Lately, when I message a Buddy on Aim Express, or if a Buddy sends me a message, the Firefox window gets narrower. Contacting AIM/AOL several ways hasn't gotten a response.

I just expand the window when this happens, but it's annoying.
It wasn't happening til about 3 weeks ago (I'm guessing).
I only know enough about computers to be dangerous, so while I hope someone can help, registry stuff , etc, is beyond me.

You should also remove all the old versions of the Java Console extensions (Tools > Add-ons > Extensions)<br />
See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Java#Multiple_Java_Console_extensions
You can look in the C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\extensions folder to see if there are folders with a name {CAFEEFAC-00XX-0000-0005-ABCDEFFEDCBA} and remove them all or only leave {CAFEEFAC-0016-0000-0021-ABCDEFFEDCBA} (Java 6 update 21) if it is there.

  • The Firefox window pops up on a regular interval when any other program is being used, even when a film is playing in full screen mode from Firefox.

The Firefox window pops up on a regular interval (I think every 5 or 10 min) when any other program is being used, even when a film is playing in full screen mode from Firefox. It does not happen if Firefox is not running (i.e. it does not start by itself). The OS is Windows 7 SP1 and this begun after installing the Firefox update 5.0.1. Exactly all programs are updated with the latest version, the computer is clean according to Microsoft Security Essentials. Please solve this problem.

  • When minimizing the Firefox window, it totally disappears and can't be maximized again.

After a unknown crash of Firefox, I restarted Firefox.
The button appeared in the tasbar, but the window was never to be found.
    Clicking the button didn't help.
I used the windows taskmanager to maximize the window, which worked OK, but.........
When clicking the "size down" button (top right middle button), the window again disappeared and could not be resurrected again in a normal way.
So at the moment I am stuck with a maximaized window, and I can't resize and move it anymore....
Sincerly hope you have a solution....
    Best regards,
    Lody J. Claessen

    * Use Restore or Maximize in the right-click context menu of the Taskbar icon to set focus to the Firefox application if you do not see the Firefox window.
    * Open the system menu of that Firefox window via Alt+Space and see if you can move and resize that window (use the keyboard cursor keys).
If that works then first close all other open Firefox windows and then close Firefox via "File > Exit/Quit" to save that setting.
If the above didn't help then see:

  • Bookmark drop downs that go outside the Firefox window are left on the desktop when bookmarks closed requiring a refresh to clean up

If I open Bookmarks and select a folder that is longer than the Firefox window is high, the part of the bookmarks list that falls outside the window remains on the desktop when I leave bookmarks or close the window. I must then do a refresh of the desktop to get rid of the junk. Does not happen with MS IE9. I am using Windows 7 Home Premium on a SONY VAIO laptop. It started when I went to the VAIO last November. A "Show Desktop" or a refresh of the desktop cleans it up.

Could you try disabling graphics hardware acceleration? Since this feature was added to Firefox, it has gradually improved, but there still are a few glitches with some graphic cards/drivers.
You usually need to restart Firefox in order for this to take effect, so save all work first (e.g., mail you are composing, online documents you're editing, etc.).
orange Firefox button ''or'' classic Tools menu > Options > Advanced
On the "General" mini-tab, uncheck the box for "Use hardware acceleration when available"
If you restart Firefox, is the issue resolved?

  • When I have all Firefox windows minimized, and am using another program or am idle, the Firefox windows keeping randomly popping up. How can I stop this behaviour?

I'm running Windows 7 and Firefox 6.0.2. When I have all Firefox windows minimized and am working in another program, the Firefox windows just randomly open in front of my other app and interrupt me. I have to minimize them again. It is extremely distracting and annoying, and often interrupts in the middle of something important. How can I stop Firefox from doing this?

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
*Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

Firefox 4 and later versions save the previous session automatically, so there is no longer need for the dialog asking if you want to save the current session.<br />
Use "File > Exit" or "Firefox > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit Firefox") if you want to restore multiple windows.<br />
You can use "History > Restore Previous Session" to get the previous session at any time.<br />
You may need to click the orange/gray Firefox button to see History.<br />
There is also a "Restore Previous Session" button on the default <b>about:home</b> Home page.
    Another possibility is to use:

  • Why do I see only the border of the Firefox window when I project the image wirelessly?

I am trying to use FF on a Dell Latitude latop to an Infocus projector using LiteShow Manger to connect the two- the connection is wireless. I have no problems with establishing a connection nor do I have any problems with seemingly any other piece of software on this system as far as the image being displayed on the screen. FF will open properly with no hesitation or error message and the home page is displayed just as it is seen on the laptop. This is the weird part....the image on the laptop is normal and changes with the clicks of the mouse or use of the keyboard, but the image on the projector will stick and freeze on the initial image. I can see the mouse move across the FF window but no changes are displayed on the projected image. The problem is isolated to the area within the blue border of the FF window. To sum up the image will not update past the initial page image in the FF browser window.

I ran into the same problem with a user. System would not draw the screen when projecting FireFox to an InFocus 1501 wireless projector.
Started FireFox in safe mode and it worked fine, but would not work in regular mode, even with all the add-ons disabled. System works just fine with IE or other applications.
Note that this just applies to FireFox 5.x and doesn't appear to be an issue with older versions.
Solution: Tools > options > Advanced > General tab > Hardware acceleration
    Turn off hardware acceleration.

  • [Solved] When I open multiple Firefox windows an orange pull down tab appears and I cannot exit from any single window. I have to exit all of the Firefox windows to close one.

I like to open several Firefox windows when I am browsing the internet. Since mi reinstall of windows XP with sp3 I installed Firefox 5.0.1. Now when I open multiple windows they kind of window in a window and I get this orange pull down menu. I can no longer close any one single window. I click the lower of the two top right X's to close the window and all the tabs in that window, but nothing happens. I also don't like the look and feel of the orange pull down menu

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
*Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
In Firefox 4 and later [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Safe_mode Safe mode] disables extensions and disables hardware acceleration.
*Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"
If disabling hardware acceleration works then check if there is an update available for your graphics display driver.

  • The new Firefox won't download on my Mac OS 10.5.8; when I downloaded it, there was a circle with a line thru it on top of the Firefox icon.

When I go to the Firefox website it says that unfortunately the latest version of Firefox is not compatible with my computer's operating system. How can I get an older compatible version?

    * Download a new copy of the Firefox program: http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all.html
    * Trash the current Firefox application to do a clean (re)install.
    * Install the new version that you have downloaded.
