Latest (10-15-2010) Windows XP Updates Broke Access Connections
System: T60p with XP Pro SP3 updated with the latest patches from MSFT and Lenovo.
Couple of days ago Microsoft pushed a big pack of updates (According to Add/Remove Programs:
2345043, 2344875, 2362765, 2360131, 2279986, 2360937, 2387149, 971513, 979687, 2345886, 981957, 982132, 2378111, 2296011 but I think there were more) which broke Access Connections.
I get "Application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000005)" - displayed TWICE for each attempted launch of ACWLIcon.exe.
Running Access Connections Application from the start menu also fails.
I updated to the latest available version 5.07.0002.0028 but the problem remains.
Can you investigate and release a patch? In the meanwhile, do you think I should uninstall it?

Updated to Access Connections 5.02 and location profiles disappeared
After updating Access Connections from 4.52 to 5.02 all the wireless location profiles are gone, including WEP keys, etc. The old version of AC worked fine on my X61S.
1) How can one upgrade to AC 5 without losing these?
2) I have complete system backups. In what file or registry entry can I find the saved location profiles from 4.52?Same thing happened to me. Most frustrating...
I was able to find a listing of the now-missing profiles in "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Lenovo\Access Connections\Locations". Using regedit, I removed the following DWORD key, "m_bHideInList", from each entry and all of my location profiles now appear in Access Connections again as they were before. Looks like there also are a variety of other (rather straightforward) configuration parameters in the registry key(s) listed above, so hopefully something in there is the magic bullet.

Windows 7 Thinkvantage Access Connections 5.41 does not stick to printer default
hi
i have installed windows 7 on 3 lenovo laptops (x60s, x61, t500) and installed AC 5.41 but and have configured them with 5 profiles each with their own default printer preferences but for some reason when i toggle from 1 profile to another the default printer setting does not change accordingly
this is really annoying as i have managed to print documents to the wrong printer a couple of times and it seems to be accross the board on all my windows 7 installations
is this happening to anyone else?

i have now deployed 5 thinkpads (x200 with lenovo windows 7 installation disk) and 4 X61 and T500's with my own windows build and downloaded all the thinkvantage software using system update (had to manually upgrade to 5.42 as system update did not pick up on the updates)
the printer default sometimes swaps over but often it just defaults to the original ms windows xps writer and not the the one i had specified.
very frustrating, luckily a lot of my users do not switch locations very often and only print from 1 location but i have some laptop roll outs planned for users who do use this printer default settings a lot and i will get some stick for this. -
Latest versions of Power Manager and Access Connections got borked.
I have a T60p running a fully patched XP SP2, model 2007CS3, and I work for IBM. I'm posting this because our internal IT support team has no clue how to fix this.
I updated Power Manager to 1.52 when it had initially released, and since then it always fails with an error in pwmuictl.dll, however the taskbar indicator is working properly. So I have to rely on Windows' built in power management only.
Couple of days back I updated the ethernet drivers to 9.12.41.1001 as in the latest package listed on the site.
After that Access Connections 5.2 stopped working- the AcSvc service would fail on startup and subsequent restarts.
I rolled back the ethernet driver to the previous version- uninstalled the device and reinstalled specifying the older drivers- to no avail.
After a lot of struggle I downgraded it to version 4.23 that is used internally- and now my LEAP based wifi does not work. If I create a new connection profile- Access Connections craps out after filling in wifi security parameters. I reset my LEAP password and tried again- it still does not connect.
So effectively, updating the ethernet drivers turned out to be a big mistake. I hope someone can help, if you need additional information/screenshots let me know.Hello Martin,
you have AC 5.02 instead 4.52 installed, like your screenshot shows.
Some user have been experienced problems with this version and the version of new Powermanager.
So if your system runs satisfactionally then there is no need to update.
I would roll back and see if your program became operationally again.

Yesterday (23rd March) my computer appeared to perform an auto update of windows vista and since then every time time use firefox it crashes shortly after entering a web portal (after about 1-5 seconds). It even crashes on the BBC news page which I always use to check stability. I have been using Firefox for years and it has just started doing this. However, I examined the programme files and actaully cannot see a windows vista update for yesterday, but I can see that there was a Firefox update, so now I'm a bit confused. Looking at the program files in more details it appears that there was a very major update of Firefox taking place including lots of file extensions. You should also know that your password recovery process doesn't work. I never got the email that is supposed to help me recover a lost password. I am really disappointed with Firefox doing this. It's costing me time and money. Can you help before I give up and go back to using Windows explorer (ugh!). I have thought of simply removing Firefox and starting again with a new download but that might not solve the probelm and I will lose my bookmarks.
I have an update to my message posted yesterday regarding Firefox crash after vista update. Today it got worse when Firefox wouldn't open at all and Windows explorer also stopped working. Curiously, email was still working, and when I checked another (little used) account on the same PC, I got a perfect connection with Firefox and Explorer. I had to conclude that the latest updates of Vista have interacted with some application only found in my main account on the PC. I tried opening Firefox in its safe mode and I tried opening explorer without Plug ins, but neither worked. Finally I decided the only answer was to do a system restore and wind back the windows software to where it was before the problem. I now have Firefox and explorer restored to working order, but I still don't understand why, because I got a message saying the system restore hasn't worked. Full Comprehension of the cause is beyond my capability, but through trial and error as described above I seem to have fixed it. The suspect vista updates are KB2505189 , and KB2524375.

Windows 8 has been running very well after installing it with bootcamp and its latest drivers.
I just have never updated Windows 8 itself, (windows has never checked for updates), and just has been
using it bare. Do you update windows 8 to the latest updates with windows 8, and have any problems
with the updates? Just curious before I start updating it for once.You have to update Windows to the latest version with Windows Update and keep it updated, because this is a matter of security. Microsoft provides a lot of security updates and you have to install them even if you have got an antivirus. Then you can find other updates, and if you want to install Windows 8.1, just install all updates with Windows Update, and then go to the Windows Store and download Windows 8.1.
Apple says that Windows 8.1 is not supported by Boot Camp, but people say it works without any problem with the most recent drivers, so I do not find any risk after upgrading to Windows 8.1. -

Firefox will not open and crashes after my lastest Windows 7 update on April 21st, 2015
After I completed the latest Windows 7 Update I have not been able to access Firefox. Upon opening the program I am given "Firefox has stopped working" message as the image shows. Never had any issues with Firefox before. I have Uninstalled and Reinstalled the latest Firefox version with the same results.
Please guide me to fix this problem

I just downloaded the latest version of iTunes for Windows and now iTunes crashes everytime I launch it. I have tried re-downloading and selecting Repair with no luck. Any suggestions?

The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.
If you've already tried a complete uninstall and reinstall try opening iTunes in safe mode (hold down CTRL+SHIFT as you start iTunes) then going to Edit > Preferences > Store and turning off Show iTunes in the Cloud purchases. You may find iTunes will now start normally.

How do I get the latest download of itunes for windows 7
So I have windows 7 and I've got the notification for the latest up date for iTunes and I tried to download it several times but always said error. So I decided to uninstall it and install iTunes again but now when I'm trying to reinstall it, my computer says it already exist in my computer when I've uninstalled iTunes and deleted all files linking to it and yet it still says that iTunes exist. What should I do now I cant live with out my iTunes???????

Hard Drive Replacement - Windows 7 Updates - Intel Rapid Storage - Lightscribe error 4224
I recently needed to replace a damaged hard drive from overheating on a HP Pavilion dv4 notebook that comes with Windows 7 Home Premium. The whole notebook had to be taken apart so that the dust, which had created a thick sweater, literally, blocking the CPU cooling fans, could be cleaned.
But that was done, it's over with, just dreading the cleanup in the future. Installing a new hard drive was unexpectedly difficult... replacing the physical part had nothing to it but, Windows 7 Updates could not work and Windows 7 SP1 installation from the dvd drive or otherwise did not work. To make it work I installed Intel Rapid Storage Technology (AHCI) package. I used the System Recovery Discs to format and install to factory settings before all else, of course...
All was nice and dandy until I started using Lightscribe to label the recovery discs. Error 4224 - communication error with the drive... etc etc. Updated the drivers and software from HP, completed all Windows 7 updates, updated the Lightscribe System Software and Template Maker, updated BIOS and that was a good thing, kept installing and uninstalling preinstalled HP bundles and antivirus sofware for another few days of irritating work to no avail. Finally, the culprit was found in the Intel Rapid Storage Technology installation!
So, without Intel Rapid Storage Technology package there are no Windows 7 updates and the Windows Genuine error comes up, but with Intel Rapid Storage Technoly there's no Lightscribe functionality. I'm throwing my hands in the air after so much painstaking time spent with these issues. Is there any way around this bind? Is there a known fix to get the new hard drive to be recognized by Microsoft and have the Lightscribe functionality back?Sometimes issues can arise when a driver is downloaded directly from the manufacturer, because in some cases, there are minor tweaks made to the one made specifically for your computer.
Sometimes the developers (combination of HP software developers and the 3rd party maker's software developers) have to tweak the maker's original driver to work with all of the other components inside your particular computer. All of the dv4-2000s may have, for instance, a specific technology of hard drives and optical drives, but each different dv4-2XXX may have different brands of hard drives/optical drives.
Graphics drivers are that way. I always recommend getting the ATI driver, not from ATI's website, but directly from the HP Driver Page, because getting the version on ATI's website will cause some issues with the HP Framework (which is responsible for making the whole web of specific components all work together) on the computer. After that several things have to be uninstalled and the correct versions have to be installed just to undo what that one driver version did.
It gets a little complicated. Suffice it to say, always try to download it from the HP Driver Page for your model first. Then if that version or previous versions don't work, try downloading directly from the 3rd party maker's page. I hope that makes sense. Let me know if I need to clarify anything

Also, please check and see what BIOS version you're currently on. To do that, press the FN + ESC keys and look for 'F.##' and let me know what that is. I'll compare it to the latest version and link you to that one if necessary. -
Broadcom had a windows 7 update that will no longer pair with iphone?
there was a recent Aug 2013 Windows 7 update for broadcom bluetooth and now laptop it will no longer pair iphone5 or iphone4s or ipod. I tried system restore before the update but no luck. went to broadcom.com to get latest drivers but now it says it can't detect bluetooth device. it all worked up until the update. Any suggestions?
Forgot to say it can find the iphones but says the periphial device driver can not be installed
