Late 2013 13" MacBook Pro Retina SSD Upgrade

So I just got a Late 2013 MacBook Pro Retina 128GB (MacBook 11,1) as a gift. After using the computer for a while, I realized that I need more space on my machine. So I called, chatted and went to the apple store (Walnutcreek, CA and Plano, TX) to see if they can guide me or help me on the upgrade of the drive. The representatives from all these locations said that unfortunately currently there is no upgrade options available for this machine. At one point, the rep. told me that I can ask a Apple authorized company to do the upgrade for me and my warranty will be voided but my apple care plan will still be valid and accept it for repair. They also provided me sites like: OWC, Transcend, Macsales, etc. to try and see if they have something that can help me on my issue.
But my main concern/question is that this is a "Late 2013" model and we are currently in year 2015, why hasn't apple or other companies come out with some solution to this issue?
Does anyone have other solutions that they can suggest to come around this issue?
Reminder - Late 2013 13" MacBook Pro 11,1 retina display mac
Thank you

Yes, I actually tried all these sites and notice that they currently don't have anything for MacBook 11,1 (Late 2013 13" MacBook Pro Retina).
That's why I was asking for other solutions. But thank you for the suggestion.

  • Late 2013 13" Macbook Pro Retina Out of the Box Condition

I have just purchased my LAte 2013 Macbook Pro Retina 13" 2.6Ghz i5 512 Gb. Out of the box, it won't boot because there is no charge in it, and the keys feel a little less tactile, a littile stiff than the one on my Late 2012 Macbook Pro Retina. Also when the Macbook Pro finally booted up(after i plugged in the mag safe adaptor) I checked the battery status and there is already 3 charge cycles on it. Are these normal for an expensive Macbook Pro out of the box?
    Thanks!

Whether any previously built Mac notebook of any model came out of the box with a charge in the battery doesn't mean currently manufactured unit will or does. There have been several posts on these forum about the newest units not having a battery charge. I suspect there are many more units then are represented on these forum simply because most people would actually connect the AC charger as the first step in setting up a new computer and then you have others that don't think anything about it.
Who said the battery was Discharged Deeply. Just being at 0% of a charge doesn't mean it ws Deeply Discharged. Sure it isn't the best thing to do once the battery has been charged fully to constantly discharge it to 0%.
The battery has built in circuitry
Since this is the second brand new system you have had that has come like this, and many other it seems, I would say it is normal for the newly built systems.

  • Late 2013 13" Macbook Pro Retina Battery Issues

Just got my new MacBook Pro 2 days ago and been using it for web surfing (Safari), few coding projects, skyping and listening to music mainly. Somehow the battery lasts for about 6 hours at it's best and not only that but the battery estimate is not correct at all. I charged it to 84% and it said 12 hours left then at 70% after exactly 54 minutes of battery usage it said 5 hours and 50 minutes left.
The time estimate drops fast and doesn't last that long ... I've seen similar discussions but there problems were because of Chrome or the kernel_task using the memory & CPU extensivley. But in my case, I'm not using Chrome and the kernel_task is taking around 500 - 600 of memory and fair usage of the CPU ..

Hi. I have a same problem with my new MBP 13 RETINA (late2013)
Battery life is BAD! I'm using it without Skype for 2 days, but still, just a web browsing can't kill charge so fast.
How bad is bad? How long is your battery lasting?
What does your Activity Monitor show under the Energy & CPU tabs? There does seem to be an intermittant issue in Mavericks where after coming out of sleep, the kernel_task process will start using ~100% of a CPU forever. This will drain the battery really quickly, and seems to require a reboot to fix. I run iStat menus, and it's pretty obvious in the CPU graph menu when this happens, as the graph shows a constant 25% overall CPU utilization.
When you say you are just web browsing, what are you doing? What browser, and what kind of websites?
A lot of folks on the MacRumors forums are reporting really bad battery life if they use Opera. Try Safari instead.
If you are watching Flash based videos or otherwise visiting Flash heavy websites, that will hurt battery as well. If you can import the videos you want to watch into iTunes they should use much less battery. If you are using Safari and the Flash stuff on the websites is ads or other stuff you don't need to see, install Click 2 Flash to stop it from automatically loading.
Finally, try to keep your screen brightness as low as is comfortable. Half brightness or lower can help.
I get a consistant 10+ hours of battery life using my Late 2013 system all day for browsing with Safari, editing photos with iPhoto & Preview, and creating documents with Pages. I have BlueTooth disabled, and brightness at 1/2 or less.
You can get the statistics on your battery to see if something seems wrong by installing and running the Coconut Battery utility. I'm willing to bet your issue is software and usage related though.

  • Late 2013 13" Macbook Pro Hot even if turned off

Hi Guys, has anyone encountered this issue? My late 2013 13" Macbook Pro Retina 2.6 Ghz, 8Gb Ram, 512 SSD is Hot even if it's turned off. So when I power it up, it already drained some of it's charge, and when I check the Temperature using Temperature Guage, the CPU temperature is at 59 degrees Celcius, might I stress that this reading is from a newly turned on macbook pro with out any apps running( at idle stage). My friend who bought his late 2013 13" Macbook Pro Retina 2.4 Ghz, 8Gb Ram and 258 SSD also has this issues.
Is this normal with the Haswell Chip? Because my slightly older late 2012 13" Macbook Pro Retina 2.5ghz, 8gb Ram, 128 SSD never did manifest anything like that. And when I turn it on, the battery has the same charge as when I turned it off.
    Any insights on this?
    Thanks!

Open Activity monitor to ALL PROCESSES and set %CPU to display values from high to low.  Are there any CPU gluttons that can be identified?
If your MBP is still in the warranty period, consider an appointment at an Apple store genius bar.
    Ciao.

  • Can I buy a late 2013 macbook pro retina SSD from Apple?

I bought a late 2013 model Macbook Pro with Retina 13 inch last week,
This machine has 256GB PCIE SSD, today, I think it's not enough space for me.
Can I buy an additional SSD from apple, and replace the one inside my MBP?
    How to buy?

anything that shipped with a 2.5" form factor SATA Hard Drive can be upgraded to an Apple or aftermarket 2.5" form factor SATA "SSD-in-a-can".
the early SSD-only MacBook Air models shipped with a "stick" form factor SSD-ONLY in a special SATA socket. No room for a 2.5" form factor Hard drive. OWC and perhaps some others developed some aftermarket "drives" that are compatible.
I think it is only the 2013 models MacBook Air and MacBook Pro and Mac Pro (that do not have a 2.5" hard drive option) that made the leap to the "stick" form factor with a PCIe connection with a different special connector.
These PCIe SSDs are really fast, possibly on the order of 800 MBytes/sec. Compare to a 7200RPM Hard drive's 125 M Bytes/sec burst.

  • Late 2013 13" Macbook Pro

Hi all new here and live in the UK. I've got a Late 2013 13" Macbook Pro (SSD) 256gb 8gb ram under 12 months old. I had OS X Mavericks when new and I've updated to OS X Yosemite. Now when I had Mavericks and using Blackmagic Disk Speed test I got around 680MB/s Write and 700+ on Read first screen shot. But now I'm only getting 350MB/s Write and 560MB/s on Read second screen shot (Media Name: APPLE SSD SD0256F) is this normal with updating to Yosemite????.
      Medium Type: SSD
      Protocol: PCI
    Thanks Michael.

    Hello Michael
I have a 2010 MacBook and you can imagine how slow my system would be with Yosemite. However, I just had a make a few tweaks here and there and I am now getting a comparatively a better result than before. Since you have a relatively newer Macbook, you can definitely make these tweaks and see if it works out for you.

I am unable to redownload OS X Mavericks on a Late 2013 new Macbook Pro 13". I get a message saying "We could not complete your purchase" " OS X Mavericks can not be installed on this computer"
I nee an easy way to resolve this with Apple.

why is it this problematic to resolve?! obviously there's a valid installer image for our macs, why can we not have access to it to use on our laptops?
I do not understand, nor accept the explanation given before - about it being a newer model... it doesn't make sense... how does that translate to "no download available".
also, if it was a valid point - we would have had that download with the release of 10.9.1 - which we don't.

  • Cannot connect from Mac Pro late 2013 to Macbook Pro

Cannot connect from Mac Pro late 2013 to Macbook Pro . I have tried via ethernet and wifi. I can connect from the MBP to the Mac Pro but not vice versa. I have tried to connect to other MBP's on the same network with no luck. I try and connect as a registered user, as I usually do, with no luck. When I enter the Username and then Password the box vibrates as if the details are incorrect, they are not however.
    Thanks in advance
    Jeff

It is 'just not working' again.
To answer you question. Other sharing services work. I can connect as a guest. I can share screens. I cannot air drop.
I cannot connect either way now i.e. from Mac Pro to MBP and vice versa.
I cannot connect to my wife MBP either. My wife cannot connect to my Mac Pro.
It neither works with wifi or ethernet cable.
I can connect to my Time Capsule directly and Time Machine backups are working.
    The passwords are 100% correct.
The Mac Pro is a late 2013. Does anyone else have a similar problem? I have never suffered this one before. Seriously effecting my workflow
    Thanks

  • Safe to plug my late-2013 15" MacBook Pro in Germany?

Is it safe to plug my late-2013 15" MacBook Pro into the outlet (with the appropriate adaptor) in Stuttgart, Germany?  Or will I have to use a transformer?
    Thank you.

You can get any sort of plug adapter kit - Apple even sells one (http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB974ZM/B/apple-world-travel-adapter-kit?fnode =3c).
I recall that they were once available in many electronics stores and even luggage stores. I've had the same kit from 1982 and never lost a plug!

  • Is SSD of Macbook Pro Retina Display upgradable

I have recently purchased (19th November,2014) Macbook Pro, Retina Display, 13' i5 Processor with SSD 128 GB. Now I badly want to expand my SSD with another 128 GB. Please advise me how I will do that. What is the cost for it?

    soumenfromkaiserslautern wrote:
Can't I upgrade SSD as my current One is SSD? Is not possible to upgrade SSD instead of SD?
At the present time there is NO SSD in the after market compatible with your MBP.  If you are really desperate for additional storage, you only get it by purchasing a new MBP configured with the amount that you require.
    Ciao.

  • Doubts about Late 2013 Haswell Macbook Pro with Retina

TL;DR: With its debut of so many new components (Haswell, ac wi-fi, and intel iris pro), is the late 2013 model a truly reliable laptop for 5+ years of use? Or should I buy the early 2013 which has a better history of fewer complaints because it has stuck to and fixed the problems of its predecessor's components.
I'm buying my first Mac Book Pro after in preparation for college (I will be a highschool senior this year):
My decision has come down to two refurbished products: An Early 2013 Retina Mac Book Pro and a Late 2013 Mac Book Pro
My cousin couldn't make up his mind so he accidentally ordered the mid 2012 model, then changed his mind and ordered the early 2013 model, then changed his mind again and decided on the late 2013 model after testing and comparing all 3 along with his 2011 model.
He decided on the late 2013 model http://store.apple.com/us/product/FE293LL/A/refurbished-154-inch-macbook-pro-20g hz-quad-core-intel-i7-with-retina-display
I personally was still torn between early and late 2013 because the late 2013 didnt have a dGPU.
NOW... I've been pretty convinced that the late 2013 is better in almost all aspects EXCEPT... that a quick search of its problems has brought up myriad problems...
Now you are all probably thinking (well of course u dumdum, nobody is going to complain about their mac book being fine); valid point, until my cousin's new late 2013 model started having almost ALL of the problems I researched including: wi-fi problems, constant crashing/screen freezing, rapid battery drain, random computer reboots..
I got a bit worried, so I also searched for early 2013 model problems, and almost nothing came up (in fact i just found late 2013 complaints). SO... I came to the conclusion that the late 2013 truly WAS a problem model given that the early 2013 had MUCH less complaints online, and that my cousin experienced the same problems described in the complaints for the late 2013 model.
NOW... My cousin has decided to replace what he got by returning it and getting another one... This is all nice and dandy except this time around all the problems were lucky to surface before the 14 day return. Most of the complaints described problems surfacing a few MONTHS after, which is wayyyy beyond the 14 day return policy. My cousin then tried to reassure me that no matter what, Apple was reliable and the 1 yr warranty would cover anything. This wasn't very convincing considering what had already occurred and what I had already seen from online complaints.
It wasn't very convincing BECAUSE this late 2013 model incorporated a WHOLE new bunch of new stuff... whereas the early 2013 model seemed to be pretty consistent with predecessors...
I hypothesize that all this NEW entry level stuff (ac wi-fi, intel iris pro, and haswell) is what is causing problems, and that because so many new additions are put together in concert, problems are bound to surface.
The early 2013 model has similar specs to previous models likely because it IMPROVED on the previous models mistakes. The late 2013 model debuted a lot of new things; there was not time to fix anything yet.
SOOOOOOOO... My final conclusion is uncertain... the late 2013 model is clearly designed to be better, but as an early model using so many new things, I can also see it failing a lot when I need it to last 5+ years for college.
NOW... having read my LONG post, please tell me: Early or late 2013?

I thought about doing what you said above, but unfortunately, I didn't have any spare blank DVD's. However, I was able to sucessfully install Windows & on my Mac. What I did was when I got to the error message, I would cancel the installation and that would return me back to the install now window. At that point, I would take out the flash drive and put it into another USB port. It took a few times, but eventually it recognized the drivers and allowed me to install the software. Remember, once you get past that point, the installation will ask you to choose a drive to install Windows on. Highlight the Boot Camp drive and chose "advanced", and then chose "format" after that. After all of this, it should be smooth sailing.

  • Can I support 3 external monitors on my late 2013 15" Macbook pro?

    Hello doelfke1,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
According to the technical specifications of your computer, it can support up to two external displays.

  • Have Installed Arch Linux and Xmonad on 2013 15" MacBook Pro Retina

I just recieved the latest stunning MacBook Pro Retina 15" (ME665) released in Feb 2013, couldn't wait to install the Arch Linux 2013.02.01 on it, dual boot with Mac OSX.
I'm impressed by the performance of this device after working with the combo of Arch Linux and Xmonad for several days, everything works out of the box, including touchpad, audio, video, wireless network, bluetooth, etc. Even the apperance of most apps are compatible with the high resolution of Retina display.
Another important thing is the battery life, 5 hours! Program and compile, listen music, download AOSP through Wi-Fi, watch YouTube videos with Flash hardware accelaration on.

  • Macbook Pro Retina SSD

Hello, I wanted to ask if somebody could put me at ease with using my macbook pro retina's SSD. If anyone has one, do you have songs, videos and pics on it? I am asking because I am debating if to just go ahead and fill up my SSD or use an external hard drive/flash drive for all my music, videos, etc. My concern is that I keep reading online that SSDs fill up quick and that they wear off pretty quickly. I am thinking about 15g-20gb  of music alone. I have 220gb left on my SSD. Again anyone with a Macbook Pro Retina with a SSD please post!
    Thank You!

I have my doubts but it never hurts to ask Apple.  If the answer is a negative you do have this option:
