Latency issue despite ASIO Drivers and Dedicated soundcard

Hi,
I have recently bought a U-phoria UM2 external USB soundcard by Behringher specifially for recording audio with (vocals) but I am having a nightmare with latency.
I'm using Audition CS6 on a desktop (i5, 8GB RAM, SSD Hard drive) and CC2014 on a laptop (also i5 8GB RAM, SSD Hard Drive).
I've checked the ASIO driver settings and tried lowering the buffer (down to 128, i get glitches with 64), the monitoring still comes out delayed...it's impossible to sing over. I've navigated all the options and menus I can think of and tried all the forums to see if I could get any tips from already answered posts but haven't found a specific case similar to mine (most have standard audio cards or no ASIO driver and seem to have solved by simply installing one of the two).
I doubt this is of any interest to the case but I'm using a Shure Beta 58 and a PG 58 to record.
Any idea on how I can proceed to solve this?
Help would be much appreciated.

Any suggestions?
Yes.  Follow ryclark's advice and press the "Direct Monitor" button on the front of the UM2. And yes, pressing the "I" button in Audition does mean that you are trying to monitor yourself through Audition, with the delay (latency) that your computer is causing. You need to be able to listen to the already recorded tracks and hear the vocals you are adding without any processing delays.  Direct Monitoring sends the audio from the computer to your headphones at the same time as the signal coming into the interface from your mic, which is also routed directly to your headphones, without first going through your computer.

  • Latency Issue with Logic 8 and Reason

    Hello evryone,
I am using Logic 8 with Reason 3.0 and have a Digi 002 as my audio interface. I have set up an aux track in Logic with inputs being RW:L/R and outputs 1&2. When I open Reason after I have opened Logic and go to play an instrument in reason there is massive latency. I've tried messing with the plu-in delay compensation in Logic's prefs. and it didn't have any effect. When I use this set-up with Protools it works beautifully and I don't have any issues like this. Does anyone have any answers or suggestions. Thanks, E.M

Hi and thanks for the response. I forgot to mention in my previous post that I have indeed changed the buffer size time and time again and it has not helped. What is going on forum? This seems to be a common problem I am having with Logic. Why is it so easy to have a set up like this in PT but not in Logic. Ever since I bought this program I have had nothing but stupid little problems like this. Apple, what's going on with the design of this program. How can you have so many cool features and yet not have the most basic things work properly? I am at my wits end as I am wasting time with this product and am about to throw it out the window, trash it to other musicians/composers and go back to PT. Really, where is the Apple support team on this?

  • Major Latency Issue with gb '09 and Midi

Just bought a cheap midi/usb cord off ebay to connect my keyboard to my iMac but am having a lot of latency trouble. Gb seems to recognise the cord and the signal from the keyboard is coming through, but it is incredibly delayed - at times it almost seems to leave notes out.
I've been looking around online for an answer, but the usual culprit in these situations seems to be old computers with insufficient RAM - and I've got 4GB. I really don't think the iMac is the problem.
I've read that for some people, just hitting record and then stopping again fixes up any latency, but this hasn't worked at all.
Is there any way to easily fix this problem and if not, is there any way to turn the automatic 'monitor' for software instruments off while i record? How likely is it that the problem lies in the cheapo cable?
    Any help much appreciated!

You are most welcome for the reply, (I hope that all it is a different cable and that takes care of latency the pain in the ... that brings
I only meant to try as a trouble shoot method re: using the Imac keyboard) and Interesting that the latency went away (if I read correctly)
I play electric guitar primarily as well as use a midi keyboard and a Korg Pad Kontrol , I was using a mixture of cables for guitar to amp, and for effects signal chain (and I read multiple articles on which brand was best and why) and chose to go with the "best" Monster Cables for all types 1/4 mono cable, 1/4 TRS
cable, short runs of 1/4 mono and TRS cables for effects and even a Y cable
and the result was a incredible increase in sound quality (I hung on to some of the other 1/4 cable (Fender, Planet Waves ) but put the others in a garage sale
The Midi cables I had were Whirlwind as well as one XLR cable and later on changed those out to Monster Cables as well. You do have to draw the line at $$ at some point and Monster Cables are nor inexpenive but have a LifeTime Warranty
(my other option was Mogami) and I have heard good things about George L's (but alot are make your own length etc and If I am paying that much I would like a completed cable (just my opinion)
Hope things get better and its always possible to get a "dud" cable especially when included with a product. Years ago Computer printers did not normally include a USB cable and now they do . And Ethernet cable can be bought so inexpensively now its rediculous,

  • What interface works best for GB? NO delay, latency issues please!!!

What is the best way to record electric guitar or a microphone (for acoustic & vocals) into Garage Band? I tried plugging directly in to the mic input and selected low latency but there still is a bit of delay. I assume I need a USB or firewire interface. What are some good ones that are ultra portable? This is for the road. Thanks for reading.

    Zadamanim wrote:
wouldnt getting a super CPU fix latency issues? even if it did have to be routed through a thousand places, a fast processor could get it done without latency issues, no?
    Yes and no!
First, Garageband gives you limited ability to change the size of its buffer, which impacts latency. So even if your CPU were fast enough, I'm not sure if GB would allow you to dial down the buffer size in order to fully take advantage of it.
Second, latency isn't only a function of CPU speed. There are other places where the audio can get bottlenecked as it makes its way in and out and through the computer. That's why some of the systems that market themselves as ultra-low latency for professional work use PCIe cards in order to shovel audio back and forth faster than is possible via USB or Firewire. For example, Apogee's Symphony System connects via a proprietary PCIe card in order to offer phenomenally low latency rivaling dedicated systems that use the computer only as a host (Garageband is a native system that uses the computer for everything).
So while a fast CPU is at the heart of the latency issue, there are a number of surrounding issues that also influence it. The workaround of having an interface with its own routing system - so you can listen to your audio as you record before it has a chance to go through the computer and get delayed - is a cheap and elegant, if imperfect solution.

  • Digi002R latency issue with Logic

I am having latency issues with my Digi002R and Logic Express. I read up here somewhere on the forum that if you initiate the Digi Core Audio manager first, set the buffer size to say 128, and then launch Logic it should sort out the latency issue. But I am still having problems. When I open Logic and set the buffer to 128, there seems to be the same latency as there is at 512. I have the lastest audio drivers. Is there something else I am not doing that can correct the latency issue. I hope the answer isn't get another audio interface. I see that there are other users on this forum that have had no issues with there Digi002R. I know that it isnt very compatible with CoreAudio, but there must be some way to resolve this issue.

    Hi,
I have the same unit as you, and did extensive latency tests.
I know that it isnt very compatible with CoreAudio, but there must be some way to resolve this issue.
This is false. Digidesign makes both the software and the hardware. It is completely compatible. You might have to get a different version CS update from Digidesign, but since you are not giving me the Core Audio software version, I can't tell you if you do need an update, or not. So far Digidesign has gone to version 7.3.1cs4, which is a recommended update for ALL users. Is this what you are running?
Here's the link to an excel spreadsheet and a PDF version as well:
    http://nicksevilla.com/audioworld/LogicTests.html
Check my spreadsheeet to see what I got as far as latency, and see if you can also do the latency test. I really want to see what numbers you are actually getting on your system, so I can update my spreadsheet as well.
    Cheers

  • Cannot get drivers and updates for my PC

I'm finally upgrading my hp pavilion d4500e cto desktop pc from XP to Windows 7 (I don't like Win 8 so got Win 7 Prof). Before upgrading, I want to update the BIOS if needed and save off the drivers and updates  to external storage. I went to the Support page > Software and Drivers and searched on my product name.  I'm having issues getting the drivers and updates I need for this PC.  If I use the Solution and Update Finder wizard, it scans forever and never stops.  I did a direct search on the product and clicked the product name.  However I then get a page that says "Page Not Found".  I tried searching for these drivers/updates on my newer HP Envy laptop thinking maybe I could at least save off from that PC.  I get the same results after I click on the product name - Page Not Found .  Help!! I need these drivers/updates ASAP. This PC still works great and has plenty of memory but due to software changes over the years I really need to upgrade to Win 7 now. TIA

    You're very welcome.
There is no W7 BIOS update for your model.
There is a BIOS update for the XP operating system and you installed it, that would be the latest version.
Do not attempt to install a BIOS update written for another operating system.  In other words, don't install that BIOS update after you install W7.
Here are the W7 x64 drivers you need...
    Chipset driver:

    Graphics:

  • Driver issues with HP Z440 and SCCM 2012 R2?

Greetings, we received our first charges of Z440 workstations last week. We immediately downloaded the HP Z440 driverpack from http://ftp.hp.com/pub/caps-softpaq/cmit/HP_Driverpack_Matrix_x64.html and imported those into our System Center Configuration Manager 2012 R2. Of course we did use the Win 8.1 drivers to inject into our boot image and wie normally imported the Windows 7 drivers for the Windows 7 deployment.Well, unfortunately SCCM WinPE5 does not show any drives installed, even with the correct drivers installed. We even tried to import  the WinPE 5 driver pack and the drivers from SoftPaq download manager, but none of those seemed to work. Is there any known issues with Z440s drivers and SCCM? Please help me out on this, it's pretty urgent. Thank you & kind regards

  • T530 and win8 latency issues

I have a Thinkpad T530 (2392-3JG) with a clean installation of Windows 8. I have been experiencing some gaming issues, when once in a while my ping rises to 500ms. I tested the issue by pinging my default gateway, and the lowest ping was 3ms, climbing to 500ms once every 15 seconds or so. I tried the same test on my win7 installation on another partition (but on the same machine), it does something similar, while ping jums "only" to about 300ms. On my sister's computer I get a constant 1ms ping to my default gateway, as it should. Therefore I think the problems must be somewhere in the drivers.
I downloaded the Intel Wireless LAN (11agn) drivers from this site: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=HT072084

I followed these steps and my latency issue did improve by about 20% - 25% so thank you, I'm now getting a PING of around 75ms - 80ms.
But I would also like to know if there are any changes I can make to the WGA600N Gaming Adapter that would decrease my PING time even further.
Since I decreased the Beacon Interval and Threshold values on the router, should I also decrease them on the advanced settings page of the gaming adapter?
On this advanced settings page there are also the options of Aggregation enabling, Short GI enabling, and Extra Wireless Protection -- Which of these boxes, if any, should I have checked?
Also, should Frame Bursting be enabled on the router, and would enabling DMZ or QoS help any?  If so, would I want to put the gaming adapter's IP address/MAC address into the DMZ/QoS or the PS3's IP address/MAC address?
Thank you for any further assisstance you can lend!

  • Does cs6 and cs3 install asio drivers?

    Hi
does audition cs6 and cs3 install asio drivers?
does they work only for audition , or they change the Operation system
i mean can i have benefit about asio using other programs?
because using other players like foobar the audio quality looks different
    thanks

Hmm... just answered this on AudioMasters.
Sound devices have their own ASIO drivers - Audition has nothing to do with this.
...and as a result of a follow-up query, I have now indicated that Audition is inherently ASIO, and obviously has ASIO components visible in the install files, but that these have nothing to do with individual device ASIO drivers, which have to come directly from their manufacturers.

  • Time Capsule stuck at Preparing for Backup, and internet TC latency issue

I have an iMac that backs up to my 1TB Time Capsule. I have had it since March. Suddenly it stopped backing up. It get's stuck at "preparing for backup" and never actually completes a backup.
I am also experiencing a HUGE latency issue with my internet connection. I am constantly having to use the 'refresh' page button in Safari.
    help....

    TB,
*_Time Machine May Report "Preparing..." For a Long Time_*
Consider these factors regarding an extended period of "Preparing...". Consider each topic separately and do not attempt to act on all of them at once.
*Recent Crash or Other Major System Event* (Deep Traversal)
The reasons for this process are described in an article by George Schreyer. “During the preparation step it checks the FSEvents log for consistency. If it determines that something isn't quite right it has to rescan the whole disk. This can take quite awhile. A full rescan is always triggered by a crash, an unplanned shut down event or by booting from some other bootable disk between backups…. After a crash, Time Machine must scan the whole disk to determine what it has to do because it cannot trust the information that it left behind. Connected via an Ethernet connection, this phase would typically take 20 minutes on an older PowerBook. Being connected wirelessly stretches this phase out to over 3 hours.” [http://www.girr.org/mac_stuff/backups.html]
According to the following KB article it can sometimes take a very long time if Time Machine begins this “deep traversal” and has to compare data inventories. This may apply to your situation, particularly if many Gigs of data are involved. (http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1516)
    *Anti-Virus Software*
Running anti-virus software can interfere with the backup process. Either disable it altogether, or try the suggestion outlined here, “If you use third-party anti-virus scanning software and have issues, make sure your Time Machine back up folder (Backups.backupdb on the Time Machine disk) is excluded from virus scanning.” (http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1516)
    *Software Updates* #
Installing new software, upgrading existing software, or updating Mac OS X system software can create major changes in the structure of your Macs directories. Time Machine will backup every file that has changed since the installation.
If you take a look at the Console logs Time Machine may be reporting that your backups need "deep traversal". That's fine. Time Machine knows what is wrong and how to fix it. If you have a great deal of data, it may take quite awhile.
After an OS update (like 10.5.5) Time Machine realizes the system no longer matches what it looked like during the previous backup. So it has determined that it's earlier catalogue of what-should-be-where is 'untrustable'. So it is going to go item-by-item comparing the before and after of your system. If you have just performed an OS Update then Time Machine knows what it's doing - let it do it!
*Spotlight Keeps Indexing Backup Drive* #
It may be that Time Machine can’t proceed or complete a backup due to a Spotlight indexing error. During this period, take a look at the Spotlight icon in the upper right corner of your screen. Is there a tiny dot pulsating in the center of the spyglass? Click on the icon. Is there a progress bar displayed? Generally Spotlight indexing is a good thing. But at time it may hang and never progress, preventing backups from taking place.
Go to System Prefs --> Spotlight --> Privacy Tab.
Drag your Time Machine disk into the window. It should now be among the items to exclude from indexing.
    Now quit System Prefs.
Reopen System Prefs and remove ("-") the Time Machine disk from the window.
This should clear out Spotlights cache. Naturally, Spotlight should begin indexing again (maybe even for a few hours depending on how much data there is), but it should eventually stop.
    *Reboot Time Capsule* #
Stop the backup from the Time Machine menu.
When the Time Machine icon stops spinning, unplug the TC from the wall outlet.
    Wait 10-15 seconds.
    Re-plug it in again.
After it has restarted (30-60 seconds), attempt another backup.
Time Machine will report “Preparing…” again, but it shouldn’t be lasting more than a couple of hours.
Let us know if any of the suggestions above helped in your case.
    Cheers!

  • Latency issue Logic pro 9.1.3.

    Hey,
At the same time as upgrading to Logic from Garageband
I bought a Cakewalk Roland UA25EX ext usb soundcard because i was told
i'd have latency issues if i used the caps lock keyboard for midi
or direct input thru the input jack of
    my MacBookPro
    (5,3 Intel Core 2 Duo 2.8 GHz)
Sometimes i use the caps lock keyboard to sketch in midi ideas and mostly it's ok.
Other times it's delayed and there's no smile on my face.
When recording with guitars/303/generators DI thru the soundcard
I have latency issues that don't seem to be very regular.
    Sometimes it's worse than others.
I make sure i have nothing else running on the computer,
just Logic Pro 9.1.3, so it's not like i'm overloading macbrains.
I have tried all the rebooting, i/o buffer size changing (down to 256), headfones from the mac output/headfones from the soundcard/ etc
    but still no luck.
I can record with the low latency button on
and it's kind of better, nearly, but that means i don't get to record with the effects on the channel strip
that affects the recording/playing quite a lot, as i'm used to recording with effects/guitar amps if i go DI.
This was the selling point - that i could record DI wthout disturbing Thee Neighbours.
It seems to have gotten worse recently.
I wonder if it's been corrupted somehow because it also has been acting funny when i bounce down -
the play head is set to 1111 and i save - then in the bounce window
the start position says a silly random number and it takes a few attempts of fiddly changes to get it to stay at 1111...frustration!
Is there something i can do or is this normal? -
it seems weird that a Pro app that cost me so much £s wouldn't work in a simple recording/bounce down set up?
or has anyone else had this problem and fixed it?
If i wipe Logic and install again would i have to go from my Logic Express and then up to my Logic Pro upgrade/extension again?
Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance

    Hey Fox,
Thanks for that info -well umm, yes i installed the correct drivers.
I use just the AU plugins or the basic logic ones on the channel strip
but even when i was going in dry there was still a delay.
I had experimented with the buffer size, as mentioned, but not gone down that low cus
last time i tried that i had other strange things happen!
    But i will try again.
Sample rate was at zero, btw. Always says zero.
But today, when i just opened logic, the sample rate had changed. Strange. I need to understand this side of things so i'm gonna read up.
Also, if plugins are involved, i installed some novation bass station and some freeware TAL bass synth
stuff recently but don't have them up when i'm recording.
Maybe they sit there quietly and interfere just by their facial expressions or sumthing!!
I booted Mr MBP just now and i pulled out the USB and he's shining me a big ole red optical light
    out of his output jack!!
In SysPrefs it has only optical digital as an output option.
In the last few days as i was playing around trying to correct the latency issue i noticed that the output options had changed to the UA25 and the 'digital optical' options - rather than the UA25 and 'line out'.
I'm off to go and read up on how to get my line out back, and try this buffer thing again.
    Thanks again

  • Audition CS6 won't recognize ASIO drivers

I am using Audition CS6 on Vista and the MME driver works fine for playback, but latency problems I can't fix on recording. Would like to use ASIO4all like I did with Audition 3.0, but I can't get Audition CS6 to recognize the ASIO drivers. I believe I have both the 32-bit and 64-bit version of ASIO4all so I don't know what's wrong. Wouldn't mind using the MME drivers, but I have a feeling that's what the problems is.

It CANNOT use true ASIO, it comes closer than others, as I have said, but the USB interface still starts the route as a windows audio device.  The manufacturers have found ways much like ASIO4All to make it appear as ASIO in your software, but since it is ran over USB it is unable to completely bypass the windows ********.  This all started in windows vista, when they completely dropped legacy ASIO support due to the amount of "issues" people were having with the fake sound cards not working in windows, so they created their own audio architecture within windows to not allow hardware level access.  This has SOMEWHAT changed with the introduction of the ASIO drivers, but it takes a lot of tricky manipulation on part of the manufacturer.  They HAVE found a way, but it requires 1. True Hardware (hardware that will run on its own, without software to do anything but communicate with motherboard (rare in modern times))  2. Direct Connection to the motherboard bus (USB is ran through a multiplexed controller that windows interprets through software what the device is and what to do with it).  Again, the problem is in how windows interprets these devices, once it has detected there is an audio device connected to USB, it runs over the windows audio interface.  Until the latest iteration of Intel chipsets and CPUs, direct connection to the CPU was impossible.  Now the controller is on the CPU and it may work as true ASIO, I haven't tried it yet to tell you for sure.  You MAY have a USB solution that works fine for you, I'm just saying it is not true ASIO due to USB, and that a sound processor connected directly to the bus routes on the motherboard is better.
The manufacturers make them because there is a market for them, but it still is not true ASIO over USB.

  • ASIO drivers for Audigy 2 SZ Video Edi

    Hi All,
I've read as much information as I could get available about the new Video Editor. It seems like a "best of both worlds" combination between a video and an audio specialized cards.
One thing I noticed on the product description is that ASIO drivers, which are proeminently featured in the descriptions of other Audigy 2 ZS cards, are not even mentioned in the Video Editor.
Any one knows if this is just an omission, or does the V.E. not support ASIO in fact?
I ask because I'm considering getting a V.E. for video capture, but also as a sound board for music creation. I don't need the Wavetable Synth integrated in all the 2 ZS, or the MIDI ports of the 2 ZS Platinum or Platinum Pro, but ASIO support is important to ensure low latency monitoring.
While we're at it, does any one already has some usage experience with the Video Editor, specially as a sound board? (I expect the video part would be quite good)
    thanks and regards,
    jos?

    Hi again,
I've just found some relevant info in the knowledge base:
Solution ID # 2378 ASIO - General Information and Essential Troubleshooting...
    Which Creative cards support ASIO2.0?
SoundBlaster Audigy 2 Platinum eX*, and Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS series...
But I expect this info (unfortunately, not date, that I could see) is previous to the quite recent issuing of the 2 ZS Video Editor in the market, so I'm still stuck with this question? Does the V.E. offer support for ASIO?
    regards,
    jos?

  • Audio latency problem with VST, SONAR and Audigy 4 PRO

    Hello all,
I have a slight problem with audio performance on my computer and I can't isolate what is wrong. I am using Cakewalk SONAR 4 studio edition, and a recently purchased Audigy 4 Pro soundcard. ( I know it's not quite professional grade, but it works well for me) I recently bought some string instruments from the Vienna Symphonic Library. So far, I love the sound of these "virtual instruments" if you will. The problem comes when I try to record them. I get stuttering and dropouts when I try to record the track in Sonar. I've tried the WDM drivers in 16 and 24 bit modes and the ASIO drivers (which apparently only support 16 bit!?) I know Creative has mentioned that these cards can record easily at 24/96 which is what I'd like if possible. Vienna instruments come in a 24 bit format. Is there something I'm doing wrong or do I need to seriously consider a different soundcard? I use Sonar to bring in the Vienna instruments as a VST. I also apply a reverb on it. When I just play this stuff on my MIDI keyboard, it all sounds great and keeps up. The moment I go to record though, I get dropouts after about 15 seconds or so. Also, is there no way to get ASIO 24 bit support for creative's consumer level cards? I'd be happy with the WDM's personally if those would work. I've looked into the KX project as well but haven't had a chance to try their drivers yet. On a different note, what are the significant differences between ASIO and WDM if any at all? (aside from supported bit rates) My current computer setup is quite powerful and I don't use much CPU power at all so I don't think it's my setup. Intel E6700 (2.67Ghz) Core 2 Duo, 2GB DDR2-800, 320GB Seagate SATA in RAID 1, Nvidia 7600GT, and Creative Audigy 4 Pro. Any help, or insight would be greatly appreciated!

Audigy 4 Pro should support 24-bit/96 kHz w/ ASIO --> have you selected those I/O drivers in Sonar audio settings (Options-Audio-Drivers -tab). ! You need to unselect all I/O drivers first to get those 24/96 drivers selectable)?
Dropouts comes from various sources. Have you checked if the read/write caching is set properly (Sonar, try different settings)?
Stuttering may come from shared IRQ/resources and PCI Latency settings.
If your graphics card is not PCIe then, make this registry tweak
Run regedit and search the key named as DisableProgPCILatency
    - set all 'DisableProgPCILatency' key values to 1 (HEX or DEC) (1 = disabled, 0 = enabled)
    - boot to BIOS settings and find the "PCI latency timer" option --> set its value to 32 or 64 (this is global PCI latency setting)
    - reboot
and check the IRQ situation. If there are IRQ shares between Audigy and other devices/controllers, try to get those fixed by disabling unneeded controllers/devices or by moving the Audigy into another PCI slot (PCI slots #3 and #4 are normally not shared).
    Couple meaninful differences between WDM/KS and ASIO are;
    - you can't get latency lower than 10 ms w/ WDM/KS (well, you can in Sonar by manually editing those buffer values but, the result is not good when you go under 10 ms buffer values (buffersize / samplerate * 1000 = latency in ms --> 512/96000*1000=5.33ms)
    and
    - you can record from one stereo (you can split this to two mono) source at a time w/ WDM (recording source is set in CT Surround Mixer (or windows recording controls))
    - ASIO supports (Audigy serie) locked 'resolutions' only - 16/48 or 24/96

Hi, We're creating an AIR 2 application in Flash CS5. Virtually all text is TLF text. It's a CPU and RAM hog. Saving the file as CS4, opening it in Flash CS5 and then generating an AIR 2 file works great, although, of course, we've lost all the TLF a
