Late 2013 15" Macbook Pro - iCloud Apps become non-functional

Hi Everyone,
My new top of the range Macbook Pro has some issues... Here's the specs:
2.6GHz Quad-core Intel Core i7
16GB 1600MHz DDR3L SDRAM
1TB Flash Storage
Arrived on Tuesday last week. Obviously very excited etc...
Noticed after 30 minutes that all my iCloud apps failing (under my account).
All the following apps fail to open with a beachball timeout
  iMessages
  FaceTime
  iCloud (via System Preferences)
  Maps
TextEdit (won't show any existing iCloud documents
  Airplay
However oddly enough Calendar works.
It's currently with Apple Engineering who are yet to reply.
Now the weird bit.... If a create a new login account under the macbook and utilise my wife's iCloud (apple id) everything works perfectly.....
Apple are now in the process of sending me out a new machine since they're considering this one Dead On Arrival..However I've now got a 3 to 4 week wait due to 16GB ram supply constraints.. :-(
I've reinstalled Mavericks 4 times now and the same issues come back within about 30 minutes.
Very frustrating to spend that much money and have a non-functional computer..
Anyone else experiencing these issues?
Cheers.
Benjamin.

I can happily report now that the issue has been resolved.
Via the logs sent to Apple engineering the issue was found to be a conflict between iCloud contacts and Google contacts.
For some reason (a bug in Mavericks) even though I didn't tick the box for google contacts to come across to the MacBook, it turned itself (in Internet Accounts via sys pref) on when activating my mail (gmail).
I'll say it again. It turned the tick on internet accounts / gmail / contacts without me asking it to!
Also of note. If I had iCloud contacts turned off. After the 30 minutes iCloud contacts were also turned on. Very very weird behaviour!
The above meant that the Mac's contacts were syncing with iCloud and google. :-(
Why this issue affected all the other iCloud apps I'm not sure why. However it definitely did something! :-(
Resolution Path:
Go to Sys pref/internet accounts, select gmail and click the minus button. It prompts you if you want to delete from ALL associated machines. Click YES!
Only after confirming I wanted to do a remote delete of my iCloud internet accounts across ALL machines did the issue resolve itself.
It appears that iCloud and google contacts can't live (stay sync'd) together. Which of course was never my intention. I only wanted to use iCloud.
Doesn't explain why it failed internally but a resolution path was found :-)
The inbound replacement laptop has been cancelled accordingly.
My new MacBook is now running perfectly !!!
I hope the resolution path here posted may help others in the future if you encounter this issue!
Take care,
Bennie.

  • Late 2013 13" Macbook Pro Hot even if turned off

Hi Guys, has anyone encountered this issue? My late 2013 13" Macbook Pro Retina 2.6 Ghz, 8Gb Ram, 512 SSD is Hot even if it's turned off. So when I power it up, it already drained some of it's charge, and when I check the Temperature using Temperature Guage, the CPU temperature is at 59 degrees Celcius, might I stress that this reading is from a newly turned on macbook pro with out any apps running( at idle stage). My friend who bought his late 2013 13" Macbook Pro Retina 2.4 Ghz, 8Gb Ram and 258 SSD also has this issues.
Is this normal with the Haswell Chip? Because my slightly older late 2012 13" Macbook Pro Retina 2.5ghz, 8gb Ram, 128 SSD never did manifest anything like that. And when I turn it on, the battery has the same charge as when I turned it off.
    Any insights on this?
    Thanks!

Open Activity monitor to ALL PROCESSES and set %CPU to display values from high to low.  Are there any CPU gluttons that can be identified?
If your MBP is still in the warranty period, consider an appointment at an Apple store genius bar.
    Ciao.

  • Late 2013 15" macbook pro, uploaded to yosemite, now crashes after sleep

    Hey All,
I've tried the PRAM and SMC resets. I've also run disk utility. It doesn't always happen right away...but sooner or later after waking from sleep I will get a beach ball, massive slow downs, and eventual lock up. This does not occur in safe mode.  This is driving me nuts. Please help

  • Late 2013 retina macbook pro drops thunderbolt ethernet cyclically

My new (late 2013) retina macbook pro drops the wired ethernet connection many times a day. Each time killing off all VPN and ssh sessions. This is using the apple thunderbolt to gigE adapter.
This is the second thunderbolt adapter I've received from Apple. Both do the same thing.
Here's my console log filtered on "Link". It's a continuous series of link up/link down messages.
Same problem on both thunderbolt ports too.

Oops, no idea where the mountainlion thing came from. cut&paste error I expect, but , yes, you are correct, mavericks 10.9.2
I'm about to that point, but it's going to be hard for them to diagnose because it's so random. I'll go in there, it'll work, then we'll stand around staring at eachother for a bit.
Then they'll say, you have to reload your OS from scratch and I'll say "but I just did that" and that will be it.
Maybe that's a bit overly cynical, but I'm not holding out a lot of hope for the 3 hours time suck that a trip to the mother ship.

  • HT201364 I am unable to redownload OS X Mavericks on a Late 2013 new Macbook Pro 13". I get a message saying "We could not complete your purchase" " OS X Mavericks can not be installed on this computer"

I am unable to redownload OS X Mavericks on a Late 2013 new Macbook Pro 13". I get a message saying "We could not complete your purchase" " OS X Mavericks can not be installed on this computer"
I nee an easy way to resolve this with Apple.

why is it this problematic to resolve?! obviously there's a valid installer image for our macs, why can we not have access to it to use on our laptops?
I do not understand, nor accept the explanation given before - about it being a newer model... it doesn't make sense... how does that translate to "no download available".
also, if it was a valid point - we would have had that download with the release of 10.9.1 - which we don't.

  • Late 2013 Retina MacBook Pro - ODD SEVERE POWER ISSUE?

My late 2013 retina macbook pro 13" was on safari (on battery, not plugged in) and then the screen went black. The screen went back on, then back to black, then back on, then the Macbook shut off completely.
Then, it tried rebooting twice, both failing to get past a gray screen and startup tone / chime before turning off for good. Now it won't turn on besides you seeing a gray screen and barely hearing the chime before it turning straight off again.
Any suggestions would be great! I have important files that are for a deadline within a couple days!

Try resetting the SMC. If that doesn't work, take it to the Genius Bar. You're under warranty.
You want the section "for a battery you should not remove yourself".

  • Cannot connect from Mac Pro late 2013 to Macbook Pro

Cannot connect from Mac Pro late 2013 to Macbook Pro . I have tried via ethernet and wifi. I can connect from the MBP to the Mac Pro but not vice versa. I have tried to connect to other MBP's on the same network with no luck. I try and connect as a registered user, as I usually do, with no luck. When I enter the Username and then Password the box vibrates as if the details are incorrect, they are not however.
    Thanks in advance
    Jeff

It is 'just not working' again.
To answer you question. Other sharing services work. I can connect as a guest. I can share screens. I cannot air drop.
I cannot connect either way now i.e. from Mac Pro to MBP and vice versa.
I cannot connect to my wife MBP either. My wife cannot connect to my Mac Pro.
It neither works with wifi or ethernet cable.
I can connect to my Time Capsule directly and Time Machine backups are working.
    The passwords are 100% correct.
The Mac Pro is a late 2013. Does anyone else have a similar problem? I have never suffered this one before. Seriously effecting my workflow
    Thanks

  • Late 2013 13" MacBook Pro Retina SSD Upgrade

So I just got a Late 2013 MacBook Pro Retina 128GB (MacBook 11,1) as a gift. After using the computer for a while, I realized that I need more space on my machine. So I called, chatted and went to the apple store (Walnutcreek, CA and Plano, TX) to see if they can guide me or help me on the upgrade of the drive. The representatives from all these locations said that unfortunately currently there is no upgrade options available for this machine. At one point, the rep. told me that I can ask a Apple authorized company to do the upgrade for me and my warranty will be voided but my apple care plan will still be valid and accept it for repair. They also provided me sites like: OWC, Transcend, Macsales, etc. to try and see if they have something that can help me on my issue.
But my main concern/question is that this is a "Late 2013" model and we are currently in year 2015, why hasn't apple or other companies come out with some solution to this issue?
Does anyone have other solutions that they can suggest to come around this issue?
Reminder - Late 2013 13" MacBook Pro 11,1 retina display mac
    Thank you

Yes, I actually tried all these sites and notice that they currently don't have anything for MacBook 11,1 (Late 2013 13" MacBook Pro Retina).
That's why I was asking for other solutions. But thank you for the suggestion.

  • Photoshop cc laggy in late 2013 retina Macbook Pro

    Hello Community
i bought late 2013 retina macbook pro,
    and installed photoshop cc,
    it is abnormally laggy.
by that i mean, even a small psd file, empty canvas, small brush, when i draw a line, it is laggy.
I suppose it is a driver problem
    anybody has same problem?
    and is there any solution?

    Hi guys,
Ive posted a fairly similar topic today. On my new Macbook pro retina 13" with 2.6Ghz, 8GB RAM and 256SSD CS6 was abnormally slow and laggy when editing files that my 8 year old laptop handled perfectly.
I noticed that when I removed my wacom tablet and edited with the trackpad or a mouse the lag went away! The mpb was snappy and responsive when editing the file. \
My guess is that the wacom drivers arent updated for retina macs and they cause some sort of malfunction with photoshop.
Ill keep you guys updated if i find something better.

  • Late 2013 13" Macbook Pro

Hi all new here and live in the UK. I've got a Late 2013 13" Macbook Pro (SSD) 256gb 8gb ram under 12 months old. I had OS X Mavericks when new and I've updated to OS X Yosemite. Now when I had Mavericks and using Blackmagic Disk Speed test I got around 680MB/s Write and 700+ on Read first screen shot. But now I'm only getting 350MB/s Write and 560MB/s on Read second screen shot (Media Name: APPLE SSD SD0256F) is this normal with updating to Yosemite????.
      Medium Type: SSD
      Protocol: PCI
    Thanks Michael.

    Hello Michael
I have a 2010 MacBook and you can imagine how slow my system would be with Yosemite. However, I just had a make a few tweaks here and there and I am now getting a comparatively a better result than before. Since you have a relatively newer Macbook, you can definitely make these tweaks and see if it works out for you.

  • Safe to plug my late-2013 15" MacBook Pro in Germany?

Is it safe to plug my late-2013 15" MacBook Pro into the outlet (with the appropriate adaptor) in Stuttgart, Germany?  Or will I have to use a transformer?
    Thank you.

You can get any sort of plug adapter kit - Apple even sells one (http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB974ZM/B/apple-world-travel-adapter-kit?fnode =3c).
I recall that they were once available in many electronics stores and even luggage stores. I've had the same kit from 1982 and never lost a plug!

  • Doubts about Late 2013 Haswell Macbook Pro with Retina

TL;DR: With its debut of so many new components (Haswell, ac wi-fi, and intel iris pro), is the late 2013 model a truly reliable laptop for 5+ years of use? Or should I buy the early 2013 which has a better history of fewer complaints because it has stuck to and fixed the problems of its predecessor's components.
I'm buying my first Mac Book Pro after in preparation for college (I will be a highschool senior this year):
My decision has come down to two refurbished products: An Early 2013 Retina Mac Book Pro and a Late 2013 Mac Book Pro
My cousin couldn't make up his mind so he accidentally ordered the mid 2012 model, then changed his mind and ordered the early 2013 model, then changed his mind again and decided on the late 2013 model after testing and comparing all 3 along with his 2011 model.
He decided on the late 2013 model http://store.apple.com/us/product/FE293LL/A/refurbished-154-inch-macbook-pro-20g hz-quad-core-intel-i7-with-retina-display
I personally was still torn between early and late 2013 because the late 2013 didnt have a dGPU.
NOW... I've been pretty convinced that the late 2013 is better in almost all aspects EXCEPT... that a quick search of its problems has brought up myriad problems...
Now you are all probably thinking (well of course u dumdum, nobody is going to complain about their mac book being fine); valid point, until my cousin's new late 2013 model started having almost ALL of the problems I researched including: wi-fi problems, constant crashing/screen freezing, rapid battery drain, random computer reboots..
I got a bit worried, so I also searched for early 2013 model problems, and almost nothing came up (in fact i just found late 2013 complaints). SO... I came to the conclusion that the late 2013 truly WAS a problem model given that the early 2013 had MUCH less complaints online, and that my cousin experienced the same problems described in the complaints for the late 2013 model.
NOW... My cousin has decided to replace what he got by returning it and getting another one... This is all nice and dandy except this time around all the problems were lucky to surface before the 14 day return. Most of the complaints described problems surfacing a few MONTHS after, which is wayyyy beyond the 14 day return policy. My cousin then tried to reassure me that no matter what, Apple was reliable and the 1 yr warranty would cover anything. This wasn't very convincing considering what had already occurred and what I had already seen from online complaints.
It wasn't very convincing BECAUSE this late 2013 model incorporated a WHOLE new bunch of new stuff... whereas the early 2013 model seemed to be pretty consistent with predecessors...
I hypothesize that all this NEW entry level stuff (ac wi-fi, intel iris pro, and haswell) is what is causing problems, and that because so many new additions are put together in concert, problems are bound to surface.
The early 2013 model has similar specs to previous models likely because it IMPROVED on the previous models mistakes. The late 2013 model debuted a lot of new things; there was not time to fix anything yet.
SOOOOOOOO... My final conclusion is uncertain... the late 2013 model is clearly designed to be better, but as an early model using so many new things, I can also see it failing a lot when I need it to last 5+ years for college.
NOW... having read my LONG post, please tell me: Early or late 2013?

I thought about doing what you said above, but unfortunately, I didn't have any spare blank DVD's. However, I was able to sucessfully install Windows & on my Mac. What I did was when I got to the error message, I would cancel the installation and that would return me back to the install now window. At that point, I would take out the flash drive and put it into another USB port. It took a few times, but eventually it recognized the drivers and allowed me to install the software. Remember, once you get past that point, the installation will ask you to choose a drive to install Windows on. Highlight the Boot Camp drive and chose "advanced", and then chose "format" after that. After all of this, it should be smooth sailing.

  • Late 2013 Retina Macbook Pro power brick extremely hot to the touch!  This affected my computer (It was hot as well) - I could smell something burning!  I am unsure the issue!

    Hello,
I purchase the latest 2013 Retina Macbook Pro, which I pluged in my charger and walked away from my computer!  When I arrived, my computer was in sleep mode and I noticed a faint burning smell and felt my computer and it was extremely HOT!  I then felt the power brick and it was even hotter!  10 minutes after I awoke the computer (ESTIMATED), the computer actually cooled down...  It's not hot to the touch but still warm!  On the other hand, the power brick is still extremely HOT!
Please help!  I started the charge at 3% and awoke it around 78% and now it's at 89%
Also, how long does it take to charge from 3% to 100%?  It's been about 2 hours to reach 89%
    Thanks,
    Anthony
NOTE:  Any support would be great!  I could use the advice as this is personally my first MAC!  I am thinking a software update to fix the computer from heating up when sleeping but I am unsure about the power brick!

I always thought that keeping it plugged in nearly 24/7 can damage the battery too?
No, not at all, the only damage from being plugged in all the time are IF:
A: its not turned off and in sleep mode ALL the time while plugged in
B: you dont unplug it ever couple weeks or so and drain the battery down to about 30 to 40%
*Also, if youre going to store your macbook away for a few weeks or more,... make sure it has at least a 50% or so charge.
*Cycle count / use/ lifespan is one thing that cant be countered.
Proper treatment is another thing. Just because LiPo batteries dont need conditioning in general,.. does NOT mean they dont have an ideal use / recharge environment. Anything can be abused even if it doesnt need conditioning.
Just use and enjoy your new macbook,
    From Apple on batteries:

    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1446
but really all you would keep in mind is --"consider 15-20% is the same as 0% and recharge it"
Important useful info on your Lithium cells as compiled from battery experts:
Heat increases battery performance but shortens life by a factor of two for every 10°C increase above 25–30°C (18°F above 77–86°F). This is yet another important reason for the cooling of any notebook, not just keeping the processor and GPU cool. Mavericks lower power tasking (app nap) and combined with the cool running Haswell processor both greatly protect battery life on your Macbook now more than ever before.
Good news: *Mavericks not only increases a single charge cycle for longer battery use off a full charge,… but also prolongs the overall long term life of the LiPo battery in a Macbook by reducing the load conditions the battery experiences from heavy peak-use.
Counting cycles is not conclusive because a discharge may vary in depth and there are no clearly defined standards of what constitutes a charge cycle on a Lithium Ion battery empirically. Similar to a mechanical device that wears out faster with heavy use, so also does the depth of discharge (DoD) determine the cycle count.
The shorter the discharge (low DoD), the longer the battery will last. If at all possible, avoid full discharges and charge the battery more often between uses. Partial discharge on Li-ion is fine.
Frequent HIGH depth of discharge rates (draining the battery very low) on a Lithium battery will hasten the lowering of maximum battery capacity.
Although better performing when warm, lithium polymer batteries live longer when kept cool.
Lithium cells prefer draining conditions at a steady pace rather than fast pulsed or quick discharges, …this fact is idealized now with the Haswell and Mavericks app-nap low power tasking for battery use.

  • How can I do a clean installation of Mavericks 10.9.1 on Late 2013 Retina Macbook Pro

Hi I need some help -
I bought a late 2013 15' Retina Macbook Pro and it was shipped with 10.9.0 build number 13A3017.
Now 10.9.1 is out, and I wanted to download the full installation image and burn it to thumb drive and do a full clean re-installation.
But I just found Mac App Store doesn't allow me to download the full 5.29GB installation image from https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/os-x...ks/id675248567, and my current 10.9.0 can only be _upgraded_ to 10.9.1 with the 395MB incremental update package from http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1712, this upgrade package is described as "It includes all updates from OS X Mavericks 10.9.1 plus system specific enhancements to improve the stability and compatibility of your Mac."
So maybe the full 5.29GB 10.9.1 which is available on Mac App Store is not compatible with the 2013 15' Late Retina Macbook Pro?
I just downloaded the upgrade package from Mac App Store and now I'm running 10.9.1 build number 13B3116 fine.
So my questions here: I really would like to do a clean full re-installation of 10.9.1. Where can I get the full installation image which is compatible with 2013 15' Late Retina Macbook Pro?

There is a way to get yourself a fully functional install file for a Late 2013 model.
    1. Format a USB stick
    2. Reboot the Mac, and hold down CMD-R to get into recovery mode
    3. Start a new installation and choose the USB stick as a target. You should be able to choose your normal hard drive as a target, too, because as long as the installer package is downloaded, no data should be erased, but when you decide to use a USB stick, you're on the safe side.
    4. The Mac will be downloading the install package. This takes a while, the time remaining shown is not correct. If you need to have an idea how long it will take you, choose the log from the help menu during download, it will show you how many chunks are already downloaded (it was 504 chunks total for me).
    5. When the download is ready, the Mac reboots automatically, pull the USB stick when it does. If you're not before your computer when this happens, don't worry, when you come back, you will be in the setup program. Just switch your machine off by pressing the power switch for more than 10 seconds, and then pull the stick.
    6. On the stick you will find the "OS X Install ESD.dmg". Copy that file to your Mac (it's the only file you'll need from the stick. After that, you can reformat the stick and use it for the next step).
    7. You can use this file to finally create a bootable USB stick if you follow the instructions that you can find anywhere on the net or in this forum.

  • Installing Windows 7 Ultimate Edition on a Late 2013 15" MacBook Pro with Retina Display. (Top Spec)

    All,
I am trying to install Windows 7 Ultimate Edition on my Late 2013 MacBook Pro with Retina Display. I am using the .iso file/USB stick method of installation because I don't have access to my original Windows 7 DVD. I have the top specification model with all of the max upgrades. The problem I am having is when I get to actual installation of the Windows 7 software, it can't find the drivers I need to complete the installation. Any tips or suggestions?

I thought about doing what you said above, but unfortunately, I didn't have any spare blank DVD's. However, I was able to sucessfully install Windows & on my Mac. What I did was when I got to the error message, I would cancel the installation and that would return me back to the install now window.
