on the itunes card as well $ 8.65

Move the library back into your Pictures folder and open it. Then close it and try rebuilding again.

Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments. However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

Caution - Leopard does not support classic mode. So, if you currently open OS 9 apps in classic mode, you won't be able to do this if you upgrade to Leopard.

My friend wanted to get some of the music off my itunes. when syncing it needed to udate her phone which it did - now all her photos are gone. and the last back up was from when she used my itunes 6 ago. How can we get back her photos :(Please help

When we tried to restore the last back up - the only one was from when she used my itunes 6 months ago which was from her old iphone. So now it has put all her photos from her old phone onto her new iphone and deleted all the new ones. We cannot find her new photos. Please help and there was 100 new pics. Is there any way we can get them back. I already have the program Asoftech - but it doesnt seem to register the iphone only C and D drive. Please help!

That's not quite what it said. Someone should have paid more attention to the great big warning about the possibility of losing data if the phone wasn't backed up.

It restored the backup that was made on your computer 6 months ago, which did not contain those photos. You're wasting your time trying to find them on the phone. They don't exist.
Hopefully, your friend syncs her phone to her own computer on a regular basis. She needs to plug her phone into her computer and restore it from her last backup. That will restore it to the state it was in when the backup was made.
She also needs to get in the habit of extracting the photos on a regular basis, like she would from any other digital camera.

These are the some of instances of screen jumbling I faced
1) all the app icons stacked up on top left corner. I could move them anywhere on the screen but could not start the app. Later killed all apps and starting iPad rectified it.
2) starting any app was giving blank screen, restart rectified it
3) home screen and lock screen both merged up. I could see both of them together whenever I swiped on the screen. Again restart rectified it.
Can I get replacement of this piece, I believe there is some serious hardware issues in it.

Handed over iPad to support group named "imagine"in Bangalore Saturday evening. There is no direct support available from Apple in India. Know what.. These "imagine" guys are highly incopetent..
When I checked the status in evening, their reply was that there is no issue with iPad, even though burning smell was still threre if I keep the nose close to iPad, but during working for 4-5 hours it starts building up.
When I asked how did they tested it, reply was that they kept playing games on my iPad and they didn't find any issue.. Rediculous answer..
They even didn't bother to open up the piece or running test of full CPU/RAM and Graphics utilization. Now asking me to take it back to wait for either complete breakdown or burndown, no matter where I am.. Airport, hospital, client meeting..
I use my iPad mostly for client presentations, I don't want to be in a situation that the display again jumbles up during a demo session giving impression that the problem is with our application..

Events replace rolls (if your rolls are named - NOT the default rollxxx name - they will come across as is - to me events are rolls with much more capability and a new name - some people are VERY putoff by the change (but most love it) for reasons that I simply do not comprehend
10) What is the effective (or advised) maximum library size? I've probably got over 60GB of images in my libraries now, with 20,000 images or so. If 7 can readily digest them (and preserve all my albums, etc.), then I'd love to combine them into one, unless that will kill performance, make the database unstable, drive backups into interminable waits, etc.
The advertised max is 250,000 photos - I have about the same number of photos as you in about 1/3 the space - there are a few users here with libararies your size. With iPhoto Library Manager it is easy to maintain multiple libraries if you choose

i am seriously considering the 30" display.
but i am highly concerned over the possibility
of getting one with stuck / dead / dancing pixels
or one with broken USB / firewire hub
or one with a dark band running across the screen.
i am getting it directly from the UK Apple Store (Online)
and so i will not be able to inspect the item until it arrives at my doorstep.
i have asked the sale staff at the apple retail store earlier, and they insisted that it is not possible that i open the box to check the display before i pay for it.
i must say that i have a rather small tolerance for pixel abnormalities because i still believe that since i have paid so much for a display (1799 pounds), it should not be any less than perfect. on the other hand, i am fully aware of Apple's explanation for this issue and i am afraid that they will refuse to take responsilities when i eventually discover that there is a bad glaring pixel right in the middle of my screen.
questions:
have any of you guys actually received a 100% perfect 30" display before?
what is the chance of getting a perfect display? 75% chance or lower?
am i better off getting a Dell 30"? do you think there is a less likelihood that i will get a bad 30" display from Dell? does Dell use the same LCD quality as Apple?
this is a huge investment for me, and i want to get this right. friends of mine who are PC users are keenly watching this purchase and if something isn't right again (just like my past experience buying computers from Apple), they would probably think that i am a real fool paying such a premium for something with defects out of the box.
i hope i do not sound unreasonable as a paying customer. i think that it is only natural that i want a perfect 30" screen.

I've gone through 6 of them recently and given up. Here are the problems I encountered:
Monitor 1: Non-uniform brightness with right side much brighter than left side and top brighter than bottom. 1 bad pixel in the upper middle area.
Monitor 2: Brightness uniformity was good, no bad pixels, but flashing short lines and pixels on black background.
Monitor 3: Dim horizontal area starting about 2/3 from the top of the screen and going about 2/3 of the way across the screen. Looks like a very uneven backlight tube. The top backlight tube also seemed to be dim. I guess the problem could also be caused by the backlight control module. Three bad pixels.
Monitor 4: Same problem as monitor 3, only worse, and it also had a bad pixel in the middle of the screen as well as the flashing pixels/lines on black background problem.
Monitor 5: Two white vertical stripes on the right side of the screen. A real shame because otherwise it was good - no dead pixels and decent brightness uniformity. I had never seen a problem like this before - probably something wrong with the video processing electronics.
Monitor 6: Same problem as 3 and 4, but a little better. Still not acceptable.
All monitors were made in Jan. 2006 other than Monitor 2 which was made in Dec. 2005.
I ended up getting a refund - I just couldn't find a good one. I'm planning to wait until the recent manufacturing problems with this model are sorted out. I bought one of these a year ago, and it is very good other than some rare "dancing green pixels".
Things somehow got worse with these panels around the time Dell started shipping theirs. May or may not be a coincidence. Ramping up production for high volume can be tricky.

Last chance for entering password

Is there a way of resetting the last chance to allow 10 more tries? I migrated to a new phone and the old phone has some pictures I want to keep. But for some reason the password changed after I migrated the phone.

You realize, I presume, that you're using one of the most disliked and trouble-prone operating systems Microsoft ever wrote. It would seem nonsensical for you to quit without at least trying Image Browser on the much more stable and reliable Windows 7. Or even on either version of Windows 8. That OS's wretched user interface masks an excellent ability to detect and incorporate new devices - a function at which Vista was famously lame.

I have a 16gb ipad 3 and it got problems , since i updated it to the new version i had some serious problems ,
My ipad will not turn on when it plug in to the charger that on the wall or my ipod dock that i normally charge it on , it come up with the battery signal when it on charge and in the battery signal theres red lines through it and it goes to the apple logo after that it turns off and starts it again , ive reboted it , ive downloaded itunes agian to restart it that way but it wont come up on it at all . it starting to **** me off .. it has run off the 9o days or so period .. my last report that is to ring them to see if they can help . My ipad has a lock on it too and it has never done this before .......

I would be concerned too if my iPad was not charging. I found an article with steps you can take when you encounter an issue like this. I recommend following the steps below (these steps refer to an iPhone, but the steps also are relevant for an iPad):
Will not turn on, will not turn on unless connected to power, or unexpected power off
Verify that the Sleep/Wake button functions. If it does not function, inspect it for signs of damage. If the button is damaged or is not functioning when pressed, seek service.
Check if a Liquid Contact Indicator (LCI) is activated or there are signs of corrosion. Learn about LCIsand corrosion.
Connect the iPhone to the iPhone's USB power adapter and let it charge for at least ten minutes.
After at least 30 minutes, if:
The home screen appears: The iPhone should be working. Update to the latest version of iOS if necessary. Continue charging it until it is completely charged and you see this battery icon in the upper-right corner of the screen . Then unplug the phone from power. If it immediately turns off, seek service.
The low-battery image appears, even after the phone has charged for at least 20 minutes: See "iPhone displays the low-battery image and is unresponsive" symptom in this article.
Something other than the Home screen or Low Battery image appears, continue with this article for further troubleshooting steps.
If the iPhone did not turn on, reset it while connected to the iPhone USB power adapter.
If the display turns on, go to step 4.
If the display remains black, go to next step.
Connect the iPhone to a computer and open iTunes. If iTunes recognizes the iPhone and indicates that it is in recovery mode, attempt to restore the iPhone. If the iPhone doesn't appear in iTunes or if you have difficulties in restoring the iPhone, see this article for further assistance.
If restoring the iPhone resolved the issue, go to step 4. If restoring the iPhone did not solve the issue, seek service.

Home Phone Service via Verizon Wireless needs some SERIOUS rethinking!

Has anyone else signed up for home phone service over Verizon Wireless?
Here in LA, they offered a $19.99/month deal using the wireless service - a box provides the service, and you plug your home phone in. The service is adequate, but somebody forgot to think about how home phones work. I tried to get my billing set up through my bank, and after getting no notice for three weeks, I got a message in my email box that my bill was delinquent, and I owed a late fee. I had tried to set up the billing via My Verizon, but could never get a password to work. I finally got a phone number to call, and they sent me a new password via text message - to a home phone with no text capabilities. After hearing and seeing nothing for another two weeks, I called again, and they told me they'd sent the message. I had to remind them that this was a home phone - no texts. So they offered to send me a letter with a new password, within 7-10 ten days. It arrived two weeks later, and didn't work. Each of these phone calls took about an hour, and I still didn't have a connection.
I put the bills (now up to two delinquent cycles) on my credit card, just to bring thins current, and got one more password. This time I called BEFORE trying it, and with the assistance of a more determined tech, got an ID and password combination to work. I can now see my bill. I still don't know if the autopay will work, and I have no idea if there's any way to get a notice that the bill wasn't paid.
I cancelled my AT&T service because of its cost, but at least its billing worked. Verizon has some serious rethinking to do about how it's billing system works for home users. And they didn't lock me into billing hell for two years.
The topper is, today, I got a notice from Verizon that I've been delinquent in returning a refurbished instrument I never received, billed to a phone number I don't have. And of course there's no phone number to call to straighten it out.

My iPhone was stolen. I used Find My iPhone app to lock it and display a message. The phone has not connected to the internet to locate it. I contacted the police and they have taken my meid number. How does this work and what are my chances of getting the phone back? Are there other ways the theif can use it. I was told once they put in a new sim card and use it, whatever software the police have, it will show up.

Honestly? In the US (I can't speak to other countries, though I doubt it works much differently in a lot of the world) The police took your report and filed it either in their computers or, on paper. They will now not think of this again. The only time it will cross anyones mind is if, in the course of entering information into evidence about items recovered or seized at a crime scene, the serial number of an iPhone that was found/seized happens to match yours, in which case you will be contacted.
The police in the US can and will do nothing to 'blok' the phone and it's not worth their time to try and locate it unless you know for a fact that it was stolen by a big time drug lord, master criminal, or some other such prime target and they can get a court order to track the location of the phone in order to locate this individual for your own purposes. If they do that, they'll probably keep him under surveilance for a year or so before they act.
Basically, the police don't care about your phone. If they find it, they will give it back to you. They are not, however, going to go looking for it. They have better things to do.

I am having some serious issues with firefox, i can't print anything because it is stuck on fax and I can't use any of the drop down menus on any site

I am having some serious issues with firefox to the point of choosing another search engine. I can't print anything because it is stuck on fax and won't let me change it to my printer when i do try to select my printer it jumps right back to fax. The drop down menus do not work on any of the sites I go to. For example when purchasing clothes and you have to choose a size from a drop down menu I can't do it when I click on the drop down menu it doesn't work at all. I don't have a virus I ran my virus protector and no viruses are present. I don't have any suspicious issues going on with my computer so there has to be something in Firefox that is causing my issues. I tried internet explorer and I don't have any issues there. I hope you can help me because I love Firefox and would really like to continue to use it.

Lots of issues there, main one getting fcpx going again, try deleting the preferences using the utility deveoped by these guys.
