Late 2013 MacBook Pro Casing Replacement

I've a late 2013 MacBook Pro with Retina. I damaged the top casing and the display housing (chips). Where can I get them replaced?

Sorry to hear that. Apple can do it but it is going to be expensive (estimated to be around $300-$400). Another way, though not recommended, is to buy the part off eBay and have someone install it. The latter option is risky so I wouldn't do it but it is an option.
FYI, I really like their cases. Think about getting one of these once you replace the part.

  • Downgrade late 2013 Macbook Pro to Mountain Lion

    Hello,
I've seen a few threads on this and the consensus seems to be that it can't/shouldn't be done. Some of us are in situations in corporate environments where we can't upgrade so please don't post here to tell me I can't/shouldn't downgrade. I started this thread in the hopes that with enough people working on it we can figure out a way to make it work.
I can get my 10.8.5 image to boot my late 2013 Macbook Pro by replacing /System/Library/CoreServices/PlatformSupport.plist with a PlatformSupport.plist from the original 10.9 install. It seems stable however I don't get any sound. No input or output devices show up in System Information --> Audio --> devices. I've tried replacing AudioAUUC.kext and AppleHDA.kext with ones from a 10.9 machine but that doesn't help.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to get the sound working?

    Hello tor.support
Did you ever get a solutin for this?
I just spent £1700 on a new MBP to find my audio soundscard does not support Mavericks - normally not such a big deal as I work with computers and thought it would be a simple downgrade to Lion.
Really dont want to take the machine back to apple, but I cant wait for Zoom (audio manufacturer) to get their software updated. It's been 8 months. I need a system that works.
Any help would be much appreciated.
    Thank you

  • Late 2013 Macbook Pro Retina 15" screen brightness is dull?

I winder if someone can help me with a issue regarding my machine.
I have recently had my early 2013 Macbook Pro retina replaced with the late 2013 model and found that the screen brightness  at maximum is (or appears) to be somewhat less?
    Can any anyone help?

    The low-end 15” rMBP with a 8 GB or RAM and a 256 GB SSD costs $2,000.
    The low-end 15” rMBP with a 8 GB or RAM and a 512 GB SSD costs $2,300.
With 16 GB of RAM and a 512 GB SSD it costs $2,500.
    The high-end 15” rMBP with a 16 GB of RAM and a 512 GB SSD costs $2,600.
All cost $500 dollars more with a 1 TB SSD.
So the SSD size is not a differentiating factor unless you prefer 256 GB.
If you think you need 16 GB of RAM and a 512 GB SSD then you might as well spend the extra $100 for the high-end model.
The high-end model will make a difference on gaming and graphics-oriented applications.
They tend to run other applications at about the same speed.
Both models are rated with 8 hours of battery life.

The speed was about 10% different between 8 GB and 16 GB models.
On other applications your mileage may vary.

The low-end and high-end performed the about the same on non-graphics oriented applications.
    Graphics oriented benchmarks:
On the Cinebench OpenGL benchmark the high-end was about twice as fast.
On the Unigine Heaven Benchmark benchmark they ran at about the same speed.
On the Unigine Valley Benchmark benchmark the high-end was about 1.5x as fast.

  • Is there a way to digitize audio using the headphone input on the 15-inch (late 2013) Macbook Pro with Retina display?

I'd like to digitize audio from a minidisc player into my 15-inch (late 2013) Macbook Pro with retina display, but can't see a way to change the internal mic input.  I understand that previous MacBooks allowed the headphone jack to double as a mic input, but mine doesn't seem capable of switching.  I've tried using a mini to mini cable, with no luck, and also tried using a headset splitter adapter (3.5 mm 4-pin to 2x3-pin 3.5 mm headset splitter adapter from Amazon) because I read that that would allow me to plug in headphones and input audio.  But in both cases, the only "input" available in my sound preferences is the built-in internal microphone.  Am I missing something?  Is there a way to digitize audio through the headphone jack?

Not likely. headphone jacks are usually output only devices unless specifically stated to support input, and even then, it may not be audio input that they support, but merely control input for volume and such.
You can get a USB audio input instead. i.e:

  • How to install system on late 2013 macbook pro retina ?

    Hmmm .... I need help.
I deployed a 10.9.1 from a new MBA image to the new 15" MBPr .... not a good idea. It won't boot because of the special build that the late 2013 requires.
So the original recovery HD is gone, so can't go that route. Now I need help badly. How to get the darn thing to bootup .... or how to start over ?
    BR Martin

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Your Late 2013 MacBook Pro comes with Internet Recovery, which can be used without needing a Recovery partition. To start up in Internet Recovery, hold Command, Option (Alt) and R keys while your Mac is starting, and reinstall OS X. You will get OS X 10.9.1, and the Mavericks installer will create the OS X Recovery partition.
Your MacBook Pro requires a special OS X 10.9.1 build that is not available for any other Mac, and you cannot install the "normal" OS X 10.9.1 version on your MacBook Pro. Apple will fix this in a future update, when your MacBook Pro and all other Macs use the same OS X build.

  • Late 2013 Macbook Pro Retina 15' will not boot an external disk from a Mid-2012 MAcbook Pro. What should I do?

In order to simplify moving all my files from the previous mid-2012 macbook pro 15' when moving to my new late-2013 macbook pro, i superdup-ed the full hard-disk to an external ssd. Unfortunatelly the new mac resuses to boot from this external disk (i get the grey disk with a line over it). The external disk works just fine so if I boot the new mac from its internal SSD I can read/write the external disk without problems.
Old OS X is 10.9 as is the OS on the new mac.
What I need to do is to boot the new mac from the external ssd, use the same superduper to copy the external content onto the internal ssd.
How can I solve this issue?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
If you made a backup of your files with SuperDuper, use Migration Assistant (in /Applications/Utilities) to transfer your files from the external drive > http://pondini.org/OSX/MigrateLion.html It will create a new user account with the transferred files, so you may want to merge both user accounts > https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-5472
The Late 2013 MacBook Pro uses a special OS X Mavericks version which makes OS X compatible with it, and older OS X versions do not work with it. That's the reason why you cannot start up from the external drive created from the Mid 2012 MacBook Pro

A 2008 Mac won't have originally shipped with Lion. You need to install 10.6.8 on the computer, log into the Mac App Store with the Apple ID you used to purchase Mountain Lion, click on the Purchases tab, and download it.

  • Help! My Canon MG5520 printer is apparently not connected to my late 2013 MacBook Pro!

Help! My Canon MG5520 printer is apparently not connected to my late 2013 MacBook Pro! I have had this printer a few months and everything has been working fine until today. I did I have to turn my wifi router on and off this morning, so I think that might be it. I'm not extremely tech savy, so if anyone could lend a hand, I would appreciate it!! I've tried unplugging it, turning it on and off again, quitting it my from laptop, nothing works. Do I need to reconnect it to the wifi? How do I do this? I turns on fine and doesn't give my any error messages, it'st just my laptop that says it isn't connected. Sorry if this is a stupid question.

Thanks for providing complete information.  It seems like you've ruled out faulty docking cable, bad USB port, and software issue on the new Mac.  And since the shuffle still works fine on the older Mac, it's not a problem on the shuffle.
    Some things to try...
Connect the MacBook to its power adapter, so that it's not running the battery power.  If any other USB devices are connected, try connecting the shuffle as the only device, to a direct USB port on the MacBook.
If you can keep it connected for long enough, go to the shuffle's Settings screen in iTunes and set it to Enable disk use (and Apply).  This will keep the shuffle's disk mounted continuously, instead of iTunes unmounting the shuffle's disk when not syncing.
If you happen to have an old USB 2.0 hub that has its own power supply, connect the shuffle through the hub to see if that make any difference.  The new Macs have USB 3.0, so if that's the cause, maybe a USB 2.0 hub in between can act as a "buffer" and make it work.

  • Duel microphone holes on the late 2013 MacBook Pro 15"

Are you meant to be able to see the duel microphone holes on the late 2013 MacBook Pro 15"
It shows them on the tech specs on the apple site and most other places I've seen, but mine doesn't have the holes.
Is it also common that pages, numbers and keynote were not automatically installed when I bought it new?
    When setting up the new macbook I got an email saying;
Your Apple ID was used to sign in to iCloud on a MacBook Pro 13"
However it is a 15"... Should I be worried? I bought this off the online store.

If you do what I said - "Go to the bottom of the page and click on the Mics button." you will see the description - "under the speaker grille"

  • Just got a new "late 2013" Macbook Pro Retina, want to install Windows! (Newbie!)

    Hello everyone!
I am brand new to the Apple Community and would like to pick at some brains here!
I just recently bought a new "late 2013" Macbook Pro here and would like to run Microsoft OneNote on my macbook. I have 2 predictaments though!
    1. Which Windows OS is recommended? I searched around and seem to have found that alot of people are having issues with the Windows 8.1 version. Should I just stick to Windows 7?
    2. Also, I know that the Macbook Pro does not have an optical drive; what is the best way to go on about getting the Windows 7 ISO onto a thumbdrive? Would I have to do it through another computer and burn the ISO on the thumbdrive there? Or is there a way to purchase Windows from my Macbook and download from the sellers website and just run Bootcamp to burn the image onto there?
Thank you and I look forward to joining this community!
    Don

I am new to the community as well but have been an apple genuis for a while.  The way I put windows on my mac (late 2012 pro) last year was I bought windows 7, and used bootcamp to install it.  I would have someone at best buy or a tech store do it for you though. If you dont want to pay $200 for windows 7, you can just buy an app called parallels (also at like a best buy) and use that.  I believe it is around $75 but not sure.  Hope this helps

  • Why my safari browser is not opening pdf files?I'm currently using the lat 2013 macbook pro with os mavericks and all my software is uptodate?

Why my safari browser is not opening pdf files?I'm currently using the lat 2013 macbook pro with os mavericks and all my software is uptodate?

    Back up all data.
If Adobe Reader or Acrobat is installed, there should be a setting in its preferences such as Display PDF in Browser. I don't use those applications myself, so I can't be more precise. Deselect that setting, if it's selected. Otherwise do as follows.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
    In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens (command-V), then press return.
From the folder that opens, move to the Trash any items that have "Adobe" or “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari, and test.
The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can also interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it as well, if it's present. The same goes for a plugin called "iGetter," and perhaps others — I don't have a complete list.
If you still have the issue, repeat with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari again.

  • I have a late 2013 MacBook Pro without retina, should i upgrade to Mavericks? Or will it run slower?

Hi, I bought a late 2013 MacBook Pro without retina  display and I want to know if I should upgrade to mavericks since I don't want to make it slower, is it worth it?

    angie.ob,
if your MacBook Pro is non-Retina, then the newest model that it could be is a Mid 2012.
The worth of upgrading to Mavericks depends entirely upon your priorities. What is it about having Mavericks on your MacBook Pro that appeals to you? If Mavericks in its current incarnation makes your MacBook Pro run more slowly, do you have a plan by which you can easily go back to Mountain Lion?
