Latest iTunes update erased everything on my mac mini

After the latest update of iTunes about 2 weeks ago, nothing works on my mac mini except iTunes. All of my pictures are gone. only 1 cd is still in the library and it will play but the rest, about 97% of my music, is gone. All of my installed applications are missing. Surprisingly my movies are still there and they will play. None of the system applications work any more. Time maching gives me an unknown error when I try to open it. Safari does not exist any more. Any ideas on how to roll back the update?

Frankly if an iTunes update could do that much to your computer then your computer must have been in pretty bad shape to start with in terms of directory corruption, badly set permissions, etc.
The only feasible way to roll back an update is to restore to an earlier copy of your drive using a backup.
I'd start by booting to your installer disc, then use Disk Utilities to verify and repair the drive if necessary.  Once it reports all is clear, boot to your computer's hard drive and use Disk Utility in Utilities to to repair permissions.  The problem with doing this now vs. before all this started is that some damage may have already been done ans might not be reversible without a lot of work, if at all.

  • Hi, i'm having trouble with syncing my iPod. (after the latest iTunes-update)

It's a classic, but I have no idea what generation... but it was bought in early 08, and have 80gb. Anyway, it has been working fine all the time, but by the latest iTunes-update, it has stopped working. (mac) Every time I try to connect it with my computer, iTunes says that "this iPod appears to be destroyed, try to restore" (I'm having iTunes in Norwegian, so not sure if this is the direct translation, but hopefully you'll get the picture) - and I try to do this, again and again, but nothing seems to work. I have tried to turn off the computer, put iPod in disc-mode, let the battery run out, give it a two-week break, and now I'm out of guesses on what to do. But no matter what I do it allways appear to have zero songs on it after I am done syncing, and I allways get the "try to restore"-message when i connect it again.
It's possible that it's just old age or something, but I really want to try everything first, as it seems to be all right otherways. It also works when I connect it with my friend's  PC, but since she has ****** taste of music () it's not an option. I have a MacBook, also from 2008.
And just to clearify. I have an iPad2, and an old iPod nano (2006) and both works with my computer/iTunes.

Your MacBook Pro can be updated to run Mac OS X "Snow Leopard". Buy it. That will enable you to run the latest iTunes version.

I can only listen to music in iTunes when i'm connected to the internet. Everything seems to have uploaded onto iCloud - something I didn't sign up for. Happened with the latest iTunes update.
All of the music is still on my computer, but when I play it through iTunes, it either buffers first (when I'm connected to the internet) or it is greyed out (offline) and I can't listen to it.
This is beyond annoying. Is there anything I can do to sort this out?
    Cheers.

  • Latest itunes update 11.0.2 causes blue screen

I have updated the itunes Software to the latest version (11.0.2) twice now.  Shortly after the update I get the blue screen.  The only way to remedy the situation is to restore the OS back to the point prior to the itunes update.  Everything works fine with version 11.0.1.12.  Any insights?

Try just downloading and installing from the Support site - http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1614 - instead of the Mac App Store.

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.
If you've already tried a complete uninstall and reinstall try opening iTunes in safe mode (hold down CTRL+SHIFT as you start iTunes) then going to Edit > Preferences > Store and turning off Show iTunes in the Cloud purchases. You may find iTunes will now start normally.

  • Ipod Touch 3rd Gen Wiped with Latest iTunes Update

    Hi,
I had my ipod touch 3rd gen up to date with the latest firmware 5.x whatever it was. Then recently they released a new iTunes update which i downloaded and updated. Although doing this itunes update wiped everything off my ipod. I manually manage my music and this is very annoying to have to reselect all the songs i like and to put it back in. What could be the reason for this ? and what could i do to make sure this doesnt happen again!
I had already just recently manually added all songs again when OS5 had just released and having to do it now for the 2nd time after that just seems annoying.
    Please Help
    Thanks!

I would just go to the Apple Store and search for headphone with mic under iPod accessories.

  • TS1368 I downloaded the latest ITunes update, 10.6 I think. I can still sync my Ipod, but I can no longer access the Itunes Store.  No error message, it just keeps "accessing" but nothing shows up.  I've restarted my computer twice.

I downloaded the latest Itunes update, 10.6 I think. I can still sync my Ipod, but now I can't access the Itunes Store.  There's no error message, it just keeps "accessing" but never completes.  How can I fix this?

Ok... I just tried connecting my iPod directly to a USB port on the computer rather than via the USB hub I was using and everything is fine. Odd, but I'm happy now.
    Thanks,

  • Latest itunes update disbled my iphone personal hotspot on 1-22-2014

On 1/22/2014 I downloaded the latest itunes update. When it was done itunes would not recognize my iphone and my computer would not connect with iphone for internet. I use my iphone4s as a personal hotspot to access the internet. I had to do a computer system restore just to get the phone and computer to work together via USB cable to access internet. I then was able to update the Ralink driver to enable wi-fi. I seem to have everything working now. Why did this happen? Should I ever allow itunes updates again?

    SOLVED, BY MYSELF
Ok, so I had to post this because I didn't get any help anywhere, and I hope that my experience will help others. I can't tell you how many times I tried uninstalling and reinstalling itunes to see if that helped. No. What I finally did out of frustration, is under add/remove programs, removed everything apple related from my pc: itunes, safari, quicktime, apple application support, apple mobile device support, apple software update, bonjour, and mobileme. Then I reinstalled itunes. Finally itunes recognized my iphone, and I didn't lose any of my music. Hope this helps everyone who has had a similar problem running windows xp.

  • Latest iTunes update restarts track when pressing pause in the last seconds of play

When I updated to the last version of iTunes (might have been earlier, haven't used it like that in some time) the program started doing a very annoying thing: if you pause a track in the last seconds (I think it's 3) it rewinds it to the very start. I'm constantly reviewing and rating songs I get sent so I'm used to pausing the songs in the last seconds. But now it won't resume where I left it but restart completely. Anybody else noticed that? Is it just me or all the latest iTunes updates have only brought annoying things like this on board? Any idea how to overcome that?

Have experienced the same problem with iTunes 11.1.3 on both Mac and Windows. Very annoying.

I think I am going to delete the version and install it again,,, by the way I using Mac.
I will try to do it as sson as I am back home, where my Mac is.

  • Cannot purchase when signed in after latest ITunes update

Since the latest ITunes update I have not ben able to purchase anything through the ITunes Store. I've tried signing out > restarting ITunes and signing back in which works fine, but when I try to purchase I'm prompted for my credendials over and over again. I repaired permissions, and I get no errors - just more prompts. I know the credendials I'm entering are valid, and the update is the only change to my system since my last purchase. I disabled my firewall as well. Anyone else having this issue?

Unfortunately it won't go into disk mode. Even tried the "put your ipod on a flat surface" trick. I'm wondering if the battery hasn't stopped holding a charge. But it seems the symptoms would be more like a constant battery icon. Instead I'm getting the sad face everytime I try to put it in disk mode or reset. Ideas? Throw ipod against wall? Blow on it like old-school Nintendo cartridges?
Oh, and yes, it is Windows formatted.
Any and all help would be appreciated.

  • Latest iTune update (May 2014) - unable to play any videos (movies/TV shows)

After the latest iTunes update to 11.2.2.3 I can no longer play any of my purchased/downloaded videos, be it TV shows or Movies. Video window opens up and then nothing, black screen, nothing happens, doesn't play. Tried skipping ahead and still no video/audio playing.  All my iTunes audio music plays fine, just issues with video playback. Any one else having these issues? Any suggestions out there? Apple, what have you done? Help!!

Windows 7 64bit - iTunes 64bit. Open the video - in this case, a TV episode. Sound is great. Picture is black.
Other streamers - HBO, DirecTV, FX, Hulu, Netflix - work great.
If I remote to the computer using RDC, I can see the picture via the remote connection.
I've tried the above instructions and uninstalled everything Apple, in order. I've even removed everything Apple in AppData and removed temp files.
I've rebooted and reinstalled it - and again, in Remote Desktop Connection it's showing the image.
On the computer itself, it works great with the sound, but...
    No picture.
I've been looking in the Event Viewer and noticed some errors in the .net framework. Not spotting anything else at this time.

  • Can I still sync my iphone 4 in ios 7 to the latest itunes update?

Right now my iTunes and my laptop can't detect my device (iphone 4), so I'm wondering if installing the latest iTunes update is the case. And I'm also worried if I do that, it will only prevent me from syncing my iphone to my iTunes. Help anyone?

    Hi ..
    An iPhone 4 cannot be updated to iOS 8 >   Apple - iOS 8 - What’s New
iOS 7.1.2 is the latest version available for an iPhone 4.
If iTunes doesn't recognize the iPhone ...

For Windows >  iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
Make sure your computer meets the requiremens for iTunes for Mac or Windows >  Apple - iTunes - Download iTunes Now
