"Last Import" never clears out
I've been manually importing 10-12 video tapes into imovie. The Last Import Event Library NEVER clears out to reflect the last tape I imported. It continues to show all videos imported. This must be a bug. Anyone else seeing the same thing?
are they in photos view or last 12 months?
What version of iPhoto? Of the OS?
Back up your iPhoto library, Depress and hold the option (alt) and command keys and launch iPhoto - rebuild your iPhoto library database

Manually Reset AddressBook Last Import list
I don't understand why Apple has not fixed this silly bug after so long, probably because there is not enough complaints about it, but here is a solution for those who needs to migrate multiple address books for users who are migrating to Mac.
This is for removing multiple addresses from the last import list, to remove a single address it has been reported that saving the address entry after any change will remove it from the Last Import list.
All address data in AddressBook 5 seems to be stored in a sqlite datafile in
~/Library/Application Support/AddressBook/AddressBook-v22.abcddb
The instructions provided here works for AddressBook 5.02, I don't know about other versions.
Remember to make a backup copy for the address book data file before proceeding with the following!!!
To remove addresses from the last import list, get a sqlite GUI for example SQLite Manager add on for firefox.
Open the AddressBook datafile and run this sql statement
update ZABCDRECORD set ZDISPLAYFLAGS = NULL where ZDISPLAYFLAGS = 128
the addresses will now be removed from the Last Import list.
Now you can reset the Last Import list after adding multiple last imported addresses into a group and move on to the next group of addresses to import.
If only the AddressBook Last Import can work as it should!Last Import of addressbook... mine is not clearing like many others I've seen and I'm migrating into addressbook and want to bring in groups from my nudc... here is what I did to get my groups in...
1. clean up addressbook- got rid of any ungrouped entries
2. import my vcf group... now in addressbook it's mixed with junk not clearing from "last import" so I can't just move them to the new group...
3. BUT all these last imported are in the smart "no group"... so I select all from that smart group and drag into the new group and voila.
4. I ignore the last import group... I don't want to mess w/sql file cleanups etc...
I never noticed a problem w/last import not clearing before... pain in the butt an needs fixing by apple. -
Programatic import can't clear out a property of data-type="set"
Our catalog repository has a item-descriptor for a "sku" that has a property named "modelProfiles" which is a data-type="set". This allow our SKUs to have a one-to-many relationship with ModelProfile components.
We programmatically import and update these SKUs through gsa-xml files. This usually works great, but the problem I am having is that there appears to be no way to "clear out" the set that a given SKU is connected to. I can add to the set, I can reduce the members of the set, but when I try to make an individual SKU's set empty, the BCC project shows the related SKU as unchanged (meaning that it still has all of its SKUs).
How can I clear out a property of type "set" using gsa-xml like...
<pre>
<update-item item-descriptor="sku" id="sku160005">
<set-property name="modelProfiles" value="__NULL__"></set-property>
</update-item>
</pre>
Our custom calalog.xml entry for this mess looks like...
<pre>
<item-descriptor name="sku">
<table
name="the_sku_modelprofile"
type="multi"
id-column-name="sku_id" >
<property
name="modelProfiles"
data-type="set"
column-name="model_profile_id"
component-item-type="ModelProfile"
display-name="Model Profile"
category-resource="theBasics"
required="false" >
<attribute
name="resourceBundle"
value="the.commerce.ProductCatalogTemplateResources"/>
<attribute name="propertySortPriority" value="-55"/>
</property>
</table>
</item-descriptor>
</pre>
As always, any help is greatly appreciated.You just need
<update-item item-descriptor="sku" id="sku160005">
<set-property name="modelProfiles" value=""></set-property>
</update-item> -
How do you clear the Last Import file?
Every time I import new photos, previous imports are duplicated. And for every photo I import, a new import file is created. If I import 10 photos - one at a time - I end up with 10 folders, the last of which contains all 10 photos. I then have to manually delete the previous 9. I know there must be an easier way! And yes, I'm a new convert.

Welcome to the Apple user to user assistance forums
Every time I import new photos, previous imports are duplicated.
Either delete the photos from your camera card (using the camera Format command is recommended) after importing or click the hide photos previously imported square in the import window
And for every photo I import, a new import file is created.
Please explain - you should not be looking at files within the iPhoto library - the only information that you should be using is that displayed by iPhoto - no file information is available or needed via iPhoto
If I import 10 photos - one at a time - I end up with 10 folders, the last of which contains all 10 photos.
Again importing does not create folders within iPhoto - folders can only be created by user action and folders do not contain photos - they contain other folders or albums
If you are looking with the finder - do not. There are no user serviceable parts in the iPhoto library.
I then have to manually delete the previous 9. I know there must be an easier way! And yes, I'm a new convert.
So you need to explain more clearly - I know that language can be a barrier but since we can not see anything exact, clear and detailed descriptions using standard English and iPhoto terms is very important - and do not use the finder to make any changes of any sort to the iPhoto library
LN
The last import is not a file - it is an album showing the photos last imported - albums do not duplicate photos - they point to them and take virtually no space -
Why isn't my last import saving? I can import the pictures from the memory card, but if I close out iPhoto the just "imported photos" are nowhere to be found. Please help
Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

I have tried to reboot my computer three times, but that hasn't worked. I have tried clearing out hard drive space and that hasn't worked.

What exactly does this mean? Your iMac doesn't authorize anything. Are you getting an error message or what message are you getting with regard to authorizing? The iPad is not authorized? What?
No do not restore yet. -
Time Machine, Disk Utility, and clearing out corrupted snapshots
Hi, all. I've been having some troubling issues with Time Machine and could use your collective insight.
I have a 500GiB external USB2 disk that I've been using for Time Machine since December (the oldest snapshot in Backups.backupdb is named 2007-12-13-222250). Everything worked fine until sometime in late January, when Time Machine decided to ax 2/3 of my Applications directory. Time Machine's logging is terse, so I wasn't able to determine what caused the corruption. The fact that this error wasn't caught and flagged by Time Machine bothers me.
Especially because I discovered this in the process of needing to recover from a crash on my laptop's hard drive -- I had to roll back to a previous, complete snapshot to get all my applications back.
After that I had to engage in some jiggery-pokery to get Time Machine to re-snapshot everything, but things proceeded normally until I received my new copy of DiskWarrior 4.1 last night (although DiskWarrior is an innocent bystander here). I tried to use DiskWarrior to rebuild the directory on the Time Machine disk, but it failed before trying to write anything.
(For those who care: after some back and forth with Alsoft tech support, we determined this was likely because my Time Machine volume has 6.2GB of catalog data, and DiskWarrior works by rebuilding the directory in memory, so it has to be able to fit the whole catalog into virtual memory.)
I was a little paranoid that something might be wrong with the disk after that, so I fired up Disk Utility and told it to repair the disk. It churned for about 6 hours and repaired an extraordinarily large number of hardlink reference count errors, but completed by claiming that the disk had been repaired.
When I next told Time Machine to run, instead of copying over a couple GB of data like it usually does, it started copying 38GB! ***? I took a look at the previous Time Machine snapshots, and discovered that Disk Utility had totally corrupted every snapshot I'd made since last month's fandango. Most of the root-level directories in the snapshots now look like this:
$ ls -al /Volumes/Time\ Machine\ Backups/Backups.backupdb/xxx.net/2008-03-13-025640/Euphrosyne/

That is clearly, completely wrong, and it alarms me that Disk Utility could cause so much damage to a Time Machine volume.
Since I also use SuperDuper! to regularly clone this disk, it's not as big a nightmare as it could be, but this means that I'm going to have to clear out every snapshot for the last month by hand, both because I obviously can't trust them anymore, and because I keep getting messages like this in the logs:

I'd like to keep the old snapshots if I can. What's likely to happen if I just go and clear out the b0rked backup sessions by hand?
(Hmm... it appears yes, because I just deleted them all and the disk didn't recover the freed space.)
Here's the important question: has anyone else had issues using Disk Utility on a Time Machine volume, and does anyone at Apple have any plans to add integrity checking to Time Machine? As it stands, I don't really feel like I can trust it in its present form, as convenient as it is...I have trouble with disk utility on my new (1 TB Lacie) as well as on my old (500 GB WD) drive. After doing a backup, du tells me a never ending list of errors like
HasFolderCount flag needs to be set (id = 599567)
(it should be 0x10 instead of 0)
Everything was O.K. before doing the backup; so is the disk to be backupped, according to du.
Up to now, no other problem occurred, but I´d like to clear this issue before my trust in time machine is restored. -
My iTunes Library cleared out after the forced shutdown, how to recover it?
So here is the thing, yesterday as usual, i was adding songs to my 10,000 tracks library's super organized as i do most of the time. Then i decided to shut down the computer instead of just putting in of just hibernating him as i always do.. So my habit was to just close the laptop, this time i had it clicked to shut down but then i closed it before it really turned off. That means today when i opened it back it still was asking me if i really wanted to force quit the applications i had still opened, i said 'yes' and then the computer truly shut down. Then i restarted it again, opened browser, and when i open iTunes ALL my library was simply gone!
I know that i didnt trashed any of the .itl or .xml files the day before so i really shocked when i saw it I dont know why did it happened, i wasnt updating iTunes or anything else..
I went to 'iTunes' Folder in 'Music' folder, and there were the 'iTunes Library' .itl and a 'iTunes Library (2)' files along with the usual Extra, Genius .itl files and the .xml too.
So ive searched on the thrash that by casualty still had files from TEMP folder i had erased a few weeks ago, and there only Extra and Genius .itl files but no iTunes Library .itl file... So it was not a thing happened by my manual deleting.
I've tried re-installing the latest version of iTunes i found on the site (it was just a 'repair' since the version was up to date) and opened it again and there was still nothing :/
I checked 'Previous iTunes Libraries' folder and f****! The newest file was from March this year (2012), i knew that ive added hundreds of new songs since that date and one other thing, i knew that date was not the latest update ive done to iTunes, the last one was for sure way after that kinda something in May or June so i dont know too why did it not appeared that .itl file.
So i tried opening that 'iTunes Library (2)', and from my 10k songs it would only show ~8900 and then i tried the 'iTunes Library' from March and it would only show 9000 songs, So i guess im ****** up by 1000 songs difference... That is a lot a still, since they were all organized by Name, Artist, Album, Genre, Year, Rate, Times Played, Artwork,etc..
So now i have serious problems..
Do you have any suggestion on ways i could follow in order to find my 'Yesterday' Library infos and songs? With all the stuff it had? Like rewinding in time?
Even if you dont, and presuming i would want to add those 1000 missing files from the iTunes Music folder where, dont know why, says i have 14k songs, which is very strange since i always delete to recicle bin all the songs i want to clear out from the Library so they wont stay in folder and not in iTunes, so how could i add those missing 1000 without adding those other 9000 that would be repeated??
Please, somebody help me with this, because at this moment im really out of solutions and my Library and its organization are "my babies" and it would be a devastating loss to me if i have to ruined this way :SReinstalling iTunes won't ever repair damaged libraries or find lost files.
Unlike nearly all Windows software double-clicking an iTunes Library file does not necessarily open the selected database. Rather, iTunes opens the last database it successfully opened, or if that was in the "normal" <User's Music>\iTunes location, but is missing, it will create a new empty library.
You can open an alternate library file, or create a new one, by holding down shift as you start iTunes. Although you can open the library files in the Previous iTunes Libraries folder this way, your library will perform better if you restore the archived library database to the main iTunes folder in the way that I have described.
Your most recent library may be present in the main iTunes folder as a .tmp file, or recoverable via a file undelete tool, however either of these files, if found, may be partially corrupt getting you no further forward.
The two most recent releases of iTunes were June 11th and March 28th 2012..
Yes I read your post, but I don't know if you know all of the above. If you had a full backup of your library you could just restore that. It is possible that what you've tried so far hasn't yet brought back the most complete version of your library that is available to you. As a last resort you will have to work with what you have and add in whatever media is not in that version of your library, accepting the loss of recently added ratings, playlists & play counts.
You can simply add the entire iTunes Media folder using File > Add Folder to Library folder which should ignore everything already in the library and only add new (to that database) stuff. If there is any chance that your iTunes media folder contains .m3u playlist files the import process will also import all of those, which may not be what you want. iTunes Folder Watch would then present a better approach.

Having trouble with imports never finishing
I am having trouble with imports that never finished. It is almost like the pictures are stuck on one image. the only way to get out of Iphoto is to force quit. The next time I open, there are a number of images that still need to be imported, but the import never finishes and seems to stop at the same image. When I go to close down I get the message that Photos are being imported to the library.
Anyone have any suggestions.
ThanksPhoto:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Check out your iPhoto library and make sure all photos are viewable and there. Force quitting when iPhoto is working can corrupt the database file, Library6.iPhoto. Make a backup copy of it and save in another folder.
First make a backup copy of your iPhoto Library folder. Now download and run BatChmod on the iPhoto Library folder with the settings shown here, substituting your account name for mine. You can either type in the path to the folder or just drag the folder into that field. Open iPhoto and see if it will work OK.
If not, launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library. Select all options.
Lastly use iPhoto Library Manager to rebuild the library. Here's how:
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your User/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File->Rebuild Library menu option
In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
Click on the Create button.
Note: It can take some time to create the new library if you have a lot of photos. One user reported that with a library of about 5,000 images it took about 12 hours so plan ahead.

Time Machine not backing up iPhoto "Last Import"
I had a computer failure and had to restore from Time Machine. Everything was perfect except some iPhoto photos (everything from "Last Import") were not restored. Saw from many other posts here that I am not alone.
After seeking advice in the iPhoto forum, and trying many different ways of trying to repair the iPhoto library (you can read the saga: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2765769), it became clear that Time Machine just never backed up those photos, so there was nothing to restore. (Album/event data was intact, so I see the album/event info, and sometimes the thumbnails, I just can't access any originals - I get the dreaded question mark icon).
I've done more testing on my machine (Macbook Pro 10.6.6 with iPhoto '09) - the directory with the last import photos within Pictures/iPhoto Library/Originals/ just never gets backed up by Time Machine until it is no longer the last import. Strangely, on an older Macbook we have (10.5 with iPhoto '08), the last imported directory is backed up by Time Machine immediately when the next backup occurs.
Is there a setting I can change somewhere? Or any other explanation of why this is happening? I lost 159 photos as a result, and this doesn't appear to be a fluke, others have this exact same problem. I realize there are other threads with this issue (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=10705622), but all the ones I have found are locked from replies, and none have really shed any light on my particular situation.
Any help is much appreciated! Trying to avoid repeating the lost photos if I ever need to restore from Time Machine again.
Thanks,
JonI'm sorry I missed your question, I've had my head down in work and not checking.
By Apple Backup I mean the application that Apple has had for yonks, with the Umbrella icon, it does seperate incremental backups to where ever you wish - iDisk, DVD/CD or HD - I have a FW drive that I use for Backup backups, and each week I back THOSE up to a DROBO 4 Tbs Mirror RAID (might sound paranoid but I have twice rebuilt one of my iPhoto libraries from these backups) using SilverKeeper from LaCie. This is with my main and biggest work MacPro - where all the most precious work lives.
The startup drive is backed up weekly by Superduper. Each application has qualities that I use for those specific events.
The reason I've been doing iPhoto this way is because some years ago there was an issue with how much of the library was backed up in a clone or incremental backup - I can't remember the specifics of it, but I used to use Carbon Copy Cloner and before that Rendezvous - Rendezvous went through a bad period and CCC kept giving me errors, reported errors, that might not have been important but I felt uncomfortable with it, hence the Backup scenario - I have found Backup really reliable for the past couple of years and same with SuperDuper. I'm sorry I am not helping you with your current issue though.
With our two Internet/Accounting Macs I use BOTH TM and Superduper. -
How to clear out personal info a preform a recovery
I just bought a new HP laptop but want to clear out personal info and do a recovery to original settings. I do not have restore disks and don't want to wait to order some nor pay for them. My computer is a HP Pavillion dv681 with vista operating system
You will need five DVDs. Do not use no-name generic DVDs! I use Verbatim DVD+R disks and have never had issues making a working recovery disk set. Creating recovery media requires the use of the power adapter. It must not be done while on battery power alone.
List of DVD bland media rated by quality.
While booted into Windows click on the start orb and select HP. You should see HP Recovery Manager and HP Recovery media creation. Now select the HP Recovery media creation. Click on it and follow the prompts. This may take about an hour to complete with DVDs.
Newer notebooks allow the use of USB flash drives ( also known as thumbdrives) for recovery media. Your notebook requires a 16 GB thumbdrive to do this. This method is superior to use of DVD disks for a couple of reasons. USB thumbdrives are far more durable and allow for incredibly fast recovery times. A USB flashdisk recovery thumbdrive will last five years or more depending on the quality of the thumbdrive. Buy a high quality one such as Sandisk, Corsair or OCZ. USB 2.0 is the standard.
Using the downloadable UBS recoveryflash disk creation utility.

Why not just tell me "We've never seen this before" or "We've got no other reports of this happening" line.

rwethereyet,
Keeping your pictures safe is definitely important! Once you have synced the saved pictures to your phone you can transfer them from the phone to your computer. Are you using the Verizon Cloud Desktop app?

Not able to clear out a formula field value when variables are equal to 0
I am trying to calculate the difference between a formula field from a main report and a formula field from a subreport. When i run the report i get a correct difference calculation only when both formula fields have a value different than 0. When both values are 0 then the difference calculation shows the last item quantity from the formula field in the subreport that had different values than 0. It looks like the difference calculation is not being clear out before jumping to the next value calculation.
