Latest on Battery

Tonight is the first night I do NOT have to charge my battery after using the iPhone for the day... right now the battery is reporting it is about 1/2 way charged.
Previously:
Friday night, charged on dock for about 12 hours. Phone lasted about 12 hours the next day.
Saturday night, charged with AC adaptor for about 9 hours. Phone lasted about 12 hours the next day.
Sunday night, charged on dock for about 12 hours. Battery reported "full" next morning. Monday I kept bluetooth off except when I was in the car (about 40 minutes). Phone lasted about 12 hours.
Monday night, charged on dock for about 12 hours. Battery reported "full" next morning. Today I kept bluetooth AND WiFi off most of the day. Turned WiFi on just to demo for 10 minutes to my mom. Turned bluetooth on only to make a phone call in the car (about 20 minutes). Phone lasted all day and appears to still be about 1/2 full.
Each day, the phone has gotten light to moderate use. A few short phone calls (in most cases about 3 calls all less than 3 minutes, today was unusual). A few e-mails (really, only like 3 or 4). A few text messages (10-20). Some little web searches. Barely any music or videos (just to demo to friends). Today was the first day I actually used it as an iPod and listened to music for 40 minutes.
My conclusion is that WiFi is one of the big culprits to battery draining too fast. Bluetooth is probably a draw too, but since I've tried with it turned off (and WiFi still turned on) and still had less-than-expected results, I think WiFi is the bigger one to blame.
I STILL haven't gotten any usage statistics reported on my phone even after I know my phone has reported being fully charged. Tomorrow night when I charge the phone again (assuming it will need it) I may do a restore if others here tell me that fixed it for them.
I LOVE MY iPhone. It was amazing today being out with my mom and staying in touch by e-mail with work. When I had some outgoing e-mail issues (my provider) I was able to call AT&T after looking up their number ON THE WEB so I could get their outgoing mail server name (which they say will work when you're connected to wifi too, but I haven't tried yet). I was also able to looking up some info my mother needed off the web. It was cool listening to music while I worked out and text messaging my brother about plans for tomorrow... and ALL WITH ONE DEVICE!
If my theory turned out to be true, I'd love to see Apple incorporate a WiFi and Bluetooth On/Off toggle switch right on the home screen. It would be much more convenient to turn these features on and off at will that way.

It is said that any broadband (wi-fi, bluetooth) will eat up the battery. Hence is one of the reasons that 3G has not been incorporated yet. (it eats up battery faster than others, I have heard) Good ideas on shutting the stuff down when you don't need it. Me, I just have my car charger ready to hook it up.

  • Magic Trackpad battery usage

    Hello Apple Discussions,
I am a brand new Magic Trackapd user (since 13th of August 2010), but I already noticed something strange. My battery power dropped from 100% to 89% for less than 4 days of continuous usage. My trackpad has been delivered with Energizer Alkaline batteries. I hope that situation will be better with Energizer Lithium batteries, but most of all should like to see a firmware update that is fixing the issue as soon as possible.
I also have Apple Wireless Keyboard (latest two battery release) which consumes less power. There are almost two months since I got the keyboard and battery dropped with only 1%. Hope to see the same with the Magic Trackpad as this tiny gadget is really working one of my favorite things having the Apple logo.
Anyone of you noticed the same higher consummation of power with the Magic Trackpad or it is just me?

    Here's my battery life story.
Obviously, days between battery changes depend on use. I started with Alkaline batteries (Duracell) when I got the MT (Magic Trackpad) working. Battery life was about a month on the first set. I use the trackpad exclusively (of my three different devices- Magic Trackpad, Wacom tablet, Logitech S530 wireless mouse+keyboard) now, on my desktop MacPro.
I am now trying the Sanyo brand Eneloop batteries to compare. I didn't even notice the battery warnings until the screen flashed a battery low indicator. I also have been using two Eneloop's in my Logitech keyboard, with I think, excellent results (about three months of constant use, and the charge indicator does gradually falls off in that time until blinking a warning).
When I first inserted the rechargeable batteries their charge level said 83%. So I don't know if the life expectancy of the rechargeables will be close to that of alkaline (which said 98% when first started). Certainly it's more economical to use rechargeables. I use the mouse a lot. I see in this thread that results vary from a week or two to months.
    Questions:
Does turning off the Trackpad make a big difference compared with leaving it set unused?
Does a rechargeable give way lower life than an alkaline?
What is the comparable battery life between the types of power sources- Alkaline, Eneloop, NIMH, Lithium?
Is there an app for archiving battery life information on the MT? There is one for the laptop and there is history in Profiler, so it seems there could be a way to get the data. Has anyone done it?
Is the low battery indicator (1.0V??) a false indication?

any advice?? or all every one has the same problem???
It works fine for me (on a N8). Earlier versions did this but 1.2 seems to have fixed it.
    A couple of questions.
1 - Do you actually have version 1.2? May seem a silly question but for a time Ovi store was showing 1.2 but linking to 1.1. Check on the info tab in battery monitor.
2 - When uninstalling are you rebooting (hold power button for 8-10 seconds until you feel 3 vibrations) after uninstalling the 2 programs (Barttery monitor and Battery monitor service)? I don't know why this is necessary but maybe it clears some seting that stops the new install working properly.

  • Is my battery dying?

This morning the battery on my computer was at 32% then all of a sudden my computer went to sleep. I plugged the power in and the battery then said it was at 0%. I've had my computer since may 2007 and use it every day for work. I've never had this problem before, but my husband did a few years ago when his PowerBook was about six years old (he also used it everyday for work). He bought a new battery and that solved the problem.
At less than 3 years old it seems a bit early to be happening, but I wondered if this meant that my battery's on it's way out?
If this is the case can I run my MacBook Pro off of the mains without the battery being connected and will this, in a few months or so, mean the battery will have regained some of it's life. Or am I just going to have to face facts and buy a new battery?
Also will running my machine off of the mains (either with the battery connected or not) long term cause any problems?
    Thanks

Before you purchase a new battery make sure you have installed the latest MBP Battery Update. That alone may fix the problem. To check go to:
HD/System/Library/SystemConfiguration & look for a file called batteryupdater.bundle. Select Get Info for the file.
If its version number is 1.2 or 1.3 you should be fine If not, or if you cannot locate a batteryupdater.bundle file (by using Spotlight, searching manually or using a 3rd party search feature) then download an update from Apple's website & install it. If installing has no effect, you probably need a new battery.
Your battery may be replaced for free. Take your computer to an Apple Store. The staff will be able to check to determine if your model MBP qualifies for the free battery program.

  • 15" new battery

    Hi,
Purchased my MacBook Pro last November. It comes with the 50mw rechargeable battery, model no. A1281.
Anyhow. The new MacBook Pro's come with the 73-watt-hour lithium-polymer battery, when my current battery is exhausted and I want to buy a new one, can I fit the latest 15" battery into my MacBook Pro?

  • Imac G3 233 starts up a few seconds  then power goes down

    Hello
    I have an imac G3 233
It has been working and i have just plugged it out for 6 months. Now i plugged it in today and it boots up . startup sounds comes ok and hd spins up. Power button is light up.
After a few second the power goes down.
And i have to unplug the power for a while to be able to get it to boot up like that again.
I am clueless ... Any ideas on this?
Message was edited by: sleecin (Added : Have to unplug power for a while to have it boot up at all again) Any info helps right?

    Hi,
If anything occurs when the computer has been disconnected from the mains for some time, one thing to suspect is often the internal battery. When the voltage falls below approx. 3.0 V, at the latest, the battery should be replaced (the nominal voltage is 3.6 V). Have you noticed any changes as far as the date and time settings are concerned?
Unfortunately, problems in the analogue board area can also affect the ability of certain older iMacs to start up properly.
Please note that working inside an all-in-one Mac is dangerous, and must be carried out by someone who knows exactly what to do. High-voltage charges can remain in various components even if the machine has been switched off.

  • Erratic battery behaviour on Macbook air since latest update

My Macbook Air 11.1 is from 2011, and the battery started going bad last year. I ordered and placed a new battery in january. This worked perfectly, no problems whatsoever. This morning, I installed the latest available Apple update (unsure which one, can't find it). After that, my battery has been behaving strangely. This is what happened:
    - I unplugged my laptop at one point, and moved it from my bed to desk. I went to my kitchen, returned, and the laptop had turned off.
    - I put the charger in and turned it back on. I realised the battery info said the battery isn't charging and 'replace now'. Surprised, since I just got the battery this january.
    - All of a sudden, the icon changed to white (it's black when not charging) and it was charging again.
    - This kept happening, on and off.
    - Unplugging the charger results in shutting of immediately or within a few seconds. At this moment, it's charging (at 97%). But it can change any minute.
    - I tried moving my laptop around a bit, tilting it up and down, but that doesn't seem to do anything (neither good or bad).
I looked on the internet for a few solutions:
    - Resetting PRAM: no differene
    - Resetting SMC: no difference
    - Reinstalling Yosemite completely (do you recommend this? In any specific order?)
Does anyone know what is best to try? I can also open up my laptop again and check the battery, but I doubt that's the problem. Btw, third party apps like battery diag/battery health/coconut battery all make no mention of the battery needing to be replaced.
Any help is greatly appreciated. I'm emigrating to Serbia next week, so I hope to fix it before then
    I included an Etrecheck report:

  • After the latest iOS update (8.1.2) my battery drains in 4-5 hours, on standby (5S 16gb) - and I'm not the only one

    Hello,
Since the latest update, my iPhone 5S's battery life has decreased significantly.
In the past, I've never ran into any issues. I have my 5S for over an year now.
Prior to the 8.1.2 update, a full battery lasted for about 24h (usage time >= 4h) to 50-60 hrs (on standby, no usage).
However, after updating, I can see my battery decrease in an alert mode ( about 2-3 % every 3-4 minutes, even on standby).
I've tried all the solutions possible, including but not limited to:
    - downgrading to iOS 8.1.1 (I managed to do it, because Apple is still signing the IPSW files). - didn't work, no improvement
    - restoring and updating again to 8.1.2 , starting from scratch (I've backed up all my stuff first, restored, updated, set iphone as 'new' , didn't put my data back on) - didn't work, no improvement
I've also chatted with the tech support today and they diagnosed my device, saying:
    Quoting support operator:
"Good news, it seems that everything for the hardware side —WiFi, Cellular, and Battery is looking beautiful! That is awesome! Some of the software though does seem to be affecting some things I do see. So, we have found out what the cause is. Next step is getting it taken care of so it doesn’t continue. I want to make sure you don’t have to keep worrying about your battery life."
The only fix they offered was restoring and updating to the latest version, 8.1.2 , again. I've told them I've already tried it, but I thought to give it another try. Unsuccessful again, battery still draining quickly.
I've discussed with another operator about 7 hours later, describing my problem and also told them other users experience this issue too:
Iphone iOS 8.1.2 battery drain remains
No iOS 8 Battery Drain Problems Until iOS 8.1.2
These are only two topics I've found on apple support forums, but many others are experiencing this too.
The technical support employee told me that Apple didn't yet discover this bug and if they do (on a large scale) they will issue an update, or a fix.
That's why I ask you all who have this issue to come and post here, to let Apple know we want our devices to work normally again.
I can't use my iphone if, it drains 100% of battery in 5-6 hours without abnormal usage time!! I also don't think it's healthy for the battery to recharge it 2-3 times a day.
Something needs to be done. I regret every day my decision to update to this version of iOS . I will never update again prior to reading other users' experince on the update.
    Please, Apple, do something!
Oh, and by the way, I would go to a service to have this looked into by a specialist, but in my country (and I'm sure there are other countries too) there aren't any Apple services , only shops. And I can't risk taking my phone to a local GSM repair shop, I don't trust them.
    Hoping for the best,
    Eduard-Cristian D. - Romania

I Have the same issue on a brand new iPad mini 2. My battery is only lasting up to 5 hours. I went on chat with Apple last night and they said my battery is fine and its a Safari issue. I'm literally losing 1% every 3-4 minutes. I tried recalibrating my battery, signing out of iCloud, shutting off all locations, turning off background app refresh, restoring network settings, restoring all, and finally restoring from iTunes with no luck. This is just awful. I got this iPad so I could use it on my long flight for a trip I have coming up, and unfortunately, it's not going to last that long, plus I'm concerned about how many times i will be recharging my battery because of this since battery's do have a life cycle dependent on the number of charges. This is frustrating and needs to be fixed ASAP and addressed by Apple.
By the way, Apple told me to bring my device to the Apple Store because it's still under warranty. That's great and all, but I'm going to waste my time if there is no fix for this issue.
Ok so you want Apple to address the problem, but yet you don't want to take it to them just in case they can't fix it? What if they can fix it? Complaining here certainly won't fix it.

After uploading our phones with the latest update, we have noticed that the battery life has deminished considerably.  I now have to charge my phone overnight and two or three times a day. Prior to the update, my battery life lasted me at least a full day.  We have several phones in our office and the ones that have updated (4) now have issue holding a charge/battery life. I really liked this phone and can not believe that you are now going to charge us $79 a battery to fix what is most definately a problem with your latest update.  I know other people outside of our company that are having the same problem. Not to mention when I called AT&T it was confirmed to me that they are hearing the same issue and then some from other customers as well.  Your own people, once I talked to them earlier today, told me they are showing a history of issues that are showing up after the update was put in place. Of course she tried to say, "Maybe the age of the battery and the update both contributed".  Whatever.
I want you all to know how disappointed I am in your company for the handling of this issue.  I always thought "Apple" was the line I didn't have to worry about having any types of issue. And that you all would stand behined your product 100%. Now I am not so sure.
I would love to hear back from your company on how you perceive the issue with all of these phones that prior to the update didn't have any issues and how after the update THEY ARE NOW having issues.  I do not believe this was an issue due to the age of a battery and that was pretty lame to say so.  It was fine and now its not.
Please feel free to contact me and help me figure out a way to pay for all of the batteries that will be needed for our company to contiue doing business as needed.
    Thank you.

  • Why is my battery draining down so quickly, since the latest update?

Why has my battery life gone from a once a day charge to nearly needing to keep it plugged up all the time. Since I installed the latest update, my phone will go from 100% charge to 30-40% within 3-1/2 hours and that's just sitting in standby on my desk at work. I have made sure all my background stuff is turned off, including the background refresh thingy. It's a little aggregating and if someone has an answer me and my family would love to hear it. Thanks.

Well razmee209, I have done everything on the list that you sent me and turned off everything I could, that's working in the background, and still be able to function with my phone and the battery is still draining off dramatically. I even did the recalibration to no avail.
I honestly didn't have any battery issues until installed the latest update and ever since it has been bad. It would be different if it were just me but based on what I have read it's happening to everyone. It really ***** cause my battery was unplugged at 5:50am and at 10:40am it's at 40% life left. You all really have created a power but in the last update.

  • Awful battery life after latest OTA update

I've owned my Bionic for about 16 months now, and up until recently, have been very pleased.  After the initial Jelly Bean update, I was enjoying the best battery life I had ever experienced, up to 20+ hours with moderate use throughout the day.  However, the latest over the air update (I remember hearing my phone restart itself after the update in the middle of the night), my battery life has suffered dramatically.  At first, I thought the battery was bad, so I ordered a new one, but the problem persisted.  I searched online and discovered others were experiencing similar issues after updates.  I have tried various solutions, included wiping the cache, deleting apps one at a time to determine a culprit, and eventually even a FDR, but none have helped.
I am almost positive the issue is stemming from "wakelocks" and other things waking my phone up again and again, even with the display off.  My battery will drain from 100% to 40% as I sleep at night, even with WIFI and data disabled.  The battery stats show Android OS and/or Display (they alternate) as the leaders for my battery usage, usually around 40-50%, which is much higher than it used to be.
I have become increasingly frustrated with this issue, as there seems to be no known solution other than getting a new phone.  I find it almost inexplicable that an update could go out that causes such problems.  My phone has basically been rendered to a tethered device, as I can't go more than 8-10 hours without recharging.  If there are any known solutions, or if I can possibly receive a new Bionic, please let me know.
    Thanks.

After the Google logo appears and I try to go to step 5, I get the green
little robot on his back, 'tummy' open with a red triangle and exclamation
mark in it....and it stays there for a long time???
    Then the phone reboots....problems stay.
I do not know who you are Kevin but I was at the Verizon store on Friday
and I was told to call customer service as they are not responsible for the
    software...it's Samsung's problem!?
I am a +$300 a month client and this is the service I get!
I will close my account, pay whatever it takes and go someplace else if
this doesn't get fixed fast...this did not happen on my request and I'm
    stuck with it.
    Respectfully,

  • Battery Life / Recharging issues after latest Update

I bought the Xperia Z2 beginning of April and it was fine. The battery lasted for about 2 days with Active Hotspot continuously running for approx. 18 hours. After updating to the latest software version, the phone runs pretty hot and with Active Hotspot on, while hardly using other programs, the battery is empty after 8 hours, despite having the phone always on the charger. Several times an error message pops up, telling that the phone consumes more power, then the (original) charger is providing! Is that update rather a downgrade? Or is it the intention to get the Hotspot literally hot?

Hi there!! I've been using my Xperia z for the past one year. Till last week I didn't had any problem but now I'm not sure what happened to my mobile.. I have listed all the issues below. I really need your help and support to solve this issue and please get me a permanent fix..
    1. Battery is draining too fast(very fast)
    2. Mobile is always hot even if I don't use. When start using apps like game, browsing or watch any video, I feel that I'm holding an induction stove in my hand.
    3. "Throw" option is not working
    4. When I make a call I don't hear anything through earpiece rather I'm using loudspeaker speaker.
Plzzz help me and get me a solution.. I'm afraid to take my mobile to service center.. Please advise what needs to be done..

  • What is it about the latest update that causes my battery life to be so short?

Since the latest update my battery life has gone from great to horrendous. I used to be able to get through an 8-hour day at work with no issues now I'll get low battery issues after just a few hours. I presume if I do a factory reset I'll loose all my apps and the phone will insist I redo the update. What am I supposed to do?

You should back up any music or videos, documents or files to a PC and then factory reset the phone.  You can either let the reset re-install the apps and app data, or do a clean install to avoid other issues and uncheck those boxes in Back up and Reset menu in Main Settings of the phone.  You can always batch install from the Play Store once you reset or you can go to the Play Store webpage, sign in and restore apps from there as well.  Make sure you are fully charged to 100%.
