Latest iPhoto Update question.

I just ran the iPhoto update - says step 9 100% complete but it keeps running.  How long after it says complete does it take to restart iPhoto?

Couple of momens. It may be hung.
Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

  • Events after latest iPhoto update divided themselves on iPad, Apple TV and iPhone

After the latest iPhoto Update I noticed a strange behaviour: In iPhoto i have about 10 events of photos. When I connect an iPhone or iPad and click on the photos rider in iTunes, there are at least 25 events. For example the Berlin event exists in iPhoto only once. On the i-device the event divided itself in three events! How comes? Bevore the Update everything was fine. iTunes transferred the only existing Berlin event in iPhoto. Now i have 3 events to chose from. And only when I chose all 3 of them I get the full photo set.
I did not change any settings. Bevore the iPhoto Update everything was fine, now chaos. Any ideas?

Obviously, I'm not alone with this:

  • Lost all photos after iphoto latest iphoto update

I have just lost all my photos in iphoto after latest update. Anyone knows whats going on?
Over 3,000 photos for last 15 years and I am devastated not forgetting I relly on apple as I own most of their products.
I see a trend in apple updates, deleting of user data as similar thing happened with email when I updated to OSX Mountain Lion way back.
Apple should know not forget user data is more importnat than updates as there is no point owning a device that will not give me confort that my data is safe.

    Hi Terence,
I installed iPhoto Library Manager, and it's a great program, however I am still having issues.
I discovered today in the Day One App, as well as Mail that the Photo Browser contains the missing photos, projects etc. See image below. I have no idea where these photos are kept and when I search for the name of a photo, the photo does not appear.
I clicked on Aperture and it would like me to Upgrade, and I'm not sure if I should, please advise.
Lastly in the iPhoto Library Manager, when I select add library and click on Aperture I get the messsage attached.
Do you have any insight on this.  It looks like the photos are there, I just don't know where to look.
    Thanks for your help!

  • Latest iPhoto update cannot complete

I downloaded and installed the latest version of iPhoto.  The installation went without a hitch.  The problem started when I tried to open iPhoto for the first time after the installation.  A note popped up saying the file or photos need to be somehow updated too.  I clicked OK and that was the last I ever saw of iPhoto in any useable form.  All I get now is a timer indicating the update is continuing.  That little timer went on for a couple days and I finally gave up and Force Closed the application.  Next time I opened it a similar thing happened.  And the little timer thing just keeps going.

Hi folks.  I'm having the exact same problem.  In fact, I've done everything or selected every option available when relaunching while holding down option and command.  The progress indicator has been indicating that it's "restoring faces" since 9:30pm last night.  That's nearly 14 hours ago.  Maybe it's stuck on how to restore my face.  Heaven knows I need it!  I'm just waiting for the progress bar to come back and say "sorry mate, there's nothing more I can do for you
    Anyone have anyfurther suggestions?

  • Latest iPhoto Update Supports Nikon D300?!?

what the heck? a reader over at MacFixIt.com is reporting that the latest update to iPhoto includes support for the Nikon D300 RAW format. i will confirm this when i get home later tonight. the update to iPhoto does not bring support for the D300 to Aperture however.
    ugh.
    here's the link:
    http://www.macfixit.com/article.php?story=20080206094730580

First, this is all nonofficial information people have cobbled together on their own - no offical Apple dates etc.. Unfortunately Apple doesn't say anything about anything unreleased so the users are forced to do this...
According to this article (http://www.hardmac.com/news/2008-01-24/#7656), the OS X 10.5.2 update beta does have support for the new Nikons.
When the OS X update is let out into the wild, your D300 RAWs should be recognized. Estimates on the non official boards that track the beta OS X updates are guestimating for a release in a couple of weeks (presuming nothing horrible pops up in the newer betas).
What you do if your running Tiger (OS X 10.4.x) has, like everything else, not been addressed by Apple. Hopefully Apple won't leave those users hanging...as there are not any reports of a 10.4.12 update...it makes you wonder what Apple will do.
This will be a continuing problem Apple will have every time a new DSLR is released (which is pretty much constantly), unless they change their processes for RAW def creation/distribution. This problem probably has to be recognized and considered important by someone higher than the Lightroom Program Manager (since the defs are in the OS, I'm guessing they're the OS X managers responsiblity) and my suspicion is that the overlord of OS X could care less about when these things get out.

  • After latest iPhoto update - Permissions Problem

I updates iPhoto on my iMac, after updating my iPhones and iPad to IOS 6. iPhoto than prompted me that my library on the iMac needed to be upgraded. After attempting to upgrade the library I rec'd a message that the library could not be upgraded due to a permissions problem and I needed to mix the permissions first. Ok, how do I fix the permissions in iPhoto?
Also, now when I attempt to sync my iPad or iPhones I receive an message, "The iphone/iPad cannot be synced. An unknown error has occurred - 1140", - iTunes is unable to finish the sync. I believe this is related to iPhoto since iPhoto is not even being accessed during the sync.
Can anyone please help? Since the upgrade to IOS 6 and the update od iPhoto I am unable to sync iPhones or iPad.
    Thanks,
    Sal

I just started having the same problem. Unfortunately the suggested solution didn't help. I had to uncheck the "Sync Photos from iPhoto" option to get the sync to complete successfully. Looking more closely at the sync options, I realized that they had defaulted back to "sync all photos, events, etc" - which I definitely did not want. (Must have happened when I upgraded iTunes and upgraded to iOS 6.) But - and this was the real surprise - the option to sync only "selected albums etc" is greyed out. I can't select it, whether the overall sync checkbox is checked or not.

  • My photos no longer print out in good quality since the latest iPhoto update to 9.5.1. This is happening with photos that have previously printed out at a large size with no problem.

Since the upgrade to the latest version of iPhoto the photos no longer print in good quality. They appear crisp and in good focus on the monitor, then when they go to the page where they get edited and printed from, they go blurry. This is happening with photos hat I have previously printed out in large format ith no problems. I have looked at Preferencces but don't see anything about setting photo quality. Any ideas??

At that size all you're getting is about 100-120 dpi. 300 dpi is considered most desireable for prints. Do you have a 4x6 print of the same photo made before you upgraded to 9.5.1 and Mavericks to compare with?

  • IPhoto update question

I purchased iPhoto '11 via the MAS, and installed it on my MacBook and my iMac.  The version currently installed on the MacBook is v. 9.1.3 (607).
The MAS is telling me that there is an update available, but when I try to run it, I get the following message:
"You have updates available for other accounts.  To update this application, sign in to the account you used to purchase it."
This makes no sense to me, because I have only one account (which I used to install iPhoto on both Macs).  I signed in using my ONE account ID, but I still get this message.
Any suggestions as to what I should do next?
    Thanks,
    Bill in CT

Yes, there is some kind of bug with the MAS updates, this is just one form.
There are a couple different approaches that you could take. The quickest is to Trash iPhoto. Restart and the MAS should allow you to install iPhoto again and this will be the new version.
    or
    1. Quit the Mac App Store
    2. Trash the following folders and files; (~ is your Home folder)
         ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.appstore
         ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.storeagent
         ~/Library/Cookies/com.apple.appstore.plist
         ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.appstore.plist
         ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.storeagent.plist
    3. Restart your Mac
    4. Open the Mac App Store
    5. Log into your MAS account

  • I cannot open iPhoto after upgrading latest apple updates.  Getting a message latest iPhoto version is not available in the US

    MacBook pro, 8GB,  OSX Yosemite
I cannot open iPhoto after latest apple upgrade.  Getting message latest iPhoto version is not available in the US.

Go to the App Store and check out the Purchases List. If iPhoto is there then it will be v9.6.1
If it is there, then drag your existing iPhoto app (not the library, just the app) to the trash
Install the App from the App Store.
Sometimes iPhoto is not visible on the Purchases List. it may be hidden. See this article for details on how to unhide it.

One question often asked: Will I lose my Photos if I reinstall?
iPhoto the application and the iPhoto Library are two different parts of the iPhoto programme. So, reinstalling the app should not affect the Library. BUT you should always have a back up before doing this kind of work. Always.

  • I just installed the latest Security update and now I can't open iPhoto. I keep getting a message that it quit unexpectedly because of a problem with the scene kit plugin. I have no access to my photos.

I just installed the latest security update and now I cannot access iPhoto. I keep getting a message that it quit unexpectedly due to some conflict with the Scene Kit plugin.
I'm using a Macbook Pro  Mavericks Version 10.9.5

Probably the reboot used to log into the Guest account and then your account again fixed the problem.  If often will.

  • My HP scanner/printer scans but my iMac doesn't seem to accept the scans in either iPhoto or Pictures.  I've got os 10.6.8 and all the latest sofware updates for the scanner and for iPhoto.  Helpv

My Hp printer/scanner C5280 used to work fine with my iMac with OS 10.6 but lately after doing the scan it doesn't seem to finish by putting the scan in either iPhoto or in pictures.  I have all the latest sofware updates for both devices. The scanner does the "preview" scan right away and the copier works fine.  Is there some setting I am overlooking?

Try using Image Capture, you will find it in your Applications folder. In either IC or the method you are using you can tell the application to scan to a destination. It will look similar to:
If you still have trouble give AppleCare a call or visit your local Apple Store Genius and they can walk you through it. Your problem may be the at you are not defining anything in the preview to be scanned, you do this by dragging the mouse over the area you want scanned and it will draw a box around it.  Here is a screen shot that show's that.

  • Can't open iPhoto with latest software update

I'm running iPhoto 11 on my Mac using OSX 10.9.1 On Dec.12th I updated the iPhoto software to the latest version. When I try to open iPhoto on my Mac I get an alert box saying that I must upgrade to the latest version of iPhoto or I can't open my library.I've rechecked the latest iPhoto software and it says that it's installed. Any ideas ?
    Thanks,
    Bill

As Larry has already pointed out if you had iPhoto 7 before the upgrade you'll need download the iPhoto Library Upgrader 1.1, launch it and run it on your iPhoto library. It will be located in your Applications/Utilities folder.  Then iPhoto 9.5.1 will be able to open and use your library.
    Happy New Year
