Latest Leopard and LR 1.3.1 back-up issue. Thoughts please.

Hi All,
Running the latest Leopard and LR 1.3.1.
Transition to 1.3.1 went smoothly (or so it seams) But backing-up seems to be an issue.
Upon opening LR and trying to back-up, I get a dialog box that states "Lightroom is unable to back-up catalog, do you wish to continue?". If I continue, it does open up fine and appears to be fully operational. I have tried the 'Optimizing Library', but still behaves the same.
FYI, this on a new MacBook Pro Intel machine, and the file was originally created on a Power PC G4 machine. If that should make a difference, not sure.
Thanks in advance, for any suggestions.
Sol

Try the following with Lightroom off, select the folder enclosing your catalog file, hit apple-I, disclose the sharing/permissions tab, hit the little padlock right bottom, make sure the permissions for your account are set to read&write. Then click on the little popup on the bottom (might look grey but it is still active) that has a little gear and a triangle and do "apply to enclosed items". On Tiger it is just a click box I think but it works the same. Now run Lightroom and see if this solves the problem

I need to know if the new Fire Fox 8.0.1 will support the Norton tool bar? The last time I updated to Fire Fox 5, Norton would not work and I had to go back to 3.6. Some one said they were working on it but I sure would like to know before I switch. Norton handles all of my pass words. I sure do not want to loose that feature. Regards Ron

  • Snow Leopard and NAS QNAP TS-459 possible permission issues?

I am running an art department and we have been using a NAS box as our server which has worked out well for us prior to installing Snow Leopard and our 2 new imacs.
Since installing we have run into the following issues:
    1. If a user has recently worked on a file, saved, etc., that user or another user cannot move or rename the parent folder into another location on the server. The contents of the folder can be moved or altered, but not the parent folder (with all its contents)
    2. If the file has been left for several hours, or the user has shut down the folder(parent file) can be moved.
    3. sometimes however, we cannot rename a folder regardless of who or when it was created... we will get an error message similar to the following: You don’t have permission to rename the item “xxx”.
    4. The renaming/moving issues are also sporadic, there seems to be a bigger problem when the server(NAS) is under a lot of use.
We have had to copy the files to our desktops, throw out the file on the server and then refile in its new destination.
    Can you shed some light

The account that's is not working is the MAIN account created with Lion, after upgrading from the AWESOME Snow Leopard...
So I need to understand one thing, I need to do a backup, then I open the new admin account (not main) I created and migrate everything over there??? And then delete the old main account?
Note: The new admin account I created seems to work without issues, I just started few of the programs that were not working (in the main account) and they start without error messages.

  • Windows 7 x64 Pro, desktop GUI fails to display correctly, or crashes, when High RAM load, and even after. HW changed, same issue. Please Help.

    Hi Guys,
I have have this horror issue with my PC. I have even changed the hardware configuration and the problem still persists. My PC fails to display the desktop correctly after using highly RAM intensive applications, especially Chrome, but even after getting
the chance to close it, or waiting for it to crash by itself, the PC is still not able to display correctly the GUI, even on other browser/applications as shown in the screenshots.
    1st Hardware Config:
    Intel Core2Quad Q9450
    4x2GB DDR2
    MSI P43 motherboard
    Ati Radeon x550 video card
Software used, that seemed important for me to mention:
    NOD32 v4.2
    Comodo Firewall 5.12
    Chrome
    Screenshot Captor
    SpeedFan
    Other mentions:
Aero is disabled, because I've considered that it's one of the causes.
So, I've considered that it's a RAM issue or a videocard issue, and I've upgraded to:
    Intel Core i7 3770k
    4x8GB DDR3
    Asus P8Z77V-LX motherboard
Intel GPU integrated in the 3770k CPU
The problem just happened 2 times on this rig also, and the RAM was not even coming close to  it's maximum capacity of 31.7GB. It was at ~20GB's.
Also, this is another videocard(Intel's integrated GPU), so we can exclude the videocard from the suspects.
    My suspects:
    1) some desktop manager bugs, or other similar issue
    2)  video memory allocation - I'm still suspecting that it can be caused by the amount of RAM dedicated to the videocard, currently, I think  that it is at 256MB.
    3) some poorly designed components of Chrome/Screenshot Captor - still very questionable since there are enough resources on this system, so there should be no fight over resources. And when the system is barely used there are no issues.
    4) Adobe Shockwave Flash - maybe this one????
I have attached a set of 20 screenshots here, these were taken on the 1st configuration of my PC, using Q9450:
    http://imgur.com/a/Mc8hI#4
Notice how it distorts the image by duplicating it and showing it in a smaller space, or how does it displays those black rectangles. In those moments, the PC is fully functional(the apps are running the background), without being slowish or something, but
you can hardly control it like that. For example, I've tried to remove the mouse from the USB, and then I've insterted it back, the image was not displayed correctly, but the mouse was recognised instantly and the pointer was controlable.
Same thing still happens on the new configuration. Please advise me.
LE: OS is Windows 7 x64 SP1 Professional and it's Geniune. There is no cracked software on this PC. No games. I've tried to maintain it as clean as possible.

    Hi,
First, please be ensured that you have installed the latest drivers and all the updates.
Then check whether this issue will not in
Safe Mode. If it didn’t occurred, I suggest you narrow down the cause in
    Clean Boot mode.
In addition, try to create a new profile to see how it works.
    Hope this helps.

  • Upgraded to Snow Leopard and now I can't back up

Recently I upgraded to Snow Leopard after my hard drive crashed in my MacPro. I had the hard drive replaced and then imported the old information to the new one via Time Machine. All went well. I have been backing up on a Lacie 160 GB external hard drive for years, and like it's designed to, when it's full, the older backups got deleted to make way for new ones.
Now when I try to back up to the Lacie since the upgrade and the installation of the new internal drive, I get error messages that tell me the device is too full, and I cannot back up.
Does anyone know how I would go about solving this? My thought it that by deleting all of the old backups on my Lacie, I would then free up enough space for Tim Machine to start working like normal again. But I do not want to do this until I talk with people more experienced than I about the advisability of this action. Any advice?

Hi, and welcome to the forums.
See #C4 in Time Machine - Troubleshooting (or use the link in *User Tips* at the top of this forum).

  • Has anyone else had a problem with closing their Macbook Pro (latest model) and after you open it back up the internet shows as connected but won't pull up websites whatsoever?

Occasionally, I will close my Macbook Pro when I'm not using it, and when I reopen it my wireless network shows as being connected, but the internet will not function whatsoever.  I tried disabling the WIFI and re-enabling it but the problem persisted.  Ultimately I have to just restart then everything works fine.  I even tested my cell phone (which uses my home WIFI also) and was able to pull up websites, which isolates the problem to the computer.
Seems like after the computer goes on Standby or Sleep, it only has the trouble immediately after.  Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks so much but none of that helped.  It was driving me crazy because it would back up another external drive.  I just changed the name of the drive from iPhoto/iTunes Library to Media Libraries and IT WORKED!! I guess for some reason it didn't like the drive being called iPhoto or iTunes ???? I don't understand but I have tried so many solutions and exchanging things out but the name change did it????!!!
Thank you for your help and replying to this.  Guess I made my own issue!

  • Since the recent upgrade all my photos have gone from Aperture and i cannot open any backed up Aperture files please help.

Since the recent upgrade i have lost my Aperture libaray and cannot open the old one message reads you cannot use this version of the application Aperture original with this version of OS X you have Aperture original 3.2.4.
How do i get my photos back please.

Aperture 3.2.4 will not work on Mavericks.
You can do as I did, either do a web search for Aperture updates to your current version of Aperture to update to Aperture 3.4.5 OR just simply upgrade to latest version of Aperure 3.5 ( from the Mac App Store) that is fully 64 bit compliant for OS X Mavericks. As long as you have registered your previous version of Aperture, the new 64 bit version will be a free upgrade.
Be advised that if you just upgrade to the latest version of Aperture, it will update your Photos  Library, as well.
When this happens, your old version of Aperture on older versions of OS X will no longer work with the new, updated Photos Library.
If you still want to be able to access your Photos Library with an older version of Aperture and older OS X version, you need to make a copy of your current Photos library.
Make a copy of your current Photos Library and put it into a folder called something like old Photos Library so you still have an older version you can still access if you need to.

  • Having purchased an itouch 4 and installed itunes 10.5 for my daughter i cannot copy films into itunes. even though ialways did with my itunes and her ipod. Any thoughts please?

Having purchased an itouch 4 and installed itunes 10.5 for my daughter on her laptop i now cannot copy films into movies on itunes. Even though I always did with my itunes and her ipod on my laptop.
    Any thoughts please?

Have uninstalled then re-installed iTunes and it sees my iPhone but doesn't show the battery state.
I have rebooted my laptop and, guess what, iPhone is now NOTseen! Who designed this software, an idiot? Oh, I forgot Apple programmers don't know anything about Windows especially Windows 7. I still think this has to do with the differing formats as if there are pictures on the iPhone, Windows sees it as a camera and it is possible to see the pictures in Explorer, so these must be stored in FAT format. Maybe someone needs to design the phone to tell Windows that it's a phone and tells Windows to load the correct drivers. Maybe that's too difficult!

  • I upgraded my Itunes to the latest version and now it won't let me view my library with the column browser. Can i get that back?

i upgraded my Itunes to the latest version and now it won't let me view my library with the column browser. Can i get that back? I tried using the shortcut for it and nothing happens. When I try to do it from the view menu, it shows up as something I can't click on. The new library format is driving me crazy and I just want to get back to the old library view.

We need to sort out some facts here first:
    •  You cannot be running Mt. Lion on your iMac G5.  What Mac is it?  What is the Model Identifier listed in About This Mac; More Info; Hardware Overview
    •  What is the model of your Epson Scanner?
    •  Have you attempted to scan using Image Capture, located in your Applications folder?
    •  Your Palm Pilot software will only run in Snow Leopard; so depending upon which Mac you have, you will either have to:
    1)  partition your hard drive or add an external hard drive and install Snow Leopard into it to "dual-boot" when you want to access you Palm software, or
    2)  install Snow Leopard Server (now available from Apple for $20 telephone orders USA & Canda only) into Parallels 8 to run your Palm software in Mt. Lion:

  • I was using OS Snow Leopard and on 8/1/13 I downloaded Mountain Lion and found out it was not compatible with my HP printer (HP photosmart C5580) so I called Apple and asked how to get Mountain Lion off and Snow Leopard back on.  The Tech told me to

I was using OS Snow Leopard and on 8/1/13 I downloaded Mountain Lion.  Then I found out it was not compatible with my HP Printer (HP Photosmart C5580 all-in-one) so I called Apple support and the tech told me to erase the hard drive instead of going in the time machine.  Well I did that and then it took about three hours three days a week for about three weeks on the phone with an apple tech to get all my stuff back on my computer.  I have had trouble with my printer (won't do the scan anymore and wasn't printing on my DVDs.  Also the computer keeps freezing up when it is in the sleep mode, etc.
When I tried to list my problem on this forum it lists your OS at the bottom and mine had Mountain Lion listed as what I was using so apparently it didn't erase it.  Want to know how to get Mountain Lion off and put my Snow Leopard on so things start working right.

Go to the  menu/About This Mac - what OS version shows there?
Do a backup, preferably 2 separate ones on 2 separate drives.
Revert to a Previous OS X
    Revert to Snow Leopard
If you do revert, I'd use Setup Assistant to restore your data. This process takes a while, so do it when you won't need the computer for several hours, based on my experience.

  • How can I delete latest update and go back to old one

I have had nothing but trouble with the new update to 3.1.3 and want it OFF my phone. I want to delete it and just go back to business as usual. Does any one know how to do it? I was told that if I just do a restore, it will reinstall the latest version of OS any way. I hate the new mess I have with latest update.
    HELP!!!

    Irchr wrote:
sorry, but it just looked like this last update was not ready to release and has caused so much trouble that Apple would have a fix or allow us to revert to previous level.
You are probably not well enough informed to decide whether an upgrade is 'ready to release'. Remember there are millions of iPhones upgraded and only a very small minority with issues - many of which pre-existed 3.1.3
I haven't had phone for very long now, but it is very frustrating to have a defective OS and phone. I would have thought this would be the place to do things LEGALLY, not hack the phone like I see on GOOGLE
Hacking the phone is the only way to revert unless you have backups. Hacking the phone is not something that is discussed in these forums.
You haven't even posted your problems so perhaps start there ?

  • I GIVE UP!  Is it possible to uninstall Leopard and go back to Tiger?

I am ready to give up for now. Is it possible to uninstall and go back to Tiger?

If you were wise you would consider other options just besides getting rid of Leopard and throwing it away. First, you could wait until Apple releases OS 10.5.1, then install and update to it. This might help take care of some problems. You could dual boot OS 10.4.10 and 10.5 as long as you have the OS 10.4 full install Disk and the OS 10.5 full install disk. I personally will wait until at least Christmas time before I install Leopard. New OS's are always full of bugs. On the Microsoft side, I've read where Windows Vista is still having major problems and is taking a long time to become widely used. These problems take time to fix. When Windows XP came out nobody would upgrade to it because of all it's bugs, now Windows XP is considered the standard on PCs. Mac OS 10.4 was also full of bugs at first, but now we talk about how rock solid it is. Simply give Apple time to fix these problems.

  • In limbo between Leopard and Snow Leopard - stupidly didn't back up

I've got an old-school black MacBook, about four years old now. I never cared enough to upgrade it to Snow Leopard, but now I want Lion. So, I borrowed my parents' five-license Snow Leopard install disc and started off on the journey to upgrade to Snow Leopard, download the App Store update, then download and install Lion. I didn't get far.
First, let me say that I didn't back up my hard drive. Like an idiot. Yes, I know it was stupid, so there's no need to say anything. My previous installs (a few clean re-installs) have gone without a hitch, so I figured I'd trust Apple and just run the installation without backing up. Dumb.
The Snow Leopard installation started fine, but was interrupted when the installer said the install failed. Restart, try again. Booting from the install DVD, things seemed to be going fine a second time around -- picked my language, got to the install set-up screen, picked Macintosh HD as my installation drive. And then things stopped working. The installer said my HD could not be written to and that it needed repair. So I went to Disk Utility to try that. Repair Disk wasn't available, so I clicked Verify Disk. That got interrupted when it said the disk needed to be repaired, after which the Repair Disk button was clickable. Tried to repair, but apparently my HD is screwed beyond the capabilities of Disk Utility.
I tried to reboot the MacBook from the HD, which Disk Utility said still had Leopard running on it. The computer wouldn't boot up. Safe Boot didn't work. So, without any other real options, I thought I'd try my luck by just trying the install again. Booted up from the install DVD, and ran into the same issues. Didn't magically fix itself, of course. So my MacBook is stuck in limbo between Leopard and Snow Leopard, won't boot from the HD and won't let me repair the disk when booted from the DVD. What do I do?
I plan to try a couple third-party disk-utility programs tomorrow (8/25/11) to recover the files on my HD. There's not much I care about on there (just some iPhone photos and my resume, really), so doing a clean wipe of the HD and installing Snow Leopard is an option. But I'd of course rather be able to recover my personal files. Is this possible at this point?
Another question I have regarding a clean wipe: If I end up having to clean off the HD and lose all my data, I'll lose the iTunes configuration for my iPhone. Will iTunes be able to import my apps and settings from my phone if I plug it in?
    Thank you very much.

  • Am using Macbook pro mid 2010 running on OSX 10.9.5. It does not read my old Seagate back up plus ITB ext hard disk which opens and works on snow leopard. The back ups were made on snow leopard and mountain lion. How do I make it work on Mavericks?

I have been making back ups on a Seagate Back up plus drive on a macbook pro running on Mountain lion. Sadly the mac was stolen and all I had was the seagate back up. I tried opening it on my old iMac running on snow leopard and after several visits to this forum managed to open it. The data was safe and sound. Now I have received a hand me down macbook pro which runs on osx 10.9.5. I'm assuming there is a compatability issue as the drive does not come on at all when I hook it up to the usb port. I checked the seagate drive once again on the imac and its light came on on that system. Then I suspected there may be a problem with this macbook pro usb port. But it seemed to work fine when i hooked my camera cord into it. Is it that I must reinstall mavericks. In which case how do I back up before reformatting or reinstalling. BTW I did the command+ R thingy and repaired my internal Hard disc which was showing errors. What do I do next, your help is most appreciated if you have had a similar problem.

Your 2010 MBP would be able to handle Yosemite, but I would strongly suggest that you get the current problem sorted out before trying to upgrade to Yosemite. I'd also recommend another backup that isn't created by Time Machine if you are thinking of upgrading. SuperDuper and CarbonCopyCloner can make bootable clones of hard drives. If you clone your existing system to a fresh external drive, you would be able to boot from that drive and recover quickly in the event that your Yosemite upgrade didn't work out. Time Machine backups are not 100% reliable.
It's possible that, if your internal HD is the one that shipped with your MBP in 2010, it may be failing. If it keeps needing repairs, that is probably a sign that it is approaching the end of its useful life.
Have you run Disk Utility's Repair tool on the external drive as well?
I mentioned the hub because some people have reported here that attaching their USB 3 drives through a USB 2 hub solved some disconnection problems. A good-quality powered USB 2 hub won't cost much.
My most recent brush with random disconnections involved a nice new OWC drive enclosure. I used the cable that came with the drive, but the drive kept disconnecting. Using a different cable solved the problem. You wouldn't expect that what appeared to be a high quality cable would be a problem straight out of the box, but it was.
