First uninstall your antivirus. Use only a vendor-provided uninstaller or uninstallation instructions. Never remove files by hand. Never use an "app zapper".
If that doesn't fix it, take it back to Apple for service.

  • G5 start up problem: stuck at grey screen with fans running full strength

hi, i'm new to discussions, so i hope this question and my technical knowledge and descriptions will be OK: problem: G5 20" stuck at grey screen with fans running full strength..
so far i've tried but did not work:
    - power off by pressing the button for 5 secs,
    - checked all cables connections etc, take out the power cable try again, etc.
    - removed all USB connections, re-did
    - tried to use it as 'target drive' connected to my macbook by firewire
    - tried to start up and keeping C key pressed
    - tried to start up with 'shift' key pressed
    - tried to start up with command, options, P and R keys pressed,
    - i had an additional RAM, i've taken it out and tried again, no luck
    - i've put in Mac OS X install disc1, no luck, and now disc is inside my iMac, can't take it out
    any recommendations? thank you!

    Scroto,
You may not actually have a bad processor. On the Dual G5's it's not uncommon after a few years for dust and corrosion to build up between the processors and their sockets. You can fairly easily remove the processors and clean the connections yourself if you're at all handy. Basically, snap off the heatsink covers, loosen a few screws and the processor and heatsink come out as a unit.
Clean the contacts on the processors (carefully). And clean the sockets. Be sure to put the same processor in the same place or you'll have issues.
I used 90% isopropol alcohol to clean mine last year. Let it air dry and blew both the socket and the cpu off after with canned air. That done, I reinstalled the processors, buckled everything up and no more "bad" processor... The machine worked perfectly from then on and I assume it still does today. Don't know, someone stole it last month:(...

  • Running DAQ-9188 with LV13 runs great on developing machine not on target machine

    Hi
Running DAQ-9188 with LV13 runs great on developing machine, built exe, transferred to new machine and I cannot get the values to update. Front panel opens everything looks good but no updated values, and no errors. Can someone help?  Thanks.

Looks like others are pointing you in the right direction let me just add a few things.
You must have a project to build an EXE.  You add VIs to the project and then under the Build Specifications in the project you can right click and create a new EXE build.  Here you must specify what the top level VI is which is the thing that gets ran when you run the EXE.
After that you need to make an installer.  To do this go back to the project, and right click Build Specifications but this time make a build for the Installer.  Here you need to say what things to include in the installer.  You can choose to include the EXE you built earlier.  In addition to that under the "Additional Installers" section you can choose to add other installers.  The default one selected will be the run-time engine.  That thing you went and downloaded.
Other things you'll need depend on what is in your EXE.  Did you use DAQmx?  Then you'll need to include it in the additional installers.  Did you use XNET?  Include it.  Did you use Report Generation? Internet Connectivity Toolkit?  Vision?  VISA?  etc.
It is some times hard to know what to include that's why in 2013 NI added a feature to try to can for things you used and include them.
Including these things will balloon the installer.  Expect several GBs for the installer if you used DAQmx and other things.  Once these are installed on a new machine you can make an update installer that doesn't include these things, and just includes the updated EXE.

    Hey guys,
I would like to know if a late 2009 iMac with an i7 processor could edit a short film in Adobe Premiere Pro and if it could do some things in Adobe After Effects.
Please let me know how it will perform ? Is it going to crash ? PLEASE HELP
    iMac Late 2009
    Intel Quad-Core i7 2,8 GHz
    ATI Radeon HD 4850 512MB
    4GB DDR3
1TB 7200rpm HDD + External SSD that contains the editing softwares.
    Thank you very much.

Your system could use more RAM. However, it should run fine if you quit all other Apps and have plenty of free internal hard drive space.
For quality RAM upgrades, go to > OWC Macsales.com or Crucial.com

When you see a beachball cursor or the slowness is especially bad, note the exact time: hour, minute, second.
These instructions must be carried out as an administrator. If you have only one user account, you are the administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select

Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Scroll back to the time you noted above.
Select the messages entered from then until the end of the episode, or until they start to repeat, whichever comes first.

  • Ical running VERY slowly with 4 years of appointments

Ical version 2.0.5 is running VERY slowly. PowerbookG4 10.4.11. Also won't upload new data from my iphone. Itunes version 7.5. I have already reset the phone x2, and would like another way to resolving the syncing issue. Wondering if corrupt data might be contributing to the problem. HELP! I need my calendars efficient and syncing. Christine

Apple's growing too fast. They seem to be forgetting what got them here. The design and performance standards they set are beginning to fall. I bought an Apple two button mouse that clogs and works about half the time. Something I touch all day, every day works half the time. I've got iDisk and it intermittent at best. It syncs on about half my Macs I own, the other half the sync arrows spin constantly and never seem to be up to date. iCal is totally screwed up and, as I've noted in this thread, crashes my iTunes. My whole idea of moving into iCal, buying an iPhone is just out the window (pardon the pun).
I'm a Mac guy since 1987. All my work is on Mac, I stopped editing on Avid and switched to Mac, I write reviews and have always loved Mac gear. My reviews have been quoted on the Mac site. Now, the guy who has an Apple tattoo is forced to look into non-Mac products. I can no longer rely on the rock solid performance that's kept me in the fold and I can't let my business be based on a unsupported software. A calendar!!! How can a calendar be this screwed up? I swear, I wrote a better calendar program in Hypercard! Apple, you've got to get your eye back on the ball before it's too late!

  • I have a late 2009 imac i am having issues with my screen flickering and getting dark

i have a late 2009 imac  21 inch i am having problems with my screen flickering ND GETTING DARK DOES THIS MEAN THAT MY COMPUTER IA FAILING

I have partly the same problem (Sceen blackening) sparodically.
2010 iMAC  with I7 CPU and ATI Radeon HD 4850 512 MB Graphics.
If I lower the brightness to around (3 or sometimes 4 of the on screen squares F2) the issue does not happen at all. I prefer a bright screen.
The issue commenced immediately after instaalling OS X 10.8.2 update one year ago.
The current software is  OS X 10.9 (13A603)
The graphics on this computer are always first rate when working properly even at maximum brightness
There are particular days and times when the problem routinely occurs.
Some of my neighbors with iMacs have similar problems.
I live adjacent to the City of London in an area where new building seems to be developing faster than the various utilities and there are known Power Network issues. Professional surge supressors make no difference.
I live in a large property with four independent ring mais. The issue is present on all four rings. I have yet to take the computer elsewhere to possibly eliminate power issues from the problem.
I am reluctant to replace an otherwise fine top of range iMac which otherwise serves me well since the same problems might be present.

  • Imac intel start up problems and fan runs constantly on high

I got my Imac 17 Intel Duo Core on March 16th and 10 minutes after I started it the screen went black and a little light started flashing on the lower right. After holding the power button it finally turned off but would not boot up, just that black screen and blinking light. I was told by tech to unplug everything for a few minutes then put the plug in just the Imac, then hold the power button down while plugging it in. Well it started after that but the fan was on high constantly. This was remedied by unplugging everything for a few minutes and then starting back up normally. Now it runs in stealth mode being virtually silent. If your Imac intel is making noise it's not normal. Check out this site for noise problems.

I second Dave it needs to go back to service. What I have heard happens sometime is one of the temperature sensors is either not put back on properly during reassembly or it comes of soon after. With an incorrect temperature reading that particular fan will run at full speed. You can check the fan speeds by installing iStat Pro: http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/27037

  • 3 Beeps  with fans running full at start up (Sometimes)

WOW I have an iBook situation. this one is 14mths old it HAS been sent to an apple service agent, hers what happens.
On startup the iBook may occassionally start with fans full and three 3 beeps and the sleep light just flashes thee time pause flashes three time. YOU can restart and you may start OK or you may get the same result or you may get all fans for a few seconds and then nothing no beeps and no well nothing. The iBook is being used by a student and has had no extras added from purchase. I do not have extended warenty any ideas of cause or solution. Apple service sentre have sent it back twice stating no fault found after runn AHT for over two weeks, I told them it is a start up issue but they say no fault found.

You might want to take a look at this article: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=58442 or to this article: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=58183.
If I'm reading them correctly, the iBook has bad RAM.
Are you sure no additional RAM was installed on the machine?
If you wish to check, the RAM would be located underneath the Airport card, which is underneath the keyboard.
    Here's instructions for removing RAM:http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=95147.
If you do find a RAM stick in the slot, remove it and then try booting the computer.
If no RAM is present in that slot, the main RAM (which is soldered in place) has failed. Best thing to do is call Apple & ask how much it would cost to repair. I don't know how you can replace that RAM--or if it's even possible.

  • Running out of RAM & Fan Running

I have been having problems with my Mac Book since around Nov. 2010 which just continue to get worse.   My system (now 10.6.8) continues to gobble up RAM though no programs are running.  Had 2G of RAM that was using up 75% of the RAM so upgraded to 4G of RAM, within 2 days (& after restarts) am back to the system using up around 65% of the RAM.  Fan runs & computer hot for no apparent reason, with just safari & this page open.  Have added Privacy for my bootcamp partition in Spotlight, still seems to have the problem.  Have reset the PRAM & SCM.  Anyone else with this problem?

Looking at your Free RAM is a useless measure, as the goal of any operating system should be to take full advantage of all the RAM it can.  Otherwise it is wasting your money because you paid for something the OS is not using, and worse, it is not taking full advantage of the best resource for allowing your system to run at its faster.
The operating system should be giving RAM to any process that needs it, and if the applications do not need it, the operating system should be using that RAM for a file system cache so you can avoid very expensive disk I/O.  And by expensive, I mean expensive in time, expensive in power consumption, and expensive in wear and tear on your disk drive.
On Mac OS X, you want to look at both Free and Inactive memory to see how much memory is availble for processes to use.  Inactive memory is often used a a file system cache.  But Inactive memory may also contain the code for a recently quit program so that if you start that program again, it can quickly be re-activated from the cached code already in memory.
As Linc has suggested, you want to look at Activity Monitor and see if there is an app or daemon that is consuming lots of Real Memory.
If you think your Mac is using too much memory, then you might also run an Applications -> Utilities -> Terminal -> "sar -g 60 100" command, which should let you see your pageout activity once a minute for 100 minutes (adjust the numbers to suite your tastes).  If mostly you have zero or very low numbers, you are NOT suffering from lack of RAM.  If you have a few spikes, that might come from starting a new app, or switching between apps.  If you have sustained pageout activity, that might indicate the work you are doing it stressing your available RAM and might benefit from running fewer concurrent apps, or getting more RAM for what you are doing.
It is very rare for the operating system itself to be the cause of excessive RAM usage.  More frequently it is an app or daemon that gets memory hungry.
Also Linc's suggestion to boot in Safe Mode is an excellent idea, as that will eliminate any 3rd party drives, kernel extensions, or daemons.  If the problem continues when running in Safe Mode, then that would increase your argument that it is something Apple provided.  If the problem goes away when booted in Safe Mode, it tends to indicate there is a 3rd party driver, kernel extension, or daemom that is causing the problem.

  • Replace MiDAS with labview in a high speed camera

Has anyone out there used MiDAS for high speed camera aquisition? The camera came with MiDAS. However the camera can be operated through labview which I'd prefer for better data aquistion. Does anyone have a program for this? Or know somewhere to look? Or help me get started to build my own program.
The camera will be connected to a NI USB 6251
    Thanks!

  • Mail consumers all memory, seems to run fine, but makes fan run constantly.

Recently, Inoticed that my fan runs a lot lately and used Activity Monitor to see what was going on and sure enough, Mail is using 99% of my CPU... I have always left my Mail on and left it to check for incoming messages, but until about a week ago, the fan started to run and the computer would get warm. Before doing the Activity Monitor, I started shutting things down one at a time and noticed that shutting Mail down would do the trick. I am curious: why is Mail now after months starting to make my computer run at such high temps? Is it a mail storage thing? A Newtwork thing? Any suggestions? I have taken a sample of the program and I can't make heads or tails of it... I just see it takes up everything thanks in advance.

Yes, I have been doing the same thing, but I want to know what has changed. I have looked at the activity monitor and see that my activity skyrockets and it says it's cooking at 99%+ activity, and the fan kicks in, and then when I quit it, the whole thing goes back to normal... it seems to be this one app and nothing else...

  • How can I use my Late 2009 iMac as an external monitor with my new MacBook Pro 15" Retina

I want to use my iMac (Late 2009) as an external Display for my new 15" MacBook Pro Retina, I need to know what Cables to use so I can go buy them the Apple Store, I already tried a thunderbolt cable between the two and that doesn't work, but I think this might
              iMAC                                                                                 MBP 15" Retina
Mini display Port to VGA adaptor -> VGA Cable -> Mini Display Cable to VGA adaptor
    or maybe
Mini Display port to HDMI adaptor -> HDMI Cable -> HDMI Port on MBP
Pleae help I can't seem to figure it out online.
    Thanks!

    Hello, All-
I too am very interested in the answer to this query. Same set up, same fail w/the Thunderbolt cable. The Genius Bar at the Apple Store was no help & recommended I bring my 27" iMac into the store...seriously? Their ultimate answer was that I needed a plain old male-male mini display port cable....that the Thunderbolt cable was the problem. Bloody unlikely, I say. Another guy in the store agreed with me this morning, so swapped out the cable. I was hoping upon hope it was a bad cable, but no such luck—still nothing. Next I tried a mini-display-port-to-DVI adapter—DVI cable—mini-display-port-to-DVI adapter. This also did not work. Is there a chance that the iMac running Snow Leopard and the MacBook running Mountain Lion is the problem???
