Latest iPod Shuffle download has error

When I try to install (and now download and run the latest software for the Shuffle, I get an error message that there was an "Error Reading Setup Initialization File". How do I get the software to download so I can update my kid's iPod w/the latest software. It does not want to load anything until I update.

Do you now have iTunes version 6.0 operating on your computer? Assuming you do, and it works with your Nano and your daughter's Shuffle, then try plugging your son's Shuffle into the same USB port that works with your daughter's Shuffle and the Nano -- don't try several ports at one time. Your son's Shuffle should appear in the iTunes playlist just like the other two iPods -- name it and register it, and if it's working properly you should be able to drag and drop songs into it, or use the Autofill feature unique to the Shuffle. The probable reason your daughter's Shuffle lost its songs is that they were/are not in the iTunes Library on your computer. And, once everything's working, avoid update offers. Also, while a Shuffle is plugged in (and recognized by iTunes) use the Options button (leftmost of the four at the bottom of the iTunes screen -- it will only appear when a iPod is plugged in) to select "Keep this iPod in the Playlist" and to deselect "Open iTunes when this iPod is plugged in" -- the latter deselection allows you to plug in a Shuffle for charging without opening iTunes.

You downloaded iTunes AND installed it, right? What you downloaded is the installer, which installs the iTunes app (and other things like drivers) on your computer. You then have to run the iTunes app.
If you did that already, make sure the USB docking cable's plug is completely inserted into the shuffle's headphones jack, as shown in this document

When connected, the shuffle's light should come ON. That indicates it is getting power. If it blinks orange (at least initially), that indicates it is connecting for data.
If you are good so far, in iTunes, the sidebar (along left side of window) may be hidden. If it is, from the menu bar, under View, select Show Sidebar. When the shuffle is connected, it should be listed in the sidebar, below DEVICES. Does it appear there?

I'm not so sure it will work: have you seen the newest iPod shuffles? I haven't seen them in person, only via Apple.Com . Those little shuffles are small. When I look at the cable that I use with the iPad, it looks wider than the Shuffle! I appreciate your time, though.

Do you have an iCloud backup? If you backed up your old phone to iCloud you can go to Settings>General>Reset>Erast All Content & Settings (which will erase your phone), then go back through the setup screens again and when prompted choose Restore From iCloud Backup. However your backup won't contain everything in your iTunes library (such as your music) so you'll need to be able to sync with your computer unless you purchased everything from iTunes and want to redownload it to your phone.

That old "Reset Utility" is ONLY for the 1st and 2nd gen iPod shuffle, which had some issues that prevented using the standard Restore in iTunes, so Apple release that utility. It was released when Windows XP was the latest version of Window; it does not work with Windows 7. But it would not help you if your shuffle is 4th gen.
When you say "reset," are you trying to do a Restore on the shuffle in iTunes, from the shuffle's Summary tab? When does that error message appear, exactly?

Latest ipod Shuffle upgrade having problems with volume!

I just upgrated to the latest software version of the ipod shuffle and now I can't change the volume on my device with out having the music being played affected causing it to break frecuently during play out. I will like to remove this newer software upgrate and just leave it as it was, when it was working all fine. Any Ideas?

What's described Here should work if you have iTunes 7; I haven't tried it yet, though.
Otherwise, locate the most recent updater [2006-6-28] (they're found in ~/Applications/Utilities/iPod Software Updater.localized on my machine). Download it if necessary.
Run the updater; connect the shuffle when prompted.

Hello Folks, I have experienced countless errors with my ipod shuffle, and for a while I thought about ditching it altogether. Finally I found the solution. And this solution ALWAYS works for me (Worked on three of my shuffles so far):
*Note - You MUST follow the steps in order!!
1. Disconnect the iPod from the computer.
2.Then go to "start> right click my computer>
manage> services and applications> services> click iPod service> click stop service."
3.Then connect the ipod and it should show up in my computer. Format it so all content is gone.
4.Next, go back to "start> right click my computer>manage> services and applications> services> click iPod service> click Start service."
5.This should have the service running again. Open iTunes and connect the shuffle.
6.When it says to automatically fill it (the window that pops up) dont unclick it,
7.proceed so the shuffle autofills. Before it stops, quickly go to the settings tab.
8.Then, scroll down to where it says "enable disk use".
9.select that and hit apply. Now, you manually eject the iPod and you can manage your music!
I had the same problem and several others as you and this eliminated the problem! I hope that helped. Can't take credit for this one. Someone else posted this a while back, but it works.

I have a brand new iPod shuffle, and I'm trying to connect it and download music from itunes. I've been getting the "iPod cannot be synced", "the required disk cannot be found", and "cannot be restored; an unknown error occured (1418)".
In reading Apple's solution to the 1418 error message, they tell you to "highlight all 10 lines of text that begins with regsvr32..." Where do I find such text to highlight? I can follow the rest of their instruction, but don't know where to find such .dll text lines. Please help.
My next step will be to try your solution of "stopping the iPod service". But, will I be lead through the steps on how to "format it so all content is gone" once it shows up in "my computer"?

IPod Shuffle Service Request Error???!!!

Hey all, I'm sending my iPod Shuffle back to apple because it's no longer recognized by iTunes of my PC and it no longer charges either. So I entered all my info on the onlince service request page, credit card, shipping address, etc. Then after I hit the last step, I got 2 "SQL Server" errors or something that popped up, but the page with my case number and dispatch number, etc. still loaded. So what I'm asking is, did Apple really get all my info, because if this SQL server error message popped up didn't send all my data, I'll be charged $169 (I CANNOT AFFORD THIS!) right? So I guess I wait and see if I get an email from Apple, but any help would be appreciated, $169 is far too much for me at the moment

My Ipod Shuffle 2 is connected to my Itunes on, I can create the name and everything seems fine. When I try to transfer songs, Itunes is showing that it is synchronizing and then I get an error message saying it cannot read or write from the device. What's wrong? I try reset the ipod, re-install the Itunes but I still get the same error.

My iPod Shuffle 4g has no battery status voice over, either. What could effect the d.click?

I have turned off the iPod Shuffle and turned on after 10sec. I have opened the iPod summary page in iTunes and check and unchecked "voice over" and applied. I have "restored" the ipod. I am using Mac Lion 10.7.2 and iTunes 10 10.5.2. I have read Phillip's answer to Zazuum. WHAT am I looking for that would effect the double click? - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try another cable
- Try on another computer

As a test, you may want to shut down (power off) your computer, then disconnect all USB devices (including hubs). You can leave standard keyboard/mouse connected, if used. Start the computer, run iTunes, and connect the shuffle (by itself) to a direct USB port on the computer.
Are you using the original USB docking cable that came with your shuffle?

Hello everyone. I have the above problem. I tried iPod reset utility but I can't get it going since it says it's only for 32 bit OS :S I don't know if anyone is still using 32 bit OS, and I won't install one just to reset this.. Any advice?

Slow iPod Shuffle Downloads

Does any one know how fast songs should transfer to the iPod shuffle from iTunes 4.9 on Windows XP SP2 using USB 2?
My transfers have been slow; taking over 10 minutes to transfer around 500 Mb of songs, even if AAC compression is turned off.
Does anyone have any suggestions?

I recently "upgraded" to a shuffle from a mini (I didn't use all the features of the mini and my wife wanted an iPod).
The fastest transfers were with the mini using firewire. Next fastet was the mini using USB 2.0. The shuffle with USB 2.0 was slower again. USB 1.1 is the slowest.
Interestingly, the shuffle over USB 2.0 is not that much faster than USB 1.1. As others have said, this is due to the slow write speeds of flash memory. USB 2.0 can burst data at 480MB/s but the flash is probably writing at around 20MB/s, which is much closer to USB 1.1's 12MB/s.
