Lately accessing gmail on Firefox has seemed so slow with non-responding messages

Firefox WAS my favorite browser. lately, it seems like I am dragging an anchor when accessing gmail through it. I keep getting annoying Firefox is not responding messages. Also, in several of my many gmail accounts, I get notices that I have been signed out and have to copy whatever messages I am writing, log out, log back in again and then have to paste the message and then continue.
The first problem has gotten so prevalent and a frustrating waste of my time and energy that I am switching back to Internet Explorer. Please do share any recommendations.

Hi Bettertown47,
Sorry to hear you had such poor experiences with 8.0.1. I never had thos issues with it, but I'm sure it was frustrating. You should try 9.0.1 and see if that helps. There have been some significant improvements in speed and performance. If you are interested, just take a look at [[Updating Firefox]] for steps.
Cheers!

  • How do I remove a gmail calendar which has inadvertantly become merged with my home apple calendar

    how do I remove a gmail calendar which has inadvertantly become merged with my home apple calendar?
    I have to view the gmail calendar as well, but now some entries are appearing as duplicates.
    Currently I view my own apple calendar (home), a gmail calendar, a googlemail calendar and a friend's icloud calendar  on the same screen - (all view only).
    Hiding or deleting either the gmail OR the Home calender leaves me with missing entries.
    Showing both gives duplicates.
    Help please.
    Earlier today, I lost my friend's calendar (icloud on an iPad) when he accidentally changed something.   Trying to get that back (unsuccessfully) he or I must have inadvertantly changed someting, but don't know what.
    I also view my calendar on ipad2 and iphone 5, but have not touched any of these settings.
    Getting desperate! - the gmail and googlemail are the church calendars and there will be chaos if I can't get this fixed!

    pretty sure in the settings -> email and stuff or maybe the notifications you can disable the gmail calendar at least theres where mine are along with the facebook and the other calendars you can add and remove

  • Since the last automatic update, Firefox has been running slow as molasses, with a refresh box coming up constantly. What can I do to correct this?

    Since the last automatic update (approx. one week ago) my Firefox has been running slow as molasses and I keep getting a "refresh" box popping up when the pages get hung up (very often)
    What can I do to correct this? I clean my cache out at least once daily - most days more. Virus scan says I'm clear of viruses - Glary Utilities tells me that all changes to my registry have been fixed (sneaky apps trying to get in) I'm going crazy because I am used to my FF being fast! HELP!!!

    If you have problems with updating then best is to download the full version and uninstall the currently installed version.
    Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
    * Firefox 4.0.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html
    * Firefox 3.6.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html
    * Uninstall your current Firefox version and remove the Firefox program folder before installing that copy of the Firefox installer.
    * Do not remove personal data if you uninstall the current version.
    Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Firefox Profile Folder] and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.

  • Firefox has been real slow for past 2 days, IE is fine

    Hi,
    For the last 2 days Firefox has been real slow in terms of browsing and wont even start downloads in a lot of cases.
    I upgraded to Firefox 4 today to see if it would solve the problem but it didnt. A lot of times websites show up messed up and its getting really annoying.
    What is wrong with Firefox?

    You should also update Flash.
    See http://www.mozilla.com/plugincheck/
    Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
    * Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

    After opening certain websites, pogo, firefox 4.0.1 closes with no error message. When I restore the session I get: Well, this is embarrassing. Firefox is having trouble recovering your windows and tabs. This is usually caused by a recently opened web page.
    I have had this problem before and had to reinstall an earlier version of firefox.
    The error console has a long list of errors, many of them end with: does not implement nsIObserver. Is there a way to send the information on the error console to firefox support?
    Redownloading Firefox 4.0 will fix my problem until I either close firefox or turn off my computer. The problem recurs when I open firefox again.

    It is also possible that there is a problem with the files [http://kb.mozillazine.org/sessionstore.js sessionstore.js] and sessionstore.bak in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Profile Folder]
    Delete the files sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.

    If you see files sessionstore-##.js with a number in the left part of the name like sessionstore-1.js then delete those as well.<br />
    Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups to get lost, so you will have to create them again (make a note).

    My 2011 MBP has begun running slow with frequent 'spinning beach ball' events. I'm running Yosemite and wondered if I should of use the original install disk for a maintenance reinstall. I presume I'd have to download Yosemite again, though I'd be happy just using Snow Leopard again too.
    Thanks for the help.

    When you see a beachball cursor or the slowness is especially bad, note the exact time: hour, minute, second.

  • I cannot access gmail via Firefox 3.6.22

    Because you have upgraded Firefox and seen to it that the new version will not work well with older versions of OS X (mine is 10.4.11) I cannot access my gmail any longer via Firefox. Gmail no longer supports the older Firefox. You are all in cahoots. This kind of planned obsolescence is disgusting. It forces people to continue upgrading and spending. Capitalists! disgusting!

    Nope. I have a mac, running OS X 10.4.11, and I can no longer access gmail if I use the Firefox browser. it just spins it wheels. I can however access it no problem with Camino. Sure, not all options are now available to me, but I frankly dont care. I just want to access my mail. No go with Firefox.

  • Firefox has become noticeably slower - particularly in closing - i haven't timed it but sometimes it seems to take at least a minute for it to finally close - any suggestions?

    i also get a message sometimes that says something is going wrong with a script - i always choose to stop the script - i don't know if its related
    the slow closing isn't an every time occurrence but happenes more than 50% of the time - it seems to get worse the longer Firefox has been open

    My first reaction is it sounds like you're pocket dialing your passcode?  In iOS 6, it used to be you could go Diagnostics & Usage Data under Settings and see if things were crashing on your phone due to bad memory, but don't know if that works in iOS 7.0.4 on the 4s, but that's the first thing I'd look for.  (I think crash notifications return in iOS 7.1?)

  • Cannot access gmail on Firefox with Windows 8.1

    When I try to access gmail, I get the following message from FireFox:
    "Untrusted Connection"
    "If you usually connect to this site without problems, this error could mean that someone is trying to impersonate the site, and you shouldn't continue.
    This site uses HTTP Strict Transport Security (HSTS) to specify that Firefox only connect to it securely. As a result, it is not possible to add an exception for this certificate.
    mail.google.com uses an invalid security certificate. The certificate is not trusted because no issuer chain was provided. (Error code: sec_error_unknown_issuer)"
    Additionally, Firefox offers no other solution to this problem.
    This is a new HP laptop with Windows 8.1. My previous laptop had Windows 7 and before that all of the other Windows versions and I've never had a problem accessing Gmail before using Firefox.
    I use gmail literally all day long for my work. Please fix this or tell me how to fix it.

    hi, in order to know what's going on we probably need more information about the issuer of the failing certificate. please proceed like this:
    enter '''chrome://pippki/content/exceptionDialog.xul''' into the location bar, and in the page that opens, set the server location to "https://mail.google.com" in order to retrieve and view the certificate.
    then please report back with the data of the issued by section of the certificate viewer.
    thank you!

  • Cleared cache cookies everything gmail gets Firefox has detected that the server is redirecting the request for this address in a way that will never complete.

    In order to login to gmail. I have cleared cleaned everything. Reset firefox. Deleted possible corrupt cookie files in profiles. Use ccleaner and firefox cache remover. Made sure proxy is off. No add ons. To no avail. No to problem in chrome or internet explorer accessing gmail.

    Sorted! I cleared the history for Gmail using the history browser and clicking "Forget About This Site." and bingo it picked it up again. Thanks.

  • Firefox has become extremely slow in the recent times

    Firefox suddenly has become very slow. It takes too much time to load all websites and even the typed words and scrolling has a great delay in appearing. It becomes unresponsive very often. I tried reinstalling it and even reset it. Its becoming a pain to use this to surf the net. Please do help!!

    I also have found that Firefox has become a dog. I've followed one thread that disabled the plugin-container with no help. 20.0.1 can hang for over a minute and actually hog my entire CPU so I can't even start Chrome! I like my FF plug-ins, but the performance problems of FF 20 are becoming intolerable and no one seems to know what the heck! Chrome does not present the problems and I have been visiting and working at the same websites. If many folks are encountering this mess, I suspect that FF is done for. I have actually found that the Android FF is also tending to slow down my smartphone - stall it! I am a few days away from just removing FF from my computing life.

  • Firefox 31 hangs on startup with no error messages

    Simply put, Firefox hangs right on startup. I see it loading the two generic tabs and then the wheel spins and then it says 'Not Responding' on the top of the window. I have to force close it each and every time, and I've also tried the following solutions in no particular order to alleviate the issue:
    1) Ran SuperAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes last night for any possible infections. Reported back with nothing.
    2) Booted my laptop up in Safe Mode (with networking) and still couldn't get it to operate.
    3) Performed several clean uninstalls and re-installations which also included clearing out the profiles altogether and then trying to open it again, nothing.
    4) Booted up Firefox by holding down the shift key and resetted it to its default settings and then tried firing it up again. Nothing.
    5) Attempted booting up FF in Safe Mode with the shift key, nothing.
    6) Created a new profile and tried booting FF, nothing.
    7) Read this article http://kb.mozillazine.org/Firefox_hangs#Hyper-Threading about Hyper-Threading and followed the instructions which got it to operate, but I can't access the toolbar or the option menus. When I click on options Firefox closes with no error messages. I have a feeling this isn't the issue at hand but I figure I'd try it and at least I can get it to fully load and not hang.
    8) Deleted all Firefox extensions and Plug-ins, nothing.
    9) Enabled Firefox through firewall and antivirus settings, nothing.
    10) Updated my BIOS firmware as suggested in #7, nothing.
    I've done almost 10 different things and I still can't figure out why Firefox keeps hanging on startup. I've looked into Youtube videos for tutorials and others posted about the Java crashing that was happening in an earlier version of FF. Since its not crashing, I'm unable to look into the crash logs and pinpoint a crash number or anything because it just freezes and when I click to close it I get a message saying: 'Close program' or 'Wait for it to respond.'
    I'm running a 64 bit Windows 7 on an HP Pavilion g6-1c44wm Notebook PC
    Microprocessor 2.10 GHz Intel Pentium Processor B950
    Microprocessor Cache 2MB L3 Cache
    Memory 4GB DDR3 SDRAM (1 DIMM)
    Memory Max Maximum supported = 8GB
    Video Graphics Intel HD Graphics
    Video Memory Up to 1696MB
    Hard Drive 500GB 5400RPM)
    I'm trying to be specific as possible! Please help! I'm at the end of my rope here!

    Try to completely uninstall firefox, that means to '''delete''' the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Installation_directory#Windows Installation directory] located for your 64bit in C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\ , also, '''delete''' the C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Mozilla\Firefox and '''if exist''', '''delete''' the C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox.
    then download and install again a new full installer from : https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/
    disable firewall and antivirus and antispyware for a little bit, and run firefox. any luck ?
    thank you

  • @protocol doesn't seem to work with non-primitive arguments

    Any idea why this works.
    CustomProtocol1.h
    @protocol CustomProtocol1
    - (void) start:(int) offset;
    @end
    But this doesn't:
    CustomProtocol2.h
    @protocol CustomProtocol2
    - (void) start:(CustomClass*) custom;
    @end
    The only difference is that CustomProtocol1 uses a non-primitve argument. Here is the error I get for CustomProtocol2: "Syntax error before 'CustomClass'. Method definition not in @implementation context"
    It seems CustomProtocol2 has problems finding the CustomClass.h but if I add #import "CustomClass.h" into CustomProtocol2.h I get this error: "Cannot find protocol declaration for 'CustomProtocol2'"
    So far, I can only conclude that Objective-C @protocol does not work with non-primitives.
    Any help would be MUCH appreciated.
    Anthony

    The compiler doesn't know what CustomClass is. You have to tell it. However, it is a pointer and, hence, actually is a "primitive" (AKA POD - plain 'ole data) type. So, you need to forward declare CustomClass like so:
    @class CustomClass;
    @protocol CustomProtocol2
    - (void) start:(CustomClass*) custom;
    @end

  • My MacBook has become too slow with almost all the applications and with Mail it it worst. Almost like hang.

    I am using MacBook with 4GB RAM and 500GB hard disc, 2.26GHz CPU, Mountain Lion OS. The machine has become so slow it hamperes lots of work as with almost all the application it beclome unresponsive and hang like.
    Also disc permission changes over the period of time and need to clean it. After clean it, it improves a bit but the Mail function which is ridiculously slow. Address book never function to remove duplicate.
    Kindly ifnorm the solution if anybody have.

    If you do a safe boot, holding the shift key down while booting, do you have the performance issues? If not, check your login items as well as any software listed at the bottom of the System Preferences pane. A software incompatibility could cause performance issues. Note a safe start will take longer than a normal start.
