Last name adds automatically in contacts

One of my contact's last names automatically keep showing up....not sure if it is cause they are on icloud or what? Any help? It is quite annoying at i hate it.
Thank you

Hello Dlawn,
normally you should fill in the top two fields with the first and last name when creating a new contact item.
Did you always write there the names in the correct order?

  • Change first name/last name convention for individual contacts

Hello. First off, I'm aware of how to set the convention globally under System Preferences. However, what I'm looking for is the ability to set this for individual contacts. This is an issue, because not everybody has an English name, but for those that do, firstname/lastname works better than lastname/firstname -- the reverse is true for those without one.
Basically I just need a way to change this setting for individual contacts. Is there a way?

There's no way to edit the setting individually. However, there's nothing to prevent you from putting a first name in the last name field or vice versa if it suits your needs better.

  • Delete the "last names" of all my contacts

    Hello
I would like to use an AppleScript to delete all the "last names" of all contacts of address book. Anyone could help me with the code?
    Thanks

No update will "kill your contacts" if you are syncing them to a supported address book or cloud service as intended.

  • 2.0 firmware causes some contacts with same last name to not be displayed

After upgrading to 2.0 it appears that only the first contact for a given last name is shown in contacts. Interestingly, if i search for that last name all of the contacts show up, so they are indeed syncing to the phone but are not able to be viewed in the regular contact list. I tried restoring the phone (imported settings from last sync after restore) and still have the same problem. Anyone else see the same thing?

I'm not aware of anyone called just "John"! Everybody I know has at least a first name and a last name... therefore that is the data I enter into Address Book and iSync works fine for me and all my Sony Ericsson phones.
If you don't provide the required data, you can't really expect iSync to work correctly.
There is a reason for this... its because most phones don't split First and Last Name into two fields like Address Book does. So, if you have a contact named just "John" with no last name, when you sync, how does iSync know whether "John" is a First or Last name?
To get around this iSync adds a '-' into the blank field, so that when syncing back it knows where to put the data.
The solution is extremely simple, just provide Address Book with a first and last name (which AFAIK everyone has).

birthday calendar on iCloud sort by last name first name like my contacts

Curiously, the most recently inputted entries do sort properly, as do all company entries.
Does that mean "most recently inputted" AFTER you upgraded to Snow Leopard?
If that is true, it would mean that something about your existing records before the upgrade, for the records that are people contacts (with first and last names) instead of business contacts, do not agree with Snow Leopard and/or Snow Leopard's version of Address Book.
This may not be feasible, but if you exported the records with this problems and then imported them, maybe they will be re-inputted so that are properly sorted.
If you use Time Machine, maybe you can use the +flying through space+ interface to restore one of the records with this problem to see if the restore process makes the record sort properly.

  • Sort order changes when adding a phonetic last name?

I have my contacts sorted and displayed by first name. If I add a phonetic last name to a contact, it changes the order of that person to the top of list. Why wouldn't it leave them in the first name alphabetic order?

Ok this is what I'm doing...
My last name is spelled with "liter."
Siri pronounces that like "a 2 liter of soda."
So I've added the phonetic last name field on the contact card to help her pronounce it like "lighter."
    On my contact info,
    First name: Bill
    Last name: Hinderliter
    Phonetic last name: Hinderlighter
If I delete the phonetic last name field... It sorts the contact perfectly.
If I add it, the contact is placed on top of all the "B's" in the list.
On a side note... I found another website with a temporary fix to this problem. The person there says to use the nickname field instead of phonetic field when getting Siri to pronounce things.

  • How to sort data (i.e. sort by last name) in a related ?

    Hello,
Is there a way to sort automatically records by "last name" in my related "contact" of my account view ?
Even manually, we do not have any arrow !
Many thanks and have a nice day.

    Thanls bobb for your reply.
It works except for the first line which is not sorted by alphabetical order.
    i.e:
    M
    A
    C
    G
    V
    Z
Does anyone have point out the same behavior ?
    Thanks again.

  • 'Sort by last name' not working in Address Book

In Address book, the 'sort' function (under preferences-General) does not work for half my contacts (all people rather than companies). This does not work for 'by first name', nor 'by last name'. This random list appears at the top of address book, followed by properly sorted entries.
Curiously, the most recently inputted entries do sort properly, as do all company entries.
    On MobileMe, everything sorts properly
On my iPhone address book, the same problem, except the random unsorted list now appears after the properly sorted entries (under the category #)
Is there any reason why this is happening, and any fix for this?

  • Default Last name for Spouse in Family infotype 0021

    Hi,
We have a requirement and wondering somebody could help me with that:
when ever we maintain the Family infotype 0021 - If the person is married the spouse last name is automatically populating in the last name field. Is there any functionality which would allow the last name of the female spouse come in as blank as it is not standard for the last name to be same as husband.
    Regards,
    Raghu

    Hello there,
Looks like defaulting last name is standard behavior in different countries specifics:

I assume you have this issue sorted now, an easy one to do too, as the above post so eloquently said!

  • ICloud adds a Last Name to my contact after I send an email - why?

I record all my Contacts in iCloud without last names, for example I will load 'John Smith' as a First Name, and leave the Last Name field blank.
When I send John Smith an email via Mail, the Contact Card will automatically change his name to John Smith Smith (ie adds a Last Name field).
I have one contact loaded as Tom , and after I send him an email, his Contact Card changes to Tom - iCloud adds a to the Last Name field.
Have been to the Genuis Bar at my local Apple Store and have had no luck.

It's Apple. Apple has taken to embracing the good old Microsoft paradigm - your OS knows what you need more than you do. Apple won't fix this 'bug' because it's not a bug to them.. it's intentional. If the last name field is left empty, then the field is filled in if possible using info from other fields. I put fist and last name in first name field because I think in terms of first names and I want contacts sorted by first names for my own quick reference. Apple doesn't like my way of thinking, so it has been incessantly trying to correct it for 4 years. Thanks Steve Jobs Jobs.

  • Mail automatically adding last name to Contact in Address Book

Here is the problem. I have a contact "John" in my address book. No last name. I have his email "[email protected]" in his card. Whenever I send and receive mails from his email address (In Apple Mail) it automatically adds the last name "Doe" to the last name field in the address book. Is there anyway to stop this?

It's DEFINITELY a bug! My wife's name is "Jac" and every time I correct the address book to be "Jac" with no surname (or no Christian name and "Jac" as the surname) with in a day or so her contact is listed as "Jac Jac."
It's not listed this way anywhere else. Her emails to me are listed with her full name, not Jac Jac.
I just checked and she was in my previous recipients listed as Jac Jac, so perhaps if I remove that entry from the previous recipients of all my machines this might stop. But it must have started somewhere!

The Contacts app continually adds last names that I edit out.  this happens across MacBook, iPhone, and iCloud.  I have even fully deleted the contact and reentered.  I am about to move to Android !!  From posts it looks like this is a common problem, but I've never seen an explanation or fix from Apple.  Does anyone know how to correct this?

It is asking if you want to delete all the iCloud contacts off your Mac (not in iCloud).
Delete them. If you keep them you will have duplicates when you turn it back on. You will have the copy you kept and another copy when they resync with iCloud

  • There's no phonetic first or last name option in add field in contact's.

Hi, trying to get siri to pronounce a name right so I saw you could just spell it phonetically and it will pronounce it that way, and when I pressed on a contact, and went to add field, there was no option to do it? help!

this looks sort of normal except both first and last name fields are empty and only FN (full name is present). It should look something like this:
    BEGIN:VCARD
    VERSION:3.0
    N:Smith;John;;;
    FN:All American Grill
    ORG:All American Grill;
    TEL;type=WORK;type=pref:(918) 207-0467
    item1.ADR;type=HOME;type=pref:;;13112 Highway 62;TAHLEQUAH;OK;74464;
    item1.X-ABLabel:bill to
    item1.X-ABADR:us
    X-ABShowAs:COMPANY
    CATEGORIES:Customers:Integrity Service's of Oklahoma
    X-ABUID:40A7F0F6-EBB7-40F5-A990-B54B98771F50\:ABPerson
    END:VCARD
If you save this vcard in TextEdit and drag it back to the address book it will import and look normal. However, this is, of course not a real solution if you have lots of entries like that. you might try tinkering with the original text file from which you imported the cards and add more fields there.

  • ISync adds a "-" to contacts with First/Last Name Blank

    Hello, I'm using iSync 2.3 with a Nokia 8800 (S40) and Sonyericsson T610.
When a contact's name is First name:John Last name:Smith, it syncs properly to my phones as "John Smith".
With First name: John Smith Last name: empty, it syncs as John-Smith-.
Same goes with a blank first name. Some of the contacts only have a first name written in, anyone knows how I can get rid of the extra -s?

I'm not aware of anyone called just "John"! Everybody I know has at least a first name and a last name... therefore that is the data I enter into Address Book and iSync works fine for me and all my Sony Ericsson phones.
