Late MBP 13 Retina fan running and OS freezing

late MBP 13 Retina fan running and OS freezing

Yes, Vm lets you sett how much memory you would like to dedicate to the platform. So you should be running it with 2gb on Mac and 2gb on your Vm. If you ever run more games that would require more RAM space I would recomend upgrading to 8gb.

  • Guys, I have a MBP Retina end 2012 and I run BF3 on it. The problem is that my FPS in LOW quality is 28 average! WTH is going on?

Ok. As I said, my MBP Retina in running BF3 really poorly. I tried the SMC reset and PRAM reset, but doing it EVERY time I want to play does not solve the problem. In many cases it still shows 19 - 28 FPS performance even after the resets.
I really want to know what Apple says about this!
My MBP has 16GB RAM and I am running the game trought the SSD via BOOT CAMP.
Obviously the hadware is strong enought. I even saw some tests on youtube where in high settings the same MBP made 50 FPS average!
    Any miracles?
Thanks everyone in advance for any help given.
PS. Apple, if you want, you can pronounce yourself about it!
    Dan

    First of all. Thank you!
And about Windows, I am following the same procedures as the test I saw on youtube. Original BOOTCAMP drivers.
I'm not really sure if the Windows OS cloud affect it so badly! I mean, the only thing I have there are my games: BF3 and small steam games. Nothing really heavy.
I installed that only for gaming, not even office programs.
Do you belive that my windows version cloud cause this? (even using the same as tested)

this has never happend before and i am starting to get worried..

  • MBP Retina: fan active all the time - is it normal ?

I switch on my MBP retina and from the very beginning an audible fan starts, although the laptop itself is very cold and there is nothing else than Safari going on. Is it normal ?

It's normal for the fans to run at about 2,000rpms but you shouldn't be 'hearing' them at that point. It 'sounds' as if your fans are really pumping if you're able to hear them (when my fans rev up to the 3,500+rpms state, I can hear them, but otherwise they're quiet).
Download iStat Menus (available for a free trial but worth every penny for me) and see how high your fans are running and how hot your MBP is running. Call back with that info.

  • MBP Retina fan spinning while CPU is idle

    Hello,
We have 2 MBP Retina in our household. I purchased mine shortly after it came out, my GF's laptop is just a week old. During heavy CPU usage the fans become noticable. I know this from my laptop only when I do things like encoding videos. However, during normal use of Safari and OUtlook I never ever hear the fans. On my girlfriend's laptop however the fans kick in a few times during the day while she is only using safari. One might say that she looks at flash heavy sites, which is not true. She was just reading BBC News like ma at the same time, and I could hear her fans spinning. The CPU usage on her laptop was around 5%.
Not sure why this only happens on hers. I have a ton of stuff running all the time, and I never hear the fans spinning in my MBP.

Thanks for the tip.  I entered the command and it states: Processes at 158 total, 4 running, 2 stuck, 152 sleeping, 887 threads.  Load Average 1.18, 1.37, 1.32.  CPU Usage 2.31% user, 4.18% sys, 93.7% idle.  Running at the same temps as shown above.  I reset PRAM, restrated computer, etc.  Unless I only have one window open doing one thing, it gets very warm per the temps noted in my original post.

  • Cold MBP, exhaust fan running full speed

    Hello,
My 3mo old MBP exhaust fan has started running full speed (6200rpm), no processes or heat are to blame.
iStat pro say's the fan is currently at 6196rpm, highest temp sensor is at 30 degrees C.
Process monitoring says kernel_task using 160% of my two cores (interrupts?), this is a cause or a effect.
Reseting SMC had no improvement (unsure if I've managed to do correctly). Appart from that the machine works, very slowly, noisy, and very cold on my laps.
I'm on a business trip, don't have the diagnostic CD with me...
Any ideas so I can at least work during this trip ?
Thanks for your help, and for these forums.

    Hello folks,
I'm in the same situation, the only difference is my hardware from 2006:
    Model Name: MacBook Pro
    Model Identifier: MacBookPro1,2
    Processor Name: Intel Core Duo
    Processor Speed: 2,16 GHz
After running the ASD, I got this:
    +Temp Sensor - Palm rest L test 1 - Sensor Reads Within Operating Range.+
+-Check to ensure that sensor reads within operating range.+
    +ERROR - Unable to read sensor+
    +- T E S T F A I L E D -+
The sensor code is the same one from the post above: Ts0P.
So now, after looking for more than 4 hours on the internet, I couldn't find a clue.
What exactly is the location of this sensor?
Can someone please post a picture?
    How can i fix this?
    Thanks for everybody.

  • Why does the fan run and the bottom of the computer get very hot?

The computer didn't used to do this (it is only about 15 months old).  Lately the fan will run and the computer will get hot on the bottom of the case.  Any suggestions as to cause and what I should do about it?

    Read through this:

  • MBP (retina) get hot and fans run so fast

    Dear All,
I have MacBook pro with Retina Display. I use it for designing, programming and web browsing
I notice when I'm running Adobe Ps and Ai with (Firefox or Safari of Google chrome) and Parallels, ( also online movies)
getting very hot and I little nosie speed fans
so how to solve this problem
it's need to return it to App store?

the things you are describing are all very process intensive in their own rights and very much so if all running together on the mac at once. this would be expected product behavior while doing the things you mentioned.
you can do SMC reset which regulates the fan in the mac this article tells how to do that:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
basically unless you can limit the types of apps you run at one time this may be ongoing issue for you since it's normal for the mac to run hot when the processor is running hard

  • 13 MBP Retina -- fan comes on and system slows to a crawl

I had seen there was a firmware SMC update v1.1  for the 15in. Is there somethng like that for the 13in

    More activity monitor observations..
When the fan is on the %CPU for kernal task was at 341.9
I close the lid wait a second for fan to shut off. open back up.
and right now kernal task is cruising at 1.4 to 4.7 %   ( normal )
When it is a 341% clearly it is locked up with some process that is either poorly written or otherwise in some infinite loop ( small pun )
There is nothing else in the activty moniter that looks likes it is contributing to the 341.9% cpu ..

  • Macbook Pro Retina fan runs constantly

    Hi,
I have a mid 2012 15 inch Retina Macbook Pro  that was running absolutely fine till last 2 years. Just recently it is creating problem like the fans of the laptop run constantly even under normal cpu load and temperature. I have tried every possible guide and way to fix it but just couldn't solve it.
Then I ran the hardware test and found out the following error:
    4SNS / 1 / 40000000 : Th2H - 127.875
After little bit of googling, I found out the error code referred to sensor related problems. Important to mention here, I live in Bangladesh where apple does not have a direct store but 1 - 2 authorised retailers and service providers. So I took my laptop to one of the authorised service providers w/o any delay and they told me I have to change my logic board as there's no other way to fix it. And changing the logic board will cost me hefty usd 1200 approximately which is a lot for me.
So can anyone suggest me what to do now. Is the error code really refers to replacing my logic board? Is there any way to skip the replacement? I mean is there any way to control fan by any app? What best I can do now?
I will highly appreciate if anyone gives me an honest opinion.
    Thanks.

Not sure of the feasibility of this, but one potentially cheaper option would be to buy a matching model from Ebay that has a non-logic board related fault (screen, physical damage, etc.) that can be bought cheap and the logic board transplanted to your own. At $1200 you are clearly in the "buy a new one" category. You would have to consider things like whether the MPB is registered (and potentially locked) like iOS devices can be. Not sure if the same security applies to Macs?
If replacement is your only option, then you should still be able to sell your current MBP on Ebay for parts.
Perhaps contact Apple direct and see if you can arrange a direct repair with them? I am assuming you didn't purchase the Applecare cover (which if only 2 years old would still cover your MPB).

  • Macbook Pro running Mavericks has fans running and constantly losing disc space

I installed Mavericks on my macbook pro (2.4Ghz intel core 2 duo, about 8 years old) in late october.
Since then, it's been running a bit slow quite a lot, and then has gradually developed more and more of a problem:
    - fans blow alot of the time
    - it loses disc space all the time, including when asleep
I did a reinstall from a back up a few weeks ago and this seemed to improve things for a bit, but today I woke it up this morning to find that my disc space had gone down to 60mb and this continued to dwindel until it was showing nothing, and couldn't function.
Around then I got a SMART warnign that my drive was goign to fail.
Opening it in safe mode it worked, with the fans not blowing at all and with a bit more hard drive space.
I did a bit of reparing permissions in disj utitlity and using disk warrior. DIsk warrior hardware check finds its working ok.
I used Grand Perspective and foudn that two lost+found files were each taking up 4gb of space. After reading around I tired out putting them in the trash and rebotting, and then when my machine was ok in normal mode, I deleted them.
I now have 10gb of space and in normal mode, my fans are even not blowing. So something seems possibly to be fixed for the moment.
    I've turned off dropbox.
    However:
    - the amount of space is possibly still going down (from 10.6gb to 10.14gb in the past half hour) and I'm just running safari.
    - should I basically do a clean install of mavericks?
    Any advice much appreciated!

I should also add that it has the problem where when it goes to sleep it's 50/50 as to whether it will wake up or not. If I click 'put hard disks to sleep when possible', it wakes up fine, but I don't like doing this.

  • 15 " MBP C2D fans running at full speed all the time

    hi
just purchased new MBP C2D 15 inch, the fans are running all the time at full speed (or at least sound noisy).
i know there were several updates on earlier machines but none for this one that i can see.
    SMC Version: 1.12f5.
    any idea's please.
    thanks

A very reasonable thought although it's clearly not DOA. Nor do we know whether it was bought as a CTO or not. The requirements for classing a system DOA are very clear and this system, while possibly not operating correctly, certainly is not a DOA.
I would however make every effort to determine the cause of the problem. Potentially the issue can be caused through software and no fault of Apple. Being able to quantify an issue does go a long way to resolving it.

  • MBP 15 is running and screen goes white with thin vert lines

Running normally and if I adjust the screen angle it goes white with lines.  Just started happening.  10.5.8 about 4 years old

Based on your post, that seems the most likely problem but it could be something else.  Before any repair is attempted, the problem has to be properly defined.  You may try iFixit.com and see if they can advise you, have a replacement part and attempt to fix it yourself.  This certainly depends upon all the chips falling into the right place with no guarantees of success.  You must also consider the age of the MBP and its worth vs. the cost of the repair.
    Ciao.
