Latest Black Macbook 2.16ghz...black finish upgraded?

I was in Comp USA here in NYC last weekend, looking at the latest Macbook. Unlike the MBs I'd seen previously at Apple stores, this one was relatively free of fingerprints and oil spots, most noticeably on the trackpad. It looked almost brand new.
I asked the sales person how long the computer had been on display and he said it was put out a few days after the upgrade was announced, or around 2 weeks. He said there was tons of traffic in the store and that people were constantly using the black MB.
This makes me wonder if Apple hasn't quietly upgraded the finish to something less fingerprint prone. Any 2.16ghz owners out there willing to confirm or dispell this theory?
thx,
-rkny

A reasonable guess, but even as I used it, it didn't show much in the way of fingerprints or oil spots. Upon setting up my friend's black MB last year, it was covered in prints/splotches minutes after opening the box.
As far as modding the case, it could be something as subtle as tweaking the existing formula for the coating, or adding a polymer to the mix.
Or maybe I just had extra clean hands that day. A fella can dream. The Blackbook fingerprint factor is a real turnoff.

  • Black MacBook hard drive and RAM upgrade

I am looking to upgrade my black MacBook- 2.2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo.
I would like to increase the RAM - (currently have 1 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM) and would like to put in a new hard drive -( currently have 150 GB) I am wondering what hardware to get.
I think I would like to increase the RAM to 4GB and the HD to 500 GB. anyone have strong opinions on increased memory and/or hard drive? There seems to be enough info out there on the actual upgrade process, but am not sure what to actually buy for this upgrade.

  • MacBook 2.16Ghz Black and Final Cut Studio 2

    Hello,
    Is the black MacBook with:
    2.16GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    2GB memory
    200GB hard drive1
    Double-layer SuperDrive
Capable of running Final Cut Studio 2? Obviously I would probably need more hard drive space to edit a proper video so I'm thinking of buying a firewire hard drive as well but for now I would be editing videos that would be no longer then 30 minutes and recorded with a SD camcorder, not High Definition video.
Final Cut Studio 2 says it requires:
An AGP or PCI Express Quartz Extreme graphics card (Final Cut Studio is not compatible with integrated Intel graphics processors)
    and
A display with 1024-by-768 resolution or higher
I couldn't see anything on the online store (mac) to tell me if this macbook has either of those. I assume it'll have 1024x768 but I know nothing about graphics cards.
If anyone can let me know about this I would GREATLY appreciate it.

    No.the MacBook's integrated GPU can't handle FCS 2.
Although it easily handles Final Cut Express.

To see which model you have go to the Apple in the upper left corner and select About This Mac, then click on More Info. When System Profiler comes up check the Model Identifier.
    The model 2,1 (Late 2006 & Mid 2007) can use 3gb of 667mhz PC2-5300 RAM
    The model 3,1 (Late 2007) can use 6gb of 667mhz PC2-5300 RAM
You can put two 2gb RAM sticks in your model 2,1 but it can only use 3,3gb. This is a hardware limitation and cannot be changed.

  • Refurbished MacBook 2.16GHz Intel Core 2 Duo - Black (Nov 27)

I just bought on the 27th of November 2007 a Refurbished Black MacBook 2.16GHz Intel Core 2 Duo. I was just wondering if it is a Late 2007 MacBook, since it's a refurbished product, and if it has Santa Rosa.
Also, I've bought from ebay 4GB of ram for it (2X2GB). Will it be able to recognize all 4GB? the new (not refurbished) MacBooks available in the Apple store at the moment support up to 4GB.
    So what I'm asking is:
Is my Refurbished Macbook the latest model that is out?

Isn't that the sort of question you should ask before you buy something?

  • White vs black macbooks (question about the material)

Hi, I'm trying to buy my first mac and I am really excited. But I'm not sure if I should get the black or the white macbook (same specs). Any advice is appreciated.
I've heard a lot about how the new Black Macbooks have a different finish than the white ones - matte compared to the glossy finish. In layman's terms, basically all I have learnt is that the black ones have a lot of stains on them. But I would think that the white ones get dirty pretty fast. Also I've read some reviews where some folks have said that the black has a different keyboard ... I tried both of them out at an Apple store and didn't notice much of a different.
Is there really that much of a difference between the two colors? If there isn't, I'd like to get the Black one just cuz it won't get dirty that quickly.
Any thoughts? Thanks for your time

I just went through the same dilemna. I had to decide whether paying $200 more for 40GB more of hard drive space and the black color. (The 40 GB is only worth $75 so you are paying $125 for the black color.) I ended up choosing the black. Sure, it smudges easily, however, that is really easy to clean. As for the scratches, once they are in the white ones, they are pretty much there for good. The black ones, you have a great chance of buffing them out if it is just a surface scratch.
I didn't need the 40GB of space, however, the black looks really cool, classy and professional and is easier to keep clean. Plus it accentuates the glowing apple far better than the white one. It really sounds like you want the black, so GO FOR IT!

  • Black MacBook - suggestion for Apple.

Apple takes style quite seriously, right? Then why does my black MacBook come with a white power cord?
Suggestion: pack the black MacBook with a black power cord.
    -Ron.

I rather enjoy a little bit of contrast. I like black. I drive it around 24x7 (a black motorized wheelchair, that is). I personally think it's better for me to have a black chair because it allows me to stand out.
But I don't want another black computer (or a white one, for that matter). Am I racist? No, it's just getting BORING. Black laptops, white desktops...or really badly-designed cases, period. I'm looking more at the silver MacBook Pro, but let me tell you, color wasn't a consideration.
I want power and performance, really. The MacBook looks good, but the shared graphics just kill the whole deal for me. The 5+ percent tax on memory is too much to pay for this performance-minded user.
As to color, I'd much rather see the ability of customers to pick the color they want, vis a vis iPod mini, or the original i-computers.
Those who choose Apple want to stand on a kind of holy ground. Some just want to set themselves apart from others. But with all computers looking the same on the inside now, what's left?

  • Latest OS X on "Black" MacBook.

Hi, I have a "black" Macbook running 10.6.8.  I wonder if it is possible to upgrade it to the latest OS X and runs Aperture 3.4.5 or Lightroom 5.  Thanks.  If this has been asked before please kindly direct me to the previous discussion.

10.7 Lion is still available from Apple. You will have to call Apple Customer Care 1-800-692-7753 or 1-800-676-2775. to purchase it. Then within 3 days you will get an email with a code which you can use to download Lion from the App Store.  The price is $19.99.
Lion will require at least 2gb of RAM but really needs 4gb to run smoothly.
As for third party programs see this list for compatibility with 10.7 http://roaringapps.com/apps:table
Also Lion doesn't run any Power PC programs. To see if you have any Power PC programs go to the Apple in the upper left corner and select About This Mac, then click on More Info. When System Profiler comes up select Applications under Software. Then look under Kind to see if any of your applications are listed as Power PC. Universal and Intel will run under Lion.
Before Mac switched to Intel processors in 2006 they used Power PC processors from 1994 to 2005. Power PC 601 through 604, G3, G4 and G5. Applications written for the Power PC processors need the application called Rosetta to run on Intel processors. This was part of the Operating System in 10.4 and 10.5 but was an optional install in 10.6. With 10.7 Lion Apple dropped all support for Power PC applications.

  • Upgrading Black MacBook from 1st to 3rd gen?

    Hi guys!
I need some advice from you!
I've Got a Black MacBook (1st generation, CoreDuo 2 Ghz, HD 80 Gig, RAM 1.256 Gig), in 2 weeks the 1 year warranty will expire...
    a) should I buy the Apple Care Protection Plan to extend the warranty for 2 other years (that means 319 Eur, a little high price here in Italy)?
    b) should I trade my 1st gen Mac for the latest one (3rd gen, Black, CoreDuo2, HD 160 Gig, RAM 1 Gig, faster wi-fi and double layer DVD recorder): my Apple Store asks 460 Eur to make the deal...
    c) should I stay with my trusty 1st gen and not buy any warranty extension (maybe upgrading the HD to 160 Gig for about 120 Eur)? After all I never had any problem in this 1st year...
Any advice is appreciated: the temptation to make the jump to the new little jewel is very strong, but maybe it's better to wait for new models and upgraded OS X?
    Ciao!
    Sergio

Well, it's ultimately your choice what you do. You could...
    a. Purchase the Apple Care Protection extending your warranty another two years just in case something happens. I mean, that's all a warranty is, a little piece of mind for the just in case. You've done good so far (a whole year with NO issues), but there's always the unforseen issues.
    b. Trade up. The newer Macbooks are stocked with larger HDD, larger L2 cache (2mb vs 4mb), Superdrive capable of buring dual layer, and .16mhz faster than the previous models, and the new 802.11n wireless standard. Some people might say these improvements are worth the money, some don't. Again, totally up to you. If you like your MB, and have no issues, why rock the boat? But if you really want to rock the boat, dude - ROCK the boat! Go for the Macbook Pro. I would. But hey, that's just me.
    c. Buy a larger harddrive thus increasing your capacity. If you're gonna pop for a new HDD, get a HDD with fast RPM - something like 7200. I've even seen HDD with 10,000 RPMs! Not sure if they are compatible with the MB as I didn't research it in depth, but there's something to look at. Faster RPM HDD = faster access to the files stored on it.
So what does all this mean. Nothing. Because like I said earlier, it will ultimately be your own decision.
    Hope this helps.

Assume you haven't filled up your new hard drive, so it should have plenty of space. You didn't say what you're running when it lags, however, hard to connect new hard drive to causing processor lags. See this FAQ on OS X performance to see what can help.

  • Black Macbook 2.0 GHz Core Duo Ram upgrade question

Kay guys, I can't find the answer to this anywhere.
I have a Black Macbook Intel Core Duo 2.0GHz. It has 1.0 GB of RAM from the factory.
According to wikipedia, OWC, and other sources, this was never an option from the factory! Which has me very confused. So my question is, can I upgrade this Macbook to 4 GB of RAM, utilizing 3 GB, or is the max 2 GB?
And if you could provide supporting evidence that'd be great. I want the mystery solved.

  • Can I Upgrade my Black Macbook to Snow Leopard?

    Hey!
I have a black macbook that I got in early 2008. It has 2.4 GHz Intel core 2 Duo, 4GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM, and it is on version 10.6.8. I do not have Snow Leopard though, and I know this because I cannot download the upgrade to Lion and other things that require me to have Snow Leopard.
So my question is, can I purchase the Snow Leopard Upgrade in the apple store and upgrade my black macbook to Snow Leopard? Then will I be able to download the free upgrades to Lion and Mavericks and such? I want to be able to use my two macbooks to share the mouse and keyboard between the two using SynergyKM, but this black macbook does not have Snow Leopard. Please help! Thanks!!

    10.6.8 is Snow Leopard.
Lion and Mountain Lion Upgrades are not Free. Mavericks is.

  • Upgrading my black macbook? Worth it?

I plan on throwing a SSD and 4GB of RAM in it. It's got the 2.2 GHz Intel C2D, so that's a pretty peppy processor. My question is would throwing $250 into this laptop be a waste, or do you think this will be worth the $250?
I guess another way of putting it would be: $250 for an SSD based laptop w/ 4GB RAM and 2.2GHz Core 2 Duo or (sell the lappy for $500) and find a better computer for under $800?

Just a word of caution... since it is a Black MacBook... I would make sure it can use 4g of memory. Some of the earlier MacBooks were limited. If you put 4gb in them you would only be able to use a portion of that memory.
