Lat-long resets to Santa Monica, CA

..all my web apps reset to Santa Monica, CA.
Gas Bag goes to Universal Studios Hollywood. In Maps, I get Santa Monica Pier.
This includes GasBag, Maps, Tides, Geo Numbers.
I actually use these apps.. what is the persistent problem?

I tried uninstall and reinstall, recommended by the "Tides" developer.
I purchased the iTouch 2G at Best Buy: there is a 14-day return for computers and some related items: my purchase was 7 October, 2008. I am running out of time, with all the problems and unanswered questions.
The screen has an annoying spot of dead pixels I can pretend is dirt between the touch screen and the glass.
I am finding the touch screen is non-responsive, or rather intermittent. Maybe my fingertip is too big? Maybe I do not have enough "capacitance" in my fingertip?
But this application simply refused to operate. I have only got it moved over to my locale, once. It allowed me to manually reset the location. It stayed there awhile, after the application was turned OFF. Then "Tides" reverted back to Santa Monica, CA. "Gas Bag" is back to Santa Monica.
"Maps" is back to Hollywood. Today, I got "Maps" back to Point Reyes Station, CA. For how long?
"Tides" would be a great "web app" for me. I sail. I have a kayak here.
iTouch 2G would be a great internet device for me.
I live in a rural place. WiFI is here. Cell phone service is not. I can recharge it in my passenger vehicle.
I don't know anything about Skyhook. I have no information about it. I read their website. I don't think it is here.
There are other useful and reliable "web apps" for the iTouch 2G I have purchased.
However, I cannot spend this much time on a device that is intermittent in performance. I'll take the 15% "restocking fee" and call it quits, until Apple "gets it together" if it "gets it together". Frankly, I don't think I will be back. There is no "quality control".
It cost me this time, to be an "early adopter" but I really thought Apple iTouch having been through 1st Generation was "ready for prime time".
I can purchase the Asus Eee PC with Linux for only a little more.
The main thing for me is I saw Steve Jobs talk on his iPod Touch 2G. And, he said it had internet. I waited. I waited a little more. I made the purchase.
I already have practically non-existent service from prepaid AT&T/Cingular.
I naturally thought I could have VoIP. Maybe with "fring" and IM+ Skype (on another thread, here)? I can't get straight answers. I can get partial answers. I can only find incomplete information.
I have been in and out of iTunes synchronization and backup.
I am reluctant to force a restore. Best Buy may not honor the return, if I get a white screen or a "brick" I have read about. I have had white screens. I think it is time to cashier it out.

  • Why did the Santa Monica Apple Store Refuse to Replace My 85 watt 'Magnasafe' adapter as per the legal settlement paperwork that was emailed to me???

Went to Apple store in Santa Monica, with "ol Sparky", my faulty 'magnasafe' adapter that came apart at the strain relief...
The "Genius" there, refused to exchange it unless I also brought the computer.  The legal settlement paperwork just said to bring adapter, not the computer.  Store puppet said no deal, come back later.  I asked if there weren't sales records that could be used to facilitate the transaction, since I walked from the Canals to the Store, miles away.  Store puppet said no, handed me my legal notice I recieved via E-mail, and walked away.
Grrr.  6 mile walk for nothin'.  Thanks Apple!
    So, here are my thoughts...
    1.  There IS a sales record, or I would not have gotten a legal notice via email about the settlement.  The guy at the store lied to me.
    2.  The paperwork DOES NOT mention a requirement for bringing in the computer to replace the power adapter.  Guy lied again.
    3.  Apple does not apparently want to fix the problem.  Guy was consistant with this outcome.

You need to bring in both the mac and the adaptor.  You were misinformed, I don't know why the legal notice you recieved didn't mention that.  Read this article: http://www.topclassactions.com/lawsuit-settlements/lawsuit-news/1456-apple-macbo ok-power-adapter-class-action-settlement- in which it states the following
"If you did not buy a replacement but your MagSafe adapter shows signs of Strain Relief Damage (e.g.; fraying, melting, straining, sparking, weakening, discoloration, bubbling, overheating and/or separation of the Adapter’s strain reliefs) now or in the future, you can claim a free replacement under Apple’s Adapter Replacement Program by taking your adapter and computer to an Apple Retail Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider or contacting AppleCare. "
Here is also a KB document from Apple that also states "Be sure to bring in the computer used with the adapter; it is required to process potential adapter replacements."  http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4127
You can get one, just go back with your mac.  I know this is probably inconvenient (I wouldn't want to carry my mac 6 miles either), but it will resolve your issue.  Good luck

  • How to create a polygon with the Lat/Long Coordinates

I have set of Lat/Long coordinates and I need to create a polygon geofence. Can any of you know how to do this please share your thoughts with me
    I have the following coordinates
    -84.3087, 39.3465; -84.3118904, 39.3306296; -84.3265158, 39.3372422; -84.2866, 39.3371; -84.2958, 39.3284; -84.2888, 39.3241
    Thanks

Assuming these are long/lat values, the polygon can be defined as:
    sdo_geometry(2003, 8307, null, sdo_elem_info_array(1, 1003, 1),
    sdo_ordinate_array(-84.3087, 39.3465, -84.3118904, 39.3306296, -84.3265158, 39.3372422, -84.2866, 39.3371,
    -84.2958, 39.3284, -84.2888, 39.3241, -84.3087, 39.3465))

Guy from Apple store in Santa Monica forgot give me receipt. My equipment has problems and i need warranty. I bought Beats Pill speakers on Santa Monica in LA one mounth ago and now im in Poland. What can i do? I need warranty

no they gave me a new 3g 16 gig, i did ask for a 3gs....it is like for like when it comes to replacing....but i think i was pushing my, luck, but im very happy not to have paid the 139 quid, so a happy customer I am, my problem was that i was out of warranty, i did not take out the extra protection warranty ( silly yes, leason learnt... i hope so )
It was the guy who served me who was fantastic, i cannot fault him, he did not have to wave the extra monies, but he said that i seemed genuine, and the fact i did not jail brake my phone or want to, even know he prompted me to as a suggestion , maybe just maybe this all worked in my favour and the result is i have an iphone that works..... Now my issue is with O2 my telco carrier in the UK, as of Nov this year, O2 pay and go customers are in-titled to have there phones unlocked if they have had there phones for more than 12 months. My phone is 15 months old(all with O2) , so an unlock i can get, but because i have a "replacement phone", the imei number is different to what my initial phone was, they are saying i have to wait another 12 months.... I got a SMS message from O2 today that my unlock application was unsuccessful ..... because i have a different IMEI number to which i started with..... just when u think it is easy...WHAM .... so i have to take on O2 now, more phone calls etc...... Any suggestions anyone, has this happened to anyone you know ?

  • Newbie: Earth Centered Earth Fixed - Lat/Long Conversion, can it be done w/ Spatial?

This is an information request from a complete coordinate systems newbie:
    1. Does Oracle Spatial in 9.0.1 have an entry in MDSYS.CS_SRS that
corresponds to the coordinate system commonly known as "Earth Centered, Earth
Fixed" - where would I look (besides the table itself - I already tried that
with the 8.1.7 EE to no avail - it may be because I don't know enough about how
coordinate systems are referenced (the common nomenclature used) and just
didn't recognize it when I saw it.)
    2. Are there any existing pl/sql snippets of code that can handle coordinate
conversions between ECEF-Lat/Long, geodetic degrees-decimal degrees? (If yes,
where should I go to look for them? By the way, please, please say yes, there
are many such packages just like there are for unit conversions (like binary to
    hex).)
    3. Where should I look to get information on a product called Map Viewer which
was mentioned in the latest edition of Oracle Magazine (May/June 2002, p.25 -
it was said to be a part of the 9iAS suite of products - I looked all over the
documentation but didn't find any mention of it.)
Thank you very much for your time and attention!

  • How to create a circle object with center(lat/long) and radius(kilo)?

    Hi
I want to create a circle in my table, the data I have are the coordinate of center(lat/long) and the radius of the circle. The srid of the table is lat/long.
Did I have to use some fomula to compute the coordinate of three points on the circle? If it's true, is there any example procedure you can show me?
    Thanks
    Lannie

When a circle is created using SDO_BUFFER in geodetic space,
the result is a circle with stroked arcs (as in arc_densify function).
So the result from SDO_BUFFER will be a valid polygon without arcs,
but approximate circle with straight lines.
For example, in the example given by Dan, this is what you get:
    SDO_GEOMETRY(2003, 8307, NULL, SDO_ELEM_INFO_ARRAY(1, 1003, 1), SDO_ORDINATE_ARRAY(-120, 42.09003, -120.03128, 42.086958, -120.06042, 42.0779524, -120.08543, 42.0636292, -120.1046, 42.0449675, -120.11663, 42.0232424, -120.1207, 41.9999365,
    -120.11654, 41.9766391, -120.10445, 41.9549369, -120.08526, 41.9363067, -120.06028, 41.9220148, -120.0312, 41.9130321, -120, 41.9099686, -119.9688, 41.9130321,
    -119.93972, 41.9220148, -119.91474, 41.9363067, -119.89555, 41.9549369, -119.88346, 41.9766391, -119.8793, 41.9999365, -119.88337, 42.0232424, -119.8954, 42.0449675, -119.91457, 42.0636292, -119.93958, 42.0779524, -119.96872, 42.086958, -120, 42.09003))

  • Calculating distance between Lat Long points

I'm wondering if anyone out there has done this before in LabVIEW.  Does anyone have a model of the "Great Circle" calculation?  I have a file of lat/long points that I need to calculate the distance between.  Any help??
    V/r,
    Chris

I haven't done it in LV, but if you go to Wikipedia and search for Great Circle Distance you'll find the formual and an example.

  • How to get GML data in LAT/LONG format rather than LONG/LAT format

I want to generate GML from my spatial data but sdo_util.to_Gmlgeometry extracts data in LONG/LAT format where as I need it in LAT/LONG format.
Is there an easy way to extract data in LAT/LONG format otehr than parsing the gml and then switching the Lat and long.

    Hi,
I think it would have to do how you store your geometries, you might need a transformation before, notice the srsName from the resulting query:
    SELECT TO_CHAR(SDO_UTIL.TO_GMLGEOMETRY(MDSYS.SDO_GEOMETRY(2001, 8307, NULL, MDSYS.SDO_ELEM_INFO_ARRAY(1,1,1), MDSYS.SDO_ORDINATE_ARRAY(170.5,-43.5))))
    from dual
    -- Result:
    <gml:Point srsName="SDO:8307" xmlns:gml="http://www.opengis.net/gml"><gml:coordinates decimal="." cs="," ts=" ">170.5,-43.5 </gml:coordinates></gml:Point>
So without a transformation I would say it would be hard to get:
    http://trac.osgeo.org/gdal/wiki/rfc20_srs_axes
If I come across a simple solution (without some fancy manipulation of the ordinates on a custom function/package) I will post it.
    Cheers

  • Calculating distance between lat long coordinates best possible way?

    Hi,
Am proposing to have a table A with latitude and longitude values along with some other info for that lat lon in it. The number of rows of data will be more and it will be growing day by day. i am having one application which will provide a latitude and longitude value and this i have to compare with all the lat lon of the table A and fetch the nearest (distance wise) information from other columns corresponding to that lat long in table A.
what is the best method available to implement this so as to reduce the time required to compare lat lon supplied with all rows of data in table A.
    Thanks in advance.

Have a look at the spatial option from oracle. Also there is a forum dedicated to this type of questions.

  • Find driving distance between two points without using API by use of Lat & Long?

Using Google geocode API : http://maps.googleapis.com/maps/api/geocode/xml?address=thane&sensor=true
We performed get distance between search criteria entered by user and all related clubs by lat & long  stored at db.
    2. Two different points such as
    (origin: Lat1 & Long1) and (destination: Lat2 & Long2)
We tried for to get distance between these two points,
     (Lat2 & Long2) to (Lat1 & Long1)
But distance which we get by calculation is simple straight line distance
    Origin Destination
    (Lat1 & Long1) (Lat2 & Long2)
    3. This is not driving distance as google shows in exact Km
    4. For that Google provide another API (distancematrix API)
    http://maps.googleapis.com/maps/api/distancematrix/xml?origins=Thane&sensor=true&destinations=khopat&mode=driving&language=en%20-%20EN
    5. But there is limit for DistanceMatrix-Service without ClientID and client key
    100 elements per query.
    100 elements per 10 seconds.
    2 500 elements per 24 hour period.
But as element request exceeds it shows : OVER_QUERY_LIMIT error
    6. In case of Client ID and Client key
In Distance Matrix 100 000 elements per 24 hour period,a maximum of 625 elements per query and a maximum of 1 000 elements per 10 seconds.
As per this one there is option to get purchase these API but basic question is remain same for us if we are requesting single origin and multiple destination then how element calculation done by google?
But in document google says :
    Elements
The information about each origin-destination pairing is returned in an element entry. An element contains the following fields:
Status: See Status Codes for a list of possible status codes.
Duration: The duration of this route, expressed in seconds (the value field) and as text. The textual representation is localized according to
    the query's language parameter.
Distance: The total distance of this route, expressed in meters (value) and as text. The textual value uses the unit system specified with the
unit parameter of the original request, or the origin's region.

Any information that you see in a google map webpage can be retrieved using the API.  The best way of finding the tags on the webpage is to manually perform the query using an IE webpage.   Then capture the source and save to a file so you
can use a text editor to look at results.  I often on a webpage use the menu : View -  Source and then copy the source to a text file.

I took pictures for work.  I downloaded them to iPhoto, is there anyway to add the lats/longs now?  Can it be done automatically?

are you sure the lats/longs aren't there? if not, i don't know how to add them now, but you can click on the 'i' in the picture and zoom in on the map as close as possible. to get the lat/long on there beforehand you have to turn on the camera's location in the settings app. or did you accidentally post this in the iphone forum?

I know what you mean about quality control. However, you may want to try two things before you return it:
    1. Rub around the dead pixel. Google this method and you'll find more details. Sometimes the pixels can be restored to life.
    2. Put a small piece, or layered pieces, of electrical tape in the battery slot to fill in the gap. I've often done this with my apple laptops and it works perfectly. Once, when I was at the genius bar, the genius commented " Oh, good that you put the tape there and not over here like a lot of people do..." indicating that this is very common.
Should you have to? No, of course not! But if your computer is otherwise good, I would definitely try these potential solutions.
I'm afraid this is what quality control has come to. It's the same throughout the electronics industry and apple is no exception. The only company I've never had an issue with is Sony, but maybe I've just been lucky?

Does Spatial support "Earth Centered, Earth Fixed" to Lat/Long conversion? I've looked in coordinate list table but don't see "ECEF" (or anything that might by a synonym for ECEF) listed.

Spatial does not support ECEF coordinates at this time, nor conversions to/from longitude, latitude, and height above the ellipsoid. It is possible that Spatial will support ECEF in a future release of the product.
