Latency with Audigy 2 ZS PCMCIA and USB2 Midi po

I have a creative labs Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZX PCMCIA card which is plugged into my LG 3ghz Laptop.
I connect my Yamaha WX5 Midi Wind Controller to the laptop via an "M-Audio" generic USB-2 Midi port. (Because the PCMCIA card doesn't have MIDI ports).
When I play the WX5 through the laptop in this configuration, I get a 25ms latency which makes it useless for performance. In fact the latency is just as bad as when I used the on-board FM-Synth that comes with Windows.
While doing this test I used the Soundfont Bank Manager to process the midi signals. In the "Midi Devices" the Soundfont Synth is showing as the soundfont device, so I am quite sure it's not using the on-board FM synth by mistake.
I also tried using Jazz++ to process the midi signals instead, and have the same latency issue.
I installed the ASIO-4-All driver to try and fix this problem, and have upgraded all the creative software to the latest version.
None of this lowers the latency.
Incidentally, When I run the Creative Audio Console, although the Wave Device shows as being the SB Audigy 2, the MIDI device shows as "Not Available".
Is what I am trying to do unachievable?

Now onto our technical issues:
I used the Soundfont Bank Manager to save the entire selection of sound fonts to a file, then loaded this into sfz. Perhaps my delays are related to the fact that the file is large? I assume you can just copy one or two sounds into a file, rather than every single sound in the Audigy - if so, this might give me a smaller file and therefore lower latency.
I tried using the Asio4All driver again. It gives much higher latency than the nati've SB driver, so I'd like to stick with the SB driver for now.
How do I switch to 6 bit / 48 khz using the nati've SB driver? It's not clear where I'm supposed to set this.
I don't know how to read the sysinfo data. I've attached it to the end of this message - perhaps you can let me know if it appears to have a problem?
Sorry for the dumb question, but how do I tell if DMA transfer is in use? I've attached the DMA part of the sysinfo report.
Thanks for your help.

Sounds like a very interesting controller (and seems you can have even wireless connection now (w/ guite high price though)). Going to look it closer, if I just can find some shop, in this area, having it available.
You seem to have quite many devices/controllers sharing IRQ 6 and IRQ 8. It's not always a bad thing, but you may start getting those audible issues when using low latency settings because of it.
You can try to ease the situation by disabling some un-needed devices/controllers. This can be done from BIOS (more permanent way) and (temporary) from Device Manager (right mouse click the item and choose disable (/enable if needed later)).
I have bolded the ones you propably can disable, if not needing them.

Wireless NIC controller is one of those said to be causing disturbance in audio --> use the other NIC controller (Marvel Yukon), if it's possible.
Also, I read somewhere on these forums that you don't need the UAA driver when onboard audio is turned off. If you haven't disabled the onboard audio, do it -> SB cards are not (normally) working 00% correctly if onboard is enabled.
If you have more USB controllers listed using other IRQ's then disabling those using IRQ 6 is possible (you just need to check out which ones are disabled so you get your USB device(s) connected).
Could it be possible to see the whole IRQ list?
DMA settings can be cheked/set on Device Manager --> select the controller (like Primary IDE under IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers) -> properties -> advanced settings -tab. I'm not sure if DMA (Direct Memory Access) can be set for PCMCIA (CardBus) controller.
ASIO driver options named Creative ASIO and SB Audigy 2 Zs ASIO [xxxx] are 6-bit/48 kHz mode drivers and SB Audigy 2 Zs ASIO 24/96 [xxxx] is as it says on its name. You select the driver on software (for example, menu option ASIO -> Driver "lists available"/"lets you choose" drivers on TobyBear MiniHost).

  • Undocumented problem solved with 16-bit pcmcia and irq error

I am having the exact same problem as described in the following post:
"Undocumented problem solved with 16-bit pcmcia and irq error."
"I'm using a DAQ Card (AI-16E-4), which didn't work properly in MAX. MAX complained that the card didn't respond to an interrupt request.
I've had this issue for a while, but dropped it, since NI support told me nothing could be done about it. Meanwhile, a seemingly unrelated problem with a wireless pcmcia network card arose. Cisco had no clue what was wrong with their card either, but I found Microsoft Knowledge Base Article Q327947. It seems that Win2k (they claim SP3 and up) disables ISA to PCI routing, which is what causes this problem.
    To fix it, open regedit
    and navigate to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\Pcmcia\Parameters"
edit or create the DWORD value "DisableIsaToPciRouting" and set the value data to 0.
See Microsoft's article for further details: http://support.microsoft.com/default. aspx?scid=kb;en-us;327947"
The difference is that I am using WinXP and the Regedit fix does not solve the problem. Does anybody know how he was able to continue to use the card before he solved the problem? The card works fine in MAX, but errors out in LabVIEW.

    Hey Willy,
Here some additional suggestions that have corrected some PCMCIA difficulties in the past besides the registry edit you suggested.
    1. General Troubleshooting to Verify Correct Hardware and Software Installation
Uninstall the PC Card hardware through Device Manager
Remove the PC Card from the laptop
    Uninstall the NI-DAQ software
Follow the normal installation instructions (the most important step to remember for Plug-n-Play Operating Systems is to install the software first)
Try the latest service packs for Win 2000 or Win XP
Try the PC Card in a different laptop
Try a different slot in the laptop. On certain laptops PC Cards have been successfully installed in the top PCMCIA slot instead of the bottom.
    2. Additional Troubleshootin
g for PC Cards that Return IRQ Conflicts
    For E-Series DAQCards:
Update to NI-DAQ 6.9.3 first and then update NI-PAL to version 1.6.1 (included exe file).
Download the attached NI-PAL (ni-cdu1610.exe), and run the installer. When receiving the error "The device is not responding to the first IRQ Level" in Measurement and Automation Explorer, try this method of upgrading NI-PAL
    3. Additional Troubleshooting Steps
Try disabling the 3COM adapter, and any other extraneous (for now) devices like any built in serial and parallel ports. The best way to do this is probably to disable them in the BIOS. If the PCMCIA card works properly then try to reconfigure disabled devices one at a time.
Make sure the latest BIOS is installed.
Check for any unusual PCMCIA drivers or other software that might interfere with the PCMCIA driver.
    I hope this helps.

  • Distorted / choppy recorded sound with Audigy 2 ZS and Vista 64-bit

Hi, I wonder if anybody has any idea of why this issue is happening. First let me give you my PC specs:
    CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 940 @ 3.0 GHz
    Mobo: Gigabyte GA-M57SLI-S4 rev. 2.0
    Graphics: 2 x BFG GeForce 8800 GT 52MB
    RAM: 4 x GB G.Skill PC6400 @ 800 MHz
Sound: Creative SB Audigy 2 ZS
TV Tuner:? Hauppauge WinTV PVC PCI II (26xxx)
OS: Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit SP
?So here's the deal. I have no problems whatsoever with audio playback with this sound card. The issue I am having is while recording sound with it. When I record my voice via a Microphone with the Windows Sound Recorder and then play it back, my voice sounds very choppy. It sounds as if I was talking in front of a fan. The same happens with any program I try to use. If I use Audacity to record sound, the playback is also distorted / choppy. The main problem is with Skype, as I cannot use it to talk to people because they cannot understand what I'm saying because of the issue. Does anybody has any ideas why this happens? My PC is a dual boot PC with Vista 64-bit and XP 32-bit, and this issue only happens with Vista. Sound recorded plays back fine under Windows XP.
I am using the latest drivers available for this card from the Creative site.
    I'd appreciate your help,
    Daniel

A little bit off topic here, but 64bit does not mean more performance at all lol.
Sure, but there are in some cases drastic performence diferences. Under a fresh installed Vista X64 i have less CPU usage, as under 32 bit. But of course X64 uses more RAM (some tasks are double 32 and 64 bit). But the main reason I have more performence is, that the games I often play, get almost a boost. Dont ask me why, but under 64 bit EAW and FOC have the same FPS as under 32 bit. But under X64 I use a bit more Details and a higher resolution. (both are 32 bit games, so its a bit funy )?______________________?Sure there are other ways to install the drivers. But if some Setup dosent work, the first thing I try is to get it via Divice Management. And as this worked for me, I dont waste time to try other methods (Had bad experience, you can break the driver faster than install it *G*)?______________________?Some Questions I have left (after a few hours undr X64 with Creative Drivers):?Could it be, that the driver causes sometimes havy CPU usage?Could it also be, that the driver causes some lags, after you copy a file (the end sound, copy is finihed, but takes more time for "final finish", than without the drivers) - I know that Vista has some problems, on some PCs with copy, and that MS has an inoficial Patch (but dosent help for my PC so far)

    Thanks in advance.

I got the fix for you twellons. Just go in the audio control panel and mute the midi/synth in the panel and you will have the fix. My system specs are close toy yours amd 2800xp, nforce 2 a7n8x dlx ver .04 and a original audigy card. Now creative has to address this issue in new drivers. Also download the demo of contract jack and when you load the game and the game menus comes up, scroll through the options in that menu like new game, load game quickly and you will here that popping noise in only the left speaker. and when you do that fix that i mentioned above, no more popping . So try that out and please get back to me and tell me if it worked or not. That issue was tough to figure out.

  • No audio in Windows 7 64bit with Audigy 4 Pro and Inspire 7.1 speakers

Hi, this is my first post in this forum. This issue is killing me?
    Configuration:

    DDR3 600Mhz PC2800 6GB Corsair XMS3 Classic CL9 Skt366
    Samsung TB HD03SJ 7200rpm 32MB Spinpoint F3
    Mobo ASUS 366 P6T SE
New Windows 7 installation, no upgrade, so everything?s new. Realtek HD integrated audio chipset works fine, so the speakers are ok. Obviously I want my 2005 Audigy 4 back, especially for its external box.
I can't get any audio out of my speakers, zero, nothing, nada. Windows 7 recognizes it and if I run the control panel?s tests the equalizer shows that music is playing but still I won?t ear a single note.
    I tried everything:
-I checked Windows mixer, the output was correct and no ?mute? was selected, no SPDIF, no optical etc etc
    -I deactivated the Realtek
-I tried to put the Audigy in different PCI slots?
-I tried the latest Creative drivers?
    -I tried unofficial drivers?
    What should I do now?
    Maybe I could try:
-Updating the mobo bios. I don?t really want to do it unless it'ss absolutely necessary. My mobo is quite new anyway and from its bios updates I can't see nothing related to pci slots or audio issues.
-Playing around with the drivers: maybe I?m wrong, but I?suspect that, while installing creative drivers, every time I restart the system Windows 7 re-check the audio card and puts its Creative Audigy WDM? driver. I?m not too sure about this: from Windows device manager it seems that the drivers are updated and running.
    Any ideas?

    JProblem solved.
Apparently there was a clash between Windows 7 driver (?) and the one from Creative.
I had to use a specific software in order?to delete creative drivers and software.
After the erase of every piece of junk I could install creative official drivers.
Audio playback is fine, still I have s?to test recording...

Still no reply? I d like to make it straight. My SB Audigy 2 ZS is connected through analog to creative 5. speaker system. The speakers are calibrated so I can hear surround music in media players or in All games which supports EAX. (e.g. Doom3, Half-Life 2). The only problem I have with good-old Diablo 2. The game supports Dolby Surround ( Pro-logic?) and EAX2. I enabled 3D sound and environmental Effects but I hear sound only from front speakers (L+F, center, subw). The rear speakers are quiet. Do you have any expirience with this issue? Do I need an external decoder through SPDIF for DD surround? The cinematics are encoded in dolby surround so Audigy might not to recognize it's Too many questions...
The Blizzard support is not replying..

  • Issues with Samsung 840 pro and MacbookPro mid 2012.

I got a Samsung 840 pro 256GB SSD a few months ago. I installed it into my MacbookPro mid 2012 and it worked with no issues for two months. One day the drive pretty much crashed on me while I was using it. I tried connected the drive with a SATA to Thunderbolt adapter and the SSD worked with no issues. This led me to think the issue was with my mac, so I reinstalled the HDD I was previously using. I experianced no issues with this drive installed. Simply put, the SSD does not work if ONLY if it is connected to the internal SATA connection. I wound up RMAing the drive back to Samsung and recieved a new one today.
I installed the drive and attempted to install OS X without success. After more troubleshooting I determined that, the brand new drive is experiancing the same issue: it does not work ONLY if it is conneced to the internal SATA connection. I spend an hour on the phone with Samsung, they have not heard of this problem happening. I called an independanta Mac repair shop and they told me it was the SATA cable (this is incorrect because other HDD's work). I went to the Apple store but they don't care about you unless you're willing to shell out big bucks or you have AppleCare.
    Somebody help!

One possibility is that the model you have is intended for use with a SATA III 6.0 Gb/s interface whereas your computer only supports up to 3.0 Gb/s. If the new SSD is not downward compatible then it will not work properly.

    hi!
i use skype to communicate with my friends. in sound mixer i chose 'microphone' for recording. this works like a charm.
    BUT:
as soon as i start a game (i.e. World of Warcraft), the recording device is automatically changed to 'what you hear'. when i switch task to system mixer, i can change back to 'microphone', but as soon as i go back to the game, it instantly changes back to 'what you hear'. this issue occurs not only with this game, but with others as well.
you can imagine what my friends must hear when i play the game (they hear every soundeffect, music and even themselves).

Muted sound from all sources with software and hardware volume controls max'ed.
Unable to calibrate speakers at setup--- sound comes out of wrong speaker, or more than one at a time (center and a rear speaker at same time). Connections checked and rechecked and are all correct.
Distorted, disproportionately loud sound out of center speaker, even when turned down.
Loud popping and clicking during games, video. Latest driver updates were installed.
Going to uninstall and then reinstall drivers, but this is too much aggravation. If that doesn't work I'm sending the card and speakers back and going back to using SB Li've! and 2. Cambridge Soundworks Microworks.

Beacause i bought this Audigy 2 ZS and installed on new windows instalation. I didn't conect anithing but analog speakers. On 2ms there are cracles... What can i do to resolve the problem?
Crackling can be caused by different sources (CPU performance, IRQ/resource shares, etc.) but, you can ease the situation by using 4 or 5 ms latency setting. Even you say you're musician, you can't tell the difference between 2 ms and 5 ms (also, this is not the true 'real world' latency at all you're having there).
    Also, have you
    - checked if your laptop is OK for realtime audio? - http://www.thesycon.de/deu/latency_check.shtml
    - already made those 'normal' DAW tweaks - http://www.musicxp.net/
Are you playing on live performances or just for fun/entering MIDI data? If you read from some of those software forums (cakewalk, cubase, etc.) you'll notice, it's possible to use much higher latency settings than 2 ms w/o being called non professional musician. Also, when you enter MIDI data into recording software, it's all the same which latency settings you're using .. data goes always into same position, only soft synth outputs out of time (it's not valuable to record the soft synth output directly even some software allows it).
Hmm... which internal card are you talking 'bout ... onboard audio or some decent pro quality soundcard? Could you name that one (I know most of those and know their capabilities in this type of matter) and, are you using the internal card w/ the same PC/laptop you're using Audigy with and, which driver mode? If it's not in the same PC/laptop then, don't make direct comparison between those two (not equal performance; rather 'compare' w/ those results behind two links given below)). BTW, which 'resolution' are you using (16/24 -bit, 44-1, 48 or 96 kHz)? IIRC, those NI instruments you mentioned, are known CPU huggers so maybe that is part of your latency "issue".
Some generic reading on latency matter:
MIDI keyboard internal response to keystroke -- this is not instantaneous but on a good keyboard should be under 1 msec or so
    MIDI transport latency
    - If you're using MIDI cables, this is 1 msec per note in the chord, before the last note in the chord sounds. In other words, for a 6-note chord, the first note is delayed by 1 msec, the second by 2, etc., to the 6th note that is delayed by 6 msec.
    - If you're using MIDI over a high-speed technology like USB, Firewire, or mLAN, there is still transmission latency but the per-note effect is far, far lower -- probably not measurable.

  • Audigy 2NX USB and PCMCIA 2ZS compatibil

Currently I use an Audigy 2NX USB with my laptop. I will install the Audigy PCMCIA notebook card on the same laptop. With the USB 2NX, when it is powered off, the laptop automatically configures itself to use the internal (motherboard) sound card.
() My understand is that with the 2ZS PCMCIA card, you need to physically remove the card (e.g. "Safely Remove Hardware") to revert to the internal sound-card speakers. Is that correct?
    (2) PCMCIA 2ZS comes with the Smart Recorder application. Can that application be also be used with the USB 2NX card enabled (and with the PCMCIA card removed) ?

I have an Audigy 2 NX myself, and I found it works best off of a direct root usb port (not off a hub). The problem is that on most computers 2 USB ports share hub. Which is why you are having that comflict.
My conflict doesn't happen there, it was on the mouse at first, now it's on an external IDE Adapter i'm using.
All I do is unplug the IDE adaptor when it stops working, waiting a few seconds, then plugging it back in.
So what I suggest is to do like I did, and switch what ports things are plugged into until it's something that can plug & unplug with no real issues.
Why this happens, in opinion, is that there just isn't enough power getting to all the usb ports when there's alot of stuff plugged into them. My limit seems to be 7 items, even though most of them are lower power stuff, mouse, joysticks. I do have a 3.5" hd in a case, which is self powered, and the ide adaptor which is self powered, and the audigy 2 nx, which is, as you know, self powered. I can plug another item in, but anymore after that will knock my ide adaptor. and i still have usb ports i'm not even using. oh, the joysticks are on a hub which is where I usually plug another item in, either my mp3 player or thumbdri've.
I think it most likely an electric problem, and that it only affects people with faulty usb componets or something. I haven't heard of it being widespread or specific chipset/usb controller problem. Can't think of anything else it could be, but i'm not an electrition.
Sorry i could be of much help, but maybe you can at least make it less of a bother to deal with.
    good luck

     b noir,
I can get itunes to start if I disable Bonjour or if I "repair" it first. Sometimes I can repair Bonjour though add/remove programs, sometimes it will only "repair" using WinRar. Sometimes I have to "repair" Bonjour 2 or 3 times to get iTunes to start.
I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling at least a dozen times. I have tried redownloading iTunes at least 5 times and from different links. This leads me to believe that the dnssd.dll file is not itself corrupt, but this newest version is causing a conflict with XP somewhere somehow.
Team, iTunes 10.2.2.12 has just been released. I installed it and checked, and BonJour's been updated to version 2.0.5.0, and there's a new 2.0.5.0 version of dnssd.dll on my system. So I reckon it's worth a try updating to that to see if it's of any help with your trouble.
