Latest Quicktime and Snapz Pro X

Hello. I use Snapz Pro X, the latest version, to create short rough videos to work from. It has worked fine for over a year. However, with the recent update to Quicktime, now when I attempt to open files created in Snapz Pro X Quicktime crashes immediately. I have made several movies with Snapz Pro X and all crash the latest Quicktime for Macs. I then attempted to make a movie file in another application and it opened with no trouble. Also, all older movies made with Snapz Pro X open just fine. And all other types of files made by Snapz Pro X (stills, etc. that don't rely on Quicktime work fine. Interestingly, I tried to send one of the movie files that crashes QT to a friend to see if they could open it. Haven't heard back yet, but the file in the email shows up as a movie time line. When I clicked on the play button the sound was audible but the picture was not.
I have checked to see that I have all the latest updates and I do but the new movie files keep crashing Quicktime. Has anyone else had this problem and does anyone have a solution?
Thank you,
Dave

Please let me know what the answer is. I'm experiencing the same problem since 7.1.6 and can't find out how to fix it.
Thanks.

  • Quicktime 7.6 and Snapz Pro X

I'm running an older version of Snapz Pro X on my older iMac (flat-screen, domed) under Tiger 10.4.11. I have and paid for the newer Snapz Pro X on my white Macbook purchased this Summer, running Leopard (hence my profile info here), but don't much like how the newer Snapz Pro X works (too many highly annoying distracting squiggly graphs and such).
Since updating to Quicktime 7.6, I can no longer take screenshots of a paused Quicktime movie with Snapz Pro X. The Snapz Pro X intro screen pops up (although it is in my start-up items and already loaded), and then nothing happens. It works fine taking screenshots of anything else UNTIL I try taking a screenshot of a Quicktime movie, then Snapz Pro X is inoperable for everything until I restart.
I've repaired permissions, repaired disk, ran Cache Out X, OnyX, DiskWarrior, etc. etc. etc., even tried removing Snapz Pro X from my start-up items. Same behavior as above.
    Any ideas?
I know--someone will say to post this on the Snapz Pro X forum, but the likely answer there will be to use the newer version, and I just plain don't care for the newer version. And who knows, it may have the same problems with the Quicktime 7.6 update (which I haven't yet updated on my white Intel Leopard Macbook).
So I guess my real question is, if no one has a possible fix--I have my drive cloned to a bootable external drive, which still has Quicktime 10.5.5. How can I get it back to my main computer? Just drag it? What do I drag? Should I delete any Quicktime-related file(s) on my main computer before dragging it over?
    Thanks in advance.

You may want to try out Screenshot Plus widget by Steven Chaitoff for a temporary workaround.
We longer use Snapz Pro X.

  • QuickTime and Premiere Pro CS5

When I go to export my project I don't see QuickTime as a format option.
Let me describe my situation.  I downloaded a particular version of QuickTime (without QuickTime player) to use with MPEC Streamclip in order to copy a video from a DVD to my computer.  After the file was created the video played in Windows Media Player with audio but no video.  QuickTime had created a restore point so I used it to uninstall QuickTime and start over including QuickTime Player.
When I went to reinstall it I got the message "it already exists".  However I don't see QuickTime anywhere and as I said, it is absent from Premiere Pro format options.
Now my questions:  How do I fix this?
If I uninstall and reinstall Premiere Pro will it install QuickTime automatically or should I install QuickTime manually?  If the latter is true which version of QuickTime should I install?
Please help.  I am at a standstill and cannot continue with my project.

    All is well now.
I checked about the QuickTime folder in Program Files (x86) and found that sometimes even though a program has been uninstalled and is not listed in the Control Panel, there could be leftover folders in the C: drive.  In that case one should go ahead and deleted.  I did that and then installed QuickTime 7.  Premiere Pro recognized it and is now listed under the Export > Format options.
    Thank for your support.

  • ITunes Visualizer and Snapz Pro

This has got to be easy.... I just down loaded the free trial of Snapz Pro X because I wanted to capture a segment of the visualizer in iTunes for a title sequence background. I tried to take a vid of the screen AND it looked like I took a vid of the screen! I cannot seem to figure out how to have the visualizer on and Snapz at the same time. There is no help menu with this version of Snapz
    Thanks in advance
    Rob

I got it to work on my system. Here's what I did:
    Start up Snapz Pro.
Choose "Movie" and select the area to capture and frame rate (30 fps.)
    Go to iTunes.
    Start play music.
    Start the Visualizer.
When I'm done, click the mouse, Visualizer stops.
Now - start Snapz Pro again (actually it's been running in the background all along) and it brings up a dialog box of specs for saving the movie (compression for video track, whether to include audio track, etc.)
You'll see that the movie is not the right size for video, you'll have to bring it into Final Cut, put it on a time line, and size or crop to taste. Also, of course, the movie begins before the Visualizer starts, so there's stuff you probably won't want.
The Visualizer does fill the screen, so we're talking a very processor-intensive task. I'm sure how many FPS you can capture will depend on your system.

  • Avi plays in Windows Live Movie Maker but probs in Quicktime and Premiere Pro

    Hello,
I'm completely new to Premiere Pro and am trying to edit a recording of a webinar for work.  I have it in both .avi and .wmv formats but can't import either into Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 or CS5.5.  They both play in Windows Media Centre, Windows Live Movie Maker and Windows Media Player, but the audio is corrupted and no images appear when I play in Quicktime with the avi and when I try to play the wmv in Quicktime it says the file is not in a format that Quicktime understands.  When I try to import either into Premiere Pro I get the error message "Unsupport format or Damaged File".  I've used Gspot to determine that the codecs I need are installed and am at a loss in terms of what to do next.  I've spent literally hours on this and would dearly love some help.  Can anybody shed light on my problem?  With many thanks in advance.  Shan

Can anyone find a way to fix this? If not, then I'll have to send my MacBook Pro to the nearest Apple Store.

Which os do you have installed?

  • Latest Quicktime download issue

I just downloaded the latest Quicktime and iTunes upgrades, and now when I go to websites, e.g., Weather.com, I'm getting a Quicktime icon with a question mark through it -- where flash animations used to play. I've tried downloading a new Quicktime plugin and resetting my FlipforMac, but it didn't help. Anyone know what this is and how I can resolve it? Thanks!

My instructions were for Safari not FireFox.
I also use FireFox & have no problems w/this latest update.
Which version of FireFox are you using?
Did you repair permissions prior to & after installing the update?
Make sure you have the latest versions of Adobe Flash Player Software.
Have you checked your QT MIME Settings?

  • Snapz Pro X and Final Cut Pro

I'm screen capturing QuickTime movies of usage of a website via a web browser to include in a video production. I'm using Ambrosia's Snapz Pro X to do the video capture. I've sized the browser to 720x480 for the capture. I'm exporting the capture using the animation codec (which looks much better than a DV stream), but it comes in at 8 frames per second, which doesn't mesh with my timeline (at 29.97 fps).
Is Snapz Pro X a good solution to do this, or is there a better program to do this? If Snapz Pro X is a good choice for this, what settings should I change in the program to get the best video for use in Final Cut?

AFAIK Snapz records the screen activity into RAM as OS-level screen calls and then renders the file to your drive with whatever CODEC you choose when you save the clip. So the choice of CODEC won't affect the frame rate, but the size of the capture frame will.
The Animation CODEC is the best choice as it retains the full fidelity of the screen grab (no loss of quality). The main thing to remember when configuring the Animation CODEC is to set the keyframe rate to 1 (every frame is a keyframe). Final Cut does a bad job of handling key frames in the Animation CODEC when making cuts edits between keys - you'll get weird artifacts.
This makes for big files and Final Cut will want to conform the clips to 29.97 (or whatever timebase your using) so it will need to render the clips before you can edit them. Make sure your timeline is set to the same frame size, CODEC and KEY FRAME rate as the clips coming in.
Once you've done your cuts and are happy with your edit, output directly to whatever delivery CODEC your going to use: MPEG2 if DVD, Flash, H-264 etc for web. Avoid rendering to DV as the DV CODEC slaughters text and hard edged objects.
    My two cents worth.

  • Latest quicktime version 7.1 with Pro/MPEG-2 Playback.

I just realized that the latest Quicktime version is 7.1 and noticed that the version I have is 7.0.4. My concern is that I also have Quicktime Pro 7.0 and the MPEG-2 Playback and wanted to know if I download the new version 7.1 of Quicktime how that would affect the Quicktime Pro and MPEG-2 Playback?

Version 7.1 addressing some security concerns and should be installed.
The Apple MPEG-2 Playback Component is a lifetime purchase and if newer versions are released you don't have to buy again.
Your QuickTime 7 Pro will not be changed because of the update. Your registration will remain valid until you install version 8 (whenever it comes out).

  • CS5 and ScreenCap Movies (Snapz Pro)

Im captuing full frame rate (30fps) screencap with Snapz Pro and have the option to then render each capture to "anything Quicktime can render to".
I know I need to choose something that will play and cut well in PPro but I also want to maintian the larger and non standard sizes of the movies (so i can do pan and scan)
anyone have tips of what is a good workflow here?
Like what settings to render to
And how to get it into PPro and working right in the timeline?
(if I am bringing in into a 1080p 30 fps video project or a 720p 30 fps project for example)?

  • If I upgrade to latest version QuickTime will the Pro license still work?

I am running QuickTime 7.0.3 and just bought QuickTime Pro a few days ago to combine some short videos. I should have upgraded to the latest version of QuickTime before getting Pro but I didn't think about it at the time. If I upgrade to QuickTime 7.5 now, will the license I purchased for QuickTime Pro 7.0.3 work with QuickTime 7.5, or will my 7.0.3 Pro license be dumped and I will have to buy another $30 Pro license for 7.5?

Normally it will be right in the middle of the page, a big blue button that says "Free Download Now". If you don't see that, your web browser isn't showing the entire page. You might try a different browser. You can also download it from here:
    http://support.apple.com/downloads/QuickTime7_5_5_forWindows
though that site is down for maintenance right now.

  • Final Cut, Quicktime, and Pro Tools conflicts

    Hi there,
I'm working on a "situation" I recently encountered, and wonder if anybody else has had this problem.
I'm trying to upgrade Pro Tools LE to version 6.9.2 with the install discs that were sent to me from Digidesign, and it's wreaking havoc with Final Cut Pro and Quicktime.
Initially when I installed the upgrade, I was running OSX 10.4.2, FCP 5.0.3 and QT 7.0.2. The Pro Tools upgrade worked fine, as did FCP when I launched it, but Quicktime wouldn't launch- spinning beachball forevermore.
So after doing all the basics- trashing pref's and render files, repairing permissions, etc.- and finding QT still wouldn't work, I tried upgrading to QT 7.0.3.
Once I did that, QT still wouldn't work, and Final Cut Pro would no longer launch. It just hung on the application startup screen, at no particular point each time.
I then upgraded to FCP 5.0.4, and as well OS 10.4.3. No luck. I installed the Pro Application Support updates 2005-02 1.0, and 3.1, and still no luck.
Since there is not yet a downgrade from QT 7.0.3 to 7.0.2, I ran the 7.0.2 to 7.0.1 installer, and downgraded to QT 7.0.1. QT still wouldn't launch, and FCP still hung on launch but this time it hung at the point where it was loading audio filters.
I tried removing the audio filters from their folders to see if it would launch then, but that didn't work. At this point, the only thing I could think to do was to uninstall Pro Tools altogether (safe uninstall, not clean uninstall) and this is what finally brought Quicktime and Final Cut back to life. Great, because I use FCP and QT everday, but I no longer have the use of Pro Tools.
Throughout this process I made sure to diligenty repair permissions, trash prefs, and restart whenever I made a change.
So I'm not sure at this point how to get Pro Tools LE 6.9.2, Final Cut Pro 5.0.4, and Quicktime (any version above 7.0) to work harmoniously, and I'm unable to spare any more troubleshooting time for a week or so because there are of course, projects due.
Has anybody else encountered these oddities?
    Thanks a lot,
    Joni

    Hi, Joni C
    I'm Bump,
I'm having the same trouble, I have FCP I'm running it on a G5 power Mac dual 2.5 ghz with 2.5 gb of memory, my os is 10.4.4. I also have Quicktime pro 7.0.3 and I have Pro Tools LE 7.0, every time I try to use FCP it starts and about five sec. later it shuts back down. I also have a Universal Audio UAD pci card that runs audio plugins and I also have fxpansion program it converts my vst & Au plugins to rtas for pro tools le. IBefore I installed FCP I wiped my hard drive and re installed a fresh version of tiger 10.4 and then I installed FCP studio, then Pro Tools, then all plugin and kept checking to make sure every thing was working correctly and then the U audio stuff with the Vst to rtas wrapper and it all was working fine. I even did the full final cut tutorial still worked fine. Yesterday out of no where final cut just stop working and still all the other programs work fine like dvd studios, soundtrack, motion, pro tools. If you can shead any light on this I would be very greatful
    Bump
