Latest article in Oracle Magazine..

I know is slightly off-topic, but I have a question..
When do they normally post the articles online from Oracle Magazine? I received the latest version of the magazine and wanted to download Raj's last article, and it is NOT online yet!!!
Just wondering if anyone has an idea..

Hi Tony,
My issue just arrived today, so there must be a bit of variance :)
Any idea who will take over for Raj with Oracle Corp in regards to being the product manager for App Express?
I don't work for Oracle Corp. and I'm not privy to that sort of information, so I can't really comment with any authority. But, I do know a few of the team members and they are all very good / very bright people. Scott Spadafore is currently a PM for APEX, and I certainly don't think there is any danger of the product "falling off" or anything like that. I guess the team meetings might seem "a little less caffeinated" without Raj, though. (He has an abundance of energy and exuberance, at least when compared to me!)

  • From Forms Product Management - Forms/J2EE Article in Oracle Magazine

Oracle Magazine have published a great article explaining how Forms and J2EE are providing complementary technologies. Read how one of our customer has found a good balance in building their business applications.

    Forms Product Management

I wonder if it is really difficult for Oracle to make easy the switch from Oracle Forms to Jdeveloper... ADF is a pretty nice thing... but it's not so good as Forms are in RAD for databases!
The best project from Oracle I knew about making Forms developers build lightweight web applications was Cherokee Project... That was a pretty nice project that was abandoned in favour of the new ruler... JAVA and Jdev! With the goals of project Cherokee achieved any Oracle Form developer would build that kind of apps... but not with current JDEV 10G!
I really feel that I am a "pl/sql and forms" developer, and that java makes me write too much code for something i would use one code line in forms or sometimes don't need at all to code! CMiC developers think the same! It's really slower to develop for J2EE! I switch from VB and Delphi to Forms cause Forms is the only truth RAD for database applications! And as I said lately in another posts I feel "pression" to move to another place than forms... Pression is several ways, either the new pricetag for AS EE or AS Forms only, either technological pression!
So as explained in "A Forms Break" article (http://www.oracle.com/technology/oramag/oracle/05-jan/o15form.html) the pression is there... They had 20 Forms developers, and now they just have 10, and have 10 Jdev developers! 6 here converted from forms to J2EE... and the others? That's one kind of pression that's made and that's real! They have to move from Forms to J2EE, cause if they don't... they'll get fired one day!
The best of the best "App Server" i know is Oracle AS... but it's also the most expensive one for people that develop database applications. When i create an application in Delphi my customers don't have to pay €20000 for licensing any app server... so it's really too much for small and middle size company's.
This article is useful to see and understand the SOD of Oracle in a global strategy and not from one perspective only... like Forms SOD perspective. I think Oracle Forms will end as a core product between 2008 and 2010. Will Oracle melt with success Oracle Forms Developers in Jdev with no pain? I believe that no more than 50% oracle developers will do it... Others will go to other technologies... most of them opensource like XUL or GnuE (Forms,Reports).
So, that's my point of view... and of course it's not the point of view of all Forms developers.

  • Single-step deployment article from July/August Oracle Magazine Question

    Hi,
As I worked through the article "Single-Step Deployment" on Oracle magazine July/August Issue,
I ran into a problem on substep 9 of Step 3 to
change the option of P2_MANAGER_ID with LOV.
    The error I got is
LOV query is invalid, a display and a return value are needed, the column names need to be different. If your query contains an in-line query, the first FROM clause in the SQL statement must not belong to the in-line query.
    Did anyone encounter same problem?
Any suggestion to deal with this error?
    Thanks for any advice.
    YY

    Hi,
Have you given your column names aliases?
    Cheers,

  • Flashback in oracle magazine

I have not used Oracle as yet. We are still on the mainframe. But I was looking at ORACLE magazine article November/December issue and page 62. When doing flashback you have to shutdown oracle and then startup mount to do flashback.
    A question?
    1. In mainframe world, we do not have to bring down CICS to do restore on a certain file - mayebe just close it. All people can still use CICS except that file.
    2. Oracle do you have to take down the whole database just to do flashback and stop everybody from doing their job?
    Thanks

  • Apex 3.1 in Oracle Magazine

    Hi all --
I was reading the March/April edition of Oracle Magazine and ran across a blurb stating version 3.1 is available and shipping. Is this correct?
    Thanks for the information!
    Leigh

    Leigh,
No this is not correct. 3.1 is still in BETA testing. You should however be able to run through the instructions in the article using the BETA evaluation instance. Just need to request an account, here:
    http://apex.oracle.com/pls/otn/f?p=eval31
You can also of course also participate in the evaluation process, the more the merrier!

  • Have my latest article display instead of just the links to articles?

    Hi,
I have received some great advice here on my general structure and am pleased that it's all OK now. One thing I have been trying to figure out though is whenever I create a new article, I would like it to show the latest article in the section that the user clicked on (left hand navigation panel, Windows, PC Security, Photography etc) instead of me just having my links to the article. I see on a lot of sites that they have the first part of an article with a 'Read More' at the bottom. That's really the kind of look I'd like to achieve if possible (say have 5 or 6 parts of an article showing with a 'Read More') with page numbers at the bottom, so they can view older articles.
At the moment my setup is like this, where the user will click on say 'Window' on the left and then look through the links to find something of interest. I think this isn't a great way for people to navigate and I should try to make it easier for them. Hopefully that makes sense?
    Richard

  • Need to have more info about the latest patch on Oracle 10g Release 2

Please this is the follwing answer that was given to explain the purpose of patching the latest release of Oracle 10g release 2.
We are applying the patch to the 32bit environment to resolve memory errors.
This patch should be applied to the 64bit environments too as to maintain consistency in our database versions
Personaly I don't believe the response is accurate to patch the database.
Does someone can tell me where to find more information about the latest path of Oracle 10g release 2?
    Thanks a lot

You can find more information about a patchset by going over the readme document associated with the patch. As such, it is not exactly clear what kind of information you are looking for.
    Login into Metalink=>Patches&Updates=>Simple Search=>
    Product or Family=> RDBMS
    Select your OS
if will your a link to the readme file...
    Hope this helps
    Thanks

ADDM is just a sophisticated software module.
It does not use any hard-to-understand, magical and mathematical tricks but sticks to collected information(AWR) and some proven best practices.
So, i think it's no harm for you to consult ADDM report.
Every best practice has weakness, it can't deal every aspect of your DBMS things.
But, it's good start point and does not make stupid mistakes unlike human beings always do.
Another thing to note is that ADDM is a very large module and connected with AWR, Tuning Avisors, wait events, Advisories, blah blah blah~
You're not using ADDM correctly if you have no good concepts and experiences on these.

  • Latest version of Oracle ADF Faces?

What is the latest version of Oracle ADF faces? Is there a single place where you can always download the latest and greatest?
I have the API and Impl libraries (and the adfshared too) from JDeveloper. They are part of Early Access 19 I believe. But what version of ADF is used in this demo (link below) that is included with the adffaces-skin.war file? Would EA19 be more recent and work with it?
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/jdev/101/howtos/adfskins/index.html

Oh, and I will mention, in the version that comes with the skins demo, the manifest file says
    Implementation-Version: 10_1_3_0_4
In the version that comes with JDeveloper, the manifest file says
    Implementation-Version: ea19
    Which one is later?

  • Latest version of OracleAS Portal

    Hi
I would like to know what patches and sequence needed to update and have the latest version of OracleAS Portal.
Begining with Oracle Application Server 10gR2 (10.1.2.0.2).
    Tks

You will need two steps to upgrade to the latest version.
From 10.1.2.0.2, you need to upgrade to 10.1.4.0.0 (which is a major portal upgrade). And then apply a cumulative patchset 10.1.2.3 to go to Portal 10.1.4.2.
Please consult the following metalink note on latest portal upgrade routes.
Subject:      Master Note for OracleAS Portal Upgrade Issues

  • Latest version of Oracle database

Pl tell me the latest version of Oracle.

Then i let you explain to tens of thousands of Siebel
customers why Oracle uses Actuate :-)[snip]
You're more like competing with IBM , SAP and
Microsoft on these markets[ps:  I'm not 'Oracle'.  Don't even work for them.  So it ain't "You're" ... <g>]
You totally miss the point. My apology for being obtuse. Let's try this again, a bit more straight forward.
This is a database forum. Specifically an Oracle core tech database forum.
It is not a BI forum. It is not an Actuate forum.
    It is a database forum.
Maybe it's just me, but when a person asks "what is the Latest version of Oracle database", I would expect an answer related to the database version. Not an Oracle competitor or third party product.
Seems to me people interested in Actuate would normally go to places where Actuate users participate. And people who want to troll or discuss the virtues of Actuate would go to an appropriate BI forum elsewhere in the Oracle Forums.
Again, apologies for not being clear in the original response.
