Latest Quicktime Plugin crashing Firefox and IE

The latest Quicktime plugin, 7.2, is crashing both Firefox and IE.

If Athlon 64 is a 64 bit system, I've read here at the discussion's that it is not supported by QT. But other's may be able to confirm that. The only time I've expierenced QT crash is when I've not had the correct driver for Nvidia, or hard lock up when I had hardware not configured properly. If the computer does not meet the system spec's for high definition H.264 the computer will also crash. The latest version of Firefox 2.0.0.7 and QT 7.2 work fine together.

  • Ever since I installed Firefox 4, my QuickTime plugin crashes when I view a certain web site.

This never happened with the previous versions of Firefox. The latest version of the QuickTime plugin is installed.
Since posting this, I've updated to Firefox 5. The same problem continues with the newest version.

I was able to stop the crashing by give the embed tag a non-zero height.
Originally I had a zero height and width on the embed sound tag on my pages. That worked fine until FF4, after which the Quicktime plugin crashed. Just updated my pages to have zero width and one height. The embed still does not show, but it no longer crashes the Quicktime plugin.
Perhaps some smart FF developer would know why this work around fixes the crash.

  • Quicktime Plugin crashes and Window size not correct when running a course from an LMS (Coursemill)

I am trying to run a course from an LMS (Coursemill) and a couple issues are occurring.
First, the quicktime plugin crashes, therefore the mp3 sound of the course does not play. When I reload the page, I get an "Unable to find API adapter" error message and the page won't load.
Also, the predetermined window size does not work properly and I end up with vertical and horizontal scroll bars which I do not want.
These issues are of high importance and need a solution ASAP. Please contact me.

  • Quicktime Plugin crashes on Firefox 11&12. No problem with IE 8

I keep getting notifications that my quicktime plugin has crashed. I have the latest Quicktime Edition 7.7.1 and Firefox 12 installed. This does not happen with IE 8. OS is Windows XP Pro SP3.
This is the website on which Firefox plugin crashes for me consistently. http://www.janalea.com/. It's my realtors website.

Quicktime plugin is to be honest a piece of crap, slows down Firefox and causes problems like this. As Quicktime is maintained by Apple, you should complain to them.
Personally, I recommend you disable it completely and install [http://www.videolan.org/vlc/ VLC media player], it has a plugin component that you can use instead.

    the same happens with IE.

I was having the same problem. I just uninstalled and then re-downloaded quicktime today and re-installed it. It seems to be working fine now.
However, I'm still having problems watching .mov files with the actual player (not in the browser) on Windows Vista and have resorted to using VLC which seems to work just fine as a substitute.

  • Quicktime plugin crashes

Build a website with background music.
    code = ''<embed src="Lover.mp3" width="0" height="0" TYPE="audio/midi"></embed>
Works fine in IE9, but not in FF4.
I keep getting "the quicktime plugin has crashed".

  • Quicktime plugin crashes in all browsers in XP

I'm unable to play any Quicktime videos in the browser (using trailers.apple.com as a test). In both Chrome and IE, it doesn't even get to start playing the video, the browser just says that the plugin crashed.
I also notice that if I go to Control Panel -> Quicktime, clicking on the Streaming tab results in a runtime error and the preferences window closes.
I AM able to play .mov files if I open them from the filesystem in Explorer.
I have XP SP3 with the latest patches. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling Quicktime. I have tried disabling DirectDraw and Direct3D, but nothing seems to help. Does anyone know what this is, or know how to diagnose it further?

i run win 7.0...  i window security essentials complete scan. took 4 hours but found this malware installed by 3rd party.  havent gotten shockwave error since reboot.  will keep posted.  this didnt show up in any other virus scan...

  • My QuickTime Plugin crashes whenever there in embedded music .mp3s on a webpage. Why?

While other people I have asked do not have this problem, my QuickTime Plugin seems to crash whenever there is embedded music on a webpage. I have updated Firefox and QuickTime, tried several solutions, but it still crashes. Any ideas? :(
I am using Windows 7, Firefox 4, and QuickTime 7.

What? I am afraid that does not mean anything to me

  • QT Export to H.264 Files Crashing FireFox and my Mac Pro

I'm trying to create videos viewable on Apple mobile devices. Using QT Player 10 (114), I did an export and got the m4v file and support other files and the movie works fine on the mobile devices plus Safari. But FireFox crashes HARD, and I can't Force Quit as my Mac Pro is even crashed. I tried again. Crashed again.
Then I tried using QT Player 7 Pro which on export creates a bit more code and parameters, and again Apple devices and Safari work fine, but FF and my Mac crash hard.
I have to hard quit my computer in after trying to open the exported files from QT. Has anyone had this same experience or any advice how to fix this?
Yes, I exported for both iPhone and Computer.
QuickTimeKirk are you around? Have any input? Help!
    Thanks,
    Steven

I use the same intial settings as I see in the Apple ads Hollywood movies. But get much higher file sizes. What is the trick to getting the same quality and small file size I see in the QT and Apple ads?
Many factors are involved here. Try reading the following document which covers many of the elementary basics.
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/tutorials/h264.html
Once you master these techniques, you can then move on to more advanced strategies which optimize encoding based on changes in the actual scene content (e.g., complexity of motion vectors, lighting, application of editing effects/filters, etc.) and manually keyed into the project by the user. Afraid others would have to help you here as this is beyond my current level of expertise.

  • Quicktime plugin in FireFox 3.6 not viewing TIFFs?

I just upgraded to FF 3.6, and now all of the sudden neither my own TIFF viewing plugin (AccelViewTIFF) nor Quicktime will view TIFF files.
    has anyone experienced this?

I am having the similar problem, and have duplicated it on TWO computers, both pentiums w/ Windows OS, but otherwise very different as one is my home machine which I manage, and the second is a company-provided laptop managed by the IT department.
General Config: Firefox 3.5.8, QuickTime PlugIn 7.6.5
General Prob Description: On certain websites, embedded tiff images are not displayed. Briefly shown is the blue Q, but then blank.
Details: This began when trying to view images at the US Patent Office website (e.g. http://patft.uspto.gov/netacgi/nph-Parser?Sect1=PTO1&Sect2=HITOFF&d=PALL&p=1&u=% 2Fnetahtml%2FPTO%2Fsrchnum.htm&r=1&f=G&l=50&s1=6040531.PN.&OS=PN/6040531&RS=PN/6 040531 then click on images). I went through the process of installing QuickTime, and set it to be the preferred plugin for tiff images within FF (under MIME of the 'browser' tab). I was able to display the image on the mozilla tiff test page ( http://plugindoc.mozdev.org/testpages/tiff.html ), but still had the same problem at the patent office.
Upon researching on the Web, I found several interesting pieces of information (but no solution). These were
    1. Others having same/similar problem that posted to the Mozilla support sight:
    a) Response suggested using alternatiff ( http://support.mozilla.com/tiki-viewforum_thread.php?locale=si&commentsparentId=504396&forumId=1 )
    b) No response with a solution ( https://support.mozilla.com/tiki-viewforum_thread.php?comments_offset=0&comments_threadId=0&comments_parentId=19528&c omments_threshold=0&thread_sort_mode=commentDate_asc&forumId=1&timecontrol=172800 )
    2. Again from the mozilla support page, another had the same problem, coincidentally at the USPTO web site that I first saw the problem ( https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/forum/1/521626?s=tiff%20browser ). The solution was to use another plug-in (AlternaTIFF - www.alternatiff.com ). I did not try this, thinking that someone at Apple will catch thread (and note the number of occurrences of the issues) and offer some response, hopefully a solution.
    3. On the web, I again ran across the same problem and again relating to accessing images at the USPTO ( http://inventblog.com/business-and-tech-tips/quicktime-tif-and-uspto-images.html ). I don't think this guy likes Apple, and basically the proposed solution was again to disable QT and use something else. However, it lead to another site with additional insight.
    4. The link to the site references in #3 didn't work, but I was able to find it via search ( http://www.sos.idaho.gov/tiffhelp.htm ). The point made there that was informative: "If you have QuickTime installed, you will have to disable the QuickTime plugin for TIFF's. While QuickTime does support the TIFF file format it does not support compression formats used in TIFFs. Furthermore, QuickTime will only display the first page of a multipage TIFF document." However the link to Apple's support page where there may have been some help did not work. Note again, this site suggest uninstalling QuickTime.
    5. The Idaho site had a link to some web site at Microsoft that looked promising, but alas couldn't find it. However, I found another "test sight" that will duplicate the problem of brief blue Q, then a blank image ( http://www.secondchair.com/Help/HelpTIFF.html ).
Finally, I forgot to mention what the USPTO site had to say about tiff files ( http://www.uspto.gov/faq/plugins/tiff.jsp ). Now this sounds like old info based on the version, but QuickTime is not suggested for windows.
And one last piece of info . . . I can save the image to disk, and open with QuickTime (not in FF as a plug-in, but as the stand-alone app). I can also do a "save as" in FF for a page with a non-displaying tiff, and when I open the save file the image displays properly.
OK, Apple . . . time to step up. Please don't give me a "try this" or "did you do that?" or "reinstall ....." as I've done more than enough than I should have to . . . and instead will simply get alternatiff, or something else. While this may not be a QT issue, it does seem to be related to how QT works in FF (and perhaps other browsers and applications).

  • Latest Flash plugin causes firefox to crash when printing

Firefox will crash anytime I attempt to print a webpage. It doesn't happen in safemode. Disabling the Adobe Flash Plugin removes the problem. The Flash Plugin is the current version from adobe.

    Tylerdowner,
Uninstalled and reinstalled Flash. No change. The only thing that seems to consistently resolve the problem is disabling the Flash plugin.
I tried creating a new profile, but when I transfer the data suggested in this:
    http://kb.mozillazine.org/Transferring_data_to_a_new_profile_-_Firefox
I get an error window when opening firefox with the new profile ...something about security settings not working correctly...but I can print every time even though the Flash plugin appears to be installed and enabled. So I assume there is some kind of problem with my current profile. Any suggestions on how to find and correct it or a way to get most of my data into a new profile...that works...would be appreciated.

  • Latest FLASH plugin crashes both Mac and PC with NO customizations or hardware acceleration

Never had a problem before until I updated my flash plugin a few weeks ago.
FLASH will shut off a vulnerable plugin, so the only way you can access content is to update.
There are NO customizations and NO hardward acceleration on either Mac 10.6.8 or PC Windows 8.1
    BOTH computers are crashing.
I've sent about 10 reports alone today!
I've cleared my cache, reset my permission, and all is well.
