Late-2013 MBPr keyboard layouts in UAE

I am looking to order a late-2013 MBPr from the UAE Apple website. I want a laptop with a US style keyboard (the horizontal return key etc). There is an option named "Backlit Keyboard (US) & User’s Guide (English)".
Is this the US styled keyboard? (seen here http://www.acompatible.com/1958-6952-thickbox/apple-macbook-pro-17-inch-transluc ent-keyboard-protector-skin-cover-us-layout.jpg)
Or is it the other style english keyboard? (seen here http://realitypod.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/07/English-International-Keyboard. jpeg)
Thanks for your help.

  • Retina Late 2013 13' Keyboard Backlight Issue

Since I got the computer, many times the keyboard backlight won't work in every keys. Some keys have the lights on, another dont. The first and the second row of the keys have that issue... Sometimes I reset SMC and they start to work, sometimes dont. It is constantly happening. What could it be?
    Thanks

I have the same problem with my late 2013 MacBook Pro 13"; it only occurs when the backlight is set on one of the lower setting. While it's not that big of a deal it's still somewhat annoying. It is very noticeable if you're looking directly at the keyboard.

  • Airport time capsule 2TB not emitting 802.11ac to my Late 2013 MBPr

    PHY Mode: 802.11n
this is displayed when I'm connected to the Airport Time Capsule from my late 2013 MacBrook Pro Retina 15"
My laptop is 802.11ac compatible however the connection to the airport seems to only connect in 802.11n
I've connected Airport to my Verizon Actiontec Mi424WR and have disabled wifi on the actiontec.
Any way I can modify the connection to connect at 802.11ac???

Please don't post in both areas.. we see posts in both..

  • Docking solutions for Late 2013 MBPr

I recently started a new job and I was issued the latest version of the 13" MacBook Pro as my work machine. My setup currently consists of two 22" Dell monitors, which take up the majority of my desk space. For the first few days, I tried to use the two monitors as well as the laptop display as a third, however I wasn't satisfied with the legibility of the retina display (specifically when working in Windows) while at my desk. It seems as though it would be fine if the laptop was directly in front of me (in other words, if I were using as a laptop), but for the majority of the time, I'll be at my desk in front of the two Dell monitors.
Space is also a concern; for my desk phone to be comfortably within reach, it resides to the right of the second Dell monitor. In my current setup, the laptop is directly in front of it, so again, using that display doesn't really work in my favor (unless I want to close it every time I pick up the phone.
Finally, the mess of cords I have to disconnect from the MacBook each time I pick it up is not especially attractive or functional.
So, I'm wondering if there's a vertical docking solution (specifcially for the latest MacBook Pro) that might save some space on my desk as well as make the transition from desk work to field work a little more seamless. I've looked around a bit and found a few solutions for older MacBook Pros (like the Henge Docks), but these all seem to have too many connections for the new model.
Being able to place the closed laptop in a vertical stand that has plugs for all my devices at the bottom would be idea. In a perfect world, my dock would look something like these: http://hengedocks.com/images/m_HD01VA13MB.jpg
However, I've heard poor reviews about the Henge Docks (and again, they don't make one for the model I have) and everything else I've seen seems to be more or less a hub for cables with no dock compenent (which doesn't resolve my space issue).
So, my question is: Does the perfect dock exist? And if it doesn't, what are the alternatives? I bought a BookArc for my MacBook Air which gets the job done as far as not taking up too much space is concerned, but never looked into a solution for cable management. I don't think I'd be entirely opposed to getting two components for my work machine (say, a BookArc-like dock and a separate hub that combines all my cables into one connector). If I go that route, do I have any better options?

  • Where to purchase and what version of Windows 8.1 for late 2013 MBPr 13'?

    Hello all,
Im new to this place and am new to Bootcamp. I want to run Windows via my MBPr but there is no optical drive. Where can I purchase / what version of the Windows 8.1 do I purchase if I am doing a fresh install (i do not have any previous Windows OS and am confused as to which Windows 8.1 to buy)
    Would this work?
    http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msusa/en_US/pdp/Windows-8.1-Pro-for-Students /productID.288769600
I am a little concerned because it says: "Important: Windows 8.1 Pro full version is for Windows 7 users only."

    Hi ctwitchell,
This forum is discussing about Windows Forms developing like Form design and Form control, your issue is more related with installing Windows 8.1. I will recommend you post your issue in the link below:

  • Which one should I buy, early or late 2013 15" mbpr refurbs?

Hi, I was looking to get a refurbished 15" mbpr and save some money.  I notice on Apple's refurb website there is a early 2013 mbpr with a faster processor (2.4GHZ i7) and NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M with 1GB of GDDR5 memory for 40 dollars less than the late 2013 mbpr that has a slower processor (2.0GHZ i7) and Intel Iris Pro Grahpics.  I'm looking to do mostly photo shop and was wondering what's the difference between the Nvidia and Intel Iris Pro Graphics.  Also is 0.4GHZ speed going to make much of a difference beside battery life? Thank you for your input.

I'd strongly recommend going with the refurb model. You're getting a dedicated graphics card, and a 0.4 ghz boost. Now the 0.4 ghz isn't necessarily the reason to go with it, but the GT 650m sure is.

  • How to fix MBPr (late 2013) slowdown due to defective battery w/o replacing it?

    Hi,
I have this late 2013, MBP retina 13" running OS X 10.10.2 which has a defective battery (with 'replace now' warning).
The computer is always connected to the charger (since the battery doesn't hold the charge) and I have started to notice extreme lags while doing day to day stuffs (like web surfing, word processing).
I understand its solely due to the battery issue and some have successfully fixed it with several ways
    1. Go to About this mac under the apple in the upper left and click on More info
    2. Click on system report
    3. make a note of what it says after Model Identifier
    4. go to your master drive – System -Library – Extensions – IOPlatformPluginFamily.kext -Contents – Plugins – ACPI_SMC_PlatformPlugin.kext – Contents – Resources – find the name from step 3 and move it to a folder that you can find again if needed.
    3. Restart and you’re done
However the above method doesn't seem to work since I can't find relevant file for late 2013 MBPr.
Would be grateful if someone can offer me a fix until I get my battery replaced.
    Thanks

The problem you face is that a failed battery can expand and DAMAGE the MBP.  At the very least you should take the battery out of the MBP (which will require Pentalobe and Triwing drivers) or better yet, have it replaced.  Trying to disable it internally does not solve your problem.
    Ciao.

  • Late 2013 Keyboard / Trackpad still unresponsive AFTER EFI 1.3 update

I thought I would start a new thread / discussion since the previous thread here seems to be riddled with "install the update" suggestions and off topic assistance such as battery life questions. I have also logged detailed information regarding this issue on my professional blog here.
Anyway, here is a short, condensed version of my story. I have had two brand new late 2013 Retina MacBook Pro's with the 2.4/16GB/256 configuration. Since the config I chose is a CTO, this problem has been going on since the day the first model arrived (December 10th, 2013). The EFI update was preinstalled on both systems and I can verify that because the boot ROM version is MBP111.0138.B03 (the boot rom prior to the update ended in B00 or B01). I am also an AASP and an ACMT meaning that I am certified and employed with a company that allows me to fix all Apple hardware under warranty. I am well-versed in technology and Apple hardware and I have never seen anything quite like this.
Here is the quick summary of things I have attempted and I have been able to re-recreate the issue:
The system will not mount the root device when I boot via a known good external hard drive running 10.9.1. Verbose mode and Single user mode reports a still waiting for root device error.
The system (rMBP) will not boot from another system (late 2011 MacBook Pro 13") when said system (late 2011 MacBook Pro) pushed into target disk mode via thunderbolt.
My system, rMBP, will boot up with the internal SSD but will not allow the keyboard and track pad to function. The caps lock key will not illuminate. The keyboard and track pad will work OUTSIDE of 10.9.1, however. I have installed a clean internet recovery version of Mavericks over 4 times.
If I put my system, rMBP, into target disk mode and connect to any other computer via thunderbolt and boot it on the other Apple systems, the operating system running on the internal SSD of the rMBP will work just fine -- keyboard and mouse included (again, as a target disk mode thunderbolt connection to another host).
If I use a remote agent to connect to my rMBP such as LogMeIn or vnc, the keyboard and mouse will work just fine from the remote system which leaves me to beleive that this is not a software issue nor is it fully a hardware issue since the keyboard and mouse work outside of mavericks.
I believe we are still dealing with a firmware issue here. It took several tries to create a bootable device for the late 2013 rMBP since NONE of my other up-to-date and verified working external drives will boot but I finally created a bootable USB stick. When I run the system from the USB stick, the keyboard and trackpad will work but if I touch the keyboard and / or trackpad in 5 second intervals, I will receive the following error:

I had actually created a system log query to search for the above. The search string includes "the USB " and any entry after 1/1/2014. The above error should only present itself when waking an Apple system from sleep and instead it happens on every touch after, at least, a 5 second period of non-use.
When I remote into the system using LogMeIn, VNC or even use an application called ShareMouse which shares the keyboard and mouse of my Windows system with any other computer on the network presuming they have ShareMouse also installed, I can use the system as I would expect, without continuous error in the console log. When I check the system information, Bluetooth is completely disabled and the USB hub does not report address information. Since the keyboard, track pad, Bluetooth peripheral and USB ports all sit on the same USB stack / hub this leads me to think there is a firmware / driver failure occurring after Mavericks loads. The only two errors I see when I am using a remote keyboard and mouse via a remote service is as follows:
1/5/14 6:58:16.000 PM kernel[0]: The USB device HubDevice (Port 1 of Hub at 0xfa000000) may have caused a wake by issuing a remote wakeup (2)
1/5/14 6:58:16.000 PM kernel[0]: The USB device Apple Internal Keyboard / Track pad (Port 2 of Hub at 0xfa100000) may have caused a wake by issuing a remote wakeup (3)
Bottom line: Even for those of you who have installed the EFI 1.3 update and have verified that your freezing issues have ceased, for the most part, could you check your console log for the above error. My guess is, you will still see the error repeated there in 5 second intervals if you touch the keyboard, put your hands up for 5 seconds, touch the keyboard and / or track pad again. My concerns is that this is a product line issue since it has occurred on two brand new systems and the log errors appeared on another model on display in an Apple store. (The display model was logged into an Admin account so I took the liberty of checking the console log.)

I'm tired of this message. Bought a Mac 13" retina from bestbuy that was shipped to me on December 24th. The finder took a long time to load 'All My Files' with three to five second delay. My older macbook unibody (late 2009)was instantaneous. My wife's macbook aluminum (2011) also loaded the files instantaneously. Sorry I digressed but while I was trying to research that issue, I was caught up in the console and multiple of these,'The USB device Apple Internal Keyboard / Trackpad (Port 5 of Hub at 0x14000000) may have caused a wake by issuing a remote wakeup (2)' kept showing up whenever I touched the trackpad in intervals of 6-7 seconds.
Called up apple, used screen sharing and after spending an hour was transferred to the second tier tech. The second tier rep troubleshooted and told me it WAS an issue and asked me to go to apple store to run diagnostics and that most likely I'll receive another notebook in exchange since it fell within 14 day period. I told him the internet was filled with this discussion and asked if it was prevalent. He said it was the first time he has come across this issue and most forums on the internet may not be addressing my specific issue. I wasn't convinced and simply returned it at best buy.
The unfortunate thing is I sold my macbook unibody and having owned 2 macbooks for last eight years I caved and ordered another 13". After a week and a half I received it today and guess what, I see the same message filling up my console.
    I noted the following,
    * Use guest account and you'll never see the message,'The USB device Apple Internal Keyboard / Trackpad (Port 5 of Hub at 0x14000000) may have caused a wake by issuing a remote wakeup (2)'. All admin accounts created will throw that error.
Though off topic I'd like to state what happened with the Finder's 'All my files' issue:
    1. Once I upgraded my older macbook unibody to mavericks, the 'All my files' took longer to load as the new macbook pro.
    2. I was able to replicate the same slow load times with macbook aluminium(2011) when I upgraded it to mavericks.
Oh, I also showed the slowness to the representatives and all they tried doing was reindex spotlight which did no good.
So much for 1799$ notebook and the "free" OS. Very disappointed.

  • No mouse or keyboard when  booting Windows on late-2013 15" MBP (with 750m)

I generalized my Win7 x64 image from previous laptop (late-2008 MBP) using sysprep, and imaged it into a bootcamp partition using Winclone (on the new machine) + Target Disk Mode (on the old machine, over thunderbolt/firewire). Booting it asked me to run through the first use wizard, as expected after generalization, but the cursor and keyboard were both unresponsive. As with all future attempts, I tried with both the builtin trackpad and keyboard, and an external USB mouse + keyboard (via a USB hub). I am able to boot this installation from Parallels, and it works fine, but I can't install the Bootcamp drivers, since it doesn't think the VM needs them. After running the first-use wizard in Parallels, I can now boot to login screen natively, but mouse and keyboard are still unresponsive.
I also tried booting from two different Windows 7 x64 installation USB drives (one 8GB with the new Bootcamp drivers copied on and prepared by the Bootcamp Assistant, and one 4GB with the Bootcamp drivers copied onto a separate 4GB drive which was also plugged in at boot time).
I've also tried booting into Windows system recovery mode AND safe mode.
    My GPT partition table is:
    1 40 409639 EFI System (FAT)
    2 409640 1562909639 Mac OS X HFS+
3 1562909640 1564179175 Mac OS X Boot (I assume this is the recovery partition??)
    4 1564180480 1857560575 Basic Data (This is NTFS - for Windows 7)
5 1857562624 1954209791 Basic Data (This is FAT)
    My MBR table is:
    1   40 409639 EE EFI Protective
    2   409640 1562909639 AF Mac OS X HFS+
    3   1562909640 1564179175 AF Mac OS X Boot
    4 * 1564180480 1857560575 07 NTFS/HPFS
    Bootcamp version is 5.1.1 (479)

just in case anyone else runs into another related issue:   http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929828
sysprep can not be used more than three times over the entire lifetime of a windows image.
I have been able to consistently install a new windows image on the late-2013 MBP using the bootcamp assistant, but only when I allow the bootcamp assitant to run the entire install process from USB stick, including an auto-restart from MacOS to the USB start partition.
The install on the late 2013 MBP does NOT work for me if I boot MacOS [using "OPT"-key boot selection] before I allow the USB image to run to completiotn of a full windows install.

  • TS5296 MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Late 2013): Keyboard and Multi-Touch trackpad unresponsive

Brand new Macbook PRO Retina 15inch. (1 day old) Running 10.9
    EFI 1.2 installed.
Keyboard/trackpad hangs when using the left USB.
The EFI update 1.3 apparently fixes this issue for the 13inch macbook pro.
I have a 15inch macbook pro. The EFI update 1.2 does not resolve this issue for me.
Whenever I plug something into the left USB, after the 2nd or 3rd time, the keyboard and trackpad become unresponsive. To get the keyboard/trackpad back again, I must restart the machine.
This is what the consol says:
    Nov 12 11:29:56 leaf kernel[0]: AppleUSBMultitouchDriver::_deviceSetReport - DeviceRequest returned error 0xe000404f (interface 1, reportID 0xac, payload 2
Nov 12 11:29:56 leaf kernel[0]: AppleUSBMultitouchDebug: _deviceSetReport returned an error in configureDataMode
    Nov 12 11:29:56 leaf kernel[0]: AppleUSBMultitouchDriver::_deviceSetReport - DeviceRequest for reportID 0xac returned with result 0xe000404f - retrying
I cannot install the EFI update 1.3 as I get an alert "This software is not supported on your system." I assume because it was made only for the 13inch.
Is this a hardware or firmware issue? If it's only firmware, why does this issue only affect some users? If it's hardware, should I just return this macbook?

I can reproduce the behavior at will. I just have to plug in the tablet on the left USB board, reboot the tablet, disconnect the cable and reconnect. At that moment the trackpad and keyboard will both freeze.
This is the complete sequence of console logs I have

Disconnecting the tablet doesn't resolve the issue. A reboot does. I still have to try if the workaround posted by Apple for the MBP-13 Late 2013 (close the lid and reopen after a few minutes) would work here too.

  • Keyboard and Multi-Touch trackpad may become unresponsive on MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Late 2013)

    Folks,
I have exacly same sympton described here on my 5 day old 15 inc macbook pro.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS5296
MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Late 2013): Keyboard and Multi-Touch trackpad may become unresponsive
Has anone tried to apply this patch on 15 inc ?
    Kind Regards,
    Neroshige

The patch is only for MBP late 2013 13 inch. 15 inch is not able to install this patch
    I'm facing this problem intermittently.
When my keyboard & trackpad went unresponsive, I plug in my USB keyboard and the keyboard & trackpad went back normal.
I search the web and somebody highlight it may due to connector to keyboard/trackpad appear to be curled.
Not sure is hardware problem or software bug...

  • Keyboard and trackpad unresponsive on newest MBP retina (late 2013)

So I literally ordered the late 2013 model the day it was released (October 23nd) because I had been waiting for it forever.  I got it October 25th.  That SAME DAY I used it, it started having problems.  While I could be scrolling on tumblr or Facebook, the keyboard and trackpad would randomly just stop responding.  It wouldn't move at ALL but the computer still works fine.  One time I was watching Pirates of the Caribbean and the keyboard and trackpad froze just the same without me touching anything.  I had to hold the power button down for 10 secs (the only button that worked) to shut off the computer which also LOST everything I had open.  This has been happening EVERY SINGLE DAY since I used it except one.  I called apple support and they couldn't figure out what's wrong either because it can't be anything I installed since I've only had it for a day when it first happened and all I had was google chrome installed.
The tech guy from Apple support told me to do the force quit shortcut on the keyboard if it happened again (which it did, as always) and it obviously didn't work because the keyboard was just not responding to begin with.
This kind of stuff started happening the FIRST day I got my computer four days ago, and it's been happening almost every single day; I don't think the problem is any programs I installed.  I'm thinking I got a faulty computer, which would be very unfortunate because final exams are coming up and it would be very inconvenient for me to send it back and wait for another one.  I also just put decals on it and that would go to waste as well.....
I waitressed every single night of the week for a month (and counting) in order to buy this for school and I was quite excited to have gotten it...but already problems are coming up with the computer that I spent so much money on.....this is really disappointing.  What should I do? The apple support people aren't fixing the problem and there's no apple store near me and it would suck to have to send it back to wait for another because I have exams right now....and also the money I spent on the decal.

  • How to fix the mouse and keyboard freezing when installing Windows 7 on 27' iMac late 2013?

Hi, I have a question for u guys who can solve this.
I recently bought the new 27' iMac late 2013, and I installed some softwares and used it for few days.
Before I bought this I used the 15' Macbook Pro Retina, I installed Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit, and I used the Windows for gaming.
    So back to my question.
So I bought the new iMac and I was tying to install Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit (with the same CD).
After dividing the partition, and other stuff, the iMac rebooted and I hold down the option (alt) key. I choose the Windows CD, and it said it is "getting ready to install Windows". I let it load, and the blue screen where you choose the language, time/location and keyboard input popped up. At the bottom right corner (at the same page), there is a button that said "Next (N)" which u need to click it to go to the next step. I was moving my mouse to click the button, but I realized that my mouse and keyboard was frozen. I tried both wireless and wired mouse and keyboard but they didn't work. There was nothing I could do. I hold the power button, (that was the only option) and tried my mouse and keyboard on Mac OS and it worked fine.
I thought something went wrong in the CD so I bought the Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit. The result was same. It frizzed again. (I just wast few hundred $)
Latter my friend lend me his Windows 8.1 Pro 64 bit. I tried it, and it worked, it didn't freezed on Windows 8.
The problem is I played Battlefield 4, Titan fall, and Watch Dogs, and Battlefield 4 multiplayer doesn't work on Windows 8.1. Even though when it works on Windows 8, I prefer using Windows 7.
Dose anyone knows how to fix this freezing thing?
    My computer is:
27' iMac late 2013 (bought it just few days ago)
I did no upgrades when I bought it, except the graphic card.
I bought the iMac in Korean Apple Store, and my Windows CD is in Korean, can that be a problem?
Please leave a comment when u think u can solve my problem.

    See -> http://manuals.info.apple.com/MANUALS/1000/MA1636/en_US/boot_camp_install-setup_ 10.8.pdf.
In addition to the Windows disc (or USB flash drive with the Windows installer) you'll need a 8GB+ flash drive.
The referenced manual - on page 3, I think, gives you a run-down of what you'll need before you begin the installation. You may also want to post any further Boot Camp questions in the Boot Camp forum -> https://discussions.apple.com/community/windows_software/boot_camp.
    Good luck,

  • New mbpr late 2013 2.6GHz

    Hi there
I just bought a new mbpr late 2013 15" yesterday.
The battery is fully loaded but only has power for 3 hours and 15 minutes?
And the display brightness is very low..
Running OSX Mavericks, my old mbp 2008 has a better battery life time....
    Any suggestions on this?

    I have the same model.
There have been reports of incorrect estimated battery time remaining under Mavericks. Also, if you are performing GPU/CPU intensive tasks on battery power, these reports would be close to expected (Handbrake for encoding, gaming, etc).
