Latest iTunes version, wont recognize ipod content

OK. I was using older version of iTunes. I have a 30 gb ipod video with 20gb loaded on it. I used to be able to connect my ipod to my computer, itunes would fire up, and I could view all contents of the ipod on the itunes interface. Now, since I have upgraded, I can no longer view any of the contents from the ipod in itunes. So why did I upgrade? now nothing works right. Apple has some issues. I give up!

I am having the exact same problem. I hate the new version.. I can't see any of the music already on my iPod... plus the music in my library skips!

  • ITunes 7 wont recognize iPod(s) any more

    Hi there !
Since upgrading to iTunes 7 I've found that iTunes fails to recognize my iPods 90% of the time, and the 10% it does find it, it will disconnect after a few seconds and/or report an error with it. Generally this then causes the iPod to lock up and need a reset.
I have two iPods (2nd gen 20gb and 5th gen 80gb)and they both show similar symptoms on different machines (1 iPod is used exclusively by one PC and the same for the other one).
Initially the 80gb worked fine for a few days, but after fitting a USB mouse things started to go wrong (may be a coincedence but this was the only change I could see). I guess perhaps this caused devices to be reordered on the USB bus and iTunes 7 can't cope with this ?? Removing the mouse though has not fixed the issue.
The 2nd gen 20gb never really worked from the initial upgrade to iTunes 7. Random disconnects and hangs when syncing and generally not showing up in iTunes (could see it in Windows explorer and manually copy files across fine)
In desperation I removed iTunes 7 and went back to version 6 and everything is working fine again !!
Switching back to iTunes 6 just meant I had to wait whilst 60gb of music was rescanned into a library It also means I can't play games on my nice new 80gb iPod which is annoying but I can live with this for a little while...I just hope when all the bugs are ironed out I won't have to pay for the games again !
On the plus side, iTunes 6 is a lot faster than iTunes 7 so I guess in a small way I should be happy.
Has anyone had similar experiences with iTunes 7 not recognizing their iPod ?
    Cheers
    Ted
P.S. I've been through all the troubleshooting guides about resetting, restoring iPods, all cables are secure and have Terminal Services running in my services etc. so I'm 100% sure everything is setup fine. The problem is the fact that iTunes 7 or more acurately the new ipodserver.exe / ipodhelper.exe are junk.

    Have you looked at these:
iPhone, iPad, iPod touch: Device not recognized in iTunes for Mac OS X
Mac OS X v10.6 or later: iOS device not recognized in iTunes after restart
(this may apply but you did not say what OSX you are running)

  • I downloaded the latest itunes version while my ipod 4 touch was plugged into my usb port on my laptop. After it downloaded on my computer the ipod froze and it shows a picture of a usb cable, and an arrow pointing to the itunes symbol.

i tried to restart and re download everything and it still is doing the same thing. this keeps happening alot and i have to end up taking the ipod to the apple store to have them erase everything on my ipod to restart it. is there anything i can do at home to fix it

Have you tried to put the device into DFU mode?
To put the device in DFU mode,
    1. Connect the device to iTunes
    2. Hold both the power button and the home button down simultaneously
    3. After 10 seconds, release the power button but leave the home button pressed
    4. iTunes should then recognize that the device has entered DFU mode and ask to restore.
    I hope that helps.

  • HT203167 I have just downloaded the latest itunes version (11.0.1). All my data cannot now be located, though the library is showing all the correct content. The data is stored on an external hard drive. How do I tell the library where to find it's data?

The iTunes application should be installed on the system drive. You may need to repair iTunes to fix that error regarding a missing .exe.
To organize your library properly see Make a split library portable.
If you don't have a working version of the library that can be transformed into a portable shape I have tools and techniques that can repair the broken links.

  • After latest iTunes version was downloaded my Ipod behaves strange

I have downloaded the latest iTunes version and I have the following 2 issues:
    1. The artwork is not being updated correctly, a lot of songs are missing the artwork even if it shows on iTunes
    2. Around 400 songs are getting duplicated, and I haven't been able to deleted them, I've tried to manually manage song, I've also tried un sync music and syncagain but nothing seems to work, after the ipod deletes and adds everythin, all 400 songs are still duplicated.
I want to try to restore the ipod but I will loose all other contacts, apps info, etc...  Am i wrong?
    Please assist
    Thanks

Check if all your songs, apps and other files are on iTunes Media folder. If not, try to set it all up inside that folder.

  • Will the latest iTunes version nullify operations of older ipods?

My son bought the latest iPod Nano (Gen 7) and found he needs to run the latest iTunes version supported by OS Mountain Lion in order to use it. We are running Mac OS X 10.5.8 (OS X Leopard).
To run the latest, Mountain Lion, will require 2 upgrades on our part. Apparently we have to upgrade to OS X Snow Leopard before we can upgrade to OS X Mountain Lion.
This is all fine, but my son thought he saw something on an online forum that if we upgrade to Mountain Lion, our older iPods and my other son's iPod Touch ( all purchased within the last 4 or 5 years) might not be able to run/load/sync tunes on the newest iTunes version.
This seems counter-intuitive to me and may be (and probably is) complete bulldust. What's your knowledge of this situation?

My 3rd gen iPod (2003 model), which connects using FireWire instead of USB, still works fine with the latest iTunes.  My 4th gen iPod (2004 model) and 1st gen iPod shuffle (2005 model) also work fine.  I don't have one to try, but I'll bet even the very first iPod from 2001 would work fine.  Everything on the Internet is NOT true...
The iPod nano 7th gen specs
    http://www.apple.com/ipod-nano/specs.html
say the Mac System Requirements are "OS X v10.6.8 or later, and iTunes 10.7 or later."  So, technically, it does not require Mountain Lion, and the latest version of iTunes (11) works with Snow Leopard (10.6.8).
So, the minimum paid for upgrade (for you to use a 7th gen nano) would be for Snow Leopard, which is available from the online Apple Store for $20.
NOTE:  If the Mac is a PowerPC Mac, you cannot upgrade it to Snow Leopard (Intel-only).

  • HT1926 I just tried to update to latest iTunes version and received an error 7 (Windows error 1114) that "iTunes was not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes." How so I go about this without losing my library contents (which are not backed up on c

I just tried to install latest iTunes version and install failed. A pop-up stated "iTunes was not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes. ERROR 7 (Windows error 1114)." I have a decent-sized iTunes library that is not backed-up to the cloud. How can I either get back to the previous iTunes version that was functioning OR install a new version without losing the Library?

Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall move on to the next item)
    Bonjour
    Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.
    Please note:
Some users may need to follow all the steps in whichever of the following support documents applies to their system. These include some additional manual file and folder deletions not mentioned above.

  • ITunes won't recognize iPod, but Windows will...

When I plug in my iPod a Windows folder comes up, showing the folders within the iPod, but iTunes doesn't recognize that it is connected. I have the latest iTunes(5.0) and iPod software. What's going on here?
Also: Are there any advantages to defragmenting and error checking the iPod's harddrive?

    Try to reset the iPod.

  • Latest itunes version

HELP PLEASE !!! I upgraded to the latest itunes version a couple of days ago and getting desperate doing the most simple things, like putting a playlist together . Everthing is so unnecessarly complicated  For example, before, when i needed a special type of music I put some key word in the search field and would inmediatly get all the songs which I had commented or contained this word... eg,." emotion",   "serene" etc. This was really helpful for finding music very quickly  !
Now it only turns out the title containing this word !  This new version is NOT the usual user friendly mac style !
Is there any way to go back to the older version ? Please give me good news !

There are also reports on the iTFW forum that it solves the issue of iTunes crashing or freezing when the iPod is connected, but I've not seen that confirmed as of yet.

    Hello Jane Benstock,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities
It sounds like the next best step to take would be to reset the iPod Shuffle.

  • I cannot find apple tv (1st generation) under devices after downloading the latest itunes version

i cannot find apple tv (1st generation) under devices after downloading the latest itunes version.
cannot stream any pictures or music
    any suggestions?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
If restarting everything including your router doesn't help......
Navigate to Settings > Computers > Your Library on the Apple TV, you may be told you will lose all synced content, but you can sync it back afterwards, you won't lose any purchased content that has yet to be transferred. Then select Settings > Computers > Connect To iTunes, note the passcode that appears on screen, click on the device in iTunes and enter the passcode when prompted.
