Latest Firefox (23.0.1) won't install

Firefox crashed (not uncommon) so I went through the restart routine.
It decided to install the latest version, got as far as "Checking Compatibility of Add Ons" and sat with the 'scanning green bar' sliding happily grpm end to end.
After 6 hours I gave up, did a CTRL-Alt-Del and it said it wasn't responding when I tried to close it.
tried several times, all with the same result.
I Googled "Firefox won't install" and ended up deleting the Firefox folder in Program files (there go my add ons and everything else), manually downloaded, manually started the install...
Exactly the same result...!!!
Win XP, SP3, Fujitsu Siemens Esprimo 3000
Troubleshooting Information doesn't work as I'm having to use Chrome...

I'm getting very confused (but I'm in my 60s and am not a techie, so maybe it's to be expected...
I can't "Cancel the operation of checking the plugins" as the CANCEL button does nothing. The only way I can do that is with Windows Program Manager, where it tells me that it's "Not Responding" so I "End Task" and finally it shuts down.
If I then run the Profile Manager, absolutely nothing happens...
"If the Profile Manager window does not open, Firefox may have been running in the background, even though it was not visible. Close all instances of Firefox or restart the computer and then try again."
As far as I can see, at this point in the proceedings, Firefox isn't running - it's not showing anywhere and I have no idea how to find it if it is 'in the background'.
I'd really like to retain the Bookmarks and Passwords, and probably some other things I don't understand, if I can (it's an old age/memory problem - all the important birthdays were in ReminderFox for example), so I have created a backup copy of the profiles folder on a memory stick in hope...
Within Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\uxbwtgou.default, there are five extensions files - extensions.ini, extensions.log, extensions.rdf, extensions.sqlite and extensions.sqlite-journal...
Do I delete all of these?
Thanks

have downloaded new version of adobe flash player but it will not install. I get a box that says "only a single instance of this application can run" What does this mean/what do I do about it?
(I've removed the old flash player)
    I am using a HP desktop w/ Windows 7 64-bit.

You seem to have Shockwave Flash 11.1 r102 installed, according to the plugins scan done on the browser that used to post in this forum.

  • Firefox 7.0.1 won't install

I did have 7.0.1 installed when it first came out. About a week ago I noticed a plug-in that was working fine had a slight 'glitch' in it (roboform 7.5.3). .long story so I'll skip to the chase...Decided to roll back Windows Vista 24 hours to see if it might fix the Roboform issue. That's when things went south...Firefox would crash upon opening...something with system restore? I don't know...so had to download and install IE 9 just to get online. Now I have downloaded FF 3.6.23 and at least I have an old FF back but when I try to upgrade back to 7.0.1...no dice. Hope someone can help me!

As soon as I posted the message I realised the download had failed to complete. Sorry, I'm so daft but thank you very much for your help :-)

  • Firefox 3.6.13 won't install on my MacBook Air

When I attempt to install 3.6.13, I get a message that I lack the permissions for some of the elements.

I also have this problem and it just started in the last week or so. It seems to be dependent on my home network and the problem only exists with firefox. I have used chrome and IE8 with no issues. I can verify tomorrow that it only exists in my network but one thing I was able to test is that the problem exists even on my linux boot. I am totally dumbfounded with this problem and I can't find anything that will allow the gmail page to load. All other pages I have tried load fine, all be it a little slower than normal but they load. If anyone knows of a difference between firefox and all other browsers on how it goes through the router I would appreciate the info cause I don't know of any differences.

  • Videos on BeFun.be won't play-plugin required-which one? Tried to download microsoft media for Firefox plugin and it won't install(show up in plugin list)

On site BigFun.be video requires a plugin. Which plugin? I have tried to download Microsoft video player for Firefox 1.0.0.8 and it does not take or show up under plugins.

    Hello SuperMax52,
Thank you for contacting Mozilla Support. It looks like the videos on that page require a WMV player plug-in. Please take a look at the following article to install the correct plug-in to play this content.
[[Play Windows Media files in Firefox with the Windows Media plugin]]
Please let us know if this solves your issue.
    Cheers,

  • Firefox 17 or 18 won't install on windows 7

when I try to install mozzilla firefox 17 or 18 with window 7 everything goes great until I select 'RUN' then a 'RUN AS' window opens, if i select "CURRENT USER' the installation terminates, if I select 'FOLLOWING USER' & enter a user name & password it isn't recognised & installation is stalled

I'm having this same problem. It gives to option to run as Administrator or as the current user. I have the current user set as the admin. So I select 'current user' and nothing happens.

  • Have you fixed the compatibility with HP printers and Symantec yet for the latest Firefox? I am waiting before installing.

You told me to install the 3.7 version in April. It messed up both my printer and my Norton security. I downgraded successfully. I am waiting to hear that HP printers and Symantec are now compatible. You said this was their responsibility, but it is your responsibility to inform us when you have become compatible with the most common devices, security and other programs. How else would we find out except by bombing our computers by upgrading you?

It seems like Symantec has.Hope this helps-

  • Firefox stopped working and won't install after I uninstall and reinstall.

Firefox stopped working one day. It would not load anything. I followed the directions and completely uninstalled and then reinstalled Firefox. It goes through the process and then says Firefox will load momentarily. It never does. Also, what do you have against hiring people to answer questions in person?

It is possible that your security software (firewall, anti-virus) blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

  • Firefox Sync doesn't recognize my version of Firefox, won't install

Whenever I try to install Firefox Sync, it tells me "You are currently using Firefox 3.0.13," won't install, and suggests that I upgrade. However, I'm using Firefox 3.6.10, so I don't know how to resolve this. (Yes I tried downloading and installing the upgrade... this is still the result.) Any ideas?

Awesome suggestiont. Your solution worked perfectly and it was a breeze. Thanks!!

  • Why won't Firefox open now that i just installed latest security update on my Mac power book?

Firefox was working fine - then i installed latest security update for Mac OS10 which required restarting computer, now Firefox will not open

  • Update available for firefox 3.6.12 but won't install;says connection timed out

I've had firefox 3.6.12 for a couple of months. it says an upgrade is available, but won't install. says connection timed out. I tried it from IE 8 as well, same result. Took me a half our just to get to mozilla.com I installed IE 8 2 days ago, and since then, my monitor flashes the page when i'm in gmail. Also flash videos won't play worth a crap. I just installed K-lite Mega 6.6 to try to fix that.

I wonder if it's not some of the newer technologies like HTML 5 that the other browsers support. I have the same problem, and the sites load fine in Opera. I still have 3.6 (whatever's latest), and haven't upgraded to 4 yet because of all the extensions I use. I'm waiting until it's more stable and my more important extensions are usable. I use Hulu's desktop viewer and Opera to make up for it, currently.
Adding screenshots of my experience with it. The text will load, but no video or images. That's why I thought it might be some new language / protocol.

  • Installed Firefox 20 update, but won't run and keeps telling me have to restart computer, which I've done 5 times.

Downloaded and installed Firefox 20, but it won't start up. Window pops up saying "Your computer must be restarted to complete a previous update of Firefox. Do you want to reboot now?" I have rebooted several times, to no avail.

Certain Firefox problems can be solved by performing a ''Clean reinstall''. This means you remove Firefox program files and then reinstall Firefox. Please follow these steps:
'''Note:''' You might want to print these steps or view them in another browser.
#Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from http://www.mozilla.org and save the setup file to your computer.
#After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (click Exit from the Firefox or File menu).
#Delete the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of these locations, by default:
    #*'''Windows:'''
    #**C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
    #**C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
#*'''Mac:''' Delete Firefox from the Applications folder.
#*'''Linux:''' If you installed Firefox with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it - see [[Installing Firefox on Linux]]. If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the [http://www.mozilla.org/firefox#desktop Firefox download page], simply remove the folder ''firefox'' in your home directory.
#Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
##Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
##Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.
Please report back to see if this helped you!

  • Can not install the latest firefox. It tells me that its running so i can not install it. Mean while it's closed. I have check everything that i can to make sure it is closed but still have the same issue.

Cant not install the latest Firefox.

Do a clean (re)install and delete the Firefox program folder.
    * Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
    * Firefox 8.0.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html
    * Uninstall your current Firefox version.
    * Do not remove personal data when you uninstall the current version or you lose your bookmarks and other data in the profile folder.
    * Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
    * It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.
