Late 2012 iMac does't see the thunderbolt ports
late 2012 imac 3.4 i7 v10.8.5 doesn't see the thunderbolt ports in system report. both ports were working previously ( 2 wd mybookTB duos with raid 1 ). now neither port works.
TB port does work with TB to FW adapter. help.

Intermittent problems are often a result of interference. Interference can be caused by other networks in the neighbourhood or from household electrical items.
You can download and install iStumbler (NetStumbler for windows users) to help you see which channels are used by neighbouring networks so that you can avoid them, but iStumbler will not see household items.
Refer to your router manual for instructions on changing your wifi channel or adjusting your multicast rate.
There are other types of problems that can affect networks, but this is by far the most common, hence worth mentioning first. Networks that have inherent issues can be seen to work differently with different versions of the same software. You might also try moving the Apple TV away from other electrical equipment.

My iMac does not see the new Toshiba external drive in Finder or Disk Utility. How can I get it to see the drive?
From the menu bar, select
▹ System Preferences ▹ Energy Saver ▹ Power Adapter
and uncheck the box labeled Put the hard disk(s) to sleep when possible, if it's checked.
If the drive has more than one interface (USB, FireWire, Thunderbolt, eSATA), try one of the other interfaces.
Check that the data cable is securely inserted at both ends.
Try a different cable.
If you're connecting the drive through a hub, connect it directly to a built-in port on the Mac.
If you're connecting it directly, try a different port.
Disconnect all other devices on the bus, or as many as possible.
Test the drive with another Mac. Test another drive with this Mac.
If the drive is bus-powered, but has an AC adapter, connect the adapter.
Start up in Recovery mode and launch Disk Utility. Is the drive recognized?
Start up in Safe Mode and test.
Reset the NVRAM.
Reset the System Management Controller.
If the drive doesn't work under any of the above conditions, and if another drive does work with the same Mac, then the drive is malfunctioning. -
Cannot Wi-Fi Sync iPad; Appears to see iMac but iMac does not see the iPad
Like many, I have upgraded my iPad (1st Gen) to iOS 5 and for the most part, it's been an easy transistion to learn the new features. However, I've not been able to overcome a Wi-Fi Sync issue.
The iPad does recognize that it can Wi-Fi Sync with my iMac.
When it was connected via cable, I had already selected the "Sync with this [iOS device] over Wi-Fi" Option in iTunes then clicked "Apply."
Under Settings > General > iTunes Sync on my iPad, the "Sync Now" button is grey when I connect to an alternate Wi-Fi network in our house, but when I am on the same Wi-Fi network as my computer, through an Apple Airport Extreme Basestation, the "Sync Now" button becomes actively black as it if recognizes my iMac, but it does not show up under iTunes to sync.
I connected the iPad to an alternate computer which is linked to iPhone running iOS 5 on the alternate Wi-Fi Network I spoke of earlier and through which we succesfully Wi-Fi Synced, but when my iPad was linked to this same computer (connected first by cable to enable "Sync with this [iOS device] over Wi-Fi" Option in iTunes first, it still would not show my iPad. And this time, not even my iPad would see the computer when on the same network, yet I could also see the iPhone mentioned which was upstairs.
I have tried following the steps in this Help Page (http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4062) but without any change. The only thing I haven't followed to the letter is restarting my router. I did tell my Airport Basestation to restart via the Airport Utility.
Has anyone else yet experienced this issue and been able to resolve it? Please share any insight.When one device can't see another via Bonjour, it suggests a problem with how the network or the devices are handling "multicast" packets. Handling multicasts is tricky on Wi-Fi. Is there any way you can temporarily plug the iMac into the LAN port of the base station via an Ethernet cable, and try the sync that way? If that works, then it's a clear indication of multicast problems on your network.
Apple is usually very good about making sure multicasts work reliably on AirPort base stations and all Macs and iOS client devices. It would be interesting to know which generation of AirPort Extreme you have, what firmware version you're running on it, exactly which wireless security mode you're using (for instance, WPA2 "mixed mode", where both WPA2-style AES-CCMP and original WPA-style TKIP encryption are available, is trickier for multicasts because multicasts have to use a different cipher and key. "WEP TSN" is also tricky for similar reasons). Oh, and what you have your "multicast rate" set to on your base station. -
I connected my iMac to my LCD TV using an HDMI cable and then an adapter to connect to the iMac's thunderbolt port. However, I can only see the wallpaper of my iMac, but not any other application that is open. Could anyone help me resolve this issue?
The TV is seen as a second monitor, you need to drag content onto it. Just click this window and drag it to the left and it should appear on the TV. If you want the TV to mirror what you see on your iMac then you have to tell got to System Preferences - Display - Arrangement tab and click Mirror Displays.

My iMac does not see the windows machines on the network (and vice versa)
I'm runningOS X 10.8.2 on my iMac which attachs to the office network using Wi-Fi.
It's on the right network (it's not attaching to the Wi-Fi router in the bulding next door) - I've checked the SSID and it's also being issued the right IP address by the router.
I can ping the Windows machines and they can ping my iMac. The issue is that I simply CANNOT share files back and forth.
At seemingly randoms times, I can, and I have File Sharing enabled in Sharing (remember, and RANDOM times I CAN see the Windows machines and they can see the iMac...BUT, it's random).

More than likely your area has very significant RF interference in channels 1-6. The interference is making those channels unusable by you.

I'm trying to playa game called day z (not sure if many are familiar) through boot camp 5 and the newest version of windows 8 it's pretty much a must to hear everything going on around me and I can't exactly do that when the sound drivers aren't working. I've updated all of my software and still nothing is working. If anyone has a link to the newest windows 8 sound drivers it'd be greatly appreciated. Or if you have any other solutions it would be greatly appreciated!

I'd like to buy a Mackie Onyx 1620i Firewire mixer/control surface for my home studio set up. I have a late 2012 iMac 10.8.5 with Thunderbolt connectors but no Firewire. I know that Apple provide a Firewire to Thunderbolt adaptor but looking around online it seems people have had trouble getting these two pieces of kit to work together. I've read all the available info I can find online about running them.. re:correct serial number of the Mackie, the need for any drivers etc.. but doubt still hangs over the issue. Obviously I don't want to spend hundreds of pounds on the wrong piece of equipment. Has anyone successfully run the Mackie Onyx and iMac described?.. or does anyone have sufficient expertise to deliver a definitive answer one way or the other? I'd be most grateful for any help.

acolyte3Based on my experience with the Onyx and two clients of mine who have had nothing but issues with it since day one... ... I cannot recommend it for use with a Mac....
As an example of the type of issue I am referring to.... Mackie released two hardware versions of the Onyx... The first version no longer works with modern versions of OS X.... and modern Macs.. and this can be identified by the serial number of the unit as shown on their Driver information page....

For those with the first version.... Mackie left them 'high and dry' with no solution to their issues other than to buy the newer, second hardware version!
The second version.... again identified by the serial number.... has worked with OS X versions up to 10.8 but only for certain people.. Others have continued to report issues using the latest drivers and 10.8.5... and it does not appear to be supported for any version of OS X higher than 10.8.... which also means it doesn't work reliably with the more modern Macs which require 10.9 as a minimum OS X.
Based on these facts... again, I cannot and will not recommend this product for use with modern Macs and OS X versions.
Note: This is my personal opinion..... and others may have differing opinions depending on their own experiences with the product. -
Trying to see DVD drive through DVD sharing. iMac does not see MacBook. DVD sharing is ON.
I have an iMac with a non-working DVD drive and I'm trying to install Snow Leopard from my MacBook's DVD drive. I have turned DVD Sharing ON but the iMac does not see the DVD drive in Finder's Shared Devices. I have tried FireWire, LAN through TimeCapsule and WiFi. Am I missing a step?
The iMac and MacBook are both late 2007 purchases and have 10.5.8.

Disk sharing like the macbook air does is one of those things that's included in all OS X's on all computers, but that is not enabled. (I think it's cause apple doesn't want to have to support it on more devices that they absolutely have to)
So here's how you enable it.
In your Utilities Folder, open Terminal
copy and paste each line:
sudo -s
*type your password*
defaults write com.apple.NetworkBrowser EnableODiskBrowsing -bool true defaults write
com.apple.NetworkBrowser ODSSupported -bool true
shutdown -r now
Okee dokee... That last command will restart your computer, then you're off to the races! -
Speeding up my iMac late 2012 iMac with external Thunderbolt SSD
I am a motion graphics editor and would like to get better speed from my late 2012 iMac with a 3 TB Fusion Drive.
I have three questions:
1. Does the Fusion drive in this iMac always run the iOS and apps on the ssd part of the fusion drive?
2. If not, is there a way to make that happen?
3. If I add an External Thunderbolt 512GB SSD Drive, will I get a significant boost in performance by keeping the files (video and images) on the SSD, or would After Effects need to reside on the new SSD as well?
I would really appreciate help from anyone that has the expertise to answer this question.

I have a late 2012 iMac with an I5 precessor running OSX 10.8.5 and a 1tb internal hard drive. I keep losing access to the internal hard drive/startup disk.
I can reboot and everything operates as normal for a few minutes or hours but then I lose all access again to anything on the hard drive. The computer is still up and running but no files can be accessed and certain websites cannot be acessed even though internet access appears to be normal. Disk utility can only find permission errors related to iTunes which can be repaired only to come back at the next scan (I would not think permission errors would have anything to do with the hard drive crashing). It does not seem to matter what program I am using at the time access is lost and it can lose access sometimes right after reboot when no program is running.You will need to boot into the Recovery Volume (command - R on a restart or hold down the option/alt key during restart and select it) to run Disk Utility/Disk Repair.

Since Yosemite my Macbook 11inch mid 2011 (supports Thunderbolt) does not see the second thunderbolt display anymore.
My MacBookPro 13inch Early 2013 works fine, but it swaps the screens after an (re)boot.

If you are talking about using two external Thunderbolt displays (in addition to the internal display) with your Mid 2011 MacBook Air 11-inch, you may want to be aware that only a single external Thunderbolt display is supported on that model, as noted in the following article:

I've got a new late 2012 imac, but I realize yes it doesn't come with a compact disc drive. I have an Adobe Creative Suite CS5.5 install disc with all the information included (serial). I copied the contents of the CD into a USB Flash drive, but I can't get it to install because it is looking for the content on the CD. Since I don't want to have to buy the external Superdrive!! How do I convince the computer into installing adobe via the files on the flash drive?
