I would assume they "sold" the rights so no say at all.
I am just guessing though.I would guess the licensing agreements are far more complex, but they would relate mostly to the use of the name. Any restrictions on foreign presenters appearing on other shows would be down to their individual contracts. I don't get this emotional attachment to Clarkson at all. I have nothing against him but if there is a show in desperate need of a shake up it's surely Top Gear, and Chris Evans is perfectly capable of doing that. I don't think people watched top gear for the cars it was more for clarksons stupid ideas which often turned out to be very comical. If top gear goes back to just being about cars i can't see it doing as well they need someone that will come up with more stupid ideas.

• I bought a bbc top gear mag subscription, but it says I need to download a update. The app symbol no longer exists on my ipad and this bbc app is no longer available in Australia to reload. In settings newsstand the subscription still exists

Hi All, I have purchased a BBC top gear magazine subscription thru the App Store about 6 months ago. This bbc app is no longer available to download in Australia because of the Australian version of the mag now being available. Firstly the app symbol has completely disappeared from my ipad. I can still locate my original purchase in settings>newsstand and subscriptions updates are enabled. My second problem is I cannot download any new magazine editions because a message says I need to update the app. Since their is no app to update on my ipad and the app no longer exists/ is available in App Store Australia I'm kind of stuck. The app is available in the USA App Store but I cannot join because I'm not a resident of the us. Any help would be appreciated thanks Fassihire

I think your best bet here is to contact the app developer. Sounds like you need advanced troubleshooting that someone who is a part of the app would know best how to resolve. Best of luck.

• Top Gear Series 22 Available In Canada

Can someone (anyone) please tell me when Top Gear Season 22 will be available on iTunes Canada? The US has had it for three weeks already, but I'm not allowed to purchase it there...
Why was it not released to Canada at the same time as the US?

Only the Canadian copyright holder would be able to answer those questions.

• I need to know how can I download Top Gear the Perfect Road Trip 2.

Hi ,
I would like to know how can I download Top Gear The Perfect Road Trip 2. I really like that show and would like to downloaded as soon as possible. If Top Gear itself gives the option to downloaded on ITunes.
Ron Stauffenberg
P.S. Thank You

Have you looked in your country's iTunes store to see if it's available ? If it is then you should be able to buy and download it.
If it isn't available in your country then you can try requesting that it be added, but unless the rights-holder for your country agrees to it then Apple won't be able to sell it there : http://www.apple.com/feedback/itunes.html

• HT4943 Top gear magazine app

How can I get one page on the screen at a time in the app? I have recently downloaded it and cannot rotate it or get a full page on the screen. I have to hold it across just to read half of the page. Any help or advice will be appreciated

The October version is not displaying on my iPad - just updated to IOS7. When launching the mag on the iPad from newsstand the screen is totally grey. The menus work when you click on the borders, but no pages are displayed. Any suggestions, or is this an IOS7 issue with the app. All previous Top Gear issues worked perfectly. I have updated the app just to make sure I have the latest version of the Top Gear app installed......

• Why is it that when i get a new computer i can only re-download previous songs not videos? Eg. Top Gear

Please help me!

Apple has various license arrangements with its media vendors. If you can't redownload a specific song or video, it could be because Apple isn't allowed to let you download it more than once; or because Apple no longer carries that specific item in its store.
This is why it remains important to back up all your media downloads, even with the advent of redownloading from he iTunes Store and the coming features in iCloud and iTunes in the Cloud.

• How long did your 23" LCD last.

I have a dead Apple 23" LCD, tech says its not repairable.
Purchased in 2002 for over $5,000 (Canadian $).
Canadian Law requires products to be durable for a reasonable period of time.
Is 4 yrs 6 mths a reasonable period for such a product to last?
I have several very much older CRT monitors still going strong.
Macbook Pro 17" Mac OS X (10.4.6) 1gig ram, 7200rpm drive

4 peices of 23" ADC did start to get bad after 1,5-2 years,persistance / ghosting made me choose another brand for my next investment. Too bad, they look great and are good in the beginning, but I think it´s´a matter of quality,It´s not as good Apple did say in the beginning and still for me are ignoring.
Been a mac addict since 1988 and have bought almost every model that been sold, this is my first and big mistake.
As I work in video / print design for broadcast ,posters ,etc ,I really need quality........
I am working with a 2x KVM DVI switch connected to 7 Macs (G5:s and one PC)
4 x23" screens ( a pretty set up), a tablet and so on, The screens make it look "top gear" but the truth is I will choose another brand next time......

• HT5071 How do I get and english version of Jeremy Clarkson's newest book for ipad?

How do I get an english version of Jeremy Clarkson's newest book for ipad?

Just FYI, you've posted in the wrong place, this part of the discussions site is for iBook Author, you should post in iBooks.
Anyway, if you're on your mobile device, you open IBooks (you may have to download the app from the AppStore, I don't think it's there by default), tap 'store', and search for 'Jeremy Clarkson'. Latest book I could see is "the Top Gear Years".
If you're on your mac, the iBook store can be accessed via iTunes, downloaded, and then sync your iPad.
Hope that helps.

• Navigation bar floating, can't seem to position to top

Could use a second set of eyes. Bought a theme template and did some adjustments in DW. For the life of me, I cannot figure out why the navigation bar - "top_bar" - is floating. it should be positioned at the top of the page. The footer also seems to be floating.

Not sure if this is a css or php issue. I can deal with css, php is a little tougher on me. Guidance would ure be appreciated.

I've been doing the drinking part...believe me!
Here is the grid.css code. It seems only directed to the tablets, etc...which is maybe what you were saying...or is there supposed to be something in there directed at the full page site and it is missing?

• Setting JLabels to be on top.

I'm making a Deck Card that shuttle and sorts the card. I was able to display the images using a JLabel with ImageIcon. I can get to display the images and everything, but my only problem is when i'm display the image that the first image is on top of the second and the second is on top of the third.
I want it to display the opposite order so I want the first one to be under the second and the second to be under the third.
Is there a way that I can get the a label to be on top of the other?
I forgot to mentioned that they have different X and Y Coordinates.

Actually in any panel etc you have a layout which layouts the componsnts in his own way. So you need a layout that displays components as they are.
Try running following code:
import java.awt.*;
import javax.swing.JFrame;
import javax.swing.JLabel;
import javax.swing.JPanel;
import javax.swing.JScrollPane;
import javax.swing.border.LineBorder;
public class LayoutPanel extends JPanel {
public LayoutPanel() {
setLayout( new EmptyLayout( new Dimension( 400, 300 ) ) );
JLabel[] labels = new JLabel[10];
for( int i = 0; i < 10; i++ ) {
labels[i] = new JLabel( "Label " + i );
labels.setVerticalAlignment( JLabel.TOP ); // show text at top position
labels[i].setLocation( 13 * i, 13 * i ); // set location
labels[i].setSize( new Dimension( 100, 100 ) ); // set size
int colour = i + 10;
labels[i].setBackground( new Color( 9 * colour, 10 * colour, 11 * colour ) );
labels[i].setBorder( new LineBorder( Color.black, 1, true ) ); // set border
labels[i].setOpaque( true ); // set to draw its all pixels
add( labels[i], 0 ); // set at top means last on top, otherwise use add(labels[i]) to set first on top
public static void main( String argv[] ) {
JFrame frame = new JFrame( "Polygon Demo" );
LayoutPanel layout = new LayoutPanel();
frame.setContentPane( new JScrollPane( layout ) );
frame.pack();
frame.setDefaultCloseOperation( JFrame.EXIT_ON_CLOSE );
frame.setVisible( true );
class EmptyLayout implements LayoutManager {
private Dimension size = null;
EmptyLayout( Dimension size ) {
this.size = size;
public void addLayoutComponent( String name, Component comp ) {}
public void removeLayoutComponent( Component comp ) {}
public Dimension preferredLayoutSize( Container parent ) {
return size;
public Dimension minimumLayoutSize( Container parent ) {

• All episodes don't show up in Grid view

I've got 20 seasons of Top Gear all converted and waiting to be added to iTunes. They exist on my external HD, so when I drag them in to iTunes I hold in Alt/Option, so they stay there.
If I drag in the folders for seasons 1 through 13, all episodes show up, and if I select the show in iTunes I see "tabs/buttons" for Season 1, Season 2, etc etc. Pic here: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/2213114/2013-08-23_18-05-00.jpg
However if I drag season 1 through 14 (or more), only season 1 shows up in iTunes grid view. However all episodes/season show up in List view, and all are available on my Apple TV.
If I drag just, say, season 14 through 20, they add fine. But if I then add 1 through 13, again only 1 season shows in Grid view.
In all cases the correct number of "New" episodes shows on the blue banner on the cover (i.e "99+").
Top Gear generally has about 6 to 10 episodes per season.
I have exactly the same problem with The Simpsons.
All my other shows added fine. Just The Simpsons and Top Gear had issues. I doubt it's a co-incidence those are the only 2 shows I have with hundreds of episodes and 20+ seasons each. It's almost as if iTunes has some kind of limit…
Running iTunes 11.0.5 and OS X 10.8.4.

Your website has a link to a feed at
http://feeds2.feedburner.com/CrossCultureCalvaryChapelPodcast?format=xml
This feed contains the itunes:new-feed-url tag, forwarding to a feed at
http://calvarychapel.nl/index.php?option=comsermonspeaker&task=podcast&feed=RSS2.0&nohtml=1
This latter feed is what is being used when you click on the 'subscribe' button in the iTunes Store, and the result matches the feed. (The list you have under 'Podcasts' in your own iTunes application probably includes earlier episodes: removing them from the feed doesn't remove them once downloaded, but the removed episodes don't show for new subscribers).
However, the iTunes Store page lists 114 episodes, the last being 28-3-09, thus not showing later additions, and shows earlier episodes present in neither feed. Therefore the page has the correct feed link for subscribers but itself has not updated since March - since when you have changed the URL and deleted earlier episodes. Why this should be I can't say: there is usually a delay before changes show, but only a day or two. It's peculiar that it should have failed to update the Store page but has the correct link on the 'Subscribe' button, and I can only suggest you try contacting Support:

• YouTube once accessed, then gradual iTunes shutdown & iPad slowdown

Seems to be a popular issue lately, so I assume apple is working on it.
My account:
First noticeable issue was when accessing YouTube to watch a clip from the DNC, & it took forever to play. One month ago I downloaded the first GOT season to see if it was anything like the books, & the downloads kept slowing down a bit. The blue track bar during video would halt, stop downloading, or not play through once download complete. So then I decided to be patient & wait for my downloads to finish before viewing. Well, the DNC clip wouldn't even load. 30 seconds (+/-) of pay and refused after that. That was 2 days ago.
So within 2 days it kind of manifested like a bad illness. As in, no issues for the last month since overdosing on Game of Thrones downloads, then I stop by YouTube for the DNC & here's the order of frustrating failures:
Pending iTunes purchases just aren't downloading.....last night I even "watched" as it loaded 1 megabyte every 5 minutes. I can't get through to YouTube at all. Emails are crawling in. "you do not have permission to access the requested resource" pops up when I try to play a video that I bought from iTunes that was fully downloaded, an episode of top gear. I was able to watch the half downloaded episode last night, until the download started crawling, but not today. I can't even update any apps or download them either now. I tried to download the USAA app, and it just sat in waiting status for a day. Then I thought to try an update on an app that won't break my heart to lose, & thus eBay was my lab rat, & it just refused to download.
My response was to shut down & restart, I can't say how many times. Each time, varying the length of time it was shut down, up to an hour. Then I started deleting videos & apps like crazy, clearing another 10 GB of space, since I put MSCL in the cloud then I can pull it out later, like all of these iTunes purchases that I previously backed up.i even cleared out my bulk & trash folders in mail. Then I went to settings, cleared safari history & cookies if that was involved, then went to diagnostics........the iPad has sent more reports in the last 2 days than it has in the last 6 months when I bought it (3rd gen). The only diagnostics, actually (I just pulled it up to review) prior to the last were a couple of "low battery" reports. Within the last week (per the date stamp in the header) the reports have been: a long series of "awdd_2012-09-0X........" and the time stamp & the rest of its own code; about 20 app crashes headed by "Latest Crash-iBooks....." or Facebook or anything; FaceTime; "hog_2012-09-06......."; "mobile mail & date etc...."; and "log-aggregated-2012-09-06......".
Randomly the apple Id login would pop up, usually delayed after I started a download. Came up 3-4 times, I rejected the first few times but by the time I actually consented it was already really obvious that the iPad was having an issue with data moving slower than cosmic development, & it was likely to complete something I initiated. Knowingly at least.
No issues with latest version of iPod touch, but that doesn't get as much action as the iPad.
To be fair, I don't access questionable sites or open questionable emails, I'm a pretty safe consumer & not too curious about what's on the web, but it's just something I think you can't ever be too secure with. Top corporations with big deal security still get hacked, I'm not a remarkable target like that but for sure an easy victim. Either way, I don't think it was anything out of the ordinary that I did to bring this on. I really think it was when I accessed YouTube, & a lot of posts say the same thing. MY reason for writing so much specifically was because it went beyond that & even beyond the iTunes issues to the point where it's slowing everything down. Yesterday was the first time Ive ever seen a sending status bar for an email, a one sentence email. At least in the last 15 years, for sure.

Yes, I'm out of warranty period.
No, i wasn't practiced a regular shutdowns. I'm exactly like you was able to go months without restarting or shutting down my pad. Except of occasional miss of battery recharge.
No, i am usually do not restart my device if apps do not ask for it (and they usually won't).
First time at all i noticed the problem when forgot to put iPad on recharge and found it powered off.
I thought i was unable to start it because of empty battery, but then, issue repeated when i was aware that iPad still had more than half of battery charge.
Later i noticed that iPad did random shutdowns by itself. By that time the only way to power back my iPad to home screen was [home]+[power] combination.
Now it even after a fresh restore being empty factory reset, iPan fails to start to home screen starting to restore mode.

• BT Infinity 80/20 true download speed not matching...

I upgraded to the BT Infinity 2 (80/20) service in April having previously been on the Infinity 1 (40/2) service. However since then no matter what time of day (or night) I try I cannot truly download anything at close to the speed I was quoted.
The speed I was quoted for my line was 76/20 and from running the BT speed test I believe my IP profile is set to 77.43 down and 20 up. The download speed quoted from the BT speed test site appears to reflect this:
BT speedtester: 72.28Mbps/9.51Mbps (ip profile 77.43 down and 20 up) although upload seems low.
I also get a similar result from speedtest.bbmax:
BBMax: 74938kbps / 12139kbps
However whenever I attempt to actually download anything at all (windows files, bbc iplayer download, thinkbroadband files, and many other download files) I get no where near this and tend to average around 35Mbps-45Mbps. The speed/download also seems to fluctuate and pause quite a lot. The highest speed I have ever got that lasted for more than a few seconds was around 54Mbps but this was a one off.
Here are the results of some other tests I ran:
Speedtest.net (Dublin): 58.88Mbps / 10.18Mbps (I live in Belfast and this seems best one)
Visualware Single Threaded: 48.1Mbps / 17.0Mbps (this seems to closely reflect what I see on downloads)
I am testing with Ethernet cable direct to BT HomeHub 3 (so no wifi or powerlines) and I have tried 3 different PC's/Laptop's just to rule out any issue with my own PC, setup, etc. I've also tried switching off firewalls, antivirus, etc.
I am hoping someone can please help with suggestions of what this could be. At the moment I can only think of congestion (that's 24/7!!), or there is some issue with my profile (maybe its set too high?), or there is throttling at play here (I have read from other posts that there have been problems in Northern Ireland so maybe this is BT trying to stabilise things?).
Any help appreciated.
Thanks

Cheers for the advice. I'll try out a few of the download managers you mentioned to see what I get.
Makes sense I suppose although the visualware results I am getting are still throwing me (when I know others are getting much better) and that's perhaps playing into my thoughts something strange was going on. The fluctuations and pauses/delays are still slightly annoying too but maybe that's another story...
Trust me, it will solve your speed issues! Oh and below is a screenshot I just took of a download I did from bbc iplayer, top gear episode which was nearly 600mb & downloaded in less than 1 minute, maxed out my connection at just over 9mb/s, the transfer rate in the image is a tad bogus as I max out at 9.4mb/s, not 9.7 it shows but you get the idea
Finally got chance to try the IDM download manager tool as well as a couple of others and I got the high speeds (very similar to what you had) so I guess I can see my higher speeds being used after all :-)
I'm still a little bit wary that my connection isn't the best as does still seem to fluctuate and pause a lot and my ping is usually high 30's or 40's whereas I have seen other people report getting ping in the 20's.
However happy to mark this as resolved. Cheers for everyones help.

I must say I am bit of a geek as well when it comes to fantasy and sci-fi books and movies, and I have been known to dabble into anything ranging from studying German to playing the guitar (so far quite badly, but I’m getting there!), though at the moment my main personal interest is astronomy. I am originally from Italy so at least I have the Italian language covered pretty well!
Working in BT:
I have been with BT since the 25/09/06 (I still remember the date!) and I initially worked taking billing calls. Since then, I have gained experience in pretty much every other aspect of customer service working via all sorts of mediums (calls, emails, Live Chat, blogs, Twitter, and – obviously – forums). I have been a moderator on this forum since its Beta inception and I now work with SeanD as Community Manager. My time in BT has been challenging at times but I've thoroughly enjoyed the experience and wouldn't change it!
